Phantom Subtitles

Has anyone else encountered this? You try to enter a new subtitle, using all the same techniques that have been working everywhere else, and suddenly instead of a nice bold yellow box in the timeline waiting for text and (if needed) buttons, you get a pale yellow box that is in the wrong place and sometimes overlaps surrounding subtitles. 'Apple Z' and 'delete' don't help, the only way to get rid of it is to wipe the subtitle track in the timeline and even then it is like getting gum off your shoe. When the machine is in this frame of mind the "Insert Subtitle at Playhead" function is disabled.
I THINK that this is the roadblock that is causing my "Internal Muxing Error" (see thread "Come back Win98-all is forgiven") and things are getting VERY DESPERATE INDEED SO PLEASE HELP!

muxing errors I believe have to do with an error in the track and GOP. GOPs don't care about audio track. They can be in sync or not or no audio. So the first thing I do when placing video clips in a track is making sure each clip end on a GOP boundary. I knew all the markers were correct. but that is what threw me off.
the way I figured this out was taking my original project and saving as another project, then stripping down it down to just the track because GOPs are in video clips. After numerous builds, building after placing each video clip, I found that the error was between two clips, 5 and 6, in this case.
I zoomed in all the way between these two and used the arrow and the option key to go back and forth in GOP increments. First I placed the playhead exactly between be using the up and down keys. Then using the option key, I went backward. Then I went forward (or tried to go forward again with the option key). But it wouldn't go anywhere. So I went to the inspector with the clip selected and clicked on downward arrow key and it took out several frames up to the current point of the playhead which was at this GOP boundary. the next clip (6) took up the space between the two.
I had a successful build afterwards
I didn't try cutting the beginning of clip 6 because I well the beginning is where they start building the GOPs.
So from now on I'm going to do a build immediately after adding all clips to the track before going on.
I don't think the program will allow placing clips out of bounds I tried and the program beeped and the marker was not placed.

Well maybe not quite, but this program is getting to be pretty irritating!
I have made a discovery for all those suffering the "42% encoded" bar sitting for 24hours or more: watch the Activity Monitor and if it drops off precipitously from 90%+ to under 10% CPU activity for DVDSP then you ain't going nowhere. Cancel and start over. The problem for me is that using this technique I thought that I had isolated a rogue element or two (I went through a copy of my project deleting everything but one track, running a build on it, and so on until I found a track with this minimal CPU use thing). I then tried to build the whole project minus that rogue track, and then..... woke up to an internal muxing error! Now the DVDSP_Encoder is hanging as well.
This is a huge project with many tracks that combine video (encoded with compressor) and slides. A lot of button over video menus, and several interlinked stories- in other words I do not take kindly to the idea of starting over in FCP. Any suggestions are gratefully received however.

OK yes you are right Perry: it is having to encode the slide transitions, and deal with subtitles and the 'buttons over video' menus. The most recent shot at it did fine for a large portion of the project, then ran into an "Internal Muxing Error" which appears to have occurred when it started 'preparing subtitles'. I am double checking the subtitles and have found that one of them (which yes I should have fixed before I started the encode) has a sort of "phantom" subtitle which I hope that someone can explain:
I try to enter a subtitle and a yellow block appears that is not formattable. You can erase it by dragging over it, but I can't install a usable subtitle, nor really get rid of the phantom one.
My static menus were all done in Photoshop, I have no motion menus, but I do have a lot of button over video menus, as well as a lot of slideshows with dissolve transitions.
The 42% encode thing seems to be a more common problem for people, so I want people to know that you can anticipate this hang up by watching the activity montor rather than wasting 24hours while your computer does nothing.

Subtitles in Apple DVD player won't go away

This is not a Tiger problem per se- more of an Apple DVD player problem. I couldn't find a forum for the DVD app. If I'm in the wrong place, I'd be happy to post in the proper place if someone could point me in the right direction.
So I'm running os 10.4.7 on an 800 mhz iMac (flatscreen, "lamp" model), my version of the Apple DVD player is 4.6.5, framework version 4.6.6.
Here's the problem- whenever I watch a movie (this seems to happen only with American DVDs), these QT/OS X looking (beautiful crisp white letters on a highly transparent smokey grey field) subtitles appear, they are independent of the subtitles invoked by the subtitle button in the player- I can toggle through all the languages, they work fine, but the QT/OS X looking subtitles never go away- I'll have two sets running simultaneously. (Or just the QT/OSX one, when I set subtitles to "off")
While they are gorgeous and superior to the "other" set of subtitles (which I CAN control), in both visual appeal and intelligent placement, I would like to be able to turn them off.
I thought a handicap access feature in the System Preferences might have been involved, but it doesn't seem so.
Can someone help me turn this off? Incidentally, these phantom permanent subtitles weren't always here, though I can't really say when they appeared.

Do you have "Closed Captioning" (DVD Player "Controls" menu) turned on? You may have turned it on accidentally via Option-Cmd-T.

Error in creation of Phantom item bill

I have checked all three possibilities. Item is not Engineering item and already assigned to Org. Also the BOM doesnot exist. Kindly note that I donot have any issue in creating bill of a standard item. We are using phantom item for the first time so tell me if phantom item need some special setup or some profile option to be active etc? I am using below attributes in inventory. PP - Explosão de BOM Phantom em Ordem Planejada

Olá pessoal!
Tenho um cenário onde dentro do meu Produto Acabado, tenho vários componentes organizados em Grupo de Alternates, e para cada grupo, defino um componente como Principal ( 100% de utilização ) e os outros como Opcionais ( 0% de utilização ). Entre esses componentes existem alguns que são configurados como Phantom ( Special Procurement 50 ), e esses itens Phantom, quando são Opcionais na BOM, ou seja, 0% de Probabilidade de Uso em Alternate Item Group, ele não é carregado na lista de componentes da Ordem Planejada. Apenas o Phantom que está como Principal aparece na Ordem Planejada, juntamente com seus subcomponentes.
Os demais componentes que não são Phantom, aparecem normalmente dentro da Ordem Planejada, tanto os que tem 100% de utilização, quanto os que tem 0% definido na BOM. Obviamente, toda a necessidade é apontada no item Principal, mas eu posso modificar de acordo com a disponibilidade do material.
Quando a Ordem de Produção é criada diretamente pela CO01, sem conversão de Ordem Planejada, a lista de componentes traz todos os Phantoms normalmente, independente do percentual de utilização.
Alguém sabe me dizer se existe algum tipo de configuração para permitir que os Phantoms Opcionais, também sejam carregados para lista de componentes das Ordens Planejadas sem precisar alterar o percentual de utilização na BOM?

Subtitles are not getting displayed while playing movies

Hi,
Recently I have upgraded with Max OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. After this upgrade whenever I play movies in my VLC player, I am getting a message as "freetype: failed to load font file /System/Library/Fonts/LucidaGrande.dfont" and then the subtitles are not displayed.
Can someone advise how to resolve it? I tried to download LucidaGrande.dfont from internet. But I couldnt find one. Please help.

Hello, Ravi & welcome to the forums.
Lucida Grande is included with Mac OS X.
Check and validate all of your fonts with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Search for Lucida Grande to be sure it was properly installed. Find and remove duplicates as well.
Also, don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
Finally, be sure all the apps you are using are compatible with SnowLeopard. Check with their authors for updates.

My iPad is double downloading iTunes TV series shows and when I delete, the extra show does not delete from the available memory. I have lost almost 30GB of my 64 to this phantom shows.

I am losing available memory on my iPad (64 GB 3rd gen) and it appears to lose memory because some TV shows that I have downloaded from iTunes are appearing twice in my downloads. Both download, but when Only appear as 1 show on my "videos". After viewing the show, I delete, but the duplicate show appears to be still there somewhere (not visible anywhere) taking up the same amount of memory that showed before downloading. It reduces my available memory to download other shows. The general settings do not show any of these phantom shows taking any memory, but the total available is much, much less than what is showing for all usage such as music, videos, photos, apps, etc
Is it possible to delete a show from the download portion of iTunes if you have already seen a show and do not want to waste time or memory downloading again? The only way that I know is to let it download completely and the delete from "Videos".

I came up one issue on ASCP, consider following BOM. Assume that all below items are MRP planned , all items supply qty is zero,
FG ( finished good, WIP supply type - Push)
|-> PH ( Phantom, WIP Supply type - Phantom)
|-> P (Purchase item, WIP Supply type - Push)
Now I have entered forecast against FG. After running data collection and plan, I can see forecast for FG. It is suggesting work order for FG but not suggesting purchase order for P part. While going in detail, I found that BOM data is successfully imported from source instance by data collection. But in plan, I can not see any child part for FG.. either PH or P. And this will be reason of not creating planned order for P. So can you please help me to find out reason behind this behavior.

Check the value for profile option MRP: Explode Demand Through Phantom Component. It should be set to yes for planning to recognize the requirements for the components below the phantom.

I am trying to import subtitles to Adobe Encore but am getting error messages...

I am trying to import subtitles from a software called Aegisub to Adobe Encore, but i am receiving this error message:
The software that is used to decode the media is not available on this system. Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem.
I have exported the subtitles as an Encore text file but it still won't allow me attach these to my video. I have exported the video from Premiere as an H.264 and that slots into Encore just fine, i just need to use Encore to attach the subtitles.
Can anyone tell me what i might be doing wrong?

Thanks Stan. I think this is probably the answer but seeing as i am doing this at work, it is telling me the action was stopped because it needs to be checked by an administrator.
If i manage to succeed, i shall let you know. I was trying to import as an asset, wrongly, so this is probably going to be the solution.

Multi Level Phantoms

Looking for guidance / lessons learned on phantoms. I have several assemblies that use multi level phantoms assemblies and the problem I am encountering is when the the BOMs all get pushed up to the top level, the shop order cannot be cut due to duplicates.
A very basic example is I have screw that goes into a plate. The plate is a phantom and used on two different sub assemblies. These sub assemblies are phantoms and report to the same top level assembly that I am building. When I attempt to cut a shop order, the screw that was all the way at the bottom appears twice on the top level BOM when the two phantom BOMs are pushed up and causes an errorpreventing me from moving forward.
I currently set my special procurement type 50 in MM03. I have heard that I could set it up on the individual BOMs, however I do not see this fixing the problem as the material and item number of the duplicate will remain the same regardless of how it was set up.
Any advice or inputs? Please let me know if you need more detail.

The movie itself has subtitles in it. You won't be able to disable them. They're basically hard coded into the movie.

I have purchased many movies on iTunes, now they are adding closed captioning or subtitles to those movies, BUT can not reload them so I can view those subtitles. I am mentally disabled and need the subtitles.

Hello, To start off, I have been a member of iTunes for awhile and have been content with them, until now. I am legally disabled due to a head injury that happened when I was a teenager. I am everyday functional, but I do need closed captioning(cc) or subtitles to understand the movie or TV show. I have purchased lots of movies and TV shows from iTunes. As any new business does, iTunes has updated itself and added features for their customers. They figure out what the consumers want and like. I started to realize that iTunes added subtitles for the deaf and disabled, but as I was told by Apple there was nothing I could do about reloading those already purchased movies, to include the cc or subtitles. Since then, I don't use iTunes and it's a real shame because I love electronics and it's technology. I wish Apple would work with the consumer. Why can't I reload the iTunes movies on my PC (Win7) with the subtitles, which they now offer, but didn't when I purchased them? To me, that is wrong to do that to a customer. Now that they are including cc/subtitles , everyone is able to enjoy iTunes and not be excluded. Someone__please explain this to me. Thank you for reading this.

Untill the movie studios agree to allow past downloads of movies outside of the US, you aill always have to have a copy of purchased movies on your computer. If not, you will have to buy them again if you delete them.

How can I export speech analysis text with imbedded timecodes for the creation of subtitle files?

I found a script that allows you to export all your text layers with time codes as a .srt subtitle file. However, instead of multiple text layers, I have only one: essentially the meta data from Premiere speech analysis that with the aid of a different script, is being used at a "subtitle layer". Essentially, I'm trying to use this data to create a .srt file so I can create actual subtitles, not this hybrid animation/text layer.
Here is the script I used to export the text layer to .srt:

As I am only using one text layer, it shows me only one continious subtitle in the .srt file. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I should add that I myself am not particularly familiar with scripts or scripting, I'm merely trying all possible solutions to my problem and this seems to be a good approach. Any help would be much appreciated.

How to load external subtitles in mov files (in QT)?

When I play an avi file, QT is able to load external subtitles (I've Perian installed). However, this week, I downloaded a file from apple, saved it as a mov file and created a subtitle file for it. Then, I put both files in the same directory and used the same name for them (one .mov and the other .srt). When I play it (with QT), the subtitle file doesn't load. Does anybody know what is happening? Is is a problem with mov files? Or is it a problem with files downloaded from apple (some kind of lock?!)?

Different subtitles in one clip

I'm trying to add subtitles to a movie in iMovie9. I found the text-tool to do it, but I fail to break the subtitles into segments so that they change every 10 secs or so. Can anyone help?

I would recommend breaking your video clip into segments that last as long as you want the subtitle to run.
To do this, select the 10 seconds (or so) of the clip in your project (so that the yellow border is around the selection) and right-click/Split Clip. Repeat for all the clips you need. Then add the titles to these clips.
