Phone is grayed out

my new iphone 5 is grayed out alot.but when it does work the network takes a while to show up.aswell as this the wifi keeps dropping on phone.im wondering if it is a hardware problem?i have reset network settings and restored phone alot etc...

If no change after resetting network settings and after restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup, it is likely a hardware problem.

    By chance, are you running a Mac with Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.2?  If so, I noticed something similar.... I now have my phone number and email address for use in Facetime and Messages.  Maybe your user friends have not upgraded to iOS6, because both addresses only show in iOS I believe.  iOS 5 only shows one or the other address.

    Not sure what you mean by "it won't let me send with my number using iMessage"?
    Again, that is how it looks normally:
    The first number you see listed above is the number of the iPhone that iMessages is set up on. The second number is another iPhone number that I manually entered.
    You can see that the first number is greyed out (as it should be).
    Does your number have a check mark next to it?
    If not, then that is the issue, not that it is greyed out.
    If the number does not have a check mark next to it, then sign out of iMessage by clicking on your Apple ID at the top of the screen under Settings>iMessages, and then sign back in again. Do the same with FaceTime if that is the issue there.

  • Phone number grayed out but has a check mark next to it?

    Ever since I updated to iOS 8, I've had this problem with my iMessages were when I go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive I notice that my phone number is grayed out and has a check mark next to it, but with my email address which I use for iCloud, it has a check mark next to it and it isn't grayed out like my phone number. I've already tried resetting my network to get my phone number to ungray but that didn't work.
    So far from what I've seen a lot of people have been having this problem. Has anyone found the right way to fix it? I'm also having this issue with my Facetiming too. Thank you.

    Ok, I just did what you suggested. I signed out for both, restarted my phone using the home and on/off button, then signed back in. Now it's at a step where it says the following:
    iMessage
    People will message you using your email address. What would you like to use?
    Then it says my phone number and my email. My phone number is checked and grayed out still and I can tap on my email to check it off or check it off. What should I do at this step? Not check my email address?

    My option to unlock phone with Touch ID started not working 2 weeks ago. At the time I was running iOS 8.1.2. I then upgraded to 8.2 and now even 8.3.  I have verified CC info and all security questions and answers for my account. I have hard reset phone and just turned off and on a number of times. I can add fingerprints and delete finger prints. I have changed passcode and even tried using a not simple passcode. Do I need to call or visit Apple?  What other options have I not tried to be able to unlock phone using Touch ID?  Thanks

  • How do I delete my old iCloud ID when it is "grayed" out

    My iCloud ID is for my old email address that is no longer used as my Apple ID and has been deleted from the account due to it being my old work email.
    When I started with my brandnew iPhone 5 yesterday it automatically linked my old iCloud ID and will no longer work until I type in the passowrd
    As it is not linked to my apple ID there is no passowrd, but I cannot delete the ID from my phone and use cloud until it is typed in.
    where the iCloud ID is in my phone is "grayed" out so I cannot delete it.
    Any Ideas?

    Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account.

  • The apps on my iPhone 6 are grayed out and say "Waiting-" when i click on them.

    I just upgraded to an iPhone 6. I backed up all my apps from my old iPhone 4 to my iTunes on my computer (MacBookPro). I then plugged in the new iPhone 6 and did a restore using the files from my old iPhone.
    Everything transferred over perfectly but now, about half the apps I purchased on my old phone are grayed out. When I click on them they say "Waiting…" but nothing happens. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

    I am having the same problem. I have many dark icons that say waiting. I can't do anything with them. I can't even delete them because they do not get the little x on the upper right corner like the light apps get. I do not know what to do. If I call Apple they will charge me for support as my phone is over a year old.

  • Bluetooth PAN (Join network on [...] grayed out)

    for some strange reason without any identified order of actions or specific circumstances time to time i have an option Join network on (my phone name) grayed out. logout/login would not solve this issue, though restart solves it - i can connect again and use it ok. any ideas?

    This happens for me too, and is frustrating because otherwise I would just about never have to restart my Mac.
    I'm using an HTC TyTN and it seems to happen most often if it was connected to the PAN and I just let my Mac go to sleep. When it wakes up I get the dialog telling me that my connection unexpectedly ended and the "Join Network on" goes grey. A restart is the only way to cure it, stopping Bluetooth and restarting doesn't help.
    Note this doesn't happen every time it falls asleep, but the odds are close to 1 in 5 and it gets me worried that I'm going to have to restart everytime I see the pulsing white light.

    I am so relieved to hear that I am not the only one experiencing this! However, I am sorry to hear you are going through this as well. Lucky for me I am upgrading to a 5s which will be sent to me on Wednesday.     If your phone service is disconnected, it's not your number any more.
    If you "just got AT&T", how can it be disconnected?

    Following Contact Customer Care did not lead me to chat option that I could spot. I'm sorry if I missed a link that is obvious to everyone but me. Maybe I just need that link pointed out to me more vigorously.
    By the way, this link, What are my contact options? has a chat option, but it is grayed out (at least for me) so that's a dead end.
    So, please explain to me (like I'm a bewildered child) how to get to chat support. I am unable to fill in logical gaps by myself. :-/

Incidentally, I gave her a detailed description of my deactivation problem too. Shivangi responded by directing me to use the same link that goes in circles!     I am unable to get online or phone support from Adobe. I need to deactivate CS4 from a dead computer. Adobe online help is defective because it puts the user into an endless loop making it impossible for me to find a solution, and impossible to get support.     I own a copy of CS4 that is marooned on dead computer. Consequently, I can not deactivate that copy. I know that a single license for Adobe CS4 only lets me install the application on two computers, of which I can only use the application on one computer at a time.

    1) Removing all music from phone and resynced to iTunes PC library.
    2) Erased phone and restored from back up
    3) Erased phone and started as a new iPhone
    4) Reformated the music files in my library that weren't playing
    5) Deleted songs from iPhone and computer and re-imported CDs
    6) Tried to redownload my COMPLETE MUSIC LIBRARY from iCloud.
    7) I have also turned it off and turned it back on several times
    8) I tried syncing through my macbook (only moved partial songs to it to see if it would even work).
    9) I have tried to get Siri to play them, did not work.
    10) All music does play fine on my iPod Touch 3rd (iOS6 i think) gen and iTunes on Mac and PC
    11)  I added a CD to my roommates iTunes and it plays on their iPhone 5S but not mine.
    After all of these things it is now WORSE!!!  My iTunes purchased songs are now experiencing the same issue along with some (not all) of the original music files that were skipping and grayed out.  My conclusion is i have no clue at this point!  I have done everything i have found online in EVERY discussion, i have spent over 60 hours trying to get this to work and i am asking myself, i bought this product why am having to fix this when it worked just fine on my iPod touch (3rd Gen) and iPod Classic!!!!  PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS ISSUE FOR US!!!! 

    I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
    i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
    so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!

  • I've spent an hour plus googling this and none of the 'fixes' works. My custom ringtones show up fine in itunes but are grayed out in iphone when I try to sync. This just happened when I synced my phone: previously worked fine.

    I've spent an hour on this: massively frustrating. My custom ringtones disappeared from iphone when I just sync'd and now show up in itunes/iphone interface (on the mac) grayed out: won't sync to phone. I know the audio files work because they were fine two hours ago! (iphone 5 running 8.1.3)

  • My itunes will not let me download the music that I purchased on my phone to itunes. So the music show up in itunes but when I go to download it the songs and the download symbol are grayed out. How do I fix this?

    Best route would be to shutdown the computer and restart from cold.
    Make a secure backup of your Songs.
    Uninstall iTunes.
    Install the latest version of iTunes.

  • All iTunes songs grayed out and won't sync to phone

    I have over 9000 songs in my iTunes library. My iTunes library is stored locally on my iMac.  The vast majority of songs were imported from CD's I own.  If in iTunes I make the selection to sync the entire library to my phone, iTunes reports that there are about only 250 songs total.  If I select "Sync only checked songs" and choose a few songs or albums, the number of songs to sync stays at zero. iTunes version 12.1.0.50.
    When viewing my iTunes library I noticed that just about all of my song titles are gray.  If I click on a song in iTunes it plays no problem. However I can't sync anything over to my phone anymore.
    If I go to the library location on my HDD all of the music files are there as they should be.
    I appreciate any suggestion - I've been trying to fix this for some time now and have had no success.

    I have finally solved this issue.  Here is the solution:
    1. Open iTunes
    2. Select Music
    3. In the upper right hand corner select Albums.
    4. Under "All Albums" highlight the first album, then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, hold down the shift key and select the last album.
    5. All albums should now be selected.
    6. Place the cursor over one of the albums. Press with 2 fingers on the trackpad to bring up the menu.
    7. Select "Check All"
    8. Congratulations - no more grayed out songs and they will sync now.
    9. Go into your iPhone sync and check the songs you want to transfer and click the sync button.
