PHC & Intel Pentium M Centrino & kernel 3.x

Hi to all, I have a simple question: does phc undervolting work with Pentium M and kernel 3.x?
I heard rumors on phc forum that it doesn't work  http://linux-phc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=321  and infact I cant get it to work on my system, I get the classical error cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/phc_vids: No such device
more details here: http://linux-phc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4984
Please someone with a Pentium M notebook could test phc-intel? Thanks
Ps.I'll try to manually modify speedstep-centrino.c , the hardcoded method

I'm pretty sure I've got it working on an old x41t, I think everything worked out of the box for me. I'll get back to you later when I charge it up and check.

I installed the AUR package for phc-intel, changed the VIDS in /etc/phc-intel.conf and rebooted.
Running /usr/bin/phc-intel start doesn't have any effect (status still shows as "Stopped")
I'm running a custom Zen kernel, acpi-cpufreq is built as a module.

  • System upgrade fails with pacman - phc-intel requires kernel26 2.6.31

    Hello,
I'm a relative newbie to archlinux, so I hope I'm not asking a too stupid question ...
I have installed arch on an IBM Thinkpad X40. Was now on extended holidays and haven't done a system upgrade for a while. Wanted to do this now and pacman -Syy works fine. However, when I then start the upgrade with pacman -Su, the following error message occurs:
    :: Starte komplette Systemaktualisierung...
    :: portmap durch core/rpcbind ersetzen? [J/n] J
    Löse Abhängigkeiten auf...
    Suche nach Zwischen-Konflikten...
Fehler: Konnte den Vorgang (Kann Abhängigkeiten nicht erfüllen) nicht vorbereiten
    :: phc-intel: benötigt kernel26<2.6.31
translated into English it basically means that pacman wants to replace portmap with rpcbind. However, the following error message occurs whether or not I say yes. The error messages says that it cannot fulfill the dependencies as phc-intel requires kernel26<2.6.31. The strange thing is that my kernel at the moment is 2.6.29.
A first run of pacman -u worked fine but only upgraded pacman itself. I had a pacman.conf.pacnew in /etc which I renamed to pacman.conf and kept the old one as a backup. However, this also didn't change anything.
I hope you guys can help me out, thanks in advance,
    F.

The update will be trying to install a new kernel, which is why you're getting the error. For packages in the repos, a new one would be built that's compatible with the new kernel. Since it looks like phc-intel is from the AUR you'll need to build a new version yourself.
Edit - that's what I get for stepping away for a bit, you already got a response and fixed it

  • I can not install Oracle 8i 1.6 Client for NT on an Intel pentium 4 Machine

    Hi all,
I've heard the java virtual m installed during the installation of oracle client manager 8i 1.6 on a Intel Pentium IV is bugy till now we could n't bring it to runn. Is there anyone who has the uptodate Patch or work around for that problem?
I will be pleased to read any of the suggestions
    Thanks and regards.

I think you would need to contact Oracle support to get the CD's if they're still available. 8.1.6 is desupported.
What kind of errors do you get whne trying to use Crystal with Oracle 8.1.7.4? Perhaps this is an ODBC issue?

  • Flash player 10.3.181.14 requires intel pentium 4 2.33ghz,I have  intel CPU T2080@1.73ghz processor

I am trying to use Adobe Flash player at home to simply surf the web. For a long time I've been getting prompts to update Flash Player and however much I updated it the prompts kept on poping up. This got so frustrating I decided i'd try to fix the problem once and for all. So I checked the system requirements Adobe recommend for the update I had been downloading and found one of the minimum requirements to be an intel pentium 4 2.33ghz processor. I checked my system and I have only an intel CPU [email protected] processor. My question is, does this explain why I am having so many problems? I've tried to download an earlier version of Flash Player but I always get redirected to the 10.3.181.14 version. How it has come to this I am not quite sure but I must admit I have removed the Flash Player from my computer at the moment and I'm worried that it was a mistake because will I ever get a working version again? I am running Windows Vista 32bit and Internet Explorer 8 32bit. I am out of my depth so please be gentle!

You might have better luck if you post your question in the Flash Player forum...

I downloaded Firefox 5.0. Firefox will not open. States running offline. I have a Intel Pentium/Windows XP system.
This also happened when I tried to download Firefox 4.
    Firefox 3.6.18 works fine

You may need to delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing the latest Firefox.<br />
In case you still have problems after installing then check your security software.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Yepp, we tried that as a test setup. Works, but I think we did not have
    native IO running.

I do not recognize "Sims 3"  -- I suspect "The Sims 3" is a game and you are asking because the game is one you must purchase.  It would indeed be nice to know if you can play before you pay.  No one likes to guess about these things.
In general, yours is not a gaming system -- it is a little notebook, not made for playing games.
If the game is a "little game", then -- maybe.
If the game is going to be a large monetary investment -- say, more than you can toss out the window if you end up not being able to run it because the computer is not able to handle it, then the answer is
"No, you cannot run the game."
True / False statements cannot have any "if" bits.
You might go to the game's Website and check out what other's say about this.  Check not just what kind of processor, also how much RAM (memory) is enough (for example, 4GB on a computer is not very much to have, you need MORE), whether you can run on just wireless.  See whether anyone else has tried to run Sims 3 on a smaller computer.

    Will it work ?
    Thnx.

    Hi Zahid-I,
We support the Windows server system install on the certified hardware you can search ask your hardware vendor for exactly supported system or you can search the Windows Server
Catalog to found whether your hardware certified by server 2008, personal experience is most of the laptop not supported the server system.
    Windows Server Catalog

Personal experience is if our PC hardware meet the minimum require of server system we can install it for test lab.

  • Can I run CC on Intel Pentium G2030 3.00GHz dual core. NVIDIA Geforce GT610 1GB graphics. Viglen Vig642M Motherboard?

Can I run CC on Intel Pentium G2030 3.00GHz dual core. NVIDIA Geforce GT610 1GB graphics. Viglen Vig642M Motherboard?
I also have 8GB RAM DDR3, 1TB HDD, Its on Windows 7, is that a problem with the allocated graphics card?
    P

    Thanks John,
I've done this, but couldn't gather clear information about whether the graphics card was suitable for Premiere CC? Using CPUbenchmark it seemed to me like it would be suitable. Its unlikely we would use After Effects CC but would be handy if it would work.
Also the G2030 dual core? Can you recommend how I find out if this would work, as the site states the requirement to be a Dual Core2... does this mean the software (Premiere CC, Photoshop CC, Indesign CC etc) would not work at all?
    Any guidance helpful.

  • Creative Cloud Requirement: Does Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2200 @ 2.2GHZ 2.20GHZ work?

Creative Cloud requirements ask for Intel® Pentium® 4 or AMD Athlon® 64 processor (2 GHz or faster). I have an Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2200 @ 2.2GHZ 2.20GHZ, which supposedly is better than a Pentium 4. Can I install the Creative Cloud apps on my computer as long as I have Windows 7 64 bit version?

By the way, I called support since no-one was answering this. And they said "yes, the requirements are a minimum. If you have something better (in this case I do) it will be fine".

  • Pentium-M-optimized kernel

    Eee repository from toofishes
toofishes created a repository for the Eee. You can find some basic packages like Pentium-M-optimized kernel and needed modules. Add
    [eee]
    Server = http://code.toofishes.net/packages/eee
Saw this kernel option browsing thru the Eee PC part of wiki helping a friend.  I use a Pentium M laptop for day to day Arch use, would this kernel be worth a try or is it going to screw everything that I have worked so hard to build.
I use dwm as my main WM.
    pink

The eee kernel will install itself along side your standard arch kernel. You will still be able to use your standard kernel if you choose.
Just add another entry in grub that will boot vmlinuzeee (the eee kernel), and leave your standard grub entry and kernel alone. That way you can test to see if kernel-eee is any good for your machine.
My eeepc has both kernels installed and the eee kernel boots 7 seconds quicker than the standard one.
Just hope all the modules for your machine are in the eee kernel or some of your hardware isn't going to work.
But I can't see it would bork your install, at worst it's going to kernel panic. If it does restart and choose the standard kernel from grub ( That you kept ).
I might go and install it on my desktop now just to see what happens.
