Philips 26PF9946/12 26'' LCD TV

Hey all, I've found a program called DisplayConfigX that enables you to change every setting for your TV/Monitor. I was just wondering if anyone has the 'timing' settings for this make of TV (26PF9946/12) for use with a MAC MINI?
Here is a link to the site with lots of info...
http://voodoofx.all.de/displayconfigx/index.html
Anyhelp would be great.
Thanks.

Ryan,
What's the display mode you are interested in?
I've got the same set-up as you (Mac mini plus Philips 26PF9946). I've had some success getting them working together using DisplayConfigX, but only when using the DVI to VGA converter to the Philip's analogue input. I can't get the DVI-D input working (after initial boot up) properly at all.
The mode I generally use is 1280x768 @60Hz, with the follwing DisplayConfigX settings:
Horizontal:
Active 1280
Front porch 120
Sync 136
Back porch 208
Total 1744
Vertical:
Active 768
Front porch 2
Sync 3
Back porch 23
Total 796
Refresh rate 59.990Hz
If you use these settings you should be able to adjust the TV to display the picture perfectly. I hope this helps. If you've managed to get the DVI-D input working directly without the VGA converter, please let me know how as it's driving me crazy! That would let me use the PIP function on the TV, which based on using it with my PC, is very handy!
Regards,
Owen

  • Mini - DVI/HDMI - Onkyo TX-SR674 - Philips 42" LCD | Problem

OK, I just got my new Mini (1.66 Core Duo) to hook up to my Philips 42" 1080P HDTV LCD. I have the video signal going via a DVI to HDMI cable through my Onkyo TX-SR674 Receiver. The reason for this setup is that the Onkyo receiver controls my video switching and sends the video signal through only one HDMI cable to the TV. That way with one press, I switch audio and video signal at the same time.
Well, the Mini works great with this setup... until... I start up Safari. As soon as Safari starts, I lose the video signal. I can run iTunes, System Utilities and it doesn't cause this problem. The video signal flickered a bit during a repair of permissions, but as soon as Safari brings up the Apple page, I lose the signal.
My video res is setup at 1920x1200, 60 Hz.
Any idea why this is happening. What in the Safari browser would cause the video signal to all of the sudden freak out?
    Thanks!
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

OK, I had no problems with a direct hookup to my TV and bypass the TX-SR674, but I was not satisfied with that solution!
I found other programs and not just certain webpages in Safari that caused the display to freakout in the old mode, too.
I downloaded and installed switchResX and it had two (2) 1920x1080x60 resolutions listed. When I choose the other 1920x1080x60 resolution, it works fine. Doesn't freak out. Not sure what is different about the second setting, but so far it seems to work OK.
If worse comes to worse, I could always lower the resolution and just have the TX-S674 upscale it to 1080 for me. I may do this eventually anyway since everything on the screen is a bit too small to read from my couch. Not sure on that yet.
But anyways, just thought I'd report back on my results. Thanks!

  • My macbook, from 2009, doesnt show any picture in a piece of his screen

My macbook is from 2009 and now a piece from his screen doesnt show any pictures anymore. I went to a shop from Apple and they told me that its a contact problem and to solve this it will cost about U$700, thats almost the price from a new mac! Does that mean that I have to buy a new Mac every 4 years?
Has someone else the same problem?
    How you solved this?

    Hi there
The quote for 700 is outrageous. It could be as simple as a loose connection or something not terribly expensive as a new screen. Did they tell you exactly what was to replaced for that 700 dollar diagnosis? Unfortunately, Apple seems to charge you 50 dollars for a screw, no wonder they are doing so well these days. Your Macbook uses a screen made by a manufacturer who makes the same screens for Laptops made by other manufactures who make "PC" laptops. Depending on screen size, you could purchase the screen on Ebay for about 100 dollars. Thats what I did with my MacBook which had a 13.3 inch LG Philips LP133WX1 (TL)(A1) LCD screen. I put it in myself, which is relatively easy. The hard part would be to replace the CCFL bulb inside the LCD if that went, now thats a bit trickier, but that isnt the case here, you are replacing the whole screen. I would call around, but I can almost guarantee you that it would cost you less than 200 dollars total for the screen and a local computer store to install that screen. Call the local shop that specializes in mac first, then call a local PC shop for a second quote to have some leverage. Some places seems to charge double or triple if it has a Apple logo on it.
Good luck and let us know the outcome.

  • Problem connecting MBP 17" to 37" LCD Philips

    Hi all,
I recently bought a new Philips flat TV LCD model, the top-range for their 37 inches production (3ms panel, one of the fastest).
This tv has 3 HDMI connections , and should support PC connections (it's a full hd , with support for 1080p connections).
2 days ago I bought an HDMI-DVI male cable, and tried connecting my MBP 17" (2.16GHz) to the tv.
I wasn't able to let my Mac detect the lcd tv. I tried switching all the resolutions, then pressing Detect Display button, or switching channel back and forth on my tv to let the HDMI connection be engaged.
What I obtained was only a temporary blue screen on my Mac when I switched channel on the TV.
The TV manual explicitly says that it supports DVI connections from a PC. They must be at 60Hz refresh rate.
Anyone who can help me with any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance

If I were you I would check the TV's plug-and-display driver for clues. This requires downloading and installing SwitchRes X (I recommend the Control Panel version over the full version because the full version requires a helper application to be installed). Once SRX is installed, with the TV hooked up to it, click on the "Export DDC" button. This will create a text file from the driver data inside the TV. Post it here and I'll help you interpret it.

  • Philips 22inch lcd monitor for mac pro

    hi there,
I have recently bought a philips 22 inch lcd monitor (220WS8) for my mac pro, but everytime when i start up the system, it keeps booting up with my old display setup (which was my old 15 inch monitor) and having a big black area on the right.
I have to reset it back to 1680 X 1050 everytime when i startup my system.
I was reading the manual and it suggest resetting the PRAM while starting up the system. That worked, but if I have to do this everytime when i turn on my computer, this is really annoying.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or know the solution to this?
    * by the way I am currently using the dvi > vga converter at the moment.
    Thanks
    Thomas

    Hello:
That's interesting. The first time I experienced the problem I was using a vga cable also. I've since switched to dvi.
I've had some strange issues with the 10.4.9 update though. Aside from the video problems the machine was logging itself off every few hours, some disk images ( .dmg and .iso ) refusing to mount, slowness and some USB devices acting strangely. I took it ( 10.4.9 ) off and everything is working great again. Some people have told me it's the 2007-005 security update causing the havoc.
Being an old windows machine convert I am used to straightening out software ( and hardware ) problems. I'd like to experiment and find out what is causing the issues, but I don't have enough spare time to tinker right now. My time is much better spent tending my web sites. The main reason I bought the Mac was to save time, knuckles and aggravation and so far it's done a great job of handling the work load demanded of it. I see now why Mac owners consider their Mac their friend.

  • Can be possibile that a Philips LCD screen doesn't work correctly with Mac?

    I've buy a LCD Screen 17" Philips SXGA 170S7FB/00.
The first time i've connect it on my Mac Mini and it worked, but the second time when i try to startup the Mac,on the screen appair only a white page with in the middle a folder signed with a flashing question mark.
Can be possibile that the monitor make creates problems or conflit with Operative System?
    Alskarez
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4)

If a display isn't compatible with the system, generally what you would see is that the display would go blank or distorted, but the system still work. It is not likely that the monitor has caused this problem, and the fact you can see a white screen with the flashing question mark shows that the screen and mini are able to talk to each other.
The flashing question mark indicates that the mini cannot find a copy of MacOS to boot from. I see you've asked about this issue in the 'Using the Mac mini' area, which is where I think you'll be most likely to get some assistance trying to get your system running again.

  • Philips 32' LCD HDTV

I cannot get a full screen display with the above TV (Model no.: 32PF9966) even after installing SwithResx. It has 1366 * 768 resolution. I would like to know if anybody using the same TV or similare Philips LCD TV with 1366*768 sucessfully achieve a full screen display. Thanks.

    Houston;
I noticed from your signature line, you're running Mac OS X 10.2.X. You'll need to upgrade to 10.4.X series before using the Philips HDTV set. The display drivers in 10.4.X will properly feed the right video signals. All you need is the DVI to HDMI adapter.
    Take care.

  • Macmini and LCD 37" Philips 9986. what appened?

Hi, I bought my first mac and I was really happy to finally change from the Windows mediacenter.
I own a Philips 37" 9986 LCD television with DVI and the macmini connected with DVI cable.
For two weeks everything worked properly but suddenly powering up the mac I had strange violet interference since the first (usually grey) booting up screen.
I tried to get the screen setting menu although the image was terrible due to the violet stripes, I tried to change something and since then I have no signal on the LCD.
I already tried the following steps to find out where the problem could be:
cable test: changed the DVI cable -> the problem persist
LCD test: changed PC (connecting the "old" microsoft which works fine) -> LCD is ok
macmini HW (video card) test: tested the mini with the video I have at the office (XENON 1810E) via DVI-VGA connector -> I can work with the macmini without any video problem
I tried to reset the PMU -> problem persist
I tried to reset the PRAM and the NVRAM -> problem persist
at last: if I connect the macmini to the philips 9986 LCD Television I have definitively no signal (not even the boot screen).
Shall I bring the macmini to the assistance? (I wonder why the first two weeks it has worked properly, and the reason for the violet interference before I got this black out).

  • Philips RC144 5302 / 00B Codes for Vizio E241-A1 LCD TV

Has anyone found a code that will allow the Philips remote control A / V button to to open the Input menu on the Vizio E241-A1 LCD TV and also allow the up down arrow buttons to switch between the input sources on the TV? I am using the following code > 1292 < and it allows only On/Off, Vol + / -, and Mute. Code 3145 does the same and none of the other codes listed work at all. Thank you in advance!

I'm not familiar with the equipment you are using.  But in my experience, using brand name remotes on other equipment, at best, provides the limited functions you described.    If you want to control both with the same remote you should get a universal remote.  I've seen the harmony recommended several times, but no personal experience.

  • Philips LCD HDTV without RF Input???

Hi - I am curious about this Philips model television:
    Philips - 55" Class / 1080p / 240Hz / LCD HDTV
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Philips+-+55%22+Class+/+1080p+/+240Hz+/+LCD+HDTV/1390518.p?skuId=1390518...
But noticed it doesn't have an RF Antenna input!  Does this mean it doesn't have a built in digital tuner?  I thought all new HDTV's had built in tuners to pick up free stations.  If I don't have cable and get this TV, will I have to buy a digital tuner too?  That seems really silly, so I hope I am missing something.
    Any information would be great.
    Thanks!
    Tom

According to the owners manual, there is indeed an RF connector:
    http://download.p4c.philips.com/files/5/55pfl5505d_f7/55pfl5505d_f7_dfu_aen.pdf
Another tip-off was the V-Chip in the specifications.  A V-chip indicates it has a built in tuner.

  • Apple TV & Philips LCD HD

Hi this may sound like a stupid question, but I want buy apple tv and a new HD LCD.
The apple requirements say that the tv needs to be:
Apple TV works with widescreen, enhanced-definition, or high-definition TVs capable of:
    • 1080p 60/50Hz
    • 1080i 60/50Hz
    • 720p 60/50Hz
    • 576p 50Hz (PAL format)
    • 480p 60Hz
The TV i was think of buying is http://www.shop.philips.co.uk/katalog/ctl3590/cp36390/si2465877/cl/
The Spec is Pixel Plus HD, 1366 x 768p, is this compatible? Sorry if its a stupid question!

  • Mac Mini and Philips 32PF9966 LCD

Hi all, I've posted this on another thread but no one's replied yet,
hope I will get more attention here!
I just got a mac mini C2D and hooked it via DVI to my philips 32pf9966 flat tv HDTV ready. The panel has a DVI socket so I used a DVI cable. The mini automatically resolved to 720x1280 50 hz resolution, the TV would recognize the input as 720p but the characters are bloated and the top, bottom, left and right edges bleed off the screen. If I choose from the mac the 768 x 1024 resolution, the top and bottom edges are fine, the characters are perfectly readable, but I have black borders on the right and left sides. The TV recognizes an XGA input.
From my TV spec, I see that the supported resolutions are:
    Computer
    Res. Refresh rate
    640 x 480 60Hz
    800 x 600 60Hz
    1024 x 768 60Hz
    1280 x 768 60 Hz
    • Video
    Res. Refresh rate
    640 x 480i 1Fh
    640 x 480p 2Fh
    720 x 576i 1Fh
    720 x 576p 2Fh
    1280 x 720p 3Fh
    1920 x 1080i 2Fh
    1920 x 1152i 50 Hz
The 768x1366 is advertized as WXGA on the leaflet cover.
The question is: I have DisplayConfigX but I'm afraid of making some blunders playing around with the settings since there are no clear instructions on the site...I tried using "timing" to set it to 768x1366 but the program automatically switched it to 1368. Is this OK? If not how do I adjust it to 1366? After I click "install", will I be able to use the other configurations I already have in the Mac mini display options or will they be cancelled?
One last question: I'm in Italy, where allegedly the frequency should be 50 not 60Hz...Shall I go with 60 anyway?
Thanks a lot for your patience.
    Andre

    Hi, thanks for you reply.
Tonight I'll try the suggested settings and see if it works...
Re the manual, I don't think I can post any attachments here, anyway here is the link to the technical spec sheet
    http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/3/32pf996610/32pf9966_10_psseng.pdf
where you can see that is supports PC connection and res. up to 768x1366
and here is the link to the manual:
    http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/3/32pf996610/32pf9966_10_dfueng.pdf
on page 22 there's how to connect to a PC via DVI...
Do you know whether switchresX would support 768x1366?
    Thanks again
    Ciao

  • Connection MACBOOK PRO to Philips LCD: NO VIDEO SIGNAL

    Hello all,
I recently both a Philips LED TV, type: 40PFL8605H/12.
    I have a MACBOOK PRO from 2007.
I would like to use this MACBOOK PRO as a media server on the TV.
I have connected the MACBOOKPRO via DVI-VGA connector to the VGA input of the Philips TV.
Result; I get 'no video signal'-message on the TV screen. I recently connected the MACBOOK to a beamer and it worked perfectly.
Although, the TV say's 'no video signal' the display system preferences does recognizes the TV. It say's PHILIPS FTV and a different number of resolutions.
I have tried them all, the result stays the same.
I'll tried the Philips helpdesk and the answer was that everything seamed to be connected ok...so, no use full help there (yet)
'Google-ing' around did not give an answer either.
Anybody here with use full tips?

    Thanks a brody,
I'll get me one of those cables and give it a try...
are you sure it should work then? i see a lot of discussions and people with the same problems...
I was first thinking to buy a new mac mini to use it as my 'home-server' and as multi media player.
However, my 'old' macbookpro is also getting 'ware-out' and is subjet for replacement for profesional purposes...
If I could use my good old macbookpro as media/server, it would save me a couple of euro's...
Can you (or somebody else) advice me... my old macbook as media server and a new one as profesional lap-top or upgrade my old macbook (new harddisk extra memory) and mac mini as home server and media player...
of course, first criteria is to get my old macbook hooked-up to my TV ...
    thanks for the advice...
    cheers
