  • HP dv7-6135dx graphics issue

    Hello HP community,
A friend has just bought me the HP dv7-6135dx from Bestbuy. I searched reviews on the web for this model and many people talk about the switchable graphics that has really bad problems. Many say that the graphics does not switch and there are no traces of the ATI card on the banchmark tests. Others say that HP ignores the reports or are not aware of this problem.
    Comments about it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4Jd_VGCaKM
If there was an issue, is it fixed through driver and software updates ? I don't need workarounds and I don't need time to wait for HP to resolve this problem. I just simply need to know if there was indeed an issue and I need to know if there is an official fix for it.
Please let me know asap because he must bring it to me in Bucharest these day and it's a long way in the USA to return it back.
    Thanks.

    hi david
the laptop just seems a bit slow for the spec that it actully is, and the timings for the ram are just appalling.  tweeking the ram i feel would make it run the way i want it to. it could be me though being a bit paranoid and thinking its slow when in fact its not,at first glance when i went into cpuz i saw 667mhz and i remember back i the day when i had ddr2 running at that freq.but i do trust your judement  alarm bells started to ring in my head when i saw 667mhz.
so for an upgrade then would i be correct thinking that i can use any laptop memory up1600mhz and no more than 8gig. is the 8gig limitation due to the motherboard.
god i need a bios mod it would help so much.

  • Hp dv7-6135dx recovery attempt failed

I have an out of warranty HP dv7-6135dx The hp specifications say it had windows 7 home premium 64 bit The hard drive went bad so I replaced the original 750gb drive with a 500gb drive, they are both Advanced Format drives but not from the same manufacturer... Anyways, I ordered new recovery discs for my laptop from hp and ran them... It goes all the way through the 3 hour process and at the very end it comes up with message that says, recovery attempt has failed. And then it gives me three options: save log, details, retry. If you press details it shows you a CTOERROR.FLG file....
The file says p2pp burnboot check failed...
    It also says...
    (registrydevicecheck)
    result=failed.
    Failed device #0
    Description : unknown device
    Pnpdeviceid ; usb\vid_0000&pid_0000\6&283b6af9&0&2
    Code : (43)
And at the bottom it says...
    Sysprep_succeeded.tag does not exist . . .
Bbvlast.cmd : (20x) CTOERROR.flg is detected at the end of BBV process
Really need to get this figured out....

Alright, I was able to get windows installed... now I'm trying to install the drivers... Do you have to install them in a certain order or way? I'm having trouble installing a lot of them. I'm not even sure I need to install ALL of them. Are some of them for components I don't have on my laptop?

  • Fan Gets EXTREMELY loud on HP-dv7-6135dx laptop

    Hey everyone,
I love my HP laptop and this is the first issue I’ve ever had with it.  Sadly, it’s like my child, and I love it so.  I am very worried about it.  In the past few weeks the fan has gotten ridiculously loud and sometimes it’s to the point that it makes the computer vibrate never mind being annoying.  I went in the BIOS settings and changed the fan from being always on to on and off so it does shut off sometimes now.  I've tried spraying some canned air into the vent to clean it and it helps a little then is back to loud shortly after.  The fan probably needs to be replaced but seeing as my laptop is out of warranty I don't know what to do.  I could take it to Geek Squad or a local PC repair store.  Does anyone know how much a fan replacement on a laptop usually costs?  Is it hard to do yourself?  This is very distressing.  I haven't had any issues with overheating yet as I always keep the laptop on a desk and I have an oversized battery so the laptop always has airflow beneath it.  I downloaded a program called Speedfan and had no luck with adjusting the fan speed.  I just really want this to be fixed and not cost me an arm and a leg as I am laid off.  Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what I should do.  The fan wasn't always like this as I said this happened not long ago.
    Its an HP dv7-6135dx Notebook
    It's product number: LW174UA#ABA
I am running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1
    The processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz
The GPU is Radeon (TM) HD 6490M integrated with Intel(R) HD Graphics Family Chip (switchable)
    Thanks Alot,

    Tragetica,
The estimates given could be accurate -- it depends on where you, the quality of the replacement parts, from whom you order, whether you do the work yourself.  I use HP parts and I order from HP; I have that option.  The simplest approach is to call and ask for help if this option is available for you.
    Contact HP

Disassemble the HP Pavilion dv7 laptop
Here is the Service and Maintenance Guide for the dv7:
HP Pavilion dv7 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide
YouTube is a great resource - Watch, watch, and look around at what is available.  There are videos on the subject that can help you decide whether you want to do this yourself.  Even if you do not do the job on your own, you will be better informed when you take in or send the unit for repair.
Remember that a key factor in any repair is the repair itself and to keep from damaging anything else in the process.  Be sure you have backups - more than one set and more than one kind - BEFORE you do anything that requires you to take apart your computer or to send it to anyone else for repairs.
Because you are having issues with the fan, I would suggest it is important to have at least the Image backup of your system done anyway -- just in case you need it.  That fan may quit working and you want to have a means of recovery.

  • HP dv7-6135dx. Multi-monitor problems due to hardware

I purchased the HP dv7-6135dx laptop, as I was told that this laptop would support 2 external monitors (to run the extended desktop).
However the physical configuration of the HDMI and VGA ports are too close: You cannot attach both the HDMI and VGA cables at the same time.
If you look at a photo of the laptop you will see what I mean:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat13506&type=page&skuId=2678499&productId=1218343867581&... View 4&h=387
What suggestion do you have, so I can connect both cables simultaneously and run 2 external monitors.
    Thanks.

I have seen vga cables that don't have the screws on either side that would work with a small form factor hdmi cord. You could also do something like this http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Splitter-Amplifier-Dual-Display/dp/B0015YRMXI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1314...

, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  If you are downloading this from the AMD site it may not work.  The video chipset is built by AMD Radeon however it is propriatary.  Unless you download the software for the system from the notebooks support site it may not work.  As well you have to check to see if that notebook was released or was given windows 7 as an os. Here is the link to the support page. HP Pavilion dv7-6135dx Entertainment Notebook PC - Software and Drivers If your system came with it pre- loaded then you can do a system recovery to get it back.  You will have to back up all your data before this. HP PCs - Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7) Please let me know how things go.  Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

  • Pavilion DV7-6135dx

Hi. I had to reformat an HP Pavilion DV7-6135 dx and its missing a bunch of drivers. Since the usb's dont work yet, I'll have to put all of the drivers on a disc and install them that way. I guess the first thing I need is the USB drivers and then the correct ethernet LAN driver. Can you hook me up with those two please and then I'll go from there. Heres a snapshot of device manager if that helps. thanks, DD

    Hi:
Unfortunately, it doesn't help much without the hardware ID's.
Here are some of the drivers.
Install the smbus controller driver first and reboot.

  • No sound on dv7-6135dx Entertainment PC

My PC suddenly lost sound. Please advise in detail.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55094.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
If you still have no audio, open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services.  Check that the following services are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic
    Audio Service
    Multimedia Class Scheduler
    Windows Audio
    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.

  • Graphics Card for hp dv7 6135dx

Hi i just would really like to know if there is any way to upgrade my graphic card for my laptop?

    Hi:
Yes, you can upgrade the video card from your existing one, to any of those listed in chapter 3 of the service manual at the link below, starting on page 26.
In order to upgrade the video on your notebook however, the entire motherboard needs to be replaced.
The costs attendant to doing such an upgrade would exceed the cost of buying a new notebook with the graphics solution you want, after selling or trading yours in.

  • How can I switch between 2 installed video cards?

I have an HP Pavilion dv7-6135dx Entertainment Notebook PC, Windows 7 64-bit. It has two video cards, one is a Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics card attached to the motherboard, the other is an AMD Radeon HD 6490M video card meant for gaming. The problem is that the computer and all the games and software I install on it only pickup on the Intel HD card, not the Radeon. I have the Catalyst Control Center for the Radeon card and it shows up in the device manager meaning the computer recognizes the card, but I can't download any drivers for the Radeon card from the Internet and nothing else seems to recognize it. This Radeon card series, 6400M, has OpenGL 4.1 and 3D graphics, the amd.com site specifically states this, but games with 3D or which require OpenGL, such as Bethesda's Brink, won't play. The errors say my graphics card does not support 3D or, in Brink's case, it doesn't have OpenGL 3.1 or higher. I'm assuming something is blocking the Radeon Card from working or I need to set the computer to use the Radeon card 24/7. Any help what so ever would be very much appreciated.

Yes I just used HP to install the drivers. It worked unlike the AMD website, but it still doesn't seem to be working. It has all the updates now, but games stil don't seem to recognize the Radeon card, just the Intel HD video card.

  • Distortion when recording

    Hi,
I recently bought a dv7-6135dx and I have been trying to record with Audacity. While recording everything is fine, but when I play it back it sounds very distorted. Audacity says that I have three options for recording devices. Microsoft Sound Mapper and Integrated Microphone Array both distort the audio, but Stereo Mix plays it back perfectly fine. I also tried an external mic, but that distorted it as well. Is there any way that i can fix this?

Uninstall the audio/sound drivers from Control panel completely and restart the computer. Install the updated drivers from here

  • Sound isn\'t working on hp pavillion

I have a HP pavillion dv7-6135dx entertainment pc.  Recently I was burning a CD from itunes when the computer crashed.  I restarted it, and since then the sound doesn't work.  I have run the diagnostic tests, whcih show the sound is working but nothing is coming out of the speakers.  I have double and triple checked to make sure the sound is turned on.  I have unistalled and re-installed the hd sound, i have re installed beats audio.  Any suggestions?  I fear that I am just going to have to to do a system restore, or just Office Space this thing.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55094.exe

When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
