Phone labels don't stick when edited

I have had this problem since the first version of Address Book. When I go into edit mode on an address card and change the label on a phone number (from Home to Mobile let's say), then exit edit mode, the label change doesn't stick. It just reverts back to the original description. Is there any way to make the label change on a phone number permanent?

I have done the same thing you have done. I am doing a lecture series for a teacher. I record her voice with logic express and then transfer the audio into the slides and set the timing to fit the audio. When I convert to Quicktime the ending of the slides are extended, which means long pauses between slides. I figured I could convert to DV from keynote to try to cut those long pauses in iMovie but they keynote program just would crash at the end and I didn't have a DV file. So, I'm just converting from Quicktime Pro into a DV file and work on cutting out the long pauses in iMovie. I'm in the middle of this process now. This seems like a long work around but for now, but I see no other choice. Please apple (& jeebuz) help us out!!

Color Settings\Colorsync settings don't stick when setting printing presets

Posting this here, instead of in the iPhoto Forum
In the "Print" dialog box (the dialog box you see after you pass through the iPhoto dialog box - same type of box as with most other OS X applications), there is a down menu to give you access to several categories of settings related to the print job.
Here of course you can save printing presets (paper type, print quality, color management, etc).
Why do ColorSync settings under the "Color Matching" dropdown not get saved with the other presets? Every time, the profile setting defaults to "Automatic". Is this a bug or is there something I am not doing correctly? Is there a good reason why they aren't saved along with other settings? Apple on-screen Help says "some settings cannot be saved in a profile, but this would seem to be a very handy thing?
I use an Epson Artisan 800.
Alternatively, can someone tell me what the behavior is of the "Automatic" setting?
I recently profiled the printer and I am just looking for an easy/quick way at the time of printing to apply one of the three profiles based on the type of paper that is being used. I just figured this would be the easiest way to do it? (my question applies to any application - I posted here because this is of particular importance with iPhoto)
BTW Is it me or is there surprisingly little information online about ColorSync workflows/behavior/relationships in OS X?

Auto Label and or Automoving LR files to Subfolder when Editing in Photoshop

LR is great, but after using it for a while i miss a few things very much indeed and other colleagues back me up on this.
It would be great to give the user an option to add a label to a photo when editing in Photoshop or other external application
And also give the user an option to make a standard subfolder for the edited file.
"Example"
I import all raw files into a dated folder ex. 2007-09-20.
Then i rate the files i like and filter them.
Then i do the raw editing and then i finally open them into photoshop CS3.
Here it would be great that the edited file automatically gets a yellow label and/or is put into a subfolder of 2007-09-20. This subfolder i typically would name FINAL.
I know this would be troublesome due to the Stacking feature in LR, which is nice but i don't use it. So my requested features should only be enabled if i choose not to Stack my files.

Iphoto crashes when editing scans

I have scanned some old family photos and I am now trying to edit them (they are jpeg files). I've read many of the posts here and have followed every advice (newest iphoto version, rebuilt library, etc.....) Then I built the new library with a few of the scans imported and a few "regular" photos. Iphoto still crashes when trying to edit scans, but seems to be doing ok when editing the "regular" photos. Any advice?

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos or each, both the b/w and color scans and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it? It you don't crash when editing in the test library then your current library is damaged.
If that's the case apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I noticed this as well when navigating through the photo gallery on my iPhone.
If you (and he) are asking about iPhone operation then you are in the wrong place - this is the iPhoto for Mac forum - there are forums for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch as well as iPhoto for IOS -
I do not see any cropping in iPhoto on the Mac for either camera or iPhone photos (I use PhotoStream with auto import to get my iPhone photos to iPhoto on my Mac) - and given the way iPhoto works it is really not possible to have auto-cropping - the only thing that I see even close to that is that when you select edit ==> drop the default crop is slightly smaller than the photo - but unless you accept that nothing is changed and the photo is exactly as imported

Acrobat Pro 9.0- Edits don't stick

I often need to make adjustments to a PDF created by an automatic accounting process, and then email it to someone else outside my organization. Typically, it involves placing a solid white block (locked) over existing text, and typewriting over that. (Often these don't let me edit text - they are a scan, etc). If I print it, it looks like I think it should. If I email it to someone- sometimes they see the right 'version' and sometimes when they print it out my edits are simply overlayed on the text I thought I had hidden.

Since the upgrade to IOS7, the default phone label when adding new contacts in my iPhone 5 is "Radio". Previously the default was "Mobile". It is a hassle as when my iPhone contacts are synched with Outlook via Exchange, the phone number I've entered on the iPhone doesn't show on the default Outlook view as it is a "Radio" number rather than a "Mobile", "Work", "Home", etc number. It is still stored both on the iPhone & in Outlook & I can still use the number to phone or SMS, it is just incorrectly labelled & hence the source of frustration.
Apple please return the default to "Mobile" or alternatively find a way we can alter the default ourselves to "Mobile" or "Home" etc.

Preferences don't stick

One biggest nightmares of using Safari in last year is suddenly prefrences don't stick -- ie number of pages want search, to use/ not use search query etc. The problem vanished after last upgrade, but has resurfaces yesterday -- not sure if coincidence, but I downloaded some update from Apple, can't rememeber what, security thing and something else.
Anyone have any idea how to lick this beast!
The "basics" have not worked....clearing cookies, cache, deleting pref. file -- it "seems" be in an internal thing with Safari, as it did go away on last upgrade to 4.0.3, I think, but is now back

Maybe there's an underlying issue. Have you checked the startup disk for errors lately?
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% free disk space*

Pixelixed photos when edited.. where do I set quality?

I have a Minolta 7-D camera ($900) and now a new Macbook just a few days old. I'm sad to say my first photo project has not turned out as good as I can do on my PC. I know there must be a setting, or perhaps I am expecting too much out of i-Photo?
I burned a CD to take to Wal-mart to print. All the ones I edited with i-Photo are unacceptable. The pixelized nature is about that of my old verizon camera phone!!
Where can I tell my computer to do everything photo (import, edit, export, print, etc..) with the ABSOLUTE best quality? I am not the least bit concerned with saving hard drive space. That's what I bought it for. The camera shoots in high quality *.JPG format, about 100 pictures on a 512Mb memory stick.
Also, is there an easier way to keep the original displayed when editing/cropping? I have to make a copy and then edit, as when I edit, I can no longer see the original anymore. I know I can "revert" to original, but I want to always see the original and my edited photo side by side. In PC land, it would ask me if I wanted to save and so I would just put a "-01" at the end of the file name. I'd like to have that back.
Thanks for helping me get used to my new Mac, I know I will like it better once I get used to it. I found myself trying to two-finger scroll on my PC laptop the other day... It didn't work!

You made the CD with the Share -> Burn command, right? This is designed for backing up or sharing with another iPhoto Library. It contains the thumbnail files as well as the others. It's inevitable that Wal-Mart or whoever will opt to burn those and not the actual files.
Select the pics in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export them to a Folder on the Desktop. Burn that folder to CD with the Finder. Result: A disk with just the full size pics and one that even Wal-Mart's machine can understand.
so, is there an easier way to keep the original displayed when editing/cropping?
Are you editing with iPhoto? Hold the Shift key.

Custom Phone Labels

Hi,
I'm probably mistaken about this ... getting confused between the Mac and the iPhone, but I thought that previously created Custom phone labels were available to choose from a pop-up list, when making a new contact or editing an existing contact. They are on the iPhone.
Is it my imagination that they have disappeared from Address Book? Is this a MobileMe issue? (I am syncing iPhone via MobileMe).
Also ... any Custom Label added to the Template, is only available to new contact cards, not existing ones. Bug?

From my recollection, what you describe is how it has always been. However, with Snow Leopard, everything was rewritten and some things do not work as they did in Leopard. Apparently, you used to be able to set the label order in the Template in the Leopard version. Now, in the SL version, it is always 'work' first.

If you for some reason must have many different folder make sure that you put the newst photo in the last folder so one can easily find a photo when I don't want to copy all photos to, let' say, my friend computer.

How to get clips to appear in good quality when editing?

I worked with PE over a decade ago when I had a PC. In 2008 I migrated to Apple -- specifcally desktop Intel duo-processor Mac, OS X Snow Lion 10.6.8. So regretably I was forced to leave PE behind and begin using Final Cut Express 4.0.1.   Recently I bought a new HD camera so I thought it was a good time to return to PE 11 since the program is now being made for Macs too. (I had missed the Organizer tremendously!) Before working with my new camera however, I could not resist importing some old standard definition clips into a timeline to play around with. Well they look horrible in the viewer -- all pixelated and poor quality! I selected the clips, pressed render and nothing happened. I am used to automatic rendering when editing in FCE so that what you see in the viewer is what you get, of course unless you run into compression issues later on. But I need to see what I'm editing and can't do that with this poor quality. So what is the problem?   The clips are all in .mp4 or .mov format. The .mp4 clips were shot with a Panasonic SDR-H85P in that format and the .mov clip was converted from DV footage on a tape recorded with a Canon ZR900.
Also, I am used to seeing and working on a minutia level -- sometimes frame by frame with a "blade" tool in FCE. I switched to expert view but still can't tell where 1 frame ends and another begins. Is there an easy way to do that?

Thank you for your helpful answer.   Regarding frame view, I found the options you indicated. However, I think my issue has more to do with "timeline view" if you will.   For example, in Final Cut, you could press "option +" several times to "lengthen" the timeline which in turn would "stretch" out each frame to an extent necessary to make really precise edits on a minutia scale. Then in order to "compress" it so you could see the entire timeline on the computer screen, pressing "option -" several times would bring it back down to that size which was handy for seeing exactly where all your other effects on other timelines were arranged. Does that make sense? Is there a way to do that in PE 11?    It's zooming in and out of the timeline essentially in order to see more of the detail while editing.
Regarding the poor quality of playback, I was able to correct the problem by setting the playback settings to "highest." That was a relief.   Also the clip properties did match the project properties, but if I had wanted to change project properties, I don't think I could have because so many of the options remained blanked out or unavailable -- all light in color not allowing me to access them. Don't know what the term for that is but you probably know what I mean. So does that mean that project properties are always automatically determined or must they be preset somehow? Any direction on that issue would be helpfui because I also work with infrared clips a lot from a Bushnell camcorder and often combine those with regular video clips. What is going to happen then?   Again, thanks so much for your help!
