Phone bricked with trying to update to iOS 5
I dl iOS 5 and tried to update my iPhone with iTunes 10.5 but it bricked my computer. All I get is the Apple logo on start up, then a bar like it is going to boot but doesn't do anything and then I get a spinning wheel and repeats over and over. iTunes won't even recognize it when connected to my Macbook with Lion 10.7.2 Anyway to fix it??? HELP! Glad I didn't try to update my iPad yet as I use it all the time.
Did you jailbreak any of your devices? They have a chance of not working or upgrading properly if you jailbreak them, and there aren't very high chances of being able to restore them to default settings either.
If you jailbroke it we can't really help you, so know that first.

This is most often a severe hardware fault of the WiFi Chip. But steps to try are, Settings App > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. See if fixed. If not, Restore iPhone with iTunes on your computer. See if fixed. If not, and if there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple for resolution.

I have a 3gs, and I haven't updated it for a long time because I always have issues when I do. I tried to update the ios today, and it decided to update it to 6.1.3 instead of 7, I didn't think there would be a problem, so I clicked ok. When I came to check on my phone, itunes said there was an error with the update, and my phone was in recovery mode (plug-in sign on the screen). I looked up multiple things to try, I tried putting it in DFU mode, still itunes doesn't see it. The computer also doesn't list it under devices, however when it is plugged in the Apple Mobile Support USB Driver shows up in device manager. I have tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling, still nothing. I just want to know if there is anything else I can try. Thanks.
No, it is my phone that I've had since 2009. I just hate updating it because every time I do something goes wrong. So I put it off as long as possible. I am getting a new iphone, but I read that to have your backup transfer to the new phone, it must be a backup from the current ios.

I was trying to update my iOS to 7.1 but I can't, I have internet connection but if requires WiFi? before I can update my OS just using my phone internet but now I can't. Does OS 7.1 really require WiFi? Thanks!
The iPhone requires wi-fi to update if you try to update over the air, since the phone needs to reboot, thus disconnecting itself. You can update via iTunes and the computer, but you would not be able to tether to the phone for the internet connection, since the phone would disconnect. So, you can either update via wi-fi and the phone, or you can update with a computer that has an internet connection other than the phone.

I'm trying to update my iOS to 6.0, using iTunes (with my 4s connected via USB and WiFi is on also). I get a message that 'there are purchased items on my iPhone that have not been transferred to my iTunes library. Yet, I can't find those items! Help! I tried powering down and re-starting the iPhone (as suggested at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275). This seems to have cleared the "...not connected to the Internet" problem, and iOS 6.1 is now in the process of downloading.

s anyone else experiencing trouble turning thier phone on after trying to update to the ios 6.0.1? I cannot access my phone at all...Sounds like their was some corruption that occured during the update. Have you tried connecting it to iTunes in recovery mode and restoring it from backup (or to factory settings if from a backup fails)? Use the instructions in this article to walk you through placing your device in recovery mode.

I keep getting an error while trying to update to iOS 5. I update iTunes this morning to the lastest version so I know that isn't the problem. I have tried restarting both my computer and my phone, but contine getting "The iPhone could not be restore. An unknow error occurred (3194)." PLease help! Thanks in advance
I am also getting the error 43 when the update tries to back the phone up. Im using the latest version of itunes. This is on an iphone4, I am in the UK.
I tried deleting all of the historical backups to see if a fresh backup folder helps. It did not.
Ive tried running iTunes in 'administrator' mode on my Windows 7 machine. This made no difference.
Ive tried putting the phone in airplane mode. No difference.
I tried getting it into restore mode just to see if it worked on a iphone4. However it did not seem to want to do it.
Im not not too sure about proceeding with this update as I done want to loose any of the apps I have. (or 3 my 3 stars in every angry birds level on all 3 versions of the game!!)

I am trying to update my iOS 4 from my IPad 2 to a newer version of iOS . They have the worst instructions on how to upgrade to iOS 5. Usually Apple is really easy, but not with this. And, unlike my iPhone 5, you can't go to General settings. I have searched the App store and iTunes, but I keep getting nowhere!!
