PG 522 Field Point I/O Activity Lights always on even when no output is requeste

I am making Time Duration outputs to a PG-522 Module. SOmetimes, even when I have no output the activity light stays on all the time. The only way to clear it is to reset the Field Point Communications. What could Cause this to happen?

Hi Pat,
The activity light does not tell you if your channel is in the ON or OFF state.  It tells you if the channel is generating pulses.  According to the manual, if you  are using the 1s resolution the max ON/OFF time is 65,535s.  This could cause the activity light to stay on while it looks like you have no output.

My Airport Express 2nd WAN Port light always on, even when nothing is connected.
Is this normal? The Airport utility also said that I didn't connect anything to the port - when there is a lan cable connected from the main Airport Extreme.
The computer can connect to the WiFi from the Airport Express properly, but with blinking yellow and no internet connection, also it cannot obtain the ip address.
After setting the Airport Express to the Bridge mode, the computer cannot access to the Airport Express anymore, with "Connection Time Out" error.
The Airport Express was 3 days old, and was working properly until today. There is also one blackout today because of the storm.
Had reset the Airport several times, didn't solve the problem.

Hi again. That is a good idea. Check if router can grab an ip from your modem since wireless local connection through the router is working. If it can grab an ip and works fine on wireless, then you might have a problem with the ethernet ports. You might want to try assigning an ip address on the wired connection and see if ip of router is pingable. If really not working at all, possibility that router is not working properly anymore.

I recently noticed that the light on the magnetic connection to my charger for my laptop is always on even when it isn't connected to the computer. I keep it plugged in. I don't remember it being like that in the past so I'm wondering if something is wrong.

Whether your product is in or out of warranty, you can take your adapter to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store for evaluation and replacement if necessary. Pending the results of the evaluation, you may or may not be eligible for a replacement adapter free of charge. Signs of accidental damage would negate any coverage. Be sure to bring in the computer used with the adapter; it is required to process potential adapter replacements.

  • Hard Drive Light remains on even when system is powered off

HP xw8600 Workstation running XP SP3
In the past couple of weeks I am getting a lot of blue-screen errors with varying error codes, mostly pointing to problems with the C: drive. But what troubles me is that my hard drive activity light remains lit constantly, even when the system is powered off. The only way to make the light go out is to physically unplug the power cord from the computer. As soon as I plug the power cord back in, the HDD LED lights up.
I have Googled, Yahooed, and Binged this problem to death, and gotten nothing but pages and pages of why the hard drive would be busy when the machine is powered up. But powered down?
I ran HP's hardware diagnostics (found no problems, it never does) and have even disconnected the hard drive and moved it to another identical box (we have about 25 xw8600 boxes) and the problem did not follow. The HDD LED on this box remains lit with the power off and no hard drives connected.
I should note that the power light functions properly, I have checked the wiring and it's not backwards.

Hello WAVYTV, The symtoms you describe sound suspiciously like a faulty motherboard.
There may be a possibility that you could also have a faulty power supply.

Do you have the "Wake on Lan" setup in the BIOs? The feature allows the computer to be woken up my network inputs. You will need to boot into the BIO to turn off this feature. You may be able to disable this feature in Windows 7 as well. Here is a good article on how to disable/enable the Wake on LAN feature: Wake-on-Lan (WOL) for Windows 7 Made Easy!

  • Cisco881W poe status light always on even not connected any devices.

I noticed yestedday, the poe status lights on front is stay on even not connected any devices on port 0 and 1. Is this the normal ?
    Thank you,

So, I had my laptop sent to an "authorised HP service" in my country, and it came back with more problems than before.
So, let me tell you my story :
I've sent my laptop to System Plus ( http://www.system-plus.ro/ ) where the result of the diagnostics was the following:
    - deffective motherboard ( p/n: 651358-001 )
    - power on/off button ( p/n: 651360-001) - and I have to admit that I didn't had any problem with this one
    - latch cover
"Rezultat diagnoza:     = MB defect- led pw ramane aprins. Ajustat clema cover; inlocuit MB, constatat led power button defect /02dec13"
In translation: Diagnosis result: = MB fault pw LED remains lit. Adjusted latch cover, replaced MB, found faulty power LED button / 02dec13
The parts replaced were the following:
    - motherboard
    - card reader
"Operatiuni efectuate:    = Inlocuit MB+card reader"
In translation: "Operations performed: = Replaced MB + card reader"
So, in the end I took my laptop back from System Plus and fount out that it has more problems than before.
Power LED is still ON, even though I was told that they've tried with two NEW motherboards and still had this issue, a thing which I really don't believe.
The white led on the Power ON/OFF switch that worked before sending it for repairs, now doesn't work anymore, although in the service papers they say that the power on/off button was replaced
Now the laptop OVERHEATS, in idle mode it reaches aprox 65 degrees ...
Please advise me on what to do next ... Now my machine is worser than it was before.
Hoping for a replacement from Hp ...

  • At one point, I accidentaly chose to always save tabs when exiting. i fixed this by reseting browser.startup.page to 3; however, while it now asks me, even when i click no it never opens the next session to my homepage, only to what the last tab was.

When trying to close multiple tabs, mozilla warns me and asks if i want to save. Even if I click no, the next time mozilla opens it opens to the last open tab of the previous session. If there is only one tab open when i close firefox it does not ask me, but will still load that tab when firefox next opens.

So, I fixed it...but I'm not quite sure how. I compared, line by line, my about:config with the one on my houses main computer...only did about two screen's worth, but I changed some values to match the other computer and the problems gone!

  • Field Point FP-1000 communication issue - Device found but offline in MAX

    Hello,
I am trying to control several field point PLCs in a level tank. They are communicating through a FP-1000 module. I am able to add the devices through a configuration file in MAX. But there is an error saying " The device is offline. Make sure the device is connected and its power is on. " All of the field point PLCs have green light on for both " Power" and "Ready". I am not sure what the issue is here. I am using Labview 2014 and Field Point , VISA drivers are installed. Please see attached pictures for details.

Thanks for your reply. I installed the most updated version for both ones. It turns out the configuration file for FP-1000 bank points to the wrong COM port for the Serial communication. I am able to communicate with the system now. I do have another problem through. I only have excutable labview files and a configuration file for the control system that I am working with. The original VI project file were lost. After importing the right configuration file in MAX, I installed the excutables and tried to run it. There is no response at all.The labview only last a few seconds and stopped. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Personally, I don't often have the need to find a file by it's contents, so I turn off Stirgi.  I leave Nepomuk on.   If you do nothing and leave them both on, the system should finsh indexing -- eventually   My home directory has a lot of source files, including the source for the kernel.  Indexing all that takes about a day.  If you turn on Strigi, you can use the advanced settings to limit its search to specific directories.  You can also filter by file type.  I am always hit by the known bug in which indexing gets hung up in certain pdf files and runs one of my CPUs up to 100% until I kill it.
Disk drives are pretty reliable, I don't worry (much) about excess disk activity being a serious risk to the drive.  I do dislike serious disk activity because it impacts the responsiveness of my system and because it has a serious impact on power consumption (usually because there is some code actively running that needs to be fed data by that disk activity).

  • HD Activity Light---Doesn't!

Noticed in the last week or so that my HD activity light does not glow when there is obvious HD activity--boot-up, using Windows Explorer, etc..  The light is OK, as it glows just briefly at boot time.  AND, I hooked it to the 2-pin output on JPF1 for the power LED, and it glows brightly and steadily.
Only change to config was about a month ago, when I added the Kingwin Removable disc tray.    I specifically watched, and could see, the HD activity light when I inserted the tray with the 80GB WD drive, and did a backup.  BOTH the main HD light, and the light on the Kingwin would flash, indicating activity on the two drives.  Then, within the last week or so, I noticed the main HD light doesn't flash with disc activity (the Kingwin still does, when I have that drive inserted and in use).
Checked connections to JPF1--even reversed the connector to be sure the polarity was right.  Still, no joy.
Any ideas?  The only thing I HAVEN'T done is a CMOS-clear.  Think that might help?
    Many thanks.

I know what I would do! I would choose either.
Good of MSI to offer you help!
Hm, the answer bugs me a little: "trace" is a small wire of a kind, isn't it, and how can a powered wire repeatedly light a diod for a fraction of a second and then become dark? Could it maybe be a short? It would make more sense if the pin wasn't fully fastened, but then LED should light when pushing the connection manually.
A "trace" is actually a very thin, narrow strip of copper on a printed circuit board, left after the etching process, which takes the place of wires that were used in the old discrete component days.  If a board is stressed (moved, flexed, or other action) a trace can break which, of course, breaks the electrical connection.  Such a break can even be temperature-sensitive, causing an intermittent interruption of the electrical connection when a particular temperature is reached.  (One poster suggested an intermittent wire, as a matter of fact.)
I have worked with computers (main frames) most of my life, and I can remember one instance where a printed circuit board would fail at certain times but not others.  The engineer finally discovered that the board failed in a fairly narrow temperature range.  Then another case happened where there were two identical computers side-by-side in an installation.  A particular program could be run on both computers, and one would fail while the other would not.  The engineer and I nailed it down to a specific section of code, including a "divide" command that appeared to be the culprit.  When we "single-stepped" the computer through that code, and the divide command, it worked, and continued to work after that.  Seems single-stepping may have forced current to flow through the particular piece of circuitry that performed the divide, either slower or longer than when the program ran at normal speed.  It almost appeared as if the enhanced flow of current "welded" something something that was previously intermittent.  Weird, but true!
I understand what many of you are saying, that the failure of this light is a small thing, when the mobo works in every other way.  But, I gotta tell you, that hard disk activity light is a great diagnostic tool when a system, or program is behaving erratically.  I really want it to work properly.  So, I am willing to spend the money to send the mobo to MSI, since they will repair or replace it.  They do return replacements at their expense, however.
And, Fredrik: you are probably right that few might be interested in continuing this thread.  Can't argue with you!  I originally posted it hoping others might have suggestions, or similar experiences.  Now, I continue posting to document the progress.  I'll bring this to a close with a final post when I receive my replacement mobo.

  • WD Elements 2TB + E4200 = HD light always on

I just purchased the E4200 (hardware version 1) and I couldn't be happier about it. Great router with amazing features.
I plugged my WD Elements 2TB, setup my media and FTP server and everything is working fine.
My only concern is about the HD light that is always on, even when nobody is accessing it. I turned off the Auto-scan option but the HD seems to be always reading something...
When this HD was plugged on my computer the light was on during access only.
Is it OK? I mean, isn't something that will decrease the HD lifespam? Is there a way to tell the E4200 to not access the HD when nobody is using it?
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The light on the HD indicates both power supply as well as its consecutiveness it is connected to the router , the light stands steady indicating that its powered on and also connected to the network.
A continuous blinking light may be a matter of concern . HD light being on and steady while connected to a router has no connection to the lifespan of the HD It only indicates that the drive is active and is ready to be accessed . It depends on the router which you are using whether it recognizes the HD all the time its connected or only when it is accessed .

  • Does field point have pulse train output greater than 50KHz

I am trying to develop a flexiable simulator using NI Field Point. So far my only concern is producing a pulse train of around 500KHz. Is there a way to do this with field points counter moudles or with some other methodology

There are currently no FieldPoint IO modules that output greater than 16 kHz. Specifically, the following modules can output at the listed maximum frequencies:
    FP-CTR-500: 16 kHz
    FP-CTR-502: 16 kHz
    FP-PWM-520: 1 kHz
    FP-PG-522: 2 kHz
You could use some external signal generation circuitry that is controlled by the FieldPoint modules, but the FieldPoint modules themselves can not handle that speed.

  • Can I measure Vibrating Wire Strain Gauges using Field Point Inputs?

Is wish to connect a Vibrating Wire Strain Gauge using Field Point.
The sensor requires a swept frequency excitation (typically 400 to 1500 Hz) and then generates a frequency output proportional to the strain applied on the vibrating element. The frequency (roughly upto 1kHz) needs to be measured.

What sort of resolution is needed on the frequency sweeping? There are currently four FieldPoint modules that can be used for generating pulsed outputs; the FP-CTR-500, FP-CTR-502, FP-PWM-520 and FP-PG-522. For the remained of this posting, I will use FP-CTR-50X to represent both the FP-CTR-500 and FP-CTR-502 as they are identical in functionality, different in their input/output stages.
The FP-PWM-520 is a Pulse Width Modulation output with 12 bit resolution on duty cycle and 16 bit resolution on the pulse period. The period is adjustable from 1 to 655535 milliseconds, which makes the module slightly less than ideal for frequency sweeping as it's highest frequency is 1 kHz and it's second highest frequency is 500 Hz.
The FP-PG-522 is a Pulse Generator module that can operate in an continuous pulse mode. The On Time, Off Time and resolution (time base) are adjustable. The smallest time base is 100 ms, for a maximum output frequency of 5 kHz. Like the FP-PWM-520, the FP-PG-522 adjusts it's output rates by changing the time rather than the frequncy, making it difficult to smoothly sweep across frequencies.
Finally, the FP-CTR-50X modules may be used. The FP-CTR-50X modules have 8 16 bit counters, 4 Gates and 4 outputs. The module has two internal clocks, 1 kHz ad 32 kHz that can be used to feed the counters. The outputs can be configured to toggle each time an adjustable terminal count is reached, allowing output pulse generation of up to 16 kHz (32 kHz internal clock divided by 2). The FP-CTR-50X modules have the advantage over the above modules in that the counters can be cascaded and set for differing terminal counts allowing multiple pre-scalers which may allow better resolution of generated frequncies.
For measuring the output frequency generated by the gauge, the only current modules that will allow you to directly measure the output are the FP-CTR-50X modules. However, as they were primarily designed for event counting, it takes a little bit of extra programming to allow them to be used to measure frequencies. The effectiveness of frequency measurement on the FP-CTR-50X modules varies on the sampling period, the programming and the network module. There are several KnowledgeBase and Developer Exchange articles talking about how to use a FP-CTR-50X module to measure frequencies, so I will not duplicate the information in this post.

  • How can I get all the options of Field Point Explorer 3.0.2 in Measurement and Automation Explorer 3.1?

I am a student using LabVIEW and Compact Field Point to implement a
senior design project in Electrical and Computer Engineering.  We
have LabVIEW 7.1 and a cFP-2020 and additional modules.  We are
trying to use the CTR-500 module to output a pulse train to drive a
stepper motor.  We have found instructions online of how to do
this, but they all use Field Point Explorer.  The instructions
make use of options in Field Point Explorer that are not included in
Measurement and Automation Explorer (the software included with the
    cFP).
I have downloaded Field Point Explorer 3.0.2 and followed the
directions.  Now, in LabVIEW, when I using the newly created .iak
file, I get a dialogue asking to find the SubVI: 'FP Read (Float Array
-IO).vi'.  Included with LabVIEW are subvis for FP Read, but not
with the float array part.  So I figure I cannot use Field Point
Explorer created .iaks with LabVIEW 7.1.  So how cannot I access
the same options in Measurement and Automation that I was able to find
    in Field Point Explorer?
    Thanks

    Hi,
FieldPoint Explorer is no longer used to configure FieldPoint systems. However, I do not think that the configuring your system in FieldPoint Explorer is causing the error.
FieldPoint systems are now setup in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX).  Information on setting up FieldPoint systems in MAX can be found in the MAX help under: Installed Products>> FieldPoint. Also, I recommend upgrading to the latest FieldPoint driver and version of MAX.  The FieldPoint VI's will be slightly different when you upgrade, so there is a good chance that this will eliminate the error.
