Phone extension wiring fault

i have a problem with my phone extension no dial tone and lots of noise. I've checked the phone through the master socket and its fine, so the problem must be with the extension wiring. I started to check the wiring from the master socket, the first thing I noticed was that on pin 2 there was one white and blue wire and on pin 5 it was the same I assume that this should not be the case and would swop the polarity on one of the extensions, Is this the case and would it contribute to the problem? It had been wired this way by the BT engineer who installed the master socket who I presume would know what he was doing. Anyone got any suggestions before I start swapping wires around?

if the noise is still there try using 2 filters connected to each other and the hub connected to the first filter and the phone in the second filter

  • Query re dect phone and wired phone on same line

Quite long winded but wonder if someone could help please.
I had a dect phone plugged into the master socket. Due to working from home and need for better functionality than the dect phones could give me I bought a Converse 2300 wired phone and plugged it into the master socket.
I then moved to dect base unit to an extension socket in another room.
The dect phone when plugged into the master socket always showed caller ID.
The Converse which is now plugged into the master socket also shows caller ID.
However, I'm having a couple of problems with the dect phone I've relocated to the extension socket.
Firstly, I get a dial tone on the dect phone but when I try to dial a number I hear the key tones but it then just goes back to the dial tone rather than actually dialling the number.
Secondly, caller ID is not displayed on an incoming call on the relocated dect phone - instead the screen just says 'External'. Called ID is however displayed on the wired Converse phone.
I suspect there's a setting somewhere on one of the phones but I can't for the life of me work it out. Or do dect and wired phones not work together on the same line?
Any advice would be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, it sounds like there could be a wiring fault with the extension socket, there would not he any settingsbon a phone that would solve the problem. Is there broadband on the line? If so try changing the ADSL filter.

  • Internal wiring fault and bt visit.

Not sure what the best solution might be . I have an internal line fault. Mild noise on line ok for voice but wrecking my bb. Via the test socket all is well. However I'm due soon to have fibre on my exchange. I had wondered about waiting till then and if I order Inf2 bt will install a new filtered socket anyway on my master socket I suspect will cure the problem. (I have a the split style socket and micro-filters atm.) If I call Bt out for the fault before are they likely to fit a new master filter as their solution? Seems a waste of a call out fee if so.

if the noise margin increases when you connected to the cleaner test socket connection then that is ok as that gives more scope for connection speed.  as noise margin reduces to normal 6db you normally would see an increase in your conenction speed
sounds more likely a faulty faceplate ( don't go faulty often but do go faulty) or bad extension wiring
Prior to the original fault SN was 24/6-7 then I went to 11/10 for a week or so with DL speeds of 0.35Mb before I was irritated enough to run some CAT5E from the test socket to the PC. Initially after switching to the SN went to 24/5 and the DL to 6+Mb for a few days but post a 16hr power cut its been at 24/12 for 3 days and back to 4Mb. Hard to be sure what is causing what.

  • Extension Wiring Interference

Hi guys I posted a few months back about poor connection speed and was advised to move our HomeHub from an extension socket and plug it directly into the master socket. Immediately this solved the problem and we were able to get the maximum speed achievable on ADSL.
Recently our exchange was upgraded to 21CN WBC and several weeks later our line was moved over to ADSL 2+. After a week or so for the initial settling in period, our latency type was changed to interleaving and our line attenuation rose slightly. The line speed settled down at around 21,300 Kbps Downstream and 1,276 Kbps Upstream. Given that our Downstream Line attenuation had only risen to 9 dB I was suprised to see that we weren't able to sync at the maximum of 24,000 Kbps as expected through using the 'Kitz Maximum ADSL Speed Calculator'.
I decided to investigate the issue and set out to unplug any unused extension wiring in the house. I was only able to locate one unused extension wiring and after unplugging it, our HomeHub self rebooted and our sync speed changed to 22,914 Kbps Downstream/1,276 Kbps Upstream with the Downstream Line attenuation dropping down to 8.5 dB. This would suggest that the extension wiring that I unplugged was causing some sort of interference. However, I thought that this was not possible, as a few months back, whilst resolving an external line fault, a BT Openreach engineer installed a brand new master socket for us (the one with the BT Openreach logo) which is supposed to automatically separate the extension wiring from the socket to prevent this sort of interference.
Can anyone explain why this is able to happen and if so whether we would benefit from installing a BT i-Plate, even though we have a master socket (the one with the BT Openreach logo) which is supposed to do the job of the i-Plate.

Okay, so for comparison I have just plugged back in the extension wiring (which has caused a disconnection) and here are the HomeHub stats:

  • To do testing from IP Phone extension: UCCE & CVP

    Hi All;
I need to do testing from an IP Phone extension, so to add route pattern to direct the number for the gatekeeper? Or to add routing point to be mapped for the JTAPI link?
Note: the call manager is registered on the Gatekeeper.
My Network VRU type is 5 (which is used for the CVP Call Server) and I have VRU network type of 7 to be used for the GW Browser.
    Regards
    Bilal

You have to create a trunk on the call manager  (Gatekeeper controlled) to point to the gatekeeper , the gatekeeper  should have a zone prefix that points the route patterns to the CVP  servers.
    *  In that case, I will add in the CUCM a pattern that will be sent for  the Gatekeeper (if I dialed that pattern, then I will be routed for the  GK) and the GK will route me for the CVP because there is zone prefix  that points the route patterns to the CVP Servers, correct?
    Yes , this is correct
If  you are configuring the sending back to originator  feature on the CVP  for the calls , then you have to do a another route pattern for the  label configured in the ICM to point to either the GK (trunk is GK  controlled) or you can point it directly to the VXML gateway.
    *  How can I know that I have this feature because I migrated the  configuration from the production and I am not sue if it is used or not?
Also, this route pattern to be done where? At the VBAdmin or where?
Ok, listen , type showall to find all the configuration on the CVP , you will find in the bottom one row called The value of SigDigits is ??? , if the number is 0 then it is not activated , if 1 it is activated .
If you want to activate it , your design should have ingress and vxml gateways at the same router , otherwise this will not work because if you enable it , it will send the call to the originator which normally will be the ingress gateway.
By  the way: there is not document for the VBAdmin? If I am typing a  command and I need the help to help me by completing it (normally in  cisco, I use the '?" or the Tab or double Tab), what to be used with the  VBAdmin?
As geoff told you , type mhelp and you will get all the commands (show and set).
Really  I searched in the IPCC and CVP documents (administration,  configuration, installation) and did not find sendtooriginator for H.323  but I found for SIP, so from where I can know if they used this feature  or not?
What exactly do you need so we can help you , there is no sepcific configuration guide because it is all depenedant on the setup, as i said , use the mhelp command to detarmaine the commands that you need.
How to do exclude for the IP address of the subscriber?
on the VBAdmin type SetExcludeIP and list the IP's you need to exclude , i have done it before without it and it was ok , just make another route apttern on the call manager that the pattern is label! and point it to a VXML gateway , it should be enough.
Let me know if this helps.

  • How does HTC Droid recognize phone extension?

I recently traded in my old Blackberry for an HTC Droid Incredible 2 and am using DejaOffice App to manage contacts, calendars, etc. I use Companion Link Express as an add-in to sync between Sage ACT 2010 contact database and DejaOffice as prescribed by the professional.  Scared yet?  The problem is the Droid phone does note recognizes the default phone extension symbol (semicolon symbol and sees the number as an international call. I spoke to DejaOffice tech support and they tell me to contact Verizon to ask them what symbol my Droid uses to recognize extension number.   Thanks, atmdad

I appreciate your inquiry. I would suggest trying a comma. A lot of Android phones use a comma for extensions.

  • Phone extension number

How do you add a phone extension number to existing contact?

Go into contacts and choose the contact you want to add detail to.
If you select the number you do have for your contact, you can bring up many more options. Home, work, main etc etc. You can simply add the ext number to one of these fields, and then you could see it normally in contacts
You'll also see a green circle next to ''add field''. You can make a whole new field to add data to if you wish
    Good luck

  • Phone Extensions in Contact Names?

    Hey guys!
Silly question, I have just rolled out Lync 2013 and havent enabled any phone integration yet, so most of my users are using Lync for im, meetings, video conferences etc, and we just moved off of an old depreciated IM client
However, one thing the old IM client allowed me to was publish the shone extensions for the users next to the name so that users could quickly reference the user contact to see their phone extension, is there any way to do this in Lync 2013? currently just
the users first and last name is displayed, i would love to know if there is some way to have the phone extension visible within the contact name
any help would be appreciated as always!

    Hi Brett James,
The telephone numbers are stored in Active Directory phone attributes directly in RFC3966 complaint formats (+E.164) will be displayed by the Lync Client. The number will appear both on the contact call menu and the contact card details.

  • Phone extension rewiring - ADSL

    Hello all,
I must have read 500 posts on this subject on this forum today but I really needed to start my own thread as I just cannot get this sorted and it's driving me mad.
I live in a flat and we had an Openreach engineer out last week to set up a BT line so we can have O2 Broadband. Helpfully the clowns that built the house put the master socket inside our airing cupboard. This is absolutely no help to me as there isn't a power socket in there, so in order to get the router working I'm running an extension lead around the corner and into the cupboard - useless.
We have 3 (that I can find) extension points in the flat. None of these worked so today I pulled apart our NTE5 (not the ADSL one. Just one front regular socket) socket to wire them up. I found a sheathed white cable inside as exected. All extension points were already cabled so I just had to cable in the NTE5. I used 2,3 and 5 and later just 2 and 5.
    Does not work.
The rear of the NTE5 has the usual A and B wires coming from outside but there are also a whole bundle of other coloured wires with them just coiled up doing nothing - is this usual?
The socket that I want to plug the router into is double wired so I am guessing it feeds the other extension 10ft to its left.
At the moment the closest socket to the master is wired up using only points 2 and 5 and so is the master.
I plug in the router with filter and get nothing.
    Any ideas?
I can post pictures if my long winded explanations are useless.
    Thanks all!
    Jake

    Hi,
First TEST ... trust no one ... Goto the MAIN SKT that has the PAIR (2 wire) from BT from the outside to the property, and plug in a standard wired phone, any old one will do, no filters, nothing... if you have dial tone ... listen carefully for a high pitched "hiss" thats the Broadband signal .. no hiss, you aint got broadband even if they say so ..
Step 2. Get your router and configure it with your adsl login account, then unplug and get an extension lead (power) and plug in a FILTER and connect your router, depending on the type, it should... have a DSL light ... again if NO DSL then despit what your told ... no Broadband.
Third option is you have BRoadband, and DSL service is at "showtime" ... your login details MAY be not set despite provider say so ..
Basically a couple of tests to eliminate external faults ... happy to work with photos :-)

  • Using phone extensions or more than 1 phone socket...

    Dear All,
Your help would be much appreciated.
I am currently with o2 broadband and am looking to go with infinity but I need the following question answered:
My master socket is in the living room which the infinity router and modem will be installed. I have a satellite receiver in the living room which needs Internet connection through an Ethernet cable. Now I have my PS3 upstairs in my room which has no phone line socket so I am using a telephone extension lead from another room next to mine which has a phone socket into my room, to connect my PS3 hard wired to the modem which I bring upstairs to my room to play my PS3 on, how would this work with the set up of infinity router and modem?
BT say they can only enable one phone socket in the house which is the master socket. So the ps3 will have to be connected wireless but for online gaming wireless connections are not that good.
Is it possible to have more than 1 phone socket enabled? Master socket and the upstaires bed room socket with a phone extention to my room?
Or can I get a new phone line socket installed into my room?

If you are not using the telephone extension for any telephone appliances eg for just the PS3, why not use a long ethernet cable (or Homeplugs/Wireline adaptors) from one of the routers ethernet sockets instead?
For instance you can find such cables here.

  • Phone Extension Which Pair?

    Hi,
BT Engineer has just set up BT Infinity, but he had to fix some faulty wiring to get it done.
Because of that, one of the phone sockets in the house doesn't work.  I have just moved in, so I'm not sure whether it ever worked or not.
The engineer told me that I needed to know that he "used the organge pair" the current wiring is "orange, orange, white", and that is how it needed to be set up for the extension to work.
I have looked at the wiring inside that extension socket and it is currently wired
    1. Blue with short white bands.
    2. Not connected
    3. Orange with short white bands.
    4. White with short blue bands
    5. White with short green bands.
    6. Green with short white bands.
The cable white with short orange bands is not connected.
Based on what the BT Enginner said, can someone help me with which wires to connect to which pins?
    cheers

I had presumed the engineer said what colours he had connected at the Mater Socket and all that was required was to connect the same colours at the extension socket.  If you unscrew the faceplate of the master Socket you can see what wires are connected to what terminals.  I presume you will find that only terminals 2 and 5 have been used at that end.
I could be wrong; the extension that does not work could be wired as a spur from another extension.  In that case you just need the same wire connected to terminals 2 and 5 at each end.

  • CUCM SQL to view Logged in Phones (extension mobility)

    Hi all,
is there any SQL statement, showing me all Phones where people are logged in with their extension? There is a function like this on Device - Phone scrolling down to Extension Information and there is a field called "Current Device Profile", but I'll need this with all phones in a specific device pool.
    Anyone got an idea?
    Thanks in advance
    regards
    Marc

    HI MArc,
whenever someone logs in the extensionmobilitydynamic table is updated. Here's a SQL command i use to list login times etc. This will least everyone i.e not by device pool but should give you enough to go on.
run sql select u.userid, d.name,v.name e.logintime device from extensionmobilitydynamic e
    inner join enduser u on e.fkenduser = u.pkid
    inner join device d on e.fkdevice = d.pkid
    inner join device v on e.fkdevice_currentloginprofile = v.pkid
its been formatted for easier reading so needs to be entered as one long line of txt.
    Cheers

  • Use Cisco Jabber to register the phone extension of UCCX agent

I have a Contact Center Express Implementation (v.8.5.1) and has always worked perfectly with Cisco IP Communicator.
Right now Cisco Jabber is being implemented in the company but I presents an issue with the Cisco Agent Desktop (CAD) of the Contact Center Express agents.
They have registered their telephone extension in the Cisco Jabber but when starting your CAD, an error indicating that the connection fails for a configuration error, to associate the phone's with user ID of JTAPI provider (obviously this is done, because the IP Communicator is the same extension, the same user and it works perfectly).
    Thanks in advance.
    Ernesto González

Hi Graham. Thanks for your answer.
I configure only the Jabber for Windows as Agent extension.
Now, the issue is different, the CAD show me a new error: "You can't connect because the phone is enabled for IPv6. IPv6-enabled phones are not compatible with CAD". (view the following image...).
    Any workaround for this issue?.
    Best Regards.
