Phone 'forcing' you back to the Home Screen

I've been using my phone the past three days, and myself as well as a friend have had the same problem, and it's software related.
You will be doing something, just now I was flipping through albums in cover flow, and you get sent back to the home screen. You're not touching the home button, not even near it, and you're forced back to the home screen.
I did this, went back to the iPod, and was forced back again. No matter what I did I was instantly pushed back to the home screen until I turned off the phone and turned it back on.
This happens intermittently and seems to be something software related... it's either that or something with the 'Home' button...
Anyone else experiencing this?

I think this means that the app crashed. I've had this happen multiple times in Safari and Google Maps.
To be sure, do this: try a sync of your phone with iTunes, and if iTunes asks you if it's okay to send diagnostic info to Apple, then that's what happened.
If iTunes does not ask you if it's okay to send diagnostic info to Apple, then it's a different problem.
This was also a big problem when the Intel-based Macs first came out, and it has gotten much better. Now we again have the apps compiled for a new platform, so there will be a few months of Apple getting the bugs worked out.
I would bet that stabilizing these bugs will be a very high priority for Apple, and I bet we will see a software update for the iPhone within a few weeks.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Phone keeps cutting back to the home screen

    Hi
I was just wondering if anyone could help me, since last night my phone on most of my apps keeps cutting out and taking me back to my home screen. I cannot access my messages, calls, setting ect.. I can open things such as Facebook, Twitter and eBay but as soon as I click to type something on them they cut out as well. My lock screen button is broke so I can’t turn off my phone off and as said before I cant access my settings to update my phone if needed.
    Thanks

  • My iPhone 3G phone button no longer works. If I push it I get a black screen for a few seconds then back to the home screen. Everything else is ok. Any ideas how to fix this?

The phone button on my iPhone 3G no longer works. Everything else on the iPhone works fine. I can receive incoming calls. I can make calls directly from Contacts. But if I press the phone button I get a blank white screen for a few seconds then it goes back to the home screen. I've tried the hard reset and also restoring orignall settings via iTunes but keep getting the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thank you, Neil.

Thanks for the advice but I've tried resetting network settings and also the reset by pressing home and sleep buttons until getting the Apple logo. Still have the same problem. To be clear (because I mistakenly typed black instead of blank in the title to this thread): If I press the phone button I get a BLANK WHITE screen for a few seconds then it goes back to the home screen. I doubt it's the SIM card as I can receive calls and make them directly from contacts. What I can't do is view my favourite numbers or missed calls or access my voicemail, i.e. all the things you get to via pressing the phone button.

  • When using my phone it sometimes will go back to the home screen

When I'm using my phone it will go back to the home screen !! Annoying help

Your first post was that when trying to take a photo or going online it would go back to the display screen.
I would first go to settings to general to reset all settings. If this does not resolve the issue you will then want to back up all data and then restore device back to default settings. Obviously a software issue.

Restore the phone as a new device. There is probably something that was corrupted on your phone during the update and has been passed via the backup to the replacement phone.  If the corruption/problem is contained in the backup, you'll need to re-sync your data, and re-install your apps manually. Restoring the backup again will only bring the problem back with it.
If restoring it as new does not fix it, then make an appointment at the genius bar.

  • When I try to activate an app that was purchased on my IPad it goes to that app's screen that immidately goes back to the Home screen

When I try to activate an app that was purchased on my IPad it goes to that app's screen that immidately goes back to the Home screen. What can I do to fix it?

These are the general things that you can try to get your apps to work again. But the first thing you can try is to download any free app - that seems to reset something. See if your apps will work after that.  If not try these things listed.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Close all apps. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If none of these things work, you may have to delete the app and install it again. To delete the app, tap and hold down on the app icon until it wiggles. Then tap the X that appears on the icon to delete it. Restart your iPad as described above and download the app again.

  • After I open and read an email how do I get back to email.  I am closing the open email then having to go back to the home screen and then reopen the mail app.  There has to be a better way.

After I open and read an email using my mail app, how do I get back to the email app to open an read others.  I am closing the email open, going back to the home screen and reopening the mail app every time.  There's got to be a better way to do this.

If you are using the iPad in portrait mode, swipe from left to right in order to bring up the preview window of your emails again.

  • When I'm working on another window, it will kick me back to the home screen

when I'm working on another window, it will kick me back to the home screen every 15 seconds or so. It's like when it check email or something, it goes to the home screen.

This problem is often caused by "Google Drive." If it's installed, I suggest you remove it according to the developer'sinstructions. You may need to boot in safe mode to do so. Back up all data before making any changes.
If you use Google Drive and don't want to remove it, then try deselecting the option in its preferences to show a status icon. According to reports, that may be enough to stop the Finder from crashing.

  • Keep getting kicked out of my iPad 2 apps back to the home screen!

When using my iPad 2 no matter what app I'm using it will just kick me back to the home screen! Sometimes, right away sometimes after 5 to 10 minutes! Please help. If it matters I bought it boxing day.

Try all of these basic steps and see if any of them help at all.
Close all apps and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button. Restart the iPad.
For Safari specifically ..... Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • TS3274 Can't open "About" in the General function; after a nano second it defaults back to the home screen;

How do I access the "About" function?
What causes my iPad to default back to the home screen without allowing access to the "About" function?

Here are a couple of things to try.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.
You can also try quitting the settings app and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If neither of those things help, you may have to restore the iPad in order to get the settings app to function properly again.
