Phaser 8860 and Dell Laser 5330dn

I am unable to see the printers (just got the Dell - my institution got them with a package deal) on the Bonjour using 10.6. I called Dell to help for on the machines that are running 10.5.x, because the machines were seeing two names on the Bonjour (the serial with the name like Dell5330dn(xxxxxx) and the one I set (Dell5330dn(RM*)) for the same printer. Dell immediately said they do not support Macs and that I would have to get to Apple for the support. They do not understand that this is also seen on the PC if they were using Bonjour as well. Well, any ways that was a lost cause so I hope to have help here.
The funny this is that on 10.6.1, I was able to see the HPs but not the Xerox and the Dell unlike on the 10.5.x machines where I just not only see the names I called it but it's original in the Bonjour set.
So, what I did is added through the IP through Internet Printing Protocal (IPP). It found the printers - insure they were valid - but they did not set the proper drivers (it choose Generic) so I change it for the Xerox but left the Dell alone with the Generic. I added them and try to print.
First, it took forever (well a minute but that is still long) to get to the print screen. I first select the Xerox and it took a long time before the software paused the printer. I then tried to print to the Dell and it did the same thing. Also, now this is a little weird, I try to print to one and then as soon as I can print to the other at the same time. It would immediately pause the first printer as soon the other is selected where eventually it also paused.
I am at my wits end and I may have to consider other options. I still do not under stand why they did away with Appletalk. It should have stilled been able to be modified for the unix system where we can see the list of printers on the default off the bat. That was the beauty of the Mac OS system. I guess it goes by the motto if it works successfully for so long lets not use it. I had just got these printers in and I do not want to go back like I did when 10.0 came out and have to buy nothing but new systems, that is just not cost effective. I may have to wait or see if I can knock the system to 10.5.x. By the way, is that possible for the newest machines?
So, does anyone else have a fix for this? And yes, I did use the newest download from the Xerox site for the driver (even through the software was unable to see the printer) and installed it so I can select it with I did the IPP in the Add Printer menu.

Well, I found a fix for the IPP pause. I needed to put a fixed (static/manual) IP on the printer itself. It cannot stand it if it's DHCP. I guess when I used the host name of the printer to be found and validated, it made the printing a little flaky when searching for the printer name - still do not understand this since it found it before when adding the printer.
So, this time when going through adding the printers again, I put the IP (set to static through the browser onto the printer or through the printer's menu if possible and gave it an IP) of the printer in the Address and waited to be valid, then gave it a name in the Name section for it and selected the driver. This is through the IPP of the IP menu in the Add Printer of the system prefs.
The drivers used for the Dells is the Samsung CLP 700, Xerox gets the Xerox driver for it, and HP 4240 I used their driver for it as well. All of them are working (cross my fingers) with no pausing and successful printing for the past two days.
Now, I have to go and fix the 10.5 problem of them being on all of the list of Bonjour. Reason, is that some of the machines are still PPC and not intel. I just may have to try in turning off the "Bonjour" and then add the IP instead if that is the way to do it since this is going to be the way for 10.6

  • Dell laser 5100cn and a dell laser M5200.

    Okay the two printers are a dell laser 5100cn and a dell laser M5200.
    The emacs that im trieing to comunicate with a Dell laser M5200 are running 10.3.9 and the printer is using a static IP. In the print q I keep getting an error message that says network host is busy.
    The emacs that are taking 40 minutes to print when printing from a photo editing aplication are running 10.4.8 and the dell 5100cn there also has a static IP

    The Foomatic-RIP is not a driver per se. It is typically used along with ESP Ghostscript and a third party driver. I know of no specific Mac OS X or *nix for Dell printers. That does not mean they cannot be made to work.
    The main obstacle in getting rebadged printers to work is finding out what printer language they use. Knowing the comparable make and model to the Dell printer is an ideal situation. That hardly ever happens however.
    I have posted a response in a similar thread that details how you can find out the printer language(s) your printer understands. This only works with USB printers, however. You can view my post here.
    If you can post back the results from the Terminal command in that post, we can hopefully find a driver that will work for your printer.

  • Xerox Phaser 8860 on Network-How to turn off popup print job confirmations?

    I recently upgraded to OS 10.6.4 and as expected I needed to reinstall the drivers for a few peripherals. One of which was the Xerox Phaser 8860 which is on the network. Everything works, but now after each print job prints out a window pops up in the center of the screen notifying me that ::Job### has printed on Xerox Phaser 8860::. It causes no serious problems, but it does knock me out of what ever program I am using. Which can get extremely annoying when I'm drawing and I repeatedly get halted mid (pen/brush) stroke. It stays up on the screen for about a minute and a few times it has remained up. There is an option to close, it simply gets really annoying after the 30th time. Common sense would suggest to not draw while a file is on it's way to the printer, but my work day is a constant flow of drawing, printing, color tests and editing. It's not practical or good for deadlines to stop drawing to wait for a print job to come out and the pop up window to go away.
    I tested printing from the other computers, which are PC's using various versions of windows and they all come up with the same pop up window (though theirs come up at the bottom right of the screen). They do not receive confirmation windows from the other printers not on the network.
    This suggested to me that this was a setting with the Xerox software. However, I spoke to the technical support for Xerox and they said that the pop up window had nothing to do with their software and claim that it had to be generated by the Mac OS 10.6.4.
    I am regularly printing from the following programs:
    Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Word, and Excel. The pop out window has acquired while printing files from all of these programs. I doubt that has any relation but I thought I'd add it, just in case.
    I would very much like to know how to turn this confirmation notification off in OS 10.6.4. Or if anyone has an thoughts on what software could be the culprit.

    In CWIS go to Properties > General > Printer Defaults and disable the Startup page  As for garbage prints, That sounds like a PS error. And they are almost always due to improperly embedded fonts. Have all your users switch the following in their drivers (Picture is the global driver, but the regular driver will have the same option.) Essentially by default the printer uses its own locally stored fonts on the jobs, but when the fonts are misunderstood, or unknown it winds up printing wingdings.

    Thanks for your reply.
    I should have mentioned I am using Windows XP.
    No, there are no eps graphics in the document.
    Photoshop CS5 prints with no problems. I did a work-around by making a PDF and printing from that.
    As I mentioned there was no problem printing from the CS4 version.
    This may be a similar problem to the TWAIN problem in CS4.
    Again Thanks,

  • MDT 2013, Deploying Windows 8.1 on Surface and Dell Venue Tablets

    I'm having numerous issues with Capturing Images and Deploying to Windows 8.1 Tablets. We are currently using Surface Pro 1, 2, and Dell Venue 11 Pro tablets. I am using a Windows Server 2012 computer with MDT 2013 installed. I can't get the tablets
    to:
    1-sysprep and capture using MDT 2013
    2-Deploy a Task Sequence with a WIM and other applications attached. (I've tried using the simple standard task seq option with no luck)
    3-I found another way to get a WIM (using imagex) but when i deploy task sequence it ignores my selection of applications to install outside the WIM and only installs the WIM (WIM 14gb = Win 8.1 Ent, Office 2013 x32, MS Updates)
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Everything is being performed within the LAN and with USB 2.0 thumbdrives for media.

    Hi altimav8,
    Are you trying to find out how to deploy Surface Pro method? Before capture the Surface pro image please download the latest drivers for the surface and made sure that they
    were the only drivers that were going to be deployed. There have a specific MDT deploy support forum more about the MDT deploy related issue you can ask in MDT support forum.

  • Macbook (late 08) 13.3" -- miniDV to DVI adapter and Dell 24" 2405 FSP Flat

    All
    Just purchased a Macbook 13.3" and bought the miniDV to DVI adapter for my 24" Dell 2405 FSP. For whatever reason, I cannot get system prefs to "detect display".
    I am not sure if the cable is broken out of package or there is a problem with this adapter in general. I am trying to use the cable to view OS/X and XP Home via Bootcamp on large screen while Macbook is in clamshell (closed) mode.
    Seems like a lot of people are having issues but I don't know what to do. It seems the cables from Apple vary by model and worse, appear to be lower quality than most would expect. Any thoughts on commands or steps to try and diagnose. Or should I buy the miniDV to VGA adapter for the Dell flatscreen?

    Update to this issue.
    1. Friend brought his Macbook Pro 17" with full DVI adapter to my Dell 2405 FPW -- he has same 24" flatscreen. It works -- so monitor is fine.
    2. I went to Apple Store and REPLACED miniDV to DVI adapter to my monitor. No response. Not registering at all. But when friend hooked his Macbook with adapter, the screen came on.
    Assumptions:
    1. Macbook 13.3" aluminum port is damaged -- will go to Apple to confirm
    2. Odds of two adapter cables not working - highly slim (got from two different stores if we want to shake the odds a bit more based on batch shipments
    It appears that the port is NOT compatible with this monitor OR the cable quality is so bad that I have to go through a bunch of them.
    Last option - miniDV to VGA adapter to my Dell monitor to see if that works. But it is one of two options -- from my perspective:
    1. Monitor/port incompatibility
    2. Bad cables
    I even tried XP Home Edition under Bootcamp with the adapter and monitor did not display.
    What's disappointing in all of this is Apple tech support told me to download "drivers" from Dell's site -- and puzzled, I asked if Dell was supporting Mac computers because OS/X did not have drivers for this monitor and Dell only has it themselves - they emailed me download links (which is convenient) but it was clear that she doesn't know what she was doing -- the links were XP and Vista only.
    Sigh...Rev A Macbook. Will probably need Apple to work on this issue.

  • Two phase commit and bean managed transactions

    To all the Transaction GURUS!
              Hi guys (-and gals).
              I've been doing J2EE for quite a while, but today was my first at
              XA-Transactions and Bean Managed Transactions.
              Why am I doing this?
              ====================
              Well I have to be able to controll the transactionalbehaviour of my
              bean
              during runtime, since some bean calls would cause a transactional
              overflow due to the stress they would cause to the system, whereas
              smaller bean calls need to run in one transaction.
              -> Therefore I need Bean Managed Transactions
              Since the bean does a call on two Database Connections it has to use a
              XA-Transaction.
              -> Therefore I need XA-Transactions.
              Abstract
              ========
              - I just can't get a User TransAction into the right Status it stays
              in 'STATUS_NO_TRANSACTION' all the time
              - Therefore the SQL Commands can be comitted 'java.sql.SQLException:
              Does not support SQL execution with no global transaction'
              - Therefore I can't do a rollback 'java.lang.IllegalStateException:
              Transaction does not exist'
              - Therefore I wrote this mail.
              I don't want to be a smart-"ass" writing such a detailed and indepth
              mail. I just would like to show that I tried, and would like to have
              some replies from you guys.
              Below are my configurations, code and logfiles.
              Thanx for taking your time and hope that the other people may learn
              something as well.

              I just don't get it.
              The transaction is the same. I don't change the Connection. I start
              the Transaction at the beginning before I do anything!
              Please guys help me out.
              Thx alot.

    Hi Priscilla
              (did you ever see the movie ? :-))
              Well I moved away from the idea of using bean managed transaction. I'll
              be using Container Managed Transactions. To modify the
              transactionalbehaviour I'll write proxymethods which have certain
              different containermanaged transaction properties, but which all call
              the same private methods.
              But it works! Here is my experience:
              - I was doing a DDL statement: I was trying to create new Tables, which
              is a definite "no-go"
              - pay careful attention to:
              http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs60/jta/trxejb.html#1051405
                        and
              http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs60/jta/trxejb.html#1051741
              and use these Settings for the Pool, don't ask me why, but it took me
              hours to find it out by myself:
                   <JDBCConnectionPool CapacityIncrement="5"
              DriverName="weblogic.jdbc.oci.xa.XADataSource" InitialCapacity="1"
              LoginDelaySeconds="1" MaxCapacity="2" Name="oracleSecurityPool"
              Properties="user=xxx; password=xxx; server=xxx.xxx.xxx"
              RefreshMinutes="5" Targets="fbsserver" TestConnectionsOnRelease="true"
              TestTableName="Users" SupportsLocalTransaction="true"/>
              where as the server (shown as: xxx.xxx.xxx) is the TNS Name of the
              Oracle Driver.
              It works great.
              Another thing you guys might want to do is write a simple StatelessSB
              which does JDBC calls and two different database Connections.
              Then write a UnitTest which calls this bean a couple hundred times (with
              the same transaction). Have one test do clean writes, and another which
              causes some SQL-Exception (too long Data Columns, or likewise).
              Always count the entries and see if everything worked out. We're using
              this SetupConstruction to test new combinations of AS(sorry Priscilla) /
              Database / Db-Drivers to have a "standard test".
              I know my two cents were uncalled for, but it might save you some
              time.....
              thanx for your help
              Stefan

              Hi Stefan,
              Looks like you have not actually begun a transaction by calling
              UserTransaction.begin(),
              so your setupTables method is really executing with no transaction
              context.

  • Setting up new printer with MacBook Pro AND Dell?

    Need a printer, want an AIO, any work better than others with MacBook and Dell?  Purchased a HP Officejet 6500A Plus, any problems using both systems togehter?  Also, should I set up the Dell first then the Mac, or viceversa?

    Thanks for the help, I'm definitely getting there
    I changed the settings as you've described and can now print from my MBP. The 3 Dell laptops are another matter. Would you have any idea what the IP address of the printer would be? Or the AirPort Extreme? I'm following this tutorial:
    http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1004.html
    without much success but I'm really guessing at the IP address. I've tried 192.168.1.1 (my router) and 192.168.1.101 (the IPv4 address) with no luck. I suspect it's the IP address that's the problem ...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Jay

    When I'm watching a netflix movie even with WiFi the resolution phases in and out of high and low resolution. Does anyone know what is causing this?

    Yes, you download speed is changing. If the download speed is not great enough for HD it reverts to SD.

  • Looking for a good black and white laser printer

    I am sorry if I am at a wrong place, but  I would like to get some recommend for a good black and white laser printer.  Maybe some of the user in this group have some good experience
    Thanks in advance - Frank

    The Brother HL-5340D is an excellent choice. It's much cheaper to operate in the long run than others. I did a cost breakdown between it and an HP printer here.
    However the HL-5340D is discontinued. We paid $170 for ours new, and new ones that remain are at a price gouging $530. The current nearest model is the updated HL-5450DN for $185.

  • The Best HP Black and White Laser Printer with e-print

    Please could someone let me know the best HP Laser printer (Black cartridge only) to use in an office environment that has the e-print facility. It will be used frequently and will be printing multiple page PDF attachments from e-mails. Anyones guidance as to which e-print machine to buy will be most appreciated. Many thanks Simon

    The only Black and White Laser Printer that supports e-print is the HP LaserJet Pro M1536 Series Multifunction Printer.  Here is a link to the support site:  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3974279&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us
    Other color LaserJet products that support e-print are the HP LaserJet Pro CM1415 Series and the CP1525 Series.
    Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
