Pharmaceutical Industry Process KPI's

Hi,
As a part of my work, I am conducting research on Pharma Industry processes with a view to align IT(ERP) with business.
In this regard, it would be great if some one could lead me to find good overview of the Pharma processes (such as Clinical Trial management, Compliance management), their work flow diagrams and their associated KPI's.
Thank You!
LK

Hi, LK.
Speaking of KPIs in practice for pharmaceutical industry, [www.*************|www.*************] may be a good resource for you. It's a catalogue of performance reports that illustrate the use of KPIs.
Examples of such reports for information security are available on: [KPIs in practice - healthcare|http://www.*************/kpi_examples_in_practice/industries/healthcare/]
They include examples from:
Teva Pharmaceutical
Johnson & Johnson
In addition to examples of performance measures, [www.*************|www.*************] also contains a user friendly library of well-documented performance measures.  At the moment it lists over 3200 KPI examples, grouped in 73 functional areas, as well as 83 industries and sub-categories.
KPI examples for Pharmaceutical industry are available on this page:  [KPI examples - Healthcare|http://www.*************/kpi/industries/healthcare/]
The website is updated daily with new content, so check it from time to time for additional content.
Please note that while examples of performance measures are useful to inform decisions, each performance measure needs to be selected and customized based on the objectives and priorities of each organisation.
Best regards,
Anita Liang

  • Not using Backflush in Industry Process

    Hi all,
First of all, I'm using Industry Process.
I wouldn't like to work with Backflush to make the material movements manually later, but I don't get it.
    Master Data's:
Material master data: Backflush: "2 - Work Center decides"
Work Center (Resource), the Backflush is not marked
In the Process Order, in the BOM, the flag is not market too
The only strange thing I realised is in the Recipe, the material IS NOT assigned to any operation/phase. But, when I did the Process Order, the systems did an assignment automatically to the first operation. Is when I confirm that operation when the system did automatically the movement.
Anybody knows why is this assignament done? In a process order, the materials have to been allways assigned?
    Thank's in advance!!
    Roger

    Hi,
If the Components are not assigned to any operation in the Recipe, then by default all the coponents will be assigned to the First operation in the Process Order.
If you assign your components to diffrenent operations then only they will be allocated in th Process Order.
    This is the Standard behavior.
If your componants are Backflushed automatically evnthough there is no Backflush indicator is maintained in the Material Master..
Then Check the settings in OPK4 (for your Plant and order Type combination)
All Components must have Ticked in the "Generally Valid Settings" Tab page.
    Hope this clarifies...
    Revert for further discussion.

  • Difference Between Production Industry & Process Industry

    Hi Freinds,
Hi have a query. What is the major difference between Production Industry & Process Industry?
I will give you a following example. Please carefully read it.
Take a example of TATA Motors. We all know it produces automobiles. So we will consider it as a Production Industry. But at the same time it uses the Paint to paint the vehicles is produced by it only. So can we call it as a Process Industry? If yes please explain it.
I will award deserving points accordingly for every reply.
    Thanks & Regards
    Saeed Arif

production:- conversion / processing the raw materials to finished products.
    differen type of industry:
job type of industry:- this is of mainly MAKE TO ORDER TYPE , suiting the particular customer requirments , after getting the order only you start doing the production
eg:- Turbine mfg by BHEL, Aircrafts and ship buildings etc.
so here your planning and costs change one order.
Repetative mfg or Batch tpe production: here the products wll be made in batches as lots eg 2000no or 5000nos qty as batches ,
here the planning and costing etc will differ from one batches to another.
eg: Automobile , apperal industry. this can be produced by strategies MAKE TO STOCK or by MAKE TO ORDER,
PROCESS INDUSTRY OR CONTINOUS TYPE OF PRODUCTIONS:
in this type of industry the Process remains same (constant) and procucts may with slight variation in composition,  in this type of industy almost every thing is mechanised . this type of indstry will have LINE LAY OUT/PRODUCT LAYOUT
ie at one entry all the materials go in one line and processed and at the end of the line you will be getting finished products. the complete line will be controlled by automated sensors by using sopostigated sensors. the only problem here is that in LINE  if one macine /station is have break down the complete production will comes to halt as one machine/station output is going to be input for oher staion/machine.
eg: cement, paints , food and beverages etc.
you can seggregate indstry type by materials or by the type of layout(ie mfg line)
so now coming to your doubt : TATA - AUTOMOBILES following hybrid type of laty out  ie mfg of automobiles is functional  layout , where there is flexibilty of planning , from paint sections on wards it follows line layout  ..
so you have to call it is as product industry , intern which have line layout for cetain operations , which pertains  to  process industry...

  • Automobile industry process in SD

    Hi All,
I am being shifted from telecom project to automobile industry project. The lead asked me to go through and learn the process in automobile industry. If anyone have worked on the same, let me know the different terms and process they use. What are the basic things i should be aware of? Please throw me some light on the same, it will be very helpful.
    Thanks all in advance.
    Regards
    Thenmozhi

You are asking with some simple terminology to provide a detailed explanation.
As you should be aware automobile industry includes car manufacturer and component manufacturers as well and for each of these industry, configuration would differ.
From birds eye view, for car manufacturers, it would be MTO process and for component manufacturers, it would be MTS

    hi friends,
i have a interview tomorrow  for a automobile client, what are  the automobile industry specific processes. something that is different in automotive  industry as compared to other industries.
    please help
    sk

    hi
Along with IS AUTOMOTIVE we activate VMS (Vehical Managment System) and also the biggest part of Is Automotive is DBM (Delear Business Managment)
There are about 17 STD scenarios in Automobile Industry which differes for OEM's, Service and Sales and Suppliers. The diff processes are
    Appointment Scheduling and Workshop Planning
    Parts Purchasing
    Parts Stock Transferring
    External Service Procurement
    Customer Management
    Used-Vehicle Purchasing
New Vehicle Sales with Down Payment
New Vehicle Sales with Cross Plant Stock Transfer
New Vehicle Sales with Cross Company Stock Transfer
    New Vehicle Sales from Showroom
    Vehicle Service and Recalls
    Parts Cash Sales and Returns
Order Cancellation with Fast Order Entry
    Customer Management
    Vehicle Sales and Administration
    Vehicle Service
    Parts Management
Along with IS Automotive there is SAP IS Automotive DBM (Delear Business managment)
Not aware what is exctly your client process but as being in IS Automotive the most Important part is Service Managment, Warranty Claims
If your client is also in to vehical Leasioning then it may come to Leasining,Contracts, Mileage, Time Managment for service

  • QM/MM - STOCK TYPE PROBLEM - Pharmaceutical Industry

In January 2005 we changed the material master 220072 to deactivate inspection set up for inspection type 01-05-08 and to change the QM control Key from Z0002 to 0001.
The characteristic BC_USAGE_USAGE_DECISION of the relevant material batch class (ZBC_220072) has been updated accordingly to RELEASED.
This workaround allows inbounding the material directly into unrestricted.
Since the Scheduling Agreement/purchase master data wasn't updated, the stock of the first inbound after this change just received was posted in S (blocked stock).
WM operator did the reverse of good issue.
Purchasing data maintainer updated the  QM Control KEY to 0001. (Purchase Document IP00000012).
WM operator inbound the batch again but the batch has been posted in S too.
Scheduling Agreement was created on 30-Jul-2003; with relevant line item added on 25-Aug-2003 - it looks as though it is not reading the updated material master data.
Is there a solution?  Which data must be changed to resolve the problem?

Question not answered; workaround accepted by business.

The help is wrong. When you request a number from Next number, it returns the Current Sequence. It then adds the value of the Increment By to that number and stores it back to the Current Sequence, ready for the next request.

  • High level process model for a Pulp & Paper Industry

    Hi:
Someone can help me?, i'm looking for a organizational reference model for a pulp & paper company, under the alignment for best practices in to SAP R/3
I need know what is the best model for this kind company (chain value, macro process, business process, sub process...)
    Thanks in advance
    Omar Perea

    hi,
    thanks for yor points.
at that time it was opened.for me also it was warning  the same, any way iam providing some more info on it. pls have a look on it.
Pulp and paper industry facing IT modernisation needs
Today most pulp and paper industry companies face serious financial challenges to increase return on investment and improve capital utilisation.
Companies are working to improve the efficiency of their supply chains and thereby reduce working capital, increase transaction velocity and improve inventory turnover. Mergers, acquisitions and alliances are reshaping the pulp and paper industry. Although the pulp and paper industry has invested heavily in IT systems, a large variety of old systems is often complex, inflexible in regard to integration and difficult to operate. As they reflect past organisations and business models, the streamlining of business processes is difficult.
Mega trends in the pulp and paper industry IT.
The pulp and paper industry is stepping into a new phase of business evolution driven by consolidation of industry, globalisation and ever-increasing competition. These market drivers are forcing the pulp and paper industry to put a greater focus on cost efficiency. These focuses are creating totally new challenges for the organisation, specifically in the IT area.
IT is increasingly becoming a commodity. This is a result of product standardisation and the popularity of off-the-shelf-products that facilitate the economies of scale. This phenomenon is also supported by increasing utilisation of competence resources in low-cost countries.
Managing change becomes more and more difficult. Very often companies face the need for new changes before they have seen the benefits of the previous ones. The cycle of change is short and the transformation environment becomes very complicated. On the other hand, IT becomes the tool in forcing business changes to happen. Often the only practical way to roll out new processes and practices is through the modernisation of information systems.
Like many other industries, the pulp and paper industry is concentrating on providing digitalised self-services as part of their business development.
    Industry background
Since the consolidation and globalisation of the pulp and paper industry, there has been increasing pressure to continuously improve both its internal and external efficiency. In the large pulp and paper mills, production management systems typically consist of several different systems, which might also be from different suppliers. Systems are often isolated islands, which are successful in managing information of their own area but they lack the comprehensive information exploiting and sharing. This has resulted in a complex and inflexible architecture of legacy systems. These legacy systems are expensive to manage and difficult to develop to meet business requirements.
This pressure has led to massive IT investments and a continuous rebuild of the IT environments in order to meet efficiency challenges. Although many pulp and paper mills have invested a lot in building up their business supporting IT, especially Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, the return on investment is often difficult to measure. There is a lot of potential to improve usability of systems by harmonising business processes and integrating the systems more efficiently in order to better support actual business needs.
Most pulp and paper industry companies have thus come to a point where a more radical rebuild and renewal of the entire IT and network environment is required. Fortunately, the conditions for this have improved over the last few years, due largely to an increasing range of commercially available application platforms adopted for the pulp and paper industry, the acceptance of common industry standards, and the evolution of refined integration and migration methods.
Renewing and harmonising the company’s operations and IT systems is still, however, a demanding undertaking. Securing continuous operations, while at the same time replacing the core systems and processes, requires a high level of expertise in pulp and paper industry processes and information technology. To complement the in-house competence, the pulp and paper industry will need to establish partnerships with outside solution providers and system integrators. To minimise risks and keep control of business-critical technology, new delivery models will be a necessity.
