Phone name change

I have successfully set up my iPhone 3GS except that I did not realise that I could change my phone's name. Now i am sitting with the "ugly" name of "Administrator's iPhone". Is there a way I can change it?

Have your phone connected to itunes. On the left, underneath Store, where it says "Devices" it will show the name of your phone. Double click on the actual phone name and type your required name in there. Hit enter and sync, just to be sure.
Pick an name like Titanic, it almost reads "Sinking the Titanic"

What devices are you trying to connect to, and are they in pairing mode? Is the phone in pairing mode? The iPhone only connects to audio devices and to computers for tethering. You cannot use BlueTooth on an iPhone for file transfers to other phones or computers.

I plugged my i phone into our mac just to recharge it and somehow it recognized it as my wife's phone and changed the name of the phone to hers. I lost the carrier I was using, though it still can connect to internet. I tried to erase all settings and content, and then back up from I cloud, but it only offered backups since the name was changed. I can't make any calls at this point.

Just plugging it in doesn't change the name. If this was the first time you connected to this computer, you should have selected "Set up as New Device".
You will need to restore and since you no longer have a backup for this phone, you will lose your data.

There is another setting for "Start Conversation from", that needs to be set to phone number.

I can tell you that with Sprint their coverage area isn't as good as Verizon or AT&T.
Are you sending these imessage while on wifi or cellular data? Also your husband would need to be in a good coverage area.
Usually when imessage is unavailable it will send it as a text. Does your husband receive your imessage as a text?

N95 change phone name

Hi there,
We have 2 x N95's and want to sync them independently in PC Suite how can we change each phones names as currently they both have the same name, Nokia N95.
We are syncing with USB cable and have changed the name in BT and wireless but still each phone is named Nokia N95 can we change the name if so how.

Please be aware that your post will not elicit a response from Nokia. Use "Contact us" at top right of the screen to bring this issue to Nokia's attention. The more times an issue is reported the further up it moves in "possible action" table.

When I setup my new MacBook Pro, something slipped by me and my computer was named First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro (using my real first and last name).
I changed the computer name in Preferences/Sharing to a new name and Preferences/Accounts to just be Mike. I can right click on my account name, choose advanced, and see that everything looks right.
However, If I do a scan of my network with my iPhone using the free version of IP Scanner, it lists my computer as First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro! And it lists the user as First-Last.
So even though another Mac just sees my new computer name, and my home folder is Mike, somewhere in the system the original setup with my full name is still stored. And it's available on a network scan. So my full name might show up at a coffee shop.
Can I fully change the name without doing a complete re-install of Lion and all my apps?

One thought... you said the iPhone displayed your computer's old name? I think that you must have used the iPhone with this computer before you changed the name. So no one else's iPhone should display your full name unless that iPhone had previously connected to your Mac. For example, I did this exact same change, and I use the Keynote Remote app to connect with my MacBook Pro. It would no longer link with my MacBook Pro under the old name, and I found that I had to unlink and then create a new link under the new name. So the answer to your question is, there is nothing you need to do on the Mac, but rather the phone, and no other phone will display your full name.

When your phone is connected in iTunes, look at the left side where it says the phone name. Double click it (or right click) and you can change the name.

Contact names change to facebook names

As the tite suggests, my contact names change to their facebook names, I have to contiunessly change certian names back, namely 'mum', I'd much rather call my mother that than her real name.
How do I stop the contacts from reverting to facebook names ever few hours?

If you go to Settings - Facebook you have an option to turn off Contacts.
All it does is not add your Facebook friends to your contacts on your phone, which theoretically should solve your problem of the names being changed.
Sorry the solution isn't more precise to your problem but it should at least work as a temporary fix

I'd call Verizon to initiate a legal name change on your account. A phone call or stop to a corporate store would be needed, I'd think, to make an account change such as is related to names.

Phone number changed, but old number still shows in iTunes and in contacts within Phone app

My phone number changed, but when my phone is plugged into iTunes, it is still showing my old phone number in the iPhone information box. Also, when you are in contacts from within the Phone app. and you you pull down the list of contacts so it reveals the space above the search field, it says "My Number: (old number)" instead of "My Number: (new number)". I have synced my phone with iTunes since the change and my new number has been updated in my name record in the Contacts app. but the old number is still persisting in the aforementioned places. How do I get iTunes an the space above the search field in the contacts section of the Phone app to display my new number?

Screen shot below best reflects my inquiry. Have noted intermittent problems with Siri (and other apps) when using location services. In checking Privacy> Location Sevices>Share my location>From this device, i find repeated phone name. I know these can be slided over to elect delete but not certain what I am deleting? What are the repeated names associated to? What implications could result if duplicates are deleted?

Looks bad. I would strongly advise backing up the stuff on the other two partitions as soon as possible in case the rest of the drive goes wrong.
Beyond that, Disk Utility has limited abilities to repair disks, DiskWarrior uses a different approach and might, emphasis might be more successful. It has certainly done the job for me in the past when Disk Utility could not.
