Phase LEDs won't go to max anymore

I used to have the phase LEDs vary from 1 (if idling in windows) to 5 (if I had all 8 cores working hard - using BOINC for example).  I had a problem with my Radeon graphics card (a very fast one) so removed it and put in an older geforce. This was very sluggish when all cores were busy and 3 phase LEDs were lit always whether it was processing or not.  So I removed the card and got the fast radeon working again, but I'm still stuck with 3 (although occasionally 4 now) phase LEDs.  I note the old geforce didn't have a PCI express power connector.  It couldn't have overloaded the pci express slot could it?  Damaged the phase controller?  I do get 5 LEDs when the PC is switched on before the OS loads.

I've made the changes in the BIOS, and removed 3 memory sticks, and hey presto the phase lights behave correctly and windows is much more responsive!
A good start.

Why is it now not liking my faster settings?
Looking at your SPD profile, you will see that these are overclocked and overvolted 1333 chips ( 667 in the Max Bandwidth specs). The worst part is that they expect 1,9V to actually operate at 1600. This is way beyond the normal operating specs. All DDR3 boards are built to JEDEC standards which specifies 1,5V. Overclocked mem modules on most Intel boards can accommodate up to 1,65V. Thus if these modules actually applied 1,9V in the BIOS you ran the risk of damaging your CPU's integrated memory controller. Lets assume that did not happen, but it is not inconceivable.

The faster settings were not actually made by me anyway!  They are the BIOS defaults!!!!  I had to manually slow it down to change to what you suggested.
We don't know if you enabled XMP or not. If you did, it probably applied the XMP profile. Applied DRAM voltage remains a mystery for now.
If your PC behaves normal at the 1066 settings, then add the other 3 modules and retest. You should even be able to run at 1333 8.8.8.23 according to the SPD, but once you decide to go there, first set the timings to 9.9.9.24 for a start and testing, before applying tighter timings.
A stable system at 1066/1333 is the main concern for now.
If ever you want to OC your RAM get other modules that can do it at 1,5V or max 1,65V.

Why won't my g4 desktop come on. I was trying to boot in safe mode and it would not go in safe mode. It won't come back on anymore. Can some tell me what to do.

Try Single User mode (Command+S while starting up).
    Then, run fsck.
    At the command-line prompt type:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
** The volume (name_of_volume) appears to be OKIf fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****
Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
When fsck reports that your volume is OK, typerebootat the prompt and then press Return.
Your computer should start up normally and allow you to log in.

I just reinstalled my system and noticed that GIMP won't open PDF files anymore. I remember being able to use GIMP to open PDFs and save them as high resolution images.... Am I missing something?

Make sure you have poppler-glib installed.
If you have imagemagick installed you might also want to try "convert my.pdf my.jpg". It will be done before gimp opens.

  • IPhone won't auto launch iTunes anymore

I just updated to Lion and the new version of iTunes. When I plug in my iPhone, however, iTunes won't launch and autosync anymore. I checked the settings and, based on my preference settings, it should autolaunch. I tried to click and unclick on the setting, restart the computer, etc., but nothing will get iTunes to launch when I plug in my phone. If I launch iTunes manually, it will immediately begin syncing however. Any thoughts how I can go back to the old way?

Same issue here. iTunes 10.4 doesn't seem to automatically install the iTunes Helper in your user login items.
    Here's what I did:
    Navigate to the Applications folder
Right Click on iTunes and select Show Package Contents
    Navigate to Contents/MacOS/
Double-click on iTunes Helper to get it running. This will allow iTunes to start when you plug in your iPhone/iPod
Open System Preferences and go to Users & Groups
Select the Login Items tab to view the list
Drag iTunes Helper from the Finder into the Login Items to get it to run at login

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

Batteries eventually fail, and it sounds like that's happened with your iPad. You'll need to take or send it Apple to get the battery replaced. See:

  • X58 Pro Phase LED Question

    Hey all,
I had a question about the CPU Phase LED's that I was hoping someone would be able to answer. As the subject line states, I have the MSI X58 Pro motherboard. The i7 920 is OC'd to 3.96ghz with the usual throttling features disabled in the BIOS. My question relates to the CPU Phase LED's. They were previously all on, no automatic phase switching but I just recently noticed that the left-most (2) LED's are flashing?!?! According to the manual, those are for "Phase 2 Power Mode". The other 3 LED's are lit continuously. What gives? What is that telling me? I thought that I had disabled throttling so they should be on all the time, right? Anybody know why? Thanks for any assistance!

mine's all lit, running at stock speeds... don't have any idea what this "phasing" all about. <a href="http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&lpver=3&ref=11" target="_blank"><img src="http://content.sweetim.com/sim/cpie/emoticons/0002041D.gif" border="0" title="Click to get more." >[/url]

I go to click on the buy button and then it half disappears and won't let me download anymore. How do I fix that?

If you have a 1G iPod or iOS 3.x that seems to be a problem that Apple created when they updated their website. No know solution yet except to download on your computer and sync.

  • P55-GD65 Power Phase LED Question

I had a question regarding both the power phase LEDs and the actual power phases themselves.
I noticed that the power phase LEDs light up and change according to the currently active power phase for the CPU based upon load using stock settings.
However, when I applied a mild overclock, increase the bclk from 133 to 160, the power phase LEDs stopped changing. They are all lit all the time. Does this mean the power phase is not changing, so I am losing the power savings benefit? Or is the power phase still dynamic, it just stops registering and reporting with the LEDs?
With the mild overclock applied and all power phase LEDs lit up, in BIOS under the green powere menu, I can see the efficiency number fluctuating, which makes me think the dynamic power phase is still in effect.
Does anyone have any insight into this?
    Thanks,

The interesting thing I noticed, is that apparently APS worked with overclocking enabled in older BIOS versions. I am running BIOS v1.5, I know current is v1.8. Can anyone confirm whether or not APS is enabled with overclocking in BIOS v1.8?
I do not have MSI Control Center installed, but I will do that as soon as I can to see if I can re-enable the LEDs and check if APS is working or not.
If APS is working just fine and it is only the LED display that is broken, I have no problem with that. I actually would like the LEDs turned off, but I want to confirm that APS is working before I do.

  • Big Bang XPower CPU phase Led is constantly moving

Hi, I just put my box together today and I noticed the CPU phase led array is constantly moving. Is this normal behavior?  The pc is essentially just idling. Thank you in advance for your help!

Under light/medium loads a few of them will cycle on and off as power requirements vary depending on the CPU load, under a heavy CPU load I'm sure you will see that all of them will light up.

  • MSI Z77A GD65 - CPU Phase LED Solid State when OC / Hard to boot up

    Problems:
    1. All settings are at stock and I having the difficulties to boot up. When I press the power button, all my fans light and CPU phase LED lights on and off.No more booting. Need to press several times on the power switch then it only will boot up.
    2. Whenever I tried to OC by changing the Vcore from auto to manual, all the CPU phase led will in solid mode. No more blinking. When I set the Vcore back to auto, it starts to blink.
    Approach taken:
    1. Have tried to disable EUP setting on bios. Results still the same.
    2. Have tried to disable all the power saving settings ,results still the same. CPU phase LED keep in solid mode.
    3. have tried to clear CMOS several times but still facing boot up difficulties.
In addition, previously when I am using the same hardware with another brand,it boots up normally. No issue.
To add, I am using Vantec Ion 750W plus modular PSU.
    tq

If it wasn't such a mission to remove that monster cooler of yours, I would recommend you remove the CPU for a proper socket pin inspection. You may just have to do that as a bent pin or two can cause such anomalies.
I would also test with another known working PSU.
Beta BIOS versions are available here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158257.0  and I have been using the .A67 with no apparant problems. works great.
Always use the forum flasher .  see here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119375.0
