Philips Hue Go review

When Philips Hue launched I was fascinated and excited by it: a light bulb that connects to my wireless network that could be controlled by my iPhone … and change to any colour! Very cool. Hue has done well, and the line has diversified, growing to encompass other smartphone platforms and different bulb types. With Hue Go, Philips is launching a different type of product: a light that stands alone or connects with your network … but that you can take with you. I had the chance to use it for a week. Here’s what that was like.

  • Philips HUE Lights with iPad/iPhone

I've had ups and downs with my first weekend with Philips Hue lights. Overall love it with so many questions. No one at the Apple Store where I live has experience with it.
First, I downloaded the app to both my iPhone 5 and to my iPad Air. Big mistake. The Meet Hue website only accepted one device and refused to accept the iPhone device after installing on both devices (instructions MINIMAL) so I thought I had to say good-bye to geo-tracking and the portal since I don't carry the iPad routinely (besides I leave some lights on for the doggies). I tried everything to get Hue to accept the iPhone but error message was that the portal would not accept me because "the bridge linked to your account is different from your local bridge." Tried everything. The iPhone was never listed as an app in My Hue just the iPad. FINALLY,  I deleted the app in the iPhone and reinstalled the app in the iPad and all worked and I could work with the portal.
Secondly, the starter kit worked with the scene samples but not the three extra bulbs. The three extra bulbs in the adjoining bedroom could be turned on and off and the slider toggles in the app could be used to modify color. I could also select photos from my photo stream to use to drag all 6 bulbs onto to light a;l 6 bulbs and not just the three i the starter kit but i couldn't send the finished project to the website since the iPhone wasn't recognized. Again, after going back to the iPad, the portal re-opened and everything seemed to work just fine. I did notice on a few occasions that colors of the bulbs returned to default a few times.
    Questions questions questions.
This morning only two lamps would turn on with my iPad app so I turned all lamps on manually and then started the app again and all was well. I imagine it was a wifi connection issue. Still thrilled, however.

You would probably have better luck if you asked your questions on one of the Phillips forums.

  • Wanted to buy Philips Hue bulb but payment not going through

Hi, I'm from India & want to buy Philips Hue bulbs. But the payment is not going through. I have tried with 3 credits cards that i have, but didn't go through. I was able to buy the starter pack of philips hue a month ago & i got those bulbs here with the help of my friend in USA. Now i tried with same credit card but was not able to buy.
Also searched though whole site & couldn't find email id where i can send mail to customer support. Apple site takes you round & round through their site but no email id to be found.
Hope some customer support person see's this post.

    Hi Manoj,
I would recommed getting it from a European country or from the UK which has a 220-240V supply. The US bulbs are 110V and i've read some conflicting reports on their compatibility with a 220-240V power supply (India). It turns out to be expensive if you buy it from UK as compared to the US but at least there will be no doubts about it working. You may just be taking a chance plugging a US 110V directly in India but if you already have tried it then please share your experience here.
    All the best!!

    Hanoze

  • Philips Hue meets Siri

    Hello all,
I hope that I'm in the right community with my thread...
Several months ago I bought some Philips Hue Lamps for my flat. The Philips-App works fine and I really enjoy controlling the light with my iPhone.
But, there is one thing I really miss und would love to enjoy in a future iOS/Siri-Update:
Please bring us Siri-Support for the Hue Light-System.
    "Siri, lights on."
    "Siri, lights off."
    "Siri, dimm the light."
    "Siri, set light scene XYZ"
In my opinion it would be an amazing improvement to Siri.
@ the community, please support this thread so the developers take notice and bring us this improvement as soon as possible ;-)
    thx

Good news!   At Apple's WWDC 2014, they announced support for "Home Kit" which will allow you to interact with your devices through Siri.  Philips was one of the companies they mentioned they are working with to add support.  Should be available later this year when iOS 8 comes out!!

  • Philips Hue with Ipod Touch

We would like to use the IPod touch in our new bathroom. Mounted to the wall permanently.
I would like to control the Philips Hue lights to it and also a sound system.
Can anybody help me in what products I can best use?
We've got the Philips hue lights and the iPod touch already.
    Help would be HIGHLY appreciated!

Not sure I have what looking for, but sound systems are either hardwired, use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, I guess pick one. My only concern / issue would be a bathroom is a high moisture environment, not a good thing for an iPod. Just something to think about. Hope this helps, Good luck. Cheers.

  • Can I purchase Philips Hue products directly from an Apple Store without having placed an online request for personal pickup?

I'v taken a recent interest in Philips Hue products, particularly their GU10 bulbs. I was therefore wondering if it was possible to simply walk in and purchase the bulbs over the counter (assuming they have them in stock) without placing an online request for personal pickup?

Yes but I would check to see if they have them in stock

  • How to confugure airport to connect to philips hue website

how to confugure airport to connect to philips hue website

Sorry, but I'm not familar with the Hue product. From what limited information I can gather the Hue Bridge attaches to an existing router via an Ethernet connection.
To link the bridge to the meethue website the bridge would just need to be connected to the same network that your computer is connected to. Then, it would be a matter of using a web browser on the computer to go to the meethue website and login. Is logging on to this website the issue? If so, does your computer have any issues accessing other websites?
I am assuming that when you set up the Hue Bridge that all of its status lights were solidly lit ... correct?

  • Ios7 and philips hue lighting problems

hello, im not sure where to ask this question but here goes.  will apple make a roll back to ios6? i have the philips hue lights and the geofencing will not work after the iOS update? anyone on here having the same trouble?

Nope, never will they make one, The only way is to Jail break your phone. Once doing this fabulous mod you can do any thing to your phone that you want! Anything, since you will have voided your Warranty! Thats right done finished screwed amd tattooed. Not to mention you may also be the owner of a non working phone if you mess up that process!
As for the geofencing delete and reinstall, there may be an update too so it will work with ios 7. If you still have issue you will have to get a hold of the app devloper.

  • How do I return my faulty Philips Hue bulb to Apple UK

According to Philips, my bulb is faulty and I should return it to Apple UK, where I bought it from. I can't find any information on how I do this. There's no email address or physical address anywhere on Philps or Apple's site and I'm going round in circles here. This hardware is expensive and I'd like it replaced. It shouldn't break after 10 months.

After 10 months it's doubtful that the Apple Store will handle a defective third-party product, though you can call them and ask. Most likely you'll need to arrange service directly with Philips. Perhaps this web page will help:

  • IOS8: why is the airplay icon missing from embedded web video players?

Can someone explain to me why the airplay icon that used to reside in the lower right hand corner of videos played inside safari or youtube or amblify is now gone? The only way I can use airplay is to mirror my whole phone from the control center which is kind of annoying. not to mention instead of my photos screensaver passing through when using amblify with my stereo and philips Hue, my guests have to look at the control panel for amblify. This is extremely annoying, is this a glitch or is this how iOS8 is supposed to function? ?f I am reading an article on my phone and I come upon a video related to the article its a lot easier to press that button than to have to mirror the whole phone from the control center . . .

    Hi Mr Sheppard,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
In iOS 8, the AirPlay icon () should still appear in the lower right hand corner of videos you play on your iPhone. This function is not currently working as expected on your device, and I know that causes frustration.
To troubleshoot the situation, I recommend the steps in this article:
Resolve issues with AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring from iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
They can help get your iPhone back into proper working order.

  • TS1398 How to connect iPad to private router not connected to the internet?

I have an iPad 2 running iOS6.1 that will not connect to my Asus RT-AC66R router when the router is not connected to the internet.  The message I get on my iPad is "The cable for ethernet is not plugged in".  This also happens with my iPod gen 5.
I'm trying to control Philips Hue bulbs with their Zigbee bridge connected to the router, but I do not want a connection to the internet.  The Hue app works with an Android phone and an older iPhone 4 running an older iOS version without the router connected to the internet.  The newer iOS6 seems to want to have access to the internet, but having internet access should not be required for this application.
If I do connect the router to the internet, the Hue app works on my iPad2 and it continues to work for a couple of minutes after I disconnect the internet cable. Then I get the message "The cable for ethernet is not plugged in" again. I'm doing this at work where I'm not supposed to connect the router to the work network cable, else it wouldn't be an issue.

How can I install Mavericks on a Mac that is not connected to the internet?  Is there a way to copy OS 10.9 to a USB drive an then install it?
Log in to another computer, family's or friend's, and download it to a USB drive, using YOUR OWN Apple ID and then install it onto your Mac. Preferably you could use someone else's WiFi connection to directly download and install on your Mac,

  • Connecting my Philip's Hue System

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, couldn't find one specifically for this.
I am considering purchasing the Hue system. I live in a college dorm, and want to use it for when we are hanging out, and also for when I move into an apartment next semester. My question is this: I don't have a wireless router in my room (the college takes care of all of our wireless). With the bridge, it says I need to have it connected to my wireless router for it to work. Will it still work if the bridge is connected directly to the ethernet port in the wall?

You have enabled Extended desktop, which combines the two displays along an edge of your choosing. The mouse moves freely across the two displays, and can carry a window with it. You can even drop a window so that half is on each display, and it will scroll "the right way".
This visual is from the arrangement tab in displays preferences:
Note that these icons are proportional to the pixels on each display. You can re-arrange them by dragging. The white bar is the menuBar, which can be dragged to either display.

  • Philips Pico Pix PPX1020

For the last 15 days I haver been struggling to get information whether the PPX1020 projector is compatible with macs. Having downloaded the Drivers for Philips - without any support or advise - I resorted to try the product before returning it to Amazon. The only one review in Philips webside categorically stated it does not work with macs without MWARE.
For anyone interested to purchase and use this very versatile, small, and handy projector, here is what I deduced and assembled as "the Missing MacOS manual" :
The MISSING Mac Computer Manual for PPX1020 - Ignore all references in PC manual
(assembled from various sources by M. S. Miltiadou)
When the box arrives, just open it but do not connect USB cable to the computer at this stage.
To operate the Projector you need to do two things :
1.- to download the Drivers from Philips and
2.- to adjust the Displays in the System Preferences
DRIVERS :-    Just copy the link below to your browser :-
    http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?slg=en&scy=gb&mid=Link_Soft ware&ctn=PPX1020/EU )
and choose from the Drivers and download “Drivers Macintosh OS X”
Alternatively download direct by copy/paste on your browser:  ppx1020_eu_dmx_eng.hqx
It will be downloaded as “PicoPix Viewer.pkg”
Once it has been downloaded, double click to unzip the package and install
the "PicoPix Viewer" to the Applications or desktop of the computer.
On completion of the installation the computer will ask to be "Restarted"
After restart,  double click on the "PicoPix Viewer" application.
It will ask for the projector to be connected.
Connect both USBs to the computer and the mini USB to the projector.
The projector at this stage may only show image of the computer screensaver.
****          DO NOT PANIC you are nearly there   ****
DISPLAYS  adjustment:- Open the "System Preferences" and click on "Displays"
(as indicated, but ignoring the cabling description in
              “http://www.ncsu.edu/classtech/ training/mac-external-display.pdf” )
Click the box "Show displays in menu bar"
    Click "Detect Displays"
When the “Displays” icon appears in the menu bar of your desktop, pull down the menu and click on "Detect Displays" and then click on "Turn mirroring on".
This will set automatically the screen/viewer resolutions.
The projector will now be mirroring - on the wall or other screen - whatever file, picture, film or document you are showing on the desktop.
That's it folks, problem solved the “PicoPix 1020 is COMPATIBLE “ with :-
iMacs with MacOS 10.6 or later (current desktop models)
              MacMinis with 10.6,
13"MacBooks with (2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and OS 10.6
& although not tested at this stage any
Mac with 2No USBs and with MacOS 10.6 or later
    Observation when running the programme:
If the computer goes into screen saver or sleep mode, the projector reverts to the idle state and only  projects the “PHILIPS” name.
    2. For long periods of use the screen saver timing might have to be temporarily adjusted
    3. To restart the process touch any key to activate the computer and then click on the Viewer icon.
    4. If the PicoPix Viewer is in the applications folder drag its icon to the “Dock” for easy access.
Next time you click on the viewer it will be ready to go
                                            GOOD LUCK

    Hi g-wils,
I contacted my friend who has ( a US make late 2006 ) 13 inch MacBook and uses Pico Pix continuously. She set outfor you the sequence of steps she makes for operaing it:
       How I connect.....
First I have the photo I want open on the screen.
Then I click on the pico pix icon in the dock.  It says "connect the pico pix" (or something similar to those words).
I connect the two cords to the side of the computer.
Then the white light showing "Phillips" shows onto the canvas or screen or what ever I am using.
I next click on the icon on top right of menu which says- "detect displays"
(My display is usually 1024 x 640.)  When I click on "detect displays" it automatically goes to 1024 x 768 or 1024 x 768 stretched.  I move it from stretched back to the other.
If nothing changes -ie. my photo does not show - I click on the icon in the dock for pico pix again.   If necessary I repeat the process and so far it works.  However, it took several goes originally to get it going.   I am not sure which of the processes actually does it or if the order is important, but it works.
    I hope this helps you.
    Regards

  • Limited resolution when using Philips 8800 4k TV with Yosemite

I've a Philips UHD TV 8800series (55PUS8809/12) attached to my MacBook Pro Retina late 2014. I connected the screen to my laptop with Mavericks and could pick a 4k resolution from the display resolution picker. Then I updated to Yosemite. Since then I can only pick 1600x900, 720p, 1080i, 1080p resolutions. The 4k resolution is gone.
Any idea how this happened and how I can get this back ?

I have a mac ppc g4 1.42. I have received ram today in post so plan to do a full install of Leopard 10.5 and upgrade to 10.5.8.
I hope this is enough? Thanks again for the reply.
