Perspective correction app recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a perspective correction app? Preferably one that works well with iPhoto?
There is DxO Perspective and CorrectPerspective on the App Store, both with very little or no reviews.
Thanks,
Rob.

That is one i'd love to have!

  • Perspective correction

    Hi,
I know that LR does not have perspective correction and that it has been requested as a feature, but in the meantime I would like to know what people recommend for such correction.
I have Photoshop Elements v4.0 for Mac which I can use to host a plugin, but if people think a standalone program is better then I could use that.
    Looking forward to your suggestions.
    Andrew.
Mac mini 2GB RAM, Mac OSX 10.4.10, PSE v4.0 and LR1.1

    Check out
DxO. If you know what you are doing, you can try the free
Hugin or the (not so free) lens correction tool in photoshop.

  • PSE 8 and ACR 6.1 perspective correction?

After reading about the perspective correction that is supposed to be available in ACR 6.1, I downloaded it and installed it into PSE 8 (Windows 7 64bit).  Installation seemed to work.  It does say 6.1 when I open Camera Raw.  However, I don't see any of the cool new features like lens correction, or
perspective correction.  Do they not work with Elements 8?

PSE has limited access to many of the ACR adjustments.  The ACR you have with PSE8 will actually perform the adjustments if they are in the sidecar or embedded in the image, but only Photoshop or Lightroom have the user-interface to specify those adjustments and place them in the sidecar or embed them in the image metadata.

  • Perspective correction and Lens distortion removal tools

    Hi,
as a photographer who aspires to create pictures with best possible quality available to me I am very bothered that my primary image editing tool is lacking Perspective correction and Lens distortion removal tools. I believe that there should be no questions if such tools are necessity or so to speak additional enhancements. It is eating the disk space as well having multiple copies clutters the projects if these functions are available only via plug-ins or additional external tools.
How are you guys handling such issues?
For a moment I was thinking to convert all the files through Nikon Capture NX2 before importing to Aperture but that again is counter effective in long run. Aperture is built to work with Raw files and large tif files take longer to process between various programs and I would loose all the benefits of having Raw file at all.

It would be nice to have those functions added to the next version.
I always use the following page to select the product I want to provide feedback on:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Note - due to the number of lenses and cameras, this would be a huge task and the end result may not include a lot of older lenses which really need the correction.
I use PT Lens as a plug-in inside of Aperture for the most part (although I do have PS CS5 and DxO Pro 6 for situations where I want something different).
As you said, the downside is that you end up with a TIFF (from inside Aperture) or a processed file needing to be import into Aperture.

I want to ask about changing perspective and perspective correction in photoshop. Obviously, we can tilt and straighten buildings and other monuments, which are leaning in any direction. Now, what I want to know is whether we can change perspective for human faces. For example, if there is a human face, where one part of the face is facing the camera and the other part of the face is only partially facing the camera, can we make this face look totally at the camera? I mean, look straight in front, and I am talking about the whole face here. I am attaching an image as an example of what I am talking about. @

If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.
If there are specific tasks you need help with:

  • Perspective correction and scaling in y direction only

Nach einer starken vertikalen Perspektivkorrektur werden Gebaeude "zu hoch".
Wie skaliere ich das Bild nur in y-Richtung ?
After applying vertical perspective correction for tall buildings, the buildings get "too tall".
How do I down-scale the vertical extent of the "corrected" image ? (no global scaling) ?

That is not possible in Lr, only in Photoshop CSxx.
Also, in Photoshop CSxx you can extend the canvas at the top, so that he top of the building does not go beyond the image top margin.

  • I need effective perspective correction.

I I take architectural in Sony's .SR2 Raw format. One of my photos does not seem to be correctable in LR 3 - there are no horizontals.
I think it needs a 'Force parallel' plugin such in DxO Optics and the Altostorm one I use in CS2. Any suggestions?

So how good are LR's perspective controls at correcting both vertical and horizontal perspective? The below image is the original 17mm image corrected using LRs controls, Vertical +20, Horizontal +27, Rotate +.3, and Scale 87. The second image was shot at a much further distance using 40mm focal length with no LR perspective correction. Interestingly I obtained the best results (i.e. closest match to the 40mm image) using NO lens distortion correction. With Lens Distortion correction applied in the 17mm image, elongation is increased and the roof to the right slanted downward when all other lines were parallel. From past experience  I have found most images shot at extreme wide angle look more natural without applying lens distortion correction (i.e. barrel distortion), for this very reason.  I rarely use it and leave the default at 0% for all my lenses. I only apply it on images with visible distortion, which are very few.
    17mm with LR corrections
    40mm with NO LR corrections
The LR corrected 17mm image is virtually identical to the flat perspective 40mm image. Their is of course visible elongation in the light at the upper left and other areas of the 17mm image, but you're not going to be able to change that with PC2 or C1 either! If you would like to try the below picture is a fully uncorrected image exported outof LR with the same size and settings as the above pictures:

  • Apps recommendations for a laptop running on a SD card

    Hi everyone,
Months ago, the hard drive of my netbook crashed.  Because 1.8" hard drives are rare and that SSD of the same size cost a lot, I decided to make it running on a SD card (class 10 for the speed at least ^^ ).
I followd the wiki page about it and installed openbox and SLim on it.
For now, I'm running wicd on it.
Now I'm wondering which softwares I could put it on it.
Because there are a huge number of these apps, I ask for recommendation while I'm searching and testing some of them.
I need them to be [bold]lightweight[/bold] (because it is running on a 16 Go Class 10 SD card).
    So, what I need :
    -A file manager;
    -A VNC and RDP client;
    -An e-mail/calendar client;
    -A good code editor like notepad++ (I know that it is on Windows, but I use it even on Linux, but I want to avoid Wine on this laptop);
    -An openVPN client;
    -A terminal to remplace Xterminal;
    -A lightweigt tray manager.
It is not much a problem if the softwares have not a GUI, but it is prefered.
Any other recommendations for this netbook would be appreciated too ^^.
    Thanks in advance.

I love command line, but because I have to use some tools only with a GUI provided by my college and that I've got courses concentrated on making GUI, I will need a GUI interface.
For the code editor, because I wanted one with syntax highlighting and tab navigation, I found Geany (available in the community repository).
It mistly needs Gtk and almost nothing more, so it's not environment dependdan
For the two days I tested it, it goes pretty well.  Fast, lightweigt and there're a plenty bunch of fun features.
I'll use it the time I learn to use correctly and efficiently vi .
Thanks for rxvt-unicode, I like it more than xterminal (because of the tab feature) and pcmanfm is what I was searching for.
    Thanks a lot.

  • What's the best plugin for wide-angle / perspective correction

    Hi guys,
I do a lot of location photography with a wide angle lens. When shooting upwards it sends the top of the building into the distance. My workflow has been to export to Photoshop for these and use the 'Transform' tools to add a little correction.
Do any of you use an aperture plugin for this and if so, would you recommend one to me?
    Thanks for your help.
    Richard

Well, unfortunately Flash was the universal format, and then Steve Jobs decided that he did not like Adobe. As most browsers on Earth were FLV playback enabled and if not, were only a quick, free download away. Now, it seems that Apple's devices will only work with flavors of MOV. One can still download and install Apple's QT Player (though several recent versions did not work well with Adobe programs - Steve Jobs sabotage?).
Instead of coming together on universal formats/CODEC's, it seems that many wish to fragment the market to support just their products. One is at the mercy of these hardware and software companies. Producers probably should now do several versions of everything, if they wish to cover all bases. Someone will have to download and install something.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Problems with opening files in correct app

    Hi guys
Recently we have switched over at my company to OSX tiger. I work for a design firm doing artwork for various clients in the retail sector. We have a bank of logos and images on file that we use, mostly Illustrator eps saved in version 10 of the application. We are having problems opening these files in the right app. It keeps defaulting to opening in Photoshop. When we change the settings in get info and apply them to all, all our photoshop eps try and open in Illustrator. This is proving a real pain especially when opening the files from Quark after double clicking on the image and pressing the edit original button. Is there any way we can tell the system to open Illustrator files in Illustrator and Photoshop files in Photoshop.
    Cheers Thom

    Hi, Thom.
You wrote: "We have a bank of logos and images on file that we use, mostly Illustrator eps saved in version 10 of the application. We are having problems opening these files in the right app. It keeps defaulting to opening in Photoshop. When we change the settings in get info and apply them to all, all our photoshop eps try and open in Illustrator."You are describing the procedure in "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Changing the application that opens a document."
The problem is due to the fact that a given file type or extension, e.g. .eps, can be bound via "Change All" to only one application. If you bind (set the default application) all .eps to Illustrator, that's what they'll all open in.
For the situation you have, you need to bind the documents individually to the specific application. If you can gather a selection of the documents, you can use the contextual menu of the selection (Control-click or right-click the selection), hold the Option key, select "Always open with..." and select the desired application. The selected documents will open in that application and they will henceforth be bound to it until you again change the documents default application.
You can reset all the default bindings you've defined by using the Tiger-specific procedure in my "Resetting Launch Services" FAQ. Start with Step 6 since you also want to eliminate user-defined bindings.
    Good luck!

  • IPhone 4S - problems loading the app store to the correct app

Sorry for the cross-post, but I think I accidentally posted this in the wrong place.
This problem is only occurring on the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 is fine. We were hoping iOS 5.1 would fix the problem but it hasn't. The problem is very easy to replicate but I have been googling and can't find any discussion of it. To replicate:
    1. Launch app store and navigate to any random page. (Say Categories : Business : TurboScan)
    2. Close app store (not fully close, just press Home/close button), navigate to Safari, and click either of these links to our app:
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=307386350&mt=8
    or
    itms-apps://itunes.com/apps/directv
(actually the post editor won't let me make a regular anchor tag out of this one, so you'll have to paste it into your address bar)
The app store opens to the previous page that I had open (in this case TurboScan info page), not the Directv app which we are trying to direct the user to install.
If we close the app store and then click the link, it launches to the DTV app as expected. Also after some undetermined period of time (roughly 10 minutes) the problem seems to go away and the app store launches correctly to our app.
Any help on this issue would be massively appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Matt

FYI - I meant to say that to get the app store to work properly you need to fully close it by double-clicking the home button.

  • Keyboard app recommendation

The standard Android keyboards don't do non-Roman languages, which I need for some of my work, so I've looked into keyboard apps in Google Play. For several months I used GO Keyboard, which is quite good; but recently it began pushing a large number of ads (see this thread). I went looking again, and found Smart Keyboard, which has a free trial (fully functional, nag screen, but no ads) and an ad-free, nag-free paid version ($2.65 as of this date). Here's a short review for those who may be interested:
Smart Keyboard is highly customizable, with many options for appearance and functionality, including layout (normal, T9, compact); transparency; adding or removing a domain key (.com, etc.), mic key, and others; resizing keys; skins; etc. The multilingual functions are easy to use and customize. Two of my favorite features: (1) You can use text prediction/autotext and non-Roman keyboards on a physical keyboard if your phone is so equipped (switching languages with Shift+Space). (2) Long-pressing a key on the virtual keyboard inserts the alt character, e.g., long-pressing a inserts @, d inserts $; this saves a lot of switching to the symbol keyboard! There are a couple of things that could be improved: (1) add a key to take the virtual keyboard off the screen; (2) the Hebrew keyboard layout is very odd, unlike any I've ever seen, nonintuitive and hard to get used to. Overall, though, I recommend it very highly. If you can deal with the buy-me nag screens on occasion, the trial version works great. I think it's well worth the $2.65, though, especially if you have professional needs for non-Roman languages.

Now that IOS 8 allows for this sort of application to be done. Anybody hear of an app that could do the mentioned?

  • Need an App recommendation

I would like recommendations for the best application help me allow access to a group of documents on a shared drive from an IPhone. We use Iphones in our medicine group and I want to place some frequently used documents in a folder on a shared drive for use by physicians for reference. These documents need to be updated monthly, so I would like to keep them in one place and each time they sync up their phones the most updated documents would be in a folder on their phone. Any suggestions, comments, recommendations would be appreciated. Most of these are not tech savvy individuals, so the simpler, the better.
    Thanks,

I don't think that there are applications that work exactly the way you describe, as the sync for anything that will do what you want (like AirSharing or Documents to Go) requires a manual sync process on a local network that is not all that easy. One app that will achieve the objective but not the process is EverNote (www.evernote.com). It lets you store documents on its servers that can be accessed via the Evernote client from a PC, Mac, iPhone or web browser. Another to consider that is somewhat similar is livedrive (www.livedrive.com). It also has an iPhone client that allows access to content stored on its servers.

  • Perspective correction via crop tool.

I have always used the crop tool to correct skewed lines, both vertically and horizontally.  Not sure how to do it in the new Beta Version.

Perspective Crop is now its own tool. It is just under the Crop Tool stack.

  • Map/gps app recommendations

I have a 3rd generation ipad, wifi only. I'd like to use it for a walking/mapping aid around cities on an upcoming road trip. I know I'll need some kind of GPS receiver for it and also a map app. Does anyone have recommendations as to which (and whether there's a particular combination that work well together)?

Look at http://bad-elf.com/, They have an employee that also participates here regularly, ( I forget his name though)
