PF Usage has gone sky high?

Ok, I just recently built the system in my sig and all is going well so far...I have an issue trying to access the ht multi's in the BIOS(the system freezes)...Sometimes it doesn't boot into Windows...Nothing major major, the same as the next guy it seems...
This afternoon I tried to install CoreCenter and immediately after installing, the system locked up...After 3 restarts and lock ups just after booting to Windows I decided to go in using safe mode...I uninstalled CoreCenter and the rig booted right up...But now all of a sudden my PF usage is between 450 - 500MB with 22 processes running in the background...Yesterday with the same processes running it was between 120 - 150MB...I don't know what happened but I don't like it...I ran a full system virus scan, Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware...I deleted a few things with Spybot S&D but that was it...Nothing else was detected...I'm stuck here people...The only thing I know is that the programs that are usually running in the background are using 2 - 4 times as much memory as they normally do...Any ideas? Thanks.

The HT frequency in the Cell menu will cause the system to freeze if you try to access it in the conventional way. You have to just highlight the selection and use the + & - keys on the num pad to select the HT frequency.
As far as the PF usage going up, ahh..I dunno.
Give us a screen shot of the Task Manager.
Go through "msconfig" and see if there is anything in there that shouldn't be.
You may also want to download and run HijackThis and post a log in one of the forums that troubleshoot them.

You could also PM me with the log as well.

  • What has gone wrong?  Data usage went from 1/2 gigabyte for last 2 years to over 3gigabytes.  I am not doing anything differently.

    Data usage has increased dramatically.

How much data is reported for each app? Does it total 5.2 GB?
Also, check your usage with your carrier on their website.
In Settings go to iTunes & App Stores. Be sure use Cellular Data is off. And probably Automatic downloads also.

  • GNOME Shell login failed "Oh no! Something has gone wrong.."

Firstly I saw many threads about this problem, but my problem still remains.
I have installed GNOME Shell (3.12.2) along KDE :
    sudo pacman -S gnome-shell gnome gnome-extra
Both worked fine until I have force installed `network-manager-applet-gtk2` : (which had conflict with `network-manager-applet`)
    sudo pacman --force network-manager-applet-gtk2
After that, Gnome won't login and gets me following error at startup : (Alt+F4 not working)
Oh no! Something has gone wrong... Log Out
    What's wrong with GNOME?
    P.S:
    KDE works fine.
I'm using KDM (However gdm is installed).
    journatctl -b -0

  • Broadband Usage has increased exponentially

    Hi Guys
Since January my broadband use has gone through the roof!!  For years we've been on a 40GB limit and have never exceeded this.  For the past 3 months we've hit nearly 100GB!!!!
2 new devices are using the connection since then, laptop and iPhone.  Other devices connected are 1 laptop, 2 Xboxes kids using xbox live for gaming.
I've installed ttb on both laptops and it's definitely not the additional laptop increasing the usage.  Have an app on the iPhone as well to track wifi usage and again it's definitely not that.
The kids aren't using the xboxes anymore than they have previously, still the same amount of gaming and using Sky Go.
We don't even download movies/music/tv series so I'll stumped as to how all of a sudden it has increased so much.
The only other thing that has occurred was the OpenReach modem was replaced mid January - could there be a configuration problem on it?
    Thanks for any responses

Well, those could easily take you over the limit. Most streams will take advantage of any available bandwidth, and will stream at the highest possible quality.
Quite a few people on this forum have experienced the same issue since getting BT Infinity.
Also remember that uploads and downloads both count towards your usage.

@I run a Windows 8.1 -  Photoshop CS5 under Parallels on an iMac one year old and both having the latest OS. I use a NIK plugin "VIVEZA" which run fine for years without a problem. Latelt and without a reason, the NIK plugin has gone corrupt, (can not use it more the 2 corrections after a get a black background message that there is not enough memory) and the system stops running and a must restart is required. How do I fix this terrible problem?
If it requires a Photoshop CS5 re-install, (I belief that it may fix the problem) and re-install the two third party plugins (NIK Viveza) and (Onone Perfect Resize) how and where do I get to the proper Adobe upload page to do that.
    I have tried to fix this problem by changing the memory allocations, I have spend many hours on it and are very disgusted with it but it needs to be fixed. The current memory settings are;
    Ram available = 1588 MB
    Range = 873 -1143 MB
Recommended Photoshop usage range =  857  however I have tried every setting to max and in between. Nothing works. Current setting = 1588 (max)
The Photoshop I use is registered, I have product # and order # .

Contact NIK for updated/upgraded versions of their plug-ins.  They have been having a lot of issues with their plug-ins.

  • My iPad mini ran out of battery when installing an app and now the app has gone?

I updated Quiz Up today while my iPad mini had 2% battery left! and I thought this would be enough but just as the update was installing my iPad ran out of battery so I immediately put it on charge! when my iPad turned on the app was still there but was darker and said 'waiting' underneath, so I then went to the App Store to continue to update but when I went to the updates section the update was gone, I them we to back to the apps location and the app had gone, so I went to reinstall it but it only said open next to it, and when I press this it does nothing, I would like the app back but I don't know how to get it back, any suggestions? I thought the all might be corrupt but I can't delete it and reinstall it because the icon has gone and it doesn't show up in spotlight, so what do it do?

    Maybe:

  • Battery power consumption has gone mad...!

    I have an iphone 5 IOS 7.0.4
Suddenly the battery consumption has gone crazy.  The phone feels warm and and 100% of power is used over 4hours with phone in standby.
The power lasts if I turn off mobile data.  I have no apps running and location services icon is not showing?
I did find that I have used up all of my icloud storage .. I have resolved this issue now..
There seems to be a hidden process that is using power..  I do not know how to track this down... any suggestions please?

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
Sorry to hear that you're having issues with battery performance.
I recommend that you first check what's using battery. Charge the battery full and then use the phone as you normally do. When battery level is low, go to Settings -> Power management -> Battery usage. What does it say here? By tapping the apps/functions in the list you can also se how long they have been active.

  • My Mac has gone really slow since upgrading to Mavericks. Any suggestions as to how to speed things up again?

My Mac has gone really slow since upgrading to Mavericks. Any suggestions as to how to speed things up again?

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Can't explain where my credit has gone

In May I got a skype landline and the account was credited with £10. Since then the auto recharged has credited the account twice with another two orders of £10 each. So a total of £30. My balance currently reads as £12.77 so Skype claims I have used £17.23. However when checking the account usage for May I find 21p of calls and no SMS and in June to date I find £3.25 of calls and 34p of SMS with no Wifi for either month as I haven't used it. So this gives me a total spend according to my SKype account of £3.80.
So my question is ...where is the remaining and unaccounted for £13.43?
I have attached an image of screen shots taken of my account usage info. Payments of £11.50 (skype credit of £10) were made on the 21st May, 16th June and again yesterday.
I want an explanation of where the rest has gone and I want the ammount added back onto my account. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Hello
Your account shows that you have a 1-month Skype Number which recurs @ GBP4.025 monthly and Skype Credit with an Automatic Top Up enabled. Your credit balance is currently GBP12.77.
Total call expenditure May/ June to date = GBP17.24. This includes forwarded calls, calls to cellphones in UK and in other countries. If you think that this is incorrect please contact Skype customer service
TIME ZONE - US EASTERN. LOCATION - PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA.
I recommend that you always run the latest Skype version: Windows & Mac

  • Audio has gone from loaded apps

My audio has gone from loaded apps, I have no idea why, my iPad tells me volume is high & I switched on keypad sounds but still nothing except when I'm using the Internet, BBC iPlayer etc, any ideas anyone please?

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • Airport Wireless Networking on my Macbook has gone completely unstable.

I've started having a problem with Airport on my Macbook 13 as soon as I updated it. Though there were signs the Airport was playing up just before the Macbook advised me to update Airport.
When I try to connect to my home wireless signal which has WEP encryption it connects eventually when it can see it, but it sees about six other secure and insecure networks in my neighbourhood, and seems to prefer to connect to one over the other side of the street. When I take the macbook right into the room where the Netgear Wireless signal is transmitting high up on a bookshelf, I finds a signal and connects. I then try to browse to a website and the Airport starts scanning again and loses the signal
The wireless Access point isn't fluctuating as it still connects to my PC upstairs further away from the the WAP than the Macbook is.
If I walk into the next room with the Macbook the signal goes weak again and airport starts re scanning and drops the signal. Strangely if I connect illegally to the network across my street that has no encryption it holds the signal in a weak state about 20% and browses to website perfectly.
I can't work out how to refresh Airport or roll back to previous version.
Has anyone got any idea how I can resolve this?
I'm currently connecting with a USB mobile broadband modem using a different ISP from my home network because the Airport just isnt stable enough any more. The mobile modem is proving a more reliable connection than trying to use my home network wirelessly.
I'd be very grateful for some directives as to what I can do to solve this.
    Thanks
    Plado

Thanks for your helpful info. I must say at this point though that there are still some issues I have considerable trouble with. I'm sorry to give the impression that I'm having a rant or "having a go" at Mac about this but the Macbook has consistently wrong footed me ever since I got it last year.
When I tried to Extract the zip file contents it refused to put them into the Library/keyboard layouts folder the way it had instructed me to do. It made another daughter folder under Keyboard layouts and called it by the zip file name. I tried moving them into the Keyboard Layouts folder and it refused to do it. Macbook doesn't handle zip files anywhere near as efficiently as Windows.
Another issue I have is with logging out. Don't laugh but I've never logged out since I had the Macbook because when I did a backup of the system using some strangely named application that backed up to an external drive, I found that the macbook locked me out when I'd forgotten my original login user name and password.
I had to set up a new one after more help from forums and now it continually nags me about whether I want certain information to be remembered in the Keychain which is yet another mystifying process that I've never had to use before.
Now I log in to keychain items using the new password even though I wish it didn't need one. I am afraid to log out in case the silly thing forgets what password I last used and locks me out of my own system again. It has a habit of doing this.
This security obsession has gone beyond a joke. Who needs it?
In fact I don't even know how to log out, so can you assure me that if I log out I will be able to get back in without being told that I've entered the wrong password?
When you look at this calmly and logically you realise that this is a pathetic amount of complicated nonsense just to change a keyboard layout to the British one that the darned thing should have had an option for when it was new - built-in to the system like all other National or International language settings.
Once it has been changed successfully it won't have the keys swapped over to read the correct new configuration so it's even more ridiculous.
Thank you for your help. I appreciate it. Sorry to display my frustration. The macbook is not very far from an open window and it won't take much to lob it from here to the middle of next week!

No, iTunes will/can download the latest version from the App Store but you won't be able to sync it to your iPhone 3G with IOS 4.2.1.
What I meant was do you still have the old version on iTunes?

  • Broadband usage has doubled and I don't know why

    Hi there
Just received a warning message that I am about to exceed my 40gb limit.  Normal monthly usage has been 18gb apparently and we don't know why the increase has occurred.  We have no kids at home, we don't stream films or videos or play games, I've downloaded 1 music album this month and we've surfed the net as usual.
    Can this usage be verified?
Any tips on checking whther someone else is using our broadband....is this possible?
Any tips on why this might be happening...it's puzzling.
Is there an indpependent (non BT) way of monitoring and measuring broadband usage?
    Dom

    Hi dr58.
In my experience the only way to sort this out is to hope that your post draws the attention of a forum moderator. Anyone on the phones will try and convince you that you are indeed downloading 20 albums a day, uploading 3000 pictures a week etc etc and "it all mounts up" and you would be far better on an Unlimited Package.
I had problems (in fact thinking about it, this time last year) where my usage had crept up and according to BT my son and I were using 90gb a month, despite no streaming, gaming etc. I am on a 40gb package like yourself so was incurring £50 charges each month. In the end it was resolved with BT agreeing it wasn't possible for us to be getting through that amount but as I wasn't using a BT router at the time it was impossible to prove that someone hadn't been piggybacking my wifi. (I'd changed passwords during the high readings to no avail anyway).
My personal advice would be to keep a daily eye on your broadband monitor, screenshot them if need be, if you have been out during the day or away for any great length of time also note the readings that appear for that day. I also check my BT homehub to make sure only the devices in my house are hooked in just in case.
As it happens I've also noticed a big jump in my readings this month, I have just a few GB to spare but in my opinion the readings are still high compared to what I was noting at the tail end of last year after I finally had SeanD look into the matter for me.
I do hope that the meters arent going up the creek yet again because I've sworn that if it should happen again I'm walking to a different company this time around.
Best of luck and I hope you get the information you need and the situation resolves itself.

I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

I recently connected my new ipad to my itunes, but now itunes will not recognise my ipod classic, and 50gig of music has gone. ipad connects ok but no longer ipod which has been there for two years! help!!!

What happens when the iPod is plugged in?  anything?  any errors?
Why is 50GB of music gone?  All music should exist on the computer.  Only a fool would rely on a single device which could easily be lost or stolen to store their content on.
