Phantom Context lookup or Is "java:" some kind of keyword ? ? ?

I'm attempting to implement my own Context for capturing performance information out of a third party applications. I've run into a strange problem where the method call doesn't aways work even though the signature appears to be correct, with the only diffence being is the contents of the String that is passed in as a parameter. If the string starts with "java:" the method is not called. In the example below only "lookup [my-ruleHome]" is printed, I'd have expected "lookup [java:comp/UserTransaction]" to be printed as well.
package com.blah;
import javax.naming.*;
import java.util.Hashtable;
public class MyContext implements Context {
    Context realProviderCtx = null;
    public MyContext (Hashtable env) throws NamingException {
      env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
      realProviderCtx = new InitialContext(env);
    public Object lookup(String name) throws NamingException {
       System.out.println("lookup [" + name + "]");
       return realProviderCtx.lookup(name);
package com.blah;
import java.io.*;
// Packages for Servlets
import javax.servlet.*;
import javax.servlet.http.*;
import java.util.Collection;
import java.util.Iterator;
import java.util.Properties;

import java.rmi.RemoteException;
import javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject;
import javax.transaction.UserTransaction;
import javax.ejb.CreateException;
import javax.ejb.RemoveException;
public class SomeServlet extends HttpServlet {

    super.init(config);

                                        throws ServletException, IOException {
     Collection rules = getRules();

  public Collection getRules() {
    Collection rules = null;
    Properties env = new Properties();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "blah.MyInitialContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://app-dev-01.blah.com:7003");
    try
      Context cntx = new InitialContext(env);
      UserTransaction ut = (UserTransaction) cntx.lookup( "java:comp/UserTransaction" );
      ut.begin();
      RuleHome ruleHome = (RuleHome) cntx.lookup("my-ruleHome");
      rules = ruleHome.findAll();
      ut.commit();
    catch (NamingException ne)
       System.out.println("NamingException " + ne.toString());
       ne.printStackTrace();
    catch (FinderException fe)
       System.out.println("FinderException " + fe.toString());

       System.out.println("SystemException " + se.toString());
    } catch (javax.transaction.HeuristicMixedException hme) {
       System.out.println("HeuristicMixedException " + hme.toString());
    } catch (javax.transaction.HeuristicRollbackException hre) {
       System.out.println("HeuristicRollbackException " + hre.toString());
    return rules;
}

I think I figured out my own issue. InitialContext is actually wrappering my context. Based on the documentation in http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/javax/naming/InitialContext.html anything before the ":" is the scheme InitialContext's lookup method will use a different context provider based on the scheme and that's why my method was not being executed. Apparently the context provider for the scheme "java" was receiving the method call.

  • Google maps have some kind of Java problem, won't load?

    There is some kind of problem with Google maps suddenly not loading. I tried Google's fixes, but it's still bad. They say Skype figures into it, but I don't have Skype. This problem started on mine suddenly yesterday. I start to type a location in the box, and a little yellow "loading" box appears at the top, and then NOTHING HAPPENS.
    Anybody know about this?
    Thanks...

    Thank you for that input. In my little room here, it's hard to tell which wire or cable is what, even tho I installed this stuff a couple years ago. I have Comcast Broadband, which has been real reliable.
    This problem started just yesterday, and I don't THINK it's what you're idea is. I'll wait a while to see what else might happen on this.
    Thank you.

  • EJB Context lookup fails all of a sudden in OC4J

    I've been working on a J2EE application using JDeveloper
    for some time now and all of a sudden out of nowhere OC4J
    is failing upon doing my EJB lookups. For instance, the following line:
    holderHome = (HolderHome)ctx.lookup("Holder");
    throws this exception:
    javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Holder not found
    Now, I assure you, I have done NOTHING to change how my context is created, in fact I stepped through my code with the debugger and the Context object is successfully created. Also my EJB's haven't been altered or moved and my orion-ejb-jar.jar files are fine. And it happends for all EJB lookups, not just this example. For all purposes, it looks this OC4J just stopped being able to perform it's lookups. Help! This is extremely frustrating as I have no clue on how to fix this or even trace the problem.

    What version of OC4J and JDev are you using ? Is this a > remote OC4J instance or embedded OC4J ?I'm running JDev v9.0.2. I don't know what version of OC4J. Just the embedded one that came with this install.
    Did you change the name of the application or name of
    the EJBs ? Verify with your application entry in
    server.xml ?No and No.
    check the ejb-name in the ejb-jar.xml for your EJB ?Didn't change one bit. I think this is some kind of bug.
    I even tried creating a new project from scratch and recompiling everything and got the same result. It REALLY sucks because I can't go forward until I solve this problem :(

  • We can replace of some kind of databases using Oacle Coherence?

    We can replace of some kind of databases using Oacle Coherence?
    Some kind of database can be replaced by Oracle Coherence using the Serialization Paged Cache as the backing storage for the service and using the Serialization Paged Cache as the backup store on disks.
    Do you agree with me?

    So far basically what I did for the connection was create a constant equal to the name of the database, in the servlet. I will post my Servlet code so far, and I suppose it would help people with either I am going about this all wrong, or on the right track.
    public class SMServ extends javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet{
          private static void initialize()throws SQLException {
          String dataSourceName = Constants.MY_DS;
          try{
          Context wocContext = new InitialContext();
          DataSource ds = (DataSource)wocContext.lookup(dataSourceName);
          Connection conn = null;
          conn = ds.getConnection();
          }catch(NamingException ne){
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res)
              throws ServletException,IOException{
    RequestDispatcher rdSearch =
    getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/RTMain.jsp");
    if (rdSearch != null)
    rdSearch.forward(req,res);
    }The doGet is there, because what is supposed to happen is the Servlet is supposed to be hit first then go to the jsp. My jsp basically just has a button sitting on it, all I am trying to get out of this is, a button click on the jsp will trigger a hardcoded SQL statement to pull data. As most of you can understand, my purpose is to see this relationship working so I can understand it. I am not sure if I am completely right on my DS setup there. The Constants.MY_DS is from another class, that is basicallypublic static final String MY_DS = "name of my database"; Name of the database being the one I have an established connection to in rad.

  • Startup class : Context lookup for a Home fails in a new thread

    Hi All,
    I am having a funny problem with Weblogic Startup class.In the startup method,
    I am creating an instance of InitialContext. I called look up in this context

    I don't have any Role based Security for this bean.

  • How to write context.lookup("jndi name ") and its syntex

    hi
    i m a new one and doing this jms type program for the first time. i copy a source code and paste but at the compilation time there is no error.
    at the run time i get the exception as
    Naming Exceptionjavax.naming.NoInitialContextException: Need to specify class name in environment or system property, or as an applet parameter, or in an application resource file: java.naming.factory.initial
    can anyone help me how to write the code of below statement as i m getting the wrong jndi name
    QueueConnectionFactory queueConnectionFactory =
    (QueueConnectionFactory) context.lookup("QueueConnectionFactory");
    and its configuration style in ejb-jar and jboss.jar.
    getting a reply soon may be my good luck.

    Have a look at:

  • Context.lookup problem

    I have a JavaMail Session with JNDI name: mail/p4fSession' set in the Admin Console of Sun Application Server.
    I am doing a lookup on it with the following code:
    session = (Session) context.lookup("java:comp/env/mail/p4fSession");
    I have also tried      java:/mail/p4fSession
              java:mail/p4fSession
    But I get the following error
    javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: No object bound to name java:/mail/p4fSession
    Can anybody suggest what the context.lookup should be?
    Thanks
    Peter

    If its JNDI name is "mail/p4fSession" then I would use "mail/p4fSession".

  • Very slow MacBook Pro. Probably some kind of virus.

    Hey guys,
    I'm helping a friend of mien to repair her computer. Yesterday she wanted to watch a film online and on one of this sides she even clicked on updating her flash player. Afterwards the Mac didn't work anymore and after a restart continued  very slow and she probably has some kind of virus. Even writing this text takes forever because the computer is so slow.
    I've already done a system check with etrecheck and also tried to find the virus with avira. But this you also see in the report.
    So It would be great if anyone could help us.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
    You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
    In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
    You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
    Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
    ☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
    ☞ Paste into the window of another application.
    ☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
    ☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
    The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
    to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • TopicConnectionFactory - context.lookup returns a different object

    Hi.
    I'm using RefFSContextFactory in my code to retrieve a javax.jms.TopicConnectionFactory object by jndi.
    The code worked fine until suddenly context.lookup starts to get a com.sun.messaging.TopicConnectionFactory.
    I don't know why this behavior.
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Fox

    Hi,
    The code you posted looks good to me.
    Do you have imq.jar in your classpath ? See the section titled 'Setting up Your Environment' in the MQ Developer's Guide for Java Clients:
    [http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-7757/6n9mar6bf?a=view#aeqar]
    This may explain why the object looked up is found, but when the attempt to instantiate it was made (all done from within ctx.lookup()), it failed because the class was not in your CLASSPATH. JNDI lookup code should be generic, but the JMS provider (ie MQ in this case) jars should be in your CLASSPATH. I can't be sure this is exactly your issue but it could very well be.
    How did you store the TopicConnectionFactory at C:/temp ? I assume you used imqobjmgr or imqadmin ? Did that go OK ?
    Lastly, if you downloaded and installed MQ on windows, the javadoc should be in your installation, at mqInstallHome\mq\javadoc, see the section titled 'Installed Directory Structure' in the MQ Installation Guide at:
    [http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-7754/aencp?a=view]

    Recently when opening up Photoshop, my Adobe CS6 Master Collection pops up saying there's some kind of offer going on the Creative Cloud.  For awhile I was just able to close out of it and go about my business on Photoshop, but now it's not allowing me to open Photoshop unless I sign up/pay.  I'm quite confused?  I really NEED to have access to Photoshop ASAP.

    After upgrading to lion, vevo, youtube, and hbo no longer plays videos. I'm assuming this is some kind of plug-in issue. How can I resolve it?

    I want to use my Mac desktop as a portal for viewing my cable television via some kind of cord. Is this possible and what do I need to set this up?

    It can be done with analog but not digital thanks to "good 'ol" HDCP copy protection which apple (and most other manufacturers) unfortunately respect.
    So you can take the analog output from your cable box (component -- 5 cables -- if it has it but generally they all have composite -- 3 cables) and feed it into some kind of converter or into some appropriate pci card for your mac pro.  But none of them are going to let you directly use the HDMI output from the box to your computer.
    Bottom line, no single cord is going to work and it will never be the higher quality digital picture you get on your tv.
    Some qualification:  There are boxes that I think support hdmi input.  Look at Blackmagic.  But I still don't think you can get around the HDCP from the cable box (might depend on the kind of cable box).
