Philips or Samsung Monitor for late Mini? HDMI or VGA?

I am back to Mac and Apple. I owned several iMac, then left Apple for Windows, but I am definetely back to Mac now! I bought the Mini i7 2.3ghz, but still need a monitor. I don't have enough money for the Apple Monitor.
I have seen two option: The Philips 248C3LHSB (moda 24 inch) and the S22B150 Sync Master Samsung VGA.
Any owner of these monitors? Also it is better to connect to HDMI or VGA with the HDMI/VGA cable that is included with the MINI.
I will receive my mini on Friday need helps
Thanks! Happy 2013

HDMI would work would be my thinking.
I have an LG monitor with TV-style tuner.  That way the "display unit" takes image processing load off of the Mac like a "just monitor" does, but has all inputs required for TV viewing.
Most TVs I think do far less image processing (just input plug conversion) and leave much of the image processing to the Mac's graphics card, making for a less-pleasant viewing experience.
But then I may be dead wrong on that last point and others are free to enlighten me so I can know more.

  • Best LED TV  to be used as monitor for Mac Mini (Late 2012 model)

    Hi All,
I am having a mac mini (late 2012 model). Now, I am planning to buy a HD LED Tv from my home. So I would like to know which one will be best suited to be used as a monitor for mac mini so that I can buy a TV which will be used as both TV and Monitor

You'll want something that's 1080p. Best to have one with HDMI input, too. Other than that, let price and warranty be your guide.

  • HDMI monitor for Mac Mini - what works well?

  • Best monitor for mac mini 2012

I have bought the mac mini 2012 model and a samsung monitor SyncMaster s22B370. The text is looking blurry. You can look at this thread. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4497508?start=75&tstart=0. So I decided to buy another monitor. Can you please suggest a monitor which is working well for you.

I use a Dell Ultra Sharp connected with a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter. This is the best setup for the least cost out there.

  • Best Monitor For Mac Mini

    Hi all,
Have a Late 2012 Mac Mini, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 with 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, and Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB.
I'm upgrading my 17" VGA monitor to a 24" HDMI and wondering what monitor has the best chance of just "working". By that I mean plugging an HDMI into the Mini, and plugging that into the HDMI input of the monitor and it outputs without any issues.
    I'm looking at either:
LG 24EN43VS Series 5ms HDI Full HD LED
    Asus VE248H
    Samsung S24D300H
    What do you think?
    Thanks!

I can only speak on the LG and Samsung. I have an LG connected to my iMac and dual Samsung's connected to my Mac Mini. Both make good monitors and it is really hard to tell if one is better than the other.
In retrospect, both the LG and Samsung models that you listed above, also have DVI-D input connections. So that, if you had a problem with the HDMI connection, you could always use the DVI connection.
On that, I can not suggest one over the other. Really your best bet is, to go to your local Electronic's retailer and look at them side by side.

but the mini doesn't fill the screen on any of it's settings.
which of the above monitor specs do i need to change, when I go looking for a replacement?
I am hoping to get the replacement from the same dealer - who will refund me the money i paid for the first one.
PS - I'm using an HDMI cable straight from the mini to the monitor

couldn't figure out how to edit my post above to add the following information..
I have another tv/monitor in the house which DOES display the full screen.. it's specs are
    32 in; LCD; HD Ready
    Product information .
    Product Product name.
    ISI-32-900-TVBU .
    Digital TV HD-Ready .
    Yes .

    Yes Resolution .
    1366x768 Widescreen.
    Supported Picture Formats.
    480i/p; 576i/p; 720p .
is it the larger Picture Full HD specs that makes the difference??
and why is the text "fuzzy" on all the settings?
and what exactly does "overscanning" do?
Sorry to be a pest but I spent an elephantful of money on this little mini and I really want it to be properly visible.
Is the whole problem that I am trying to use a TV/Monitor instead of a proper computer monitor?

  • Can I run VGA monitor from Mac Mini HDMI port?

    Hi:
I have a Mac Mini with one HDMI port and one Thunderbolt port. I have a Thunderbolt-only audio interface, so I need to connect my monitor to the HDMI port.
I bought an HDMI to VGA adapter cable for this purpose, but when I connect the monitor (Acer  x233hz), all I get is a "No Signal Present" error message.
Is there a setting I can change in order to use the hardware I have, or do I have to find another solution?
    Thanks!

You need an HDMI to VGA converter, not an adopter. Since the HDMI signal is digital only you need to convert that to analogue. You need somnethging like this

  • Monitor for Mac Mini

I am thinking about getting a Mac mini as a second computer to replace an old G3. I have a keyboard and mouse from a past G4 and would like to know what monitors are compatible with a Mac. I do not want an Apple display, but one that might be in the $150 range. I've seen Dell, but not sure it works with a Mac, also HP, Acer, any others?
    Thanks for any help.
    Pat

Most current monitors with a native resolution of 1920 x 1200 (or less) are going to work just fine with the current Minis.
Personally, I prefer to buy from Costco, since they have an excellent return policy (no time limit at present) -- but generally it is a good idea to buy a monitor from a place where it will not be difficult to return it should it not suit you.
BTW I have 17" Dell and a 24" Samsung attached to my minis.

  • TV as monitor for mac mini issue

I need some help. I've been using a 42" 1080p TV as a monitor for my Mac mini via HDMI input for years with no issue. I had set the display to 720p and never had a problem.
Tonight I bought a new 60" 1080p TV and proceeded to plug everything as normal via HDMI, turned everything on and it was working fine. I am 99% sure that when I went to display preferences it said 720p still, so I decided to try 1080p as the TV is so much larger. The TV screen went black and there was no way to revert back to 720p since I couldn't see the settings box anymore.
The TV screen is fine when using xbox and blu ray player and i've tried all the factory resets for the TV. I've hooked the old TV back up and have played around with the display preference settings and then reconnecting to the new TV @ each one but no luck. I'm not sure at this point if it's a Mac issue or not but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
    Any help is much appreciated
    Thanks
    Erin

The old TV works no problem -- at 420p, 720p, 1080i & 1080p. I've got overscan turned off now, but didn't when I first attached the new TV. Again, it's fine on the old TV with overscan on or off. No matter what I do I get this black screen of death but sound on the new TV. So that's why I'm thinking it might be the TV causing the problem. But thought I'd post here to see if anyone else has encountered the same problem.
BTW it's a Sharp Aqous 60" TV. The old TV is off-brand, Dynex.

  • Monitor for mac mini 2011

Getting a mac mini 2011 and will have to get a new monitor.  Apple too expensive. Any recommendations?  Looking into Samsung, LG.
    Thanks
    Rope

I'm using a Samsung SyncMaster SA350 with my 2011 Mac Mini and am more than happy with it. I was always an Apple snob and would onyy buy Apple monitors but since buying this Samsung monitor two weeks ago my attitude has changed. And to think that it only cost me £180 and it even works perfectly HDMI to HDMI which is one thing that a lot of people can't get to work with their expencive monitors. Oh and by the way the picture quality is perfect easily as good as any Apple monitor that I've had.

  • Using Acer LCD TV as monitor for mac mini

    Hi
I'm trying to use an Acer LCD TV (AL2671W) as a monitor for my mac mini.
The only way I can get it to work is booting the mini when connected to a different monitor then plugging in the AL2671W - this then works fine. If I boot when connected to the AL2671W I receive a No Signal message.
Any help would be much appreciated!

If you have a second computer at your disposal that can be networked to your mini, consider establishing a VNC connection between the two. You can then remotely make a resolution selection on the mini while the Acer TV is attached to the mini, even in the absence of a useable screen being displayed on the Acer. Once you have remotely made the selection of your choosing that gives a satisfactory display on the Acer, it should stay that way permenantly.

  • Dual monitor for mac mini

Trying to use two monitors with mac mini.  One with HDMI and the with HDMI Mini port.  Cannot get 2nd monitor to work

What Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter or cable are you using...?
Apple suggest using the > Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.)
Others folks and reviews, suggest that a > Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable works as well.

  • Samsung Monitor for MacBook Pro

My husband just purchased a Samsung Monitor, model # 226BW for my MacBook Pro. The instructions for the monitor only refer to Windows with no mention of Mac OS X. Can this monitor be used with the MacBook Pro? My husband researched monitors that were supposed to be compatible with MacBook Pro and this one came up as one that would be. Thanks.

That is completely normal behavior. How do you want to use the monitor?
Most of what you want to adjust is in System Preferences -> Displays. If the display is on and connected, you get a separate control window on each monitor. You can control how the external display appears to connect to the laptop screen (right, left, above, below, etc.) You can also turn the display on to "mirroring" which will show the same thing on both screens.
If you want to use the external display alone, you'll have to attach a mouse and keyboard (USB or bluetooth). Then, you can close the MBP and it'll just use the external screen.
There shouldn't be any compatibility issues at all.

  • Second monitor for Mac Mini

    Hi - some help please.
My mac mini is connected to a 27" thunderbolt display screen and runs logic pro 9.  I am trying to connect my macbook pro as a second monitor for the mixer/piano roll to be open alongside the arrange window on the thunderbolt display.   I can't get it to work.  Some help please would be appreciated

It looks like a program called Air Display can also do that:
