Phone does not appear in my iTunes window

When I connect my iPhone to my Mac via USB, nothing happens. It does not appear in iTunes and I cannot sync. It also does not charge the battery. This is a new problem, since upgrading the software on the phone to 3. My cable and USB port are fine -- I can use the USB ports fine for other devices, and the cable works if I charge the phone via an AC adaptor. What is causing this problem, and what can I do? I have restarted the computer as well as the iPhone. Can't think of other tricks to fix this.

If you haven't already done so, I would try downloading the current iTunes version and re-install it over the existing - no need to delete iTunes first.

  • My device does not appear in the iTunes window.  Instead a separate window opens so I cannot sync

My device does not appear in the iTunes window.  Instead a separate window opens so I cannot sync my device.  I have tried with both my iPad, my iPod and my iPhone.  In each case a separate window opens showing that it is fully connected to the computer, but it does not open in iTunes.
I have followed previous instructions to stop then start the device manager.  I have even uninstalled then reinstalled iTunes, but no luck.  Can someone help??

    Hello Linda Lev,
It sounds like Windows recognizes that your devices are conneted, but iTunes does not. I recommend the troubleshooting from the article named:

  • I am trying to set up Sharing amongst several computers on my home network.  I have followed all the setup instructions but after completion Sharing does not appear in my iTunes window (on any of the computers I've set up).  There is no explanation why.

I have been trying to set up Sharing between two computers on my network. I did this once and it worked.  However, when I try to set this up now the Sharing feature does not appear on the left side of the iTunes window (on either computer).  There is no explanation as to why not.  Is this a configuration problem, a network problem or what?   Can it be fixed?  I have tried turning sharing off and back on on both computers but to no avail.  What am I missing?  Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hey innerev2003,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If, while searching through your past purchases, items are unavailable to download and show a "Purchased" button, they are still on your computer. It may be best to search your iTunes library by clicking Music, then use the search bar at the top right.
If you are completely sure the items are no longer in your library, try signing out of the iTunes Store, and then back in.

  • My phone does not appear in itunes

Help!!!  My phone does not appear in itunes.  The screen is frozen connect to itunes.  What do I do?

Try reinstalling iTunes. Make sure you are downloading the correct 32 bit or 64 bit version depending on your operating system.
If this doesnt work, try using a different USB slot, perhaps the one your using is faulty? Or perhaps a different cord.

You've connected the iPad via cable to your computer, and your computer's iTunes is up-to-date ? If it's icon isn't showing then try one of these troubleshooting pages :
PC : iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
Mac : If you don't see your connected device in iTunes for Mac - Apple Support
If the iPad is disabled then you'll need to reset the iPad back to factory defaults, after which you can restore to your backup

  • My 6th generation nano does not show in the iTunes window.

When I open iTunes my nano does not appear in the library window and my computer does not recognize the device, so it's also not synching. My library is intact and I've updated both the iTunes software and downloaded updates for Windows 7.  I even uninstalled and re-install iTunees.
The only thing I haven't done is changed cords.  I'm using the cord from a 1st generation ipod.  I received the 6th generation ipod as part of Apple's replacement program.
Everything worked fine the last time I synched a few months ago and when I recharged the ipod last month.
Does anyone have additional tips to fix this?

I tried all this, I mean should I reset all setting?
Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    that is restart.

  • SIM card inserted in the phone does not appear to be supported?

I have an Iphone 4 and I got the email form ATT telling me I could unlock it, after I sent them a request. I did all the steps and the "Congratulations, your Iphone is unlocked" message did not show up in Itunes. Instead, it went to the "The SIM card inserted in the phone does not appear to be supported. Only compatible SIM cards from a supported Carrier may be used to activate Iphone." I have a Tmobile SIM card that I want to activate my phone under, but as of right now, I don't think my Iphone 4 is unlocked.
I tried the Apple support guide to this message, but there isn't a restore button for this. What should I do?!

    Contact AT&T.

  • Music on my phone does not show all the iTunes artwork, even after doing a backup restore, eliminating all music and restoring

Music on my phone does not show all the iTunes artwork, even after doing a backup restore, eliminating all music and restoring  I have an iphone5 64 syncing about 8000 songs, so updating all is a time consuming, and now maddening process. Never had a problem before iOS 8. Someone (hello Apple) needs to develop a utility to help manage artwork recovery.

  • HT201272 Downloaded a track does not appear in my iTunes library or iTunes Computer folder (Windows XP)

A downloaded track does not appear anywhere in my computer, but I can't download it again as my iTunes purchased list states it's already downloaded!  I haven't had this problem before so any ideas please.  Thanks

I also have additional issues with this same issue. The songs appear on my iPhone and iPads via iTunes Match, but I do not see them in my iTunes before I manually update the match. iTunes downloads them somewhere as I have automatically download new songs feature activated, but they do not show up in my library. After updating the Match, I am able to manually download them from the cloud.

  • TS1363 1st generation iPod shuffle does not show up in iTunes (windows 7)?

1st generation iPod shuffle does not show up in iTunes on my Windows 7 PC (but shows up in my computer).  Tried all the Apple trouble-shooting steps (some several times).  It used to work with Windows 7 on this PC.  Are there other steps I can try?

I'm not sure what "all" means, unless you state them, so if you have not done so already, you should use this procedure to reset the iPod shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Then, shut down your computer (power off) and start it up, with iPod shuffle NOT connected.  Run iTunes.  Then, try connecting the iPod shuffle again.
Since this is a first gen iPod shuffle that IS recognized by the computer (so it's probably not a bad USB connector), you can also try using the iPod Reset Utility
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1238
This is for the first and second gen iPod shuffle only, and does a lower level reset than using a normal Restore in iTunes.

  • HT1238 ipod shuffle 2nd generation does not appear in Reset Utility window.

Hi there! I'm seeking some advice for repairing an old ipod shuffle.
My mom's 2nd generation iPod shuffle suddenly will not appear on her computer. She is using windows vista (sad face). I ran all the reccommeded troubleshooting suggestions, but still can't repair the disk.
When connected to the original computer (windows vista), the charging light comes on but the disk does not appear anywhere on the computer. I ran the diagnostics and it apparently has the most updated software, but there is another unspecified error.
When I tried to run the repair suggestions on my own computer, i can't get the disk to show anywhere....the charging light will not even come on.
Any other suggestions I might have overlooked?

but there is another unspecified error.
    What is that error?
Are you sure she has a Shuffle? You mentioned a Sad Face.. that would indicate that the iPod has a display, which a Shuffle does not.
