Philips PAC132 Video Screen fed from Classic iPod

For those interested, I have tested (successfully) a Philips PAC132 video screen fed from a Classic iPod. The PAC132 is a second video (& audio) screen for the Philips portable DVD players. The advantage to this setup is cost and weight vs a portable DVD player.
Only complication is connecting cables. I used the docking jack composite cables from Apple (w/ RCA connectors) to connect to the iPOD. The PAC132 has a triple micro jack female input. I purchased the composite cable set for the previous generation of iPods (micro jack instead of docking jack). I also need a female:female gender changer connector to connect the 2 sets of male RCA jacks.
Only surprise was I needed to change the jack arrangement to get it to work. For my cabling, I needed to hook the yellow (video) jack from the iPod to the Red RCA jack from the PAC132. The other RCA jacks are just for right/left audio channels. After the jack realignment, everything seems to work fine. Be advised that the original composite cable set (w/ micro jack) that I tried (from my video) camera did not work (maybe bad cable set).
Video/Audio performance feedback is good, but not great. Video resolution seems a bit grainy and audio dynamic range is about what you would expect with 1.5" speakers, but if you a spend ~100 days/year on he road in foreign countries, it a good solution. Total weight of the video screen is less than 1.5 lbs and the cost was around 70 GBP ($140 US). Breakdown of cost is 55 GBP for the PAC132 and 15 GBP for extra composite cable set with the micro jack from Apple. It will be substantially less if you purchase this kit in the USA.
Hope this helps & good luck

Is there any way to turn off this behaviour? (I'm going to guess the answer: it's "no", right?) I did submit this as a suggestion, but I figure maybe I should ask, in case I'm missing some way to do it.
Thanks!
No, at this time it is not possible, but perhaps you could mention this to Apple through the iPod Classic Feedback page if you wish.

  • Importing photos from classic iPod or iPhone into iPhoto

My students are bringing in photos stored on their classic iPods or iPhones to import into iPhoto for use in their multimedia projects using either iMovie or iDVD. Some iPods and iPhones are not being recognized (no icon on the desktop) by the iMac when the USB cords are connected. The screen flashes "Do Not Disconnect" on the iPod or an error box appears saying something about only being able to sync to one library. I tried my daughters iPod and when I did the sync the photos were removed from her iPod. How can I get these great images into my students iMovie or iDVD projects without wiping out the photos from their iPod. Please help Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There are some 3rd party applications for copying photos from an iPod to a Mac. See this search result at VersionTracker.com.
Also ask in the iPod and iPhone forums. I think you'll get more users there who have addressed that issue there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Transferring songs from Classic Ipod

    Hi,
Can some one tell me how to transfer the Songs/Videos from my Classic Ipod to Iphone 4?! I have connected both in the same system and using ITunes 11?
    Thanks and Regards,

With a nod to veteran poster Zevoneer...here's what you should know.
The transfer of content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, but there are third-party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. Some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Check out the web pages for more info. This is just a sample of what's available. This is an old list, so I'm not sure which of these might now be obsolete, but it's a place to start.

  • How do I get video/songs/pics FROM my iPod TO my computer?

For example... I've got a video on my iPod that I purchased thru iTunes. After it downloaded to my videos folder, I synced it to my iPod. Then (accidentally) I deleted the file from my PC... in other words, it's only on my iPod. How do I copy it from my iPod back to my PC?

The second half of this file discusses moving files from an iPod to a computer:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Videos are presumably in the "Video" rather than "iTunes" directory; you should be able to just navigate around in that directory for the file you want rather than replacing the entire directory as that article suggests (in which case you'd want to omit the "moving the directory to the desktop" steps, and so forth).

  • My old computer died, is there a way to transfer my music/video/photo library from my iPod to my new computer?

Not certain which kind of iPod it is, it doesn't say it is any kind specifically. It came in a black box that says iPod. I have had it for at least 7 years.  Before I erase everything and start over, is it possible to get the files off the iPod without the old computer in the equation? Thanks ahead of time for your assistance.

Just bringing up a known issue in the hopes it will get attention. I googled it and many people have had this problem on Macs that have integrated graphics.

Use the File -> Transfer Purchases option to transfer all iTunes purchases.

If you want to retain App data, you'll need to either copy a backup from your old computer to the new one or make one in iTunes on your new PC.  To do this, right ->click on your iPod under Devices and choose Back Up.  If you get the alert about the iPod having been synced to another PC, simply hit Cancel and then perform the previously described actions to back the iPod up.

  • Exporting Video Screen Capture from iPod Touch

I'm looking to export video of me using an app that we have developed on the iPod Touch to export as a video (in the same way that screenshots can be captured). Does anyone know if a) There's an app for that , or b) if there's a cable that I can plug into the ipod that will plug into my MacBook Pro (ie not the Griffin aircraft cable) to give me a high quality screen capture video? I'm finding that using a video camera of using the app isn't giving high enough quality for what I'm trying to achieve. Thanks.

What happens if you tap "more" under music?
Is there no video option there?

  • My iPod classic isn't recognized by iTunes. I plugged it in to update last night, but all music and videos were deleted from the iPod. Now when I plug the iPod into the USB for iTunes, it deosn't show up on the left side of the monitor. Any ideas why this

When I plug my iPod classic (only three months old) into iTunes, it doesn't show up as a device on iTunes. I plugged it in to update last nightm, but all my music was erased and now it isn't even recognized. The iPod itself shows it being connected, but nothing on iTunes. Any ideas would be appreciated. eta2359

  • HT1363 screen on my classic iPod does not show anything and cannot restore

Brand new iPod Classic and the screen has gone blank...unable to restore, some error message pops up, not pleased with this product as this is the third one in a year! Any ideas how to rectify this problem?

Connect the iPod to the computer and try to restore the iPod via iTunes.
If iTunes does not see the iPod, place th iPod in recovery mode and then try to restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
If that does not solve the problem you may have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is inorder.  I doo not like that the corner gets hot.

  • I want to use my macBook Pro 2,2 (mid 2007) to display video being fed from a Canon 5D video out into the vectorscope in Final Cut Pro 7.0.3.  Is it possible to input live video from another digital camera into the MacBookPro

I know that the built in iSight camera records video.  I want to set up a Canon 5D video camera and feed the Canon's video output into the MacBook Pro so that I can use the vectorscope in Final Cut Pro to adjust the exposure of the Canon 5D.  Basically I don't want to buy a vectorscope to have on set to make sure the picture is properly exposed and color balance is correct. (In your response it doesn't have to be the full scenario I've described.  If you can just tell me if there's a way to feed live video into the MacBook and display it on the screen and possibly record it, then I'll figure out the rest.)

    Dear Ben,
Thanks for your help. Apple and I dealt with this. It was an FCP, NOT Motion problem. As It seems you understand, we simply trashed my FCP prefs. Problem went right away.

In the future just reply to your previous post to bump it to the top.
I noticed that you did not get any replies in the iMovie forum.
have your tried just Googling for:
increase volume in an existing video
There seems to be good hits when I did that.

  • IPod Classic mp4 videos no longer copying to iPod

I've recently updated my iTunes which contains many mp4 files that I've always kept on my iPod. I connected my iPod to update the music I've added and the majority of my videos were deleted from my iPod, with a warning message saying that this device doesn't support these types of files. They are mp4 files that have worked on here before.
I've tried downgrading my iTunes because I assume that this is a problem on apple s end, but then my library isn't supported with older versions of iTunes.
I've also tried converting videos to a supposed iPod classic format (m4v 320 x 240) but that didn't work either.
I'm not sure if there is a solution, but if anyone else has experienced this problem and figured out how to solve it, I'd appreciate the help.
    Thanks!

hello Time Othy. i dont know what the problem is, but i have the same problem. All my videos will copy from i tunes on my i phone, but not on my i pod classic. maybe some one on here can help both of us...  phil..
