Phone call screen icons-need assistance!

I just got my iphone 5. When I make a call my cheek will activate the icons on the phone call screen such as face time, mute, keyboard, contacts and end call. How can I get the screen to lock so that I don't hit these things? I tried the top button but it hung up on the caller. If I use the home button then I end up opening the apps on my home screen. I looked everywhere in settings and can't find anything to change this.

The screen should go dark when you hold it up to your face. Do you have a case on the phone? Or a screen protector? Something may be occluding the proximity sensor. Take everything off and see if the problem goes away. You can also try resetting the phone by pressing and holding the Home and power buttons until the silver Apple appears. If none of this helps, you may have a bad sensor.

Call screen icons

Whenever I make a call with my Style, the icons such as speakerphone, etc aren't displayed. This just started a few days ago, I didn't change any settings (unless inadvertently). Has anyone else seen this? Thanks.

Yank your battery out while your phone is powered on then slap 'er back in again.

Phone call screen

Prior to the upgrade, when I placed my phone to my ear to talk, it would "turn off" the scree. When you moved the phone away from your face, the screen would come back on. Since the upgrade, the screen will not turn off, so the phone buttons (Hold, speaker etc.)stay active.
Is anyone else having this issue, and if has been corrected please help.

Here are the iPhone 3GS sensors that turn off the screen.
If you have a case covering them, they can't work properly.
If you don't have something covering them, try to reset your phone. Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

You bought a no contract iPhone, not an unlocked one. Had you purchased a Verizon one the GSM side would have been unlocked but you have to follow Sprint's process to unlock the GSM side of their phone. If there is any way possible you need to return this phone and get your money back or sell it and use the money to buy an unlocked iPhone.

Receiving phones calls - I need earphones!

Whenever the phone rings and I answer, the person can hear me but I can't hear them unless I put in the earphones or put it or activate speakerphone. I know that the volume buttons to the side of the phone are working as I can change the volume when I have the earphones in. Please help!

What's your default call volume set to? Check under the Phone/Call Log icon, display the menu and go into Options, then into General Options. Change the Default Call Volume to 100% and see if that helps

How do I change my phone settings on my iPhone 5 so that when I make a phone call while I am on the phone call my phone stays lit up. Is the phone in a case? Try taking it out of the case. If that doesn't work, then your proximity sensor is broken. You'll need to bring your phone to Apple for evaluation.

Once I connect the phone to a power source, in a couple of minutes it's ready to roll again, and displaying a "full battery" icon.
The phone is almost always fully charged when this happens, and I don't get a crash when the phone is plugged into a power source.
Took my iphone to apple store, they informed that battery is very good and there is no need for replacement. Might be there is a problem with iphone motherboard. But they can't repair it as my 3GS crossed warranty.
Where should I go to repair this. Within 2 years...this 32GB 3GS is almost garbage for me with no support from apple. I am ready to send it to apple for repairs and pay the repair charges.
I tried everything... deep reset ... factory settings .... nothing is working... Apple staff pl. take care of your customers ...

Instructions to create custom home screen icons for websites and phone #'s

Here are instructions to create a home screen icon for a phone number or a website. This is very cool!
1. Go to http://webclip.us on your computer (not on your phone) and click on "create now".
2. In icon label, type what you want to call your icon.
3. In URL, type either the URL of the website you want to link to, or for a phone number link, type http://##########.tel.QLNK.net (where ########## is the 10 digit phone number you want).
4. In icon file, click the arrow to browse to the photo or image you want the icon to display.
5. Enter the security code shown, then click "upload now". You will get a "webclip number".
6. Now on your iPhone in Safari, go to http://webclip.us and enter the webclip number your computer just generated, and tap Go.
7. Use the plus sign to add the icon to your home screen, change the name to whatever you want, and you will have a cool little icon with the photo you uploaded!
If you used the phone number option, when you tap the icon on your home page, it will launch Safari and then pop up "Call" and "Cancel" buttons to call that phone number directly. If you used a website URL, it will launch that website just like a regular webclip.
So I now have an icon with my husband's face on it that dials his phone number. Very cool!!

Edit to make it clear that I don't take credit for creating this procedure - I simply found a reference to them in another post and posted the step-by-step here because it worked so well for me.

Do you know if this requires the 1.1.3 upgrade.. I got all the way through it until the end where it would not give me a plus sign or a way to add it.. wondering if it can be done with 1.1.2 thanks!

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Network activity icon turns when making a phone call

Not sure if this is normal or not, but when i make a phone call the network activity icon scrolls for a few seconds. this icon is the one to the right of the 3g letters at the top of the screen. Is this normal? I'm used to seeing this move when checking email or surfing the net but never when just making a call.

I had the same problem just one hour ago. I could not hear the person I's talking to unless I put it on speaker.
I restarted my iPhone 4 and still the problem was there.
And it automatically started working again in one hour.
I would suggest to shake the iPhone a little and try to reboot and see if it's helping.
