Philips HDMI to DVI connection....is this possible?

Hi, I just recently got a 32" Philips LCD with VGA and HDMI capabilities. I want to run my 12" G4 PB to it. I have a HDMI to DVI cable that I am connecting via the mini-DVI cable that came with the G4 but I get no signal. I called philips and they had me mess with the resolution to no avail. The customer service rep suggested I make sure the hertz is at 60 but I can't find that on the G4 (newish to macs). Could anyone lend some expertise in this area? Thank you

Found my answer.

I cannot get the video output from the HDMI to work. I have been using DVI to DVI and replaced the cable with HDMI, however only get a "no signal" message when I try to. I have adjusted the input type on the monitor to HDMI but nothing is being displayed. Is there anything I need to do to output video on HDMI (I assume it should happen just by plugging in)? I haven't had a chance to test the monitor on another PC as yet, but this will be my next option.
    Any suggestions welcome.

Yes, I initially set it up with the HDMI as the only connection, but I also tested having both DVI and HDMI connected at the same time - in this case it detects the model number of the monitor through HDMI and gives me the option for extended desktop etc - however, if I try selecting duplicate screens and then cycle through the input types on the monitor, when it gets to HDMI the screen is just black.
I'll swap the monitor with my TV when I get back home tonight and see what the results are then.
On other thing issue (probably unrelated) is I get noticeable ghosting, especially when scrolling down webpages (dark text leaves a white silhouette) - I'm using the same DVI cable and monitor that I was on XP, the only difference being the OS and the graphics card.

  • I want to use my ipad as a midi controller on my MacBook pro via USB no with wiFi connection, is this possible ?

hi guys, i am new to garageband.
i have the Ipad 4th generation and just installed garageband on my mackbook pro, i see that i can use my ipad as a midi controller via WiFi but there is a delay, my question is: Can i use my ipad as a midi controller via the USB connection, that will eliminate de lag or delay.
    thanks

Keynote Remote, but you will need wifi. You can set up an ad-hoc wifi network from your Macbook itself ("Create Network" from the Wifi menu), which the iPad can connect to.

  • Lenovo K1 1304 Tablet - Micro HDMI to DVI No Signal

    Hi,
I'm having a problem here. I want to connect my Lenovo K1 tablet to a TV or monitor with DVI input using HDMI cable and HDMI to DVI Adapter. This should work perfectly fine since both hdmi and dvi are backwards compatible with each other and I've succesfully connected a different tablet like that before, yet I get no signal when trying to output a video from Lenovo K1 Tablet.
Micro HDMI output port on my K1 works fine since I can output signal to HDMI input on my TV but not to DVI input using HDMI to DVD Adapter and like I said this should work just fine.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks.

It doubt the adapter has to be HDCP "compliant", because it should just provide a mapping of pins/wires from HDMI to DVI, so any handshaking would occur between the endpoints (tablet and display device).  In case it helps, here's the pin mapping:
    http://pinouts.ru/VideoCables/hdmi_dvi_cable_pinout.shtml
There are some different flavors of DVI, such as DVI-D versus DVI-I, with single or dual links - is it possible that there is a mismatch between adapter, cable, and device?

The FireWire cable is just for the FireWire ports on the display.  The display will run without it.

I originally set up my mini with the included HDMI -> DVI adaptor to connect to a Sycmaster monitor. The graphics were very good.

I would suggest you visit an Apple dealer, preferably an Apple Store if there's one in your city, and ask for assistance in determining what you need. The questions and issues you bring up are rather complex to address in a technical support forum and would be better addressed in person where you and the salesperson can ask questions back and forth to arrive at the optimal setup.

  • Satellite A205: Dynadock - How to connect to LCD TV with HDMI to DVI cable

I recently purchased this product and had a problem when connecting it to my LCD TV.
I used a HDMI to DVI cable to connect it to the TV. Only a small portion of the full display shows on the TV.
I have adjusted all setting on the laptop (Satellite A205) but it only adjusts the laptop screen, not the TV.
I also used the adaptor to VGA, plugged it into the computer input on TV, same effect. I can use VGA output on side of laptop to TV ok.
Any ideas on how to adjust dynadock output settings?

First of all it would be interesting to know what dynadock you have exactly; one with DVI port or one with VGA port?
    >I have adjusted all setting on the laptop (Satellite A205) but it only adjusts the laptop screen, not the TV.
You should know that the dynadock has a own built-in graphics controller and video drivers to control the video stream.
Therefore you should change the settings directly in the dynadock settings and not on the laptop!!!

  • How do I connect Monitor without HDMI (but DVI-D) to laptop with micro-HDMI?

I have a Samsung NP900x400D-A02US laptop... the video connections are:
    - a micro-HDMI
    - a "monitor port" (which the manual says supports 15 pin D-Sub interface.. or you can connect VGA adapter),
I would like to buy the Dell Ultrasharp u2412M which has 1900x1200 resolution.... BUT it does not have an HDMI port.  It has:
    - a display port
    - VGA input
    - DVI-D with HDCP Input
    - USB ports (but I don't think it's the kind that will allow me to hook up thge monitor to the laptop with USB)
How the heck do I connect the 2 of these... in a way that retains the 1900x1200 resolution?    if I can't find a good way I might have to find another monitor with HDMI....
Thanks so much for your help!   It's a bit frustrating to sort through it all....
    Kathryn

I ended up finding it by item #, because I would have missed it, too.  I wasn't sure if the product image was correct until I saw  this:
Connector on First End: 1 x HDMI (Micro Type D) Male Digital Audio/Video
You got it figured out. Hooks up exactly like you said. HDMI and DVI will result in same picture quality, but as you mentioned, HDMI doesn't carry audio. They are the same, for all intents and purposes, in all other regards.
The DVI cable should have thumbscrews on each end, to help secure it at each end. The Adapter I linked has 'receptors' for the thumb screws, so the connection will be secure. The monitor should have the same 'receptors' for thumb screws. The weakest point of the connection, physically, will be the Micro-HDMI, so just be careful to not put pressure on that connection.

  • My Mini-DVI to HDMI to TV connection stopped working - tried everything

I have been using a generic mini-dvi to hdmi dongle plus a HDMI cable to connect my white intel imac to my television. It has worked great and flawlessly until very recently. Now the TV says "no signal". Screen still flashes blue when dongle is plugged in/out. Flashes blue when TV turned on/off. Nothing was changed in my setup. I have tested the mini-dvi port with the Apple Mini-DVI to S-video/video dongle (worked), tried a new minidvi-hdmi dongle (fail), tested the HDMI cable (good), and tested other ports on the TV, as well as resetting the TV to defaults. Still not working.
At this point, I was assuming it was a software problem, even though starting from a restore disk or in safe mode did not solve this. Could this be a software issue? Is my video card only doing analog signals? My TV is less than 6 months old, so I doubt its that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I usually can solve these things myself, but this time it's vexing me. Thanks.

  • How do i connect my mac mini to a kvm switch using the hdmi to dvi adapter?

I want to connect my Mac Mini using the HDMI to DVI adapter to a KVM switch cable. I have an Iogear KVM switch. The cable from the KVM switch has a male VGA end connection. I have been trying to determine the right adapter to connect the female DVI connection to the male VGA connector. I will be using the Mac mini and a PC running through the KVM switch. This is doable as the iogear switch is compatible with both a PC and a Mac. Any ideas out there? Thank you.

You would need to get  HDMI or DVI to VGA CONVERTER, not a simple adopter. The converter requires USP connection for power. HDMI is only digital while VGA is analogue.

If your MIni has a mini displayport or Thunderbolt port yu can get a les expensive mini displayport to VGA afopter.

  • I would like to extend the screen from my circa 2013 27in iMAC with thunderbolt onto my circa late 2006 imac using the DVI port on that iMAC. Is this possible? If not is there another approach I can use?

I would like to extend the screen from my circa 2013 27in iMAC with thunderbolt onto my circa late 2006 imac using the DVI port on that iMAC. Is this possible? If not is there another approach I can use? My 2006 iMAC is showing it's age but I figure I can use it as just a monitor just fine. Assuming I can connect the two together.

That older iMac isn't designed to receive video input through the mini-DVI connection. Only certain newer iMacs are able to be used as displays.
Your only options are to use something like ScreenRecycler mentioned above.

  • DVI connection on Monitor - Thunder or HDMI

    Hi,
I just got a new monitor that has a DVI connection.  Should I use the thunder port or the HDMI port?  I'm thinking with HDMI I would have to have some kind of extra converter thing right?
    Thanks

Have no idea. If this is from the Retina model then from what I hear the Res on external screens is not all that good. Many reports of blurried screens no matter what resolution or connection type is used. Try both pick the one you like the best.

Use a DVI to micro-DVI adapter if you're on an original MacBook Air, and a Mini DisplayPort adapter for a newer one.

  • I want to use my airport time capsule as a network attached storage solution, is this possible or do I need to connect a separate hard drive?

I want to use my airport time capsule as a network attached storage solution, is this possible or do I need to connect it to a separate hard drive?

The Time Capsule is by default a network hard drive, but it has no "brains" of it's own. So, it cannot function as a stand alone media server if that is what you are asking.
If you are also using the Time Capsule hard drive for Time Machine backups of your Mac(s), then there may be struggle for available space on the drive since it is not possible to partition the Time Capsule drive in a traditional manner.
If space is getting tight on the Time Capsule, it might be a good idea to connect a drive to the USB port on the Time Capsule and use that drive for your network storage needs.
