Phone memory capacity

In technical specification it is stated that phone has 8,0 Gt memory capacity. However when I add up the capacity in use and available free capacity I just get 7,3 Gt capacity. What happened to the missing 0,7 Gt capacity. Same thing happened, when I added up all the announced separate capacities in use. I got some 4.44Gt in use. However the phone reports 6,79 Gt in use. Difference is some 2,35Gt capacity.
Do I have some extra programs in my phone like spy programs or viruses?

Do you own a computer? What is the advertised size of the hard drive? What is the size indicated before and after installing the Operating System? It is just the same on any storage, even on a thumb/flash drive.

  • Can't see phone memory capacity status

I changed my Nokia 3500c mobile security code from default 12345 to a new one. Then I set phone's security level to memory. After restarting the phone I changed phone security level to phone. Then I tried to see the status of my phone contacts/address-book capacity. But a info message "PHONE MEMORY PROTECTED" appears. I can't see how much of my contacts capacity is  being used now. Nokia 3500c has address book capacity of upto 2000 contacts. My firmware version is 6. Why such warning message appears since my phone's security level is set for phone, not memory?

Selecting Phone sets security to the entire phone, including the memory.

Geesh - all this information and no  one has any clue to this? Not even someone from Apple?

If you're asking if there is a way to add memory to your device, there isn't.  iOS devices have a fixed capacity that can't be expanded by using expansion cards or other hardware solutions.
If you're running out of capacity on your devices, the only solution is to store less on your phone.  You can import your photos and videos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083, then delete it from your device.  If you still want some of the photos on your device, put them in a folder on your computer then select the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and sync your device.
You can also sync only some of your music to your device rather than your entire library, or subscribe to iTunes Match and stream it from iCloud.  You can also not keep as many movies, tv shows and other media on your device.

  • Other in memory capacity

When you open iTunes and look at the bottom of the screen, you seen your memory capacity. I have the 8GB with all the updated patches. I look and see my audio, video, photos allocation but there is about 240MB allowcated to "other" What is this and how do I get rid of it.

That can be caused by a corruption of files, possibly in a previous sync. What you need to do is reset the phone, and if that doesn't do it, then a restore. That will fix the incorrect reading in "Other".
    Hope this answers your question.

  • WTK Memory capacity

What is the current memory capacity if wtk 2.2?? How can we handle out of memory error??

I dont remeber the exact value , but you can change the ammount of memory for the emulator from the WTK-> prefrences -> storage-> heap size
this will emulate a device with the ammount of memory you just specified.
how to handel out of memory1- the keyword"new" is not that simple to use( kep that in mind)
2- srround the most suspected memory consumer code with try and catch , to catch OutOfMemoryError. ( please note this is not Exception , this is error)
3- after catching the erroe run gc(), to clean up some resource.
4- gc() is not that cheap to call , so call it when u just released a heavy ass object and u about to create new heavier ass one.
    finally
good code will be out of memory safe. ,btu bad code not only OutOfMemoryError generator , but also a main cause of the phone restart issue

  • Nokia (N8) phone memory : best practices / guide t...

    Hi,
I'd like to know what are the best practices to manage space / memory on my phone.
On the N8 user guide, it is simply written : "If possible, install applications to the mass
memory or memory card, rather than the device memory." (p.112) And that's all !
If I understood well there are 3 types of memory on N8 :
    256 Mo RAM
    512 Mo ROM (Phone memory, C: )
    16 Go storage (Mass memory, E: )
[and also 32GB expendable memory SDHC card 4x minimum]
Since I bought my N8, I installed everything (apps and multimedia files) on E: (mass memory)
    Today I have on :
C: Phone memory : 158 Mo free space over 254,4 Mo
    E: Mass memory : 732,1 Mo / 14,3 Go (with 12,3 Go of MP3 files)
I am using a software called Netqin Mobile Guard for S^3 (which by the way I like a lot, especially the "prompt for connection" and the "web usage manager" functions) and it tells me that I have "insufficient memory on disk E:"
So here are my questions :
1 - Is it true that 732 Mo free on disk E: is not enough ?
2 - Why is better to install everything on mass memory if there is 256 Mo RAM and free space on phone memory ?
3 - If I use a SDHC card to free some space on E: (move all my MP3 files), will it consumes more battery power?
I spent some time looking for answers on internet but I didn't find any to these questions... Any help would be much appreciated. Also if you have any advice on RAM optimisation, I'd take it ! My way to optimise it is to close all apps I'm not using from the app manager. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post, but I think it would be helpful for a lot of people!
    Regards

Question 1.> 732MB is what is left on the internal mass memory. NetQin is just warning you that you do not have much storage left if you want to add more files. The " insufficient memory on disk E " is just an over dramatic warning in my opinion.
--> this is also what I thought but as I wrote in my previous answer, I'd like to be sure my phone is not going to crash if my data reach 99% of E: capacity
Question 2. > It is better to leave as much free memory as possible on the C drive to give the phone better performance. The less memory their is on C the slower the phone becomes.
--> that's what I understood from what I've read but does it mean that "C: memory" is used more or less as additional RAM memory? Or is it just (as you say about Netqin app.) an "over dramatic warning" from Nokia to prevent users from reaching full capacity and then crashing the phone?
Question 3. > I'm not sure by adding an SD card would consume any significant amount of extra power. Unless you are permanently accessing the SD card. It wont consume extra power when the phone is idle.
--> then I may need to buy a SD card to  store all my MP3s and let everything else on the mass memory. I asked this question 'cause I remember having noticed using a palm with a sd card (I know this is old stuff) that it impacted the battery.
It would be nice to have official statements from Nokia on these topics, don't you think?
    Thanks anyway for your answers!

  • How important is memory capacity?

just wondering how many people here who have 16GB iphones use anything close to the full memoryof the phone?
Id like to buy an iPhone on pay as you go in the UK, but I think the price is really too high.
Im hoping that when the next updates come it might be possible to pick up a cheaper outgoing 8Gb model... just a bit worried about the smaller memory capacity.
Given it now has 3G.... (not quite sure how truthful it is to say its got "broadband speeds") but how true is it to say the phone memory is getting more irrelevant in the sense you have access to the net, and potentially "unlimited storage"? in fact wasnt there a company that was specifically advertising online storage that you can access with the iphone?
I spose the onboard phone memory will be needed for App and itunes storage? or are there options for taking those storage requirements online and thus outside the phone, and accessing them when needed?
    sorry for all the questions!

but how true is it to say the phone memory is getting more irrelevant in the sense you have access to the net, and potentially "unlimited storage"?
Not really true - the things that would take up the most space, i.e. music and videos, cannot be streamed to your iPhone (with the exception of many YouTube videos).
I spose the onboard phone memory will be needed for App and itunes storage?
    Yes.
or are there options for taking those storage requirements online and thus outside the phone, and accessing them when needed?
    No.
Basically, since you cannot add memory to the iPhone, if you think you might want more storage capacity, get it now.
Personally, I have ~1000 songs, 350 pics, ~35 apps and I still have ~9.5 GB available. Videos take up the most space - a full length movie will run about 1 GB, a 30 minute TV episode (really, 22 minutes of footage) will run ~250 MB.

  • Delete file from NOKIA C5-03 phone memory

I still face a problem that when I buy mobile then phone memory was 40MB, but now it reduced to 30MB. I try to browse and remove unwanted file from phone memory. But nothing gonna happen.  I also use pc suite, mass storage etc, but can't. What can I do now?

Try clearing browser cache and your messages from inbox. Try installing ET optimizer or netqin mobile guard. They both can be used to remove trash files.

Ive deleted contacts from my contacts list but they still pop up when i go to text and type in the name of a current contact. .  How can i delete them off my phones memory for good? iPhone 4S

At the present time, the only way to clear that is to restore the phone as new.  Perhaps a future iOS update will give us the option to clear that cache.

I have a Nokia Asha 206. Recently I updated it. After the update now out shows phone memory full all the time though I don't have any file in phone memory accept those which I could not delete. Please tell me how to solve this problem cause even if anyone sends me text msg it does not come to my phone cause memory is full. Even I can't send any msg. Everytime I try to send or receive something it showed memory full.i have external memory having 700mb free space but only 37kb internal free space.

Hi, wasimul. Welcome to our community. We suggest deleting some of your files like photos, videos, and text messages that you no longer need. You can also save your contacts directly to the memory card to avoid such issue. Another option is to reset it to its original settings. Here's how: Restore factory settings. The link is still applicable regardless of your location. We look forward to your reply.

Welcome to BlackBerry Support Community Forums
By " BlackBerry Protected Data " do you mean BlackBerry ID password which we use for BlackBerry Protect ? If so , you can reset your password by following this KB Article :
KB26361  :How to change or reset a BlackBerry ID password.
After reset , you can use BlackBerry protect to restore your deleted data ( If you have a backup of those deleted data ) , You can also restore your data if you ever did a backup using Desktop Software . To restore data refer to those KB Articles :
