Phantom music playing in the background

I have a MBP that started playing music all of sudden. The song in question was "jump" by Van Halen. The issue was when I would restart and log back into the account, the music would play automatically. I have no clue why this was playing because I have never downloaded the song before. I have tried all the possible solution to stop the music:
Running the Sophos antivirus just to make sure I didn't have a virus
Killed every process running in the background
Ran activity monitor to see if there were new processes, but there weren't
Checked my users folder to see if anything was added but things were normal
Checked "log on items" and that was normal & nothing was marked invisible.
After hours of frustration, I did a hard restart, logged in and the music was gone. My really question is why did this happen. I suspected that maybe a script was running in the background to play this song, but every process was killed and I checked every audio file on the system and "jump" was not there.

~Bee, My very good friend. Good to see you as well.
That's what you get when you stab in the dark—maybe puncture a hot air balloon. (Not my usual habit.)
Warmest regards, JP

  • What is the music playing in the background at WWDC video "Thank you"?

What is the music playing in the background at WWDC video "Thank you"?, which starts with the blind man that used his iPhone to walk independently. (at the end of the video, you can hear the music without speech).

Music in the video was "It's Time" by Imagine Dragons, from the album Night Visions.

  • How do I turn OFF music playing in the background?

I recently put some favorite music selections on my IPod touch (5th gen),  I have had this device for over three quarters of a year, but I use it mostly for email, addresses, and mail, so I haven't explored many of the other things on the IPod.  However, I wanted to use the bluetooth capabilities on the IPod to play on my audio in my new car, but I find now that the music is playing constantly in the background all the time.  I think it's wasting the battery space.  How do I get it to shut off?

Go to the Music app and find the playing song and tap on the pause button. You can also double click on the Home button and swipe the bottom row fully to the right to get to the Music controls. Tap the pause button.
What is happening is that when you go away from the BT on your car the iPod continues to play the music using the speaker which you seem to have set very low in volume.

  • I have unsolicited and unwanted piano music playing in the background. Anyone know what is causing it?!?

It just continues to play the same music... Piano with no vocal.

This is a strange one but let's start with this...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
Any devices that previously appeared in your Printer List and Fax List will need to be added again after resetting the printing system.
Resetting the printing system in Mac OS X 10.5.x
To use the Reset Printing System feature in Mac OS X 10.5.x, follow these steps:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Print & Fax from the View menu.
Control-click on list of printers on the left side of the window, then choose "Reset printing system" from the contextual menu. If you don't see a list of printers, Control-click on the text "Click + to add a printer or fax" and select "Reset printing system..."

  • There is music playing in the background every time I open Firefox. How do I stop the music without turning all sound off?

I don't get this music with any other browser, only Firefox. ITunes is off. I don't see any setting in Preferences that would cause this. . Apple Care tells me that it's a Mozilla Firefox problem.

    Check the home page setting:
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • I have strange music playing in the background whenever I turn on firefox. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and the same thing happens. It is only on one computer that this is happening. Help?

This problem started last night when I was searching for a website that would enable me to watch past TV episodes. I have no idea on what website this occurred. Is there a way to find where the music is coming from so we can turn it off. It is the same four or five bars of music over and over. I called apple, but they punted this to you since it only happens when firefox is open.

I am having a similar problem. Running Xp.
    Latest revision of firefox.
After using firefox for a while if I exit, parent.lock is locked and i have to reboot to reload firefox.
I have killed all firefox applications from task manager (usually there are none). and I have tried 3 different "file unlock" programs including unlocker to no avail.
I also recently installed a program that shows -all- open files, and parent.lock is not listed, and thus not closable/unlockable from there.

  • Applications playing in the background

Does apple allow programs to play in the background? If so .? Pandora?

iPod plays in background. So you can listen to music while surfing the net.

  • IPod function looses place when playing in the background

I have an iPhone 3g and since getting it I've been able to cause the iPod to loose its place if I run an application and let it play in the background. If one song is playing and I start any other application in the phone (even built-in ones like the browser) that doesn't cause the iPod to stop playing music the iPod will keep playing and if I use the browser or other apps long enough for the ipod to move to the next song and I return to the iPod app the time and track information will reflect the time and song that was playing when I started the other app! This is particularly noticeable in long files like audio books where you are listening to chapter 5 when you start the browser and go back to the ipod sometime during chapter 6 and the ipod still shows you at some point in chapter 5. Anyone else noticed this? I've also had it not remove the 'new' (blue dot) from podcasts unless I pause it then resume playing.

I've seen both these issues when listening to podcasts. also, i've noticed that when this issue is occurring, fast forward sounds like it's seeking forward but when you let go of the button it resumes in the exact same spot from where you were before you push fast forward.

  • How do I get rid of (youtube) music playing in the browser?

I played a video on youtube which had accompanying and very annoying sound track. Now, whenever I open Firefox the 'music' plays. If I play another vid, this one still plays in the background.

As far as I know you cannot.
You need to transfer purchase to your computer, thenclick on STORE at the top and then CHECK FOR AVAILABLE DOWNLOADS, let the download complete on your pc, then sync it to you ipod and this I hope will remove it from the download list.

  • Degenerative quality when playing in the background

I like to play itunes in the background while I play games, but for some reason after a while it begins having little chirps and bits of static, eventually it'll reach a point where the music is totally unrecognizable. Only when playing in the background of games though, it'll work fine everywhere else. Any Ideas?

update: it happens outside of games now too. I guess I'll just reinstall and see if that helps

I have Mac mini and I'm trying to listen to music through YouTube it works. But my problem is that instead of the music playing through the tv speakers it plays through the Mac box. ):

Are you using HDMI or an Apple Airplay Module to go to the TV Speakers?
If you are using an HDMI it's straight through output. The internal speakers are disabled.
If you are using an Airplay Module:
    - Go on iTunes
    - Locate the Airplay icon that has a TV with an up arrow icon much like your iPhone has for Bluetooth
    - Click on that and Airplay to ModuleName

  • Audio from flash sources is playing in the background, even though the sources of these have been closed.

Audio from flash sources are still playing in the background after their sources have been closed; audio also starts playing when I start the browser. Closing plugin-container.exe in task manager solves this, but I do not want to do this every time I have audio in the background that should not be there. Not a good move to launch a browser where the kinks haven't been worked out. Have tried to inactivate addons etc. This problem is related to FF5, but have also happened earlier, with FF4. Solved that time by moving to Chrome instead.

    Sounds that the plugin-container process isn't closing properly.<br />
