Phantom broken links in Dreamweaver CS6

Dreamweaver shows that I have 73 broken links, but they all work in my browser (and other people's browsers).  Why?  How do I get Dreamweaver to recognize that the links are not broken?
I am using Adobe Dreamweaver CS 6 on a Windows 7 PC.  The website is www.mathguy.us.  I set it up through GoDaddy.com
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Earl

Based on your comment, I took a look at the common thread on all of the missed files.  4 of them are PHP issues, like you suggested.  The other 69 links all had ampersands in them.  I suppose this is the issue.  I will try changing the file names to use "and" instead of "&" and see if that helps.  Thank you for your suggestion.
Update:  This worked.  I can deal with 4 identified broken links due to PHP.  Taking the ampersand out of the file names fixed the rest.  Thank you very much!

It is best to download scripts from Github and save them in your local site folder.

  • Where can I find a link to Dreamweaver CS6 trial?

I need to try Dreamweaver CS6 but cannot find the link. Any supposed link goes to Dreamweaver CC
As an aside, I have been 'chatting' with Adobe support for over 30 minutes and they cannot answer the question.  <sigh>

Have a look at the link below, scroll down to the box of download links (I don't know it they work but you can try)

I HAVE A CREATIVE CLOUD MEMBERSHIP AND I HAVE DREAMWEAVER CS6 INSTALLED ON MY LAPTOP...I RECENTLY CAME ACROSS ADOBE'S ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING DREAMWEAVER LATEST UPDATE SUPPORTING EDGE ANIMATE AND HTML5....
I FOUND OUT ON ALL THE ADOBE SITES. BUT STILL I HAVEN'T GOT A LINK THROUGH WHICH I CAN PURSUE DOWNLOADING THE UPDATE. I HAVE ADOBE APPLICATION MANAGER TOO INSTALLED ON MY LAPTOP. BUT IT ONLY PROMPTS ME SOMETIMES ABOUT THE UPDATES OTHERWISE I COULDN'T GO TO THAT LINK...
COULD YOU-ALL HELP ME OUT WITH THIS ISSUE ?

Before you update you need to read this: http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/release-note/dw-release-notes-092412.html
The update is a little weird, it drops some key features of Dreamweaver that are very useful like expanded tables mode for one thing, however if you don't use this go ahead and upgrade - there are instructions for what you do BEFORE you update on the page for the link above. It WILL wipe out any preferences that you have setup so you have to export those before updating to make sure that you can add them back once the update is finished.
Upgrade instructions below - remember to read the document linked above first. Good luck if you decide to upgrade, I personally wouldn't until they fix all the new problems, but it sounds like you have a specific need in mind.
    Upgrade to Dreamweaver Creative Cloud
This 12.1 upgrade includes fixes from the earlier Dreamweaver 12.0.1 patch release.
    Open Dreamweaver.
    Select Help > Updates.
In the Adobe Application Manager, select the Dreamweaver update.
    Click Update.

PSD layouts saved for web and devices show up as broken links in dreamweaver. Previews in browsers are fine, but I keep getting and error message that says the files have been blocked. What is the fix for this?

You can also try out Project Parfait. It's a new experiment from Adobe that’s currently online and free to try out and use.
It allows easy PSD comps-to code workflows.

  • PDF Open Parameters reported as broken links

I use the PDF Open Parameters in order to link to specific
    pages/locations in PDF documents:
    e.g. <a href="
    http://www.site.com/pdffile.pdf#nameddest=signup">pdffile</a>
However these always get reported as broken link within
Dreamweaver (CS3) and as broken anchors when I run other link or
page quality scans against the site.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so is it normal
behaviour? If this is an agreed standard then I would have expected
it to be recognised as a valid link/anchor.

It's expected behavior in DW. Since you're referencing a full
    URL, DW can't
see that when testing for broken links within a locally
    defined site. Due to
Adobe's and MS unwillingness to communicate...you're stuck
    with this
approach until the path issues get resolved.

  • Does Dreamweaver do a good job of  showing broken links?

I running a broken link check and DW says I have 700 broken, and 300 orphan. But I then check and nothing is wrong with most of those pages.
What is the difference orphan/ broken?
Anyway, I'm flustered. Should I try to find a 3rd party software that does this better in a clear interface? thanks.
    DW 9

    Hi Kevin,
Copying content from How to resolve link errors in Dreamweaver CS6. Click the link for more info.
Orphaned files are pages or images that are not in use or linked to from any place within your site. Although having orphaned files isn’t necessarily a problem, to ensure that you don’t have important files that are orphaned, choose Orphaned Files from the Show menu under the Link Checker section of the Results panel.

  • [CS5.5/CS6] what causes a kImportAndPlaceCmdBoss to throw an exception with broken links?

    I have a problem in both CS5.5 and CS6 on MacOS X.
During a drag operation onto an InDesign document, I import and place some images onto a page. This normally works without issue except in one case. The problem case is when I'm trying to import an image that is the same file path as a broken link on the document. This will crash InDesign everytime.
    Let me provide some details.
First, I create an InDesign document, drag some images from the Finder and place them on the page and save the InDesign document to file. Now I go to the Finder and delete the images (or just move them to a different Folder). I then go back to InDesign and look at the Links panel where the red stop signs now appear near the images to show that the links are broken.
Next I go to a panel that I'm working on where I can drag an item from the panel and onto the InDesign document page. In this I have a ProcessDragDropCommand method that over rides the method in the CDragDropTargetFlavorHelper class, and during that method it copies the images that I just deleted back into their original locations on the file system.
After copying the files, the process then tries to import one of the images into a new frame using the PlaceFileInFrame method from the InDesign SDK file SDKLayoutHelper.cpp. This method creates a kImportAndPlaceCmdBoss and when executing the line:
    if (CmdUtils::ProcessCommand(importAndPlaceCmd) != kSuccess) {
causes an exception that appears in the crash report as:
    Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILUE at 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
with a stack trace that points to the CmdUtils::ProcessCommand() line mentioned above.
I've tried relinking the images before the import and place, but that still doesn't work. If I break the process up so that in one drag event I copy the missing files back into place and relink them, then in a second drag event I then do an import and place it all works okay. It's just when I try the full task of copy images into place in the file system, relink the images on the InDesign document and then import and place an image in a new frame on the InDesign page that the exception is appearing.
Instead of the kImportAndPlaceCmdBoss I've also tried the kImportAndLoadPlaceGunCmdBoss with the same problem.
Interestingly, in the SDKLayoutHelper method PlaceFileInFrame that I'm using, there's a pragma message:
#pragma message("LINKREWORK: Temporary, fix this up later!")
    // TODO: LINKREWORK fix.
From the wording I'm wondering if this is related to the problem that I'm seeing. In which case does anyone know what this fix might entail?
I've tried tried relinking using ReinitResource and UpdateLinks methods that are a part of the ILkniFacade but that doesn't seem to help stop the crash.
Oddly, I can generate a strange and maybe related error (that doesn't use my plugins and just the raw InDesign functionality) if I do something like:
In InDesign, create an InDesign document.
From the Finder, drag some images onto the InDesign document page.
    In InDesign, save the document.
In the Finder, rename the folder containing the images.
In InDesign, check that the links really are broken with the red stop signs appearing.
In the Finder, rename the folder containing the images back to what it was before.
    (Extra Step)
In the Finder, redrag the same images that you did before onto the InDesign page.
This will cause InDesign to throw up the following error message:
Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by another application
Of course, if in the above you introduce an Extra Step where you just go back to InDesign and do nothing. InDesign will relink the once missing images, so that when you go back to the Finder to drag the images there's now no problem.
This is almost like InDesign needs a few IdleTasks in order to sort out its perception of the file system. If that's the case then I'm a bit stuck as I'm trying to do everything during a single drag operation and there's no chance of any IdleTasks occuring.
    Any ideas?

I have checked the Tomcat log, which does not give
    much information:
    ----- Root Cause -----

    ssage.java:61)
    at
    org.apache.struts.action.RequestProcessor.processActio
Perform(RequestProcessor.java:484)Tomcat has more than one log file. The servlet's System.out messages must be going to a different file if this is all you are seeing. Either look in the other log files or change the lines
             se.printStackTrace();
throw new MessageDAOSysException("Error executing SQL in ThreadHandler.createThread.");  // line 54 where the problem occurredto simply read:
throw se;and the actual Exception you want to investigate will go in to the file where you found the above. This will be less useful in the long run as you'll have the same problem when you want to query the SQLException further with System.out.println(se.getSQLState()); etc.
You could add a logging configuration to your servlets context in server.xml so you can define where such messages get logged.
Alternatively you could use a logging API like log4j.

  • Dreamweaver 8 - Problematic Broken Link Check

On a regular basis I use Dreamweaver 8's broken link checker
    to convert
relative links to absolute throughout single HTML files.
Once upon a time, I could use the results pane to quickly
    replace all
of the broken links. Ever since installing Dreamweaver 8
    (upgraded from
MX) I've had the following problem with the link checker:
    1. It seems to find all of the broken links correctly,
    however, when I
try to change them into absolute, it doesn't actually make
    the changes.
    2. Sometimes it even makes incorrect changes to the path of
    the link,
such as changing the image link to a .html link randomly (I
    have no
    idea how this happens!)
    3. When it asks if I'd like to replace the other references
    to the same
file, and I respond yes, it does nothing.
After researching this topic somewhat, I have found temporary
    solution,
but it's driving me crazy and I'm looking for a long-term
    resolution
    for this issue.
If I delete my WinFileCache-xxxxxx.dat file (under User >
    Application
    Data > Macromedia > Dreamweaver 8 > Configuration)
    before opening
Dreamweaver, the problem is resolved until the end of that
    specific
session. As soon as I close Dreamweaver and reopen it, the
    problem
    returns.
I understand that by deleting the WinFileCache file I am
    basically
starting with a clean slate, which is why this method is
    temporarily
effective. However, this is a daily problem for me and I'm
    sick of
having to do it every single time I use the program....
SO...if any of you have any thoughts, suggestions, or similar
complaints, please share - I'm desperate to find a long-term
    solution!
    Thanks!

The real question is - why are you regularly getting broken
    links? The only
reason I can think of is that your local site is actually on
    a remote,
shared network drive, and there is intermittant connectivity
    to it due to
some recurring network anomaly. Can you tell me how your site
    is defined?

  • Dreamweaver CS6 - update Links

    Hello
to make the story short,  i have started building my web site with dreamweaver cs6.
i create the first page of my web site then I saved the file alot of time to make my contact, product .....
know i started to link the "home, contact button and everything else"
but its not updating on all of the pages,
isn't it suppose to update on all the web page?
maybe i am doing something wrong .
    any help will be appriciated
    thanks alot

Unless your pages are created from a Template page (.dwt extension), then you will ahve to go into each individual page and manually correct the links to point to the correct resource. A Template page allows you to create a "template" that the rest of the pages of your site will be based off of. Within the template you define areas for page content (the areas where each page will be different). Then you start creating pages based off the template. Whenever you make a change to theTemplate, all the child pages based off that template will get updated (except the areas you defined for page content). When editing pages based off a template, you'll notice grayed-out areas of code - this is code that's locked down by the template and can't be edited within the child pages.
But before using Dreamweaver Template pages, please review the Dreamweaver help files and read about them - we have many people come to these forums who have gotten very lost trying to use templates so please do read and learn about them before using them.

  • Dreamweaver cs6 does not update links when moving files.

Dreamweaver cs6 does not update links when moving files. I've tried changing my general > settings for "Update links when moving files" to "prompt", and Ive tried "always". Neither work for me. The files are moved fine, but the links don't change. When it's set to "prompt" - I'm never prompted. Is this a bug or is there another setting somewhere?

In order for DW to manage links, you absolutely MUST Define a Site...

Also, you MUST use the Files tab within DW to move files around within your Defined Site in order for DW to know it needs to update links.

  • Installing Dreamweaver CS6 on Lion seems to have broken video playback

Last night I was able to play the videos on the Adobe website (for example, CS6 & Creative Cloud Feature Tour for Web) on both Safari and Chrome. After downloading and installing Dreamweaver CS6, I can't play those videos. The page loads but the display box remains blacked out. I verified that I was still able to play the videos on another computer on the same LAN. I also confirmed that I can still play videos at YouTube. It just seems to be Adobe's website that's broken.
My computer is a Mac Pro running OS X Lion. I installed CS6 using an administrator account and rebooted after the install complete.
Anyone else run into a similar issue?

Thank you for trying the install. It may just be a coincidence that just before downloading Dreamweaver, I could view the videos and after installing, I couldn't. Those things happen, unfortunately.
I found some similar issues in other Adobe Forums. I went into the Flash settings, enabled the option for third parties to save Flash components and added tv.adobe.com and images.tv.adobe.com as trusted sites. Now I'm able to view the videos again.

  • FTP Broken in Dreamweaver CS6 and CC

I have been unable to ftp into 1 of 3 websites that I maintain ever since upgrading to Dreamweaver CS6 (and now CC). The problem appears to be that the site's root directory name as reported by a PWD command is shorter than the name required to be issued by the CWD command after logging into the FTP server. CS5.5 logs into the website's FTP server without any trouble and the script looks like this:
< 220 Service Ready for new User

    > PWD
    < 257 "/gs16/SHARE/web/cvel" is Current Directory
    > QUIT
    < 221 Closing Session
    Any suggestions?

    Bhawna,
Yes. I can establish a connection without defining the site root folder. The directory that I login to by default is /EH05/users/hubing. One of the other sites that I maintain is in a subdirectory of that folder and Dreamweaver CC connects to that site without any problem. It just isn't able to switch to //gs16/gs16/share/web/cvel. Dreamweaver CS5.5 and WSFTP don't seem to have any problem with this.
Unfortunately, I can't send you the .ste file, because the password can't be shared. I appreciate your help though!

  • Broken Links not fixed after being changed-HELP PLEASE!

I am trying to fix a website I created for a friend. I created it in Dreamweaver CS6 on a Mac. Everything was working on the website, the pitures were showing up and now 2 of the pages arent working. On both pages the spry bar is not working and some of the pictures will not show up. I have went to find broken links and redirected it to the correct file but it is not changing anything. I am not sure how to fix this problem, if anyone has any advice that would be great!! The website is www.serenityatthebeach.com.

That line read correctly when I looked at it on the broken page colorcutstyle. I copied the code from the page if that would help. I hope this helps.

    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the div. The elements within this div have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.

  • Cannot use Dreamweaver CS6 because of "running for long time" script issue

Started getting this error yesterday, it’s killing me....
Dialog box says: "A script in file ~:Applications:ADOBE CS6:Adobe Dreamweaver CS6:Configuration:Shared:BC:JS:bc_sites.js has been running for a long time.  Do you want to continue?"
The message keeps persisting almost everytime I try to edit something, the Yes or No options don’t seem to do anythin other than remove the dialogue box temporarily.
Searched for a solution to this but only found unanswered questions, so I uninstalled the app, re-installed it and all seemed to be ok for a short while and now the issue is back.
I’m using business catalyst and like the improved imtegration, but this is broken!!
    Please Help..

    very bland support me thinks...
I'm a strong supporter of DW and Adobe, but it's one of the reasons I'm not in the Cloud or using BC.  Support is charged at a per-incident or corporate rate: http://www.adobe.com/support/programs/ .
You can try trashing that Configuration folder ( http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/troubleshoot-javascript-errors-dreamweaver-cs4.html - See steps 12 & 4 for details).  But that's about the extent of community support here for most technical issues.  Seeing as how you have only 3 posts since April  you probably were not around the last time customers spoke up and complained and prompted the Lambert Walsh letter almost 3 years back now. ( http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/08/open_letter_to_our_customers_o.html ).  Just don't be afraid to speak up or write to Adobe, they will listen.
