Philips 22inch lcd monitor for mac pro

hi there,
I have recently bought a philips 22 inch lcd monitor (220WS8) for my mac pro, but everytime when i start up the system, it keeps booting up with my old display setup (which was my old 15 inch monitor) and having a big black area on the right.
I have to reset it back to 1680 X 1050 everytime when i startup my system.
I was reading the manual and it suggest resetting the PRAM while starting up the system. That worked, but if I have to do this everytime when i turn on my computer, this is really annoying.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or know the solution to this?
* by the way I am currently using the dvi > vga converter at the moment.
Thanks
Thomas

Hello:
That's interesting. The first time I experienced the problem I was using a vga cable also. I've since switched to dvi.
I've had some strange issues with the 10.4.9 update though. Aside from the video problems the machine was logging itself off every few hours, some disk images ( .dmg and .iso ) refusing to mount, slowness and some USB devices acting strangely. I took it ( 10.4.9 ) off and everything is working great again. Some people have told me it's the 2007-005 security update causing the havoc.
Being an old windows machine convert I am used to straightening out software ( and hardware ) problems. I'd like to experiment and find out what is causing the issues, but I don't have enough spare time to tinker right now. My time is much better spent tending my web sites. The main reason I bought the Mac was to save time, knuckles and aggravation and so far it's done a great job of handling the work load demanded of it. I see now why Mac owners consider their Mac their friend.

  • Suggestions for a good monitor for mac pro

can someone suggest a good 4k monitor(preferably a 4k tv to be used)
to attach with macpro and which are the accessories needed to make that
    operational

I do not really understand what you mean.
The follow Apple articles several 4K monitors and lists which support 30 Hz and 60 Hz
Using 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with Mac computers
The following also lists some 4G monitors

  • Which monitor for mac pro and FCP

    Hi,
I'm using a quad core mac pro with a Dell 2407wfp. In this setup I mainly do FCP editing. The monitor is 4 years old and I like to replace it for a larger one. I recently saw a setup with a Samsung P2770HD full hd and a tv tuner on board. Will this be good enough for FCP editing and reviewing HD content?
    TIA

Will this be good enough for FCP editing and reviewing HD content?
Probably not - but I have no experience with that monitor.
Not what you asked but why not keep the Dell for displaying FCP timeline, bins, etc and purchase a quality HDTV and the means to feed it a hd signal (eg AJA Kona series, various Blackmagic cards, Matrox MXO series, etc) for viewing output?

  • 2nd Monitor for Mac Pro

I currently have a Mac Pro that is hooked up to the 24" Apple LED Cinema Display. Here's the problem. I want a second display. I've been fighting myself trying to determine what to get for a second display. (I am a web developer and amateur videographer and could use the extra space.)
At first, I really wanted another 24" LED Cinema Display, but had a tough time justifying the additional 900 bucks retail. Then they had the refurbs at 599 which makes it a bit more palatable. But still difficult considering a 24" screen can be had for 200-300 bucks. I wasn't sure how ****** I'd be if I had my nice 24" Cinema Display sitting next to some non-apple monitor.
Now enter the iMac 27" LED's. I know the price is close to 1700 bucks for one of these, but it would be awesome..except for the fact that I'd have one 24" and one 27".
    I'm in limbo...any recommendations?
    Thanks in advance!

Just get the extra display. Why but another whole computer?
I have two Cinema display (not the new one like yours) and they look good together I can't imagine not having matching displays...

  • Recommended LCD monitor for Mac Minin 1.42

I'm trying to find a LCD monitor in the 20"-22" range for my Mac Mini 1.42 that is known to work out of the box using DVI without having to tweak things (i.e. SwitchResX). I have already purchased and returned a HP w2007. My next choice was a ViewSonic VX2035wm but reading this forum it is also known to have timing problems. I'd rather not spend the $$$ for an Apple monitor (not even sure if they work). Would like to keep the cost below $300.
    Thanks

You might find the page at http://www.freewebs.com/themagius/macintoshmini.htm helpful since it was compiled for the original 1.25 and 1.42 PPC minis. It does, however, list only DVI.
VGA displays were less troublesome, since they almost all work with the mini, though some were apt to display dim or greyish output.

  • Use iMac 27 mid 11 as monitor for Mac pro?

I got a imac 27 mid 2011 with a failed video card, and the price of replacing it and the logicboard cost the same as new second hand, so basically a machine in perfect condition is just ready for the junk yard, yea, thats the power of Apple quality.
Anyway, ive been thinking about getting a Pro 2010-11 model, and first question, when did Pro come with TB interface?
Second, is it possible to install a TB card so i can plug in my Imac 27 and use it as monitor only?
Or, in general, is it possible to use my imac 27 as a monitor if the Pro has TB interface?

the new Mac Pro (late 2013) is the first MacPro with TB

  • Alternative monitor for Mac Pro

I am doing Video Post Production. I purchased 27" and returned because of the glare. The way my room is set up, I can see all the glare coming from the windows, trees, clouds, including sun. Can anyone recommend a great 27" monitor? I know its not fair to ask about the third party hardware on Apple discussion board, but I have no other choice, but to get another monitor.
Sorry Apple, I tried using your LCD wonderful screen, but the glare is just killing me.

    Hi Girshon,
In my opinion, and also that of Lloyd Chambers, author of the legendary Mac Performance Guide, this NEC PA271W is your best 27" display option:
    http://diglloyd.com/articles/Recommended/displayNEC27.html
I speak as somebody who has been using an NEC MultiSync LCD3090WQXi 30" display since July 2009, and I have not had a single problem. It is a display par excellence!
You might find this recent thread of interest, albeit that it is centred around 30" displays:

  • Hardware for Mac Pro early 2008

    Hi there
We have very old Macs at our university. We will renew them next year, however we need to hook up our magnificent video monitors to Premiere Pro CC. There is only DVI and FireWire signal out, no thunderbolt. Inputs on the monitor are HD SDI and HDMI.
I´m sure there must be Hardware for this Mac Pro (2008) in order to connect to monitor digitally. I´m sure there were options when Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 was the current version back in 2008. Any ideas?
    Jon

I have already connected two monitors via a DVI “hub”. So they are up and running fine.
The hub don´t have any more outputs of any kind. Also I´m not sure if the quality would be good enough for the monitor output.
Now I also realised that there is no HDMI input on the monitor, only HD SDI.
Please look at photo here for info on my current graphics card.
    Best,
    Jon

  • How many Monitors on Mac Pro 2.1?

    Hello and Merry Christmas everyone!!
I'm curious to know what is the most number of monitors/displays anyone has ever been able to run on their  Mac Pro 2.1?
Right now I'm running 4, but am curious if you can go higher?
    Thanks!!

You can drive nine displays using the internal PCI-e slots.
One ATI Radeon HD 5770 (three displays)
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC742ZM/A/ati-radeon-hd-5770-graphics-upgrade- kit-for-mac-pro-mid-2010>
and three Nvidia GeForce GT 120 (two displays per card)
    <http://www.amazon.com/Nvidia-GeForce-120-Graphics-Upgrade/dp/B001V3DZD4>
For more cards you can use a PCIe Expander.
    <http://www.magma.com/catalog/basic-pcie-expansion>
If you don't care about performance you can add four more displays via USB

  • GeForce 7300 GT Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro?? G5?

    Hi,
Just found this on the apple store:
    http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=1643C421&nplm=M A567
"NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro"
Why is it only for mac pro? its PCI express & my g5 is one of the late 2005 models and it has PCI Express so am i wrong in thinking that this should work fine or is it something to do with the new intel architecture?
If i remember correctly i could have chosen this card or a very similar one when i configured my G5.
    Thanks

That card is only for the Mac Pro, as it says.
When you ordered your G5, you had the choice of the nVidia 6600 (or 6600LE), nVidia 7800GT, or the Quadro FX 4500.
The 7800GT that you could have ordered with your G5 is close in performance to the ATi X1900XT that is an option on the Mac Pro. The 7300GT that you're looking at is an entry level card, which the 7800GT definitely is not.
The 7300GT and the X1900XT are both Mac Pro only due to the ROM on the card, which is designed to work with the EFI booting hardware that the Mac Pro uses. The G5s used Open Firmware, which requires a different ROM on the video card. So, even though both your G5 and the Mac Pro are PCI-Express based, these video cards are not compatible.
Now, most PCI-Express cards that you look at for, say, external SATA, will probably work in both the G5 and the Mac Pro. You'd still want to check the specs to be sure, however.
If you're looking for a new video card to replace your (presumably) nVidia 6600, your only real option is the ATi X1900 G5 edition. This is a different card than the X1900XT that's offered for the Mac Pro.

  • ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro dvi hdmi cable

I am sending video signal over a 50FT HDMI To DVI from my Mac Pro (3,1) via ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro (5.0 GT/s) (181062917108) and I cannot get a constant signal to my TV. The signal stays on for a few seconds or several hours or my TV (Samsung) says there is no signal or I get just a gray static screen.
I never had a problem before with my previous video card the 512MB nVidia GeForce 8800GT with a 25ft long cable. Any ideas people?

A cable of about 5 meters (16 ft) can be manufactured to Category 1 specifications easily and inexpensively by using 28 AWG (0.081 mm²) conductors.[114] With better quality construction and materials, including 24 AWG (0.205 mm²) conductors, an HDMI cable can reach lengths of up to 15 meters (49 ft).[114]
    from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
You may need a higher-quality cable or a lower resolution for your display to make this work without an HDMI Repeater.

  • LCD Monitor for Video Editing: Resolution Concern

I am trying to select an LCD monitor for my newly built computer. I have zeroed in on the DELL SP2309W, 23" Full HD Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor with Webcam. The optical resolution is Higher than Full HD at 2048 x 1152.
It is my understanding that Higher than HD Resolution is good for multi-tasking (but DVD movies get stretched and therefore the quality of your videos goes down.), but is it good for video editing with Premiere Elements 7 or 8? Should I be looking at monitors with 1920 x 1080 resolution?

If you run in anything other than the LCD's native resolution your graphics card will be resampling the image. This inevitably distorts the image as pixels must be discarded to create the display. Typically this softens the image.

  • "fire wire" video capture cards for mac pro

....Have Power Mac ver. 10.9.5 system Maverick w/ 4 MB RAM & am trying to locate hardware for:
acquiring "FIRE WIRE" video capture cards for mac pro.... ? Any suggestions....?(Just purchased Adobe CS 5 premium)

Your question doesn't make much sense.
What type of Mac Pro do you have? Is it the new black cylinder or the old style silver tower?
Firewire is built-in to the old models & the new Mac Pros can use Thunderbolt to Firewire converters to capture from Firewire sources.
    Maybe like this http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
Many older cameras used Firewire for capturing, but that has been replaced by other connection types. What are you trying to capture from?
