Phone no longer gives engaged tone but tells calle...

I think the problem stems from the fact I recently cancelled 1571 when Bt decided to start charging. When a caller dials and the phone is engaged instead of getting the engaged tone a recorded message tells them they can't leave a message. Same thing happens after 8 rings. My answerphone cuts in after 10 rings so I never get any messages. This is driving me potty. Is it punishment for stopping a BT call feature?

My phone no longer uses its normal speaker for calls.

My iphone just decided to constantly detect headphones in the phone, even when they're not there. This happens only during calls. Sounds produced by any other means (apps, clicks from the interface) work fine. Also, if I set the phone to speaker, it works with the speaker. And it works fine if I plug in a headphone to it.
How can I resolve this issue and make my iphone start sending calls through the normal speaker again?

Here's the weird part. The volume button that normally shows if its in headphones mode or not, it was off when I just started my phone. Sound came out as normal. Then I tried calling it to test it, and when I picked up the call, the phone switched to headphones mode. After the call, even the normal springboard view of the phone was in headphones mode.
Could that be software related?

Dial Tone Sounds Like Engaged Tone

Any bright ideas; my dial tone sounds like an engaged tone but I can phone out OK, but it comes up with engaged for anybody trying to call in. My broadband, such as it is, is no worse than normal. I have checked with just a wired phone at the test point and it is the same.

If the basics (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new) don't work, you'll need to bring the phone to Apple for evaluation

I have looged a fault with bt for this issue VOL012-*********, but no engineer turned up yesterday to look at it. I have tested 2 different phones in the master test socket and still have the same problem, no dial tone but broadband is working ok. How do BT get away with treating its customers like this?

@Scardy, this is exactly what happened to our phone line last September! The phone line was just mush, there was no dial tone, but we were able (just) to send email and look at certain web pages, but it was painfully slow. I tried everything, like you, no improvement. I got in touch with BT, they said there was a fault on the line, I said 'it's been fine for years why now?' BT sent an OR engineer, he turned up on time, it was a very enlightening time for me to be sure! He showed me the 'drop cable' that the phone signal came into our property on - 50 years old! Rubber outer, two strands of copper cable with cardboard insulation between them! I also found a big cut in the cable on the wall of our place, for the life of me that looked like vandalism. He arranged for a new armoured cable to be put in across our front lawn, and hey presto, all was well! With the confidence I had in that, we've got Infinity now, a new master socket and there's no going back. I hope this helps & it all gets sorted out out quickly for you.

Hold Command-Option while pointing to an item in the Spotlight list. Or Command-Click will show the item in the Finder.

Long story short, I'm trying to progress from my first gen iPhone to my iPhone 4s. I sync my first gen as directed to create a backup, and then restore my 4s to the first gen backup. However, once this is done (and it does successfully transfer my first gen phone apps, photos, texts, calendar, etc-etc to my 4s), my 4s phone no longer has 4g data like it did prior to syncing - it doesn't recognize my data plan at all. The only way I can access the internet is through my wi-fi. You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store notice. For example, if the App Store says you need to update "Twitter," the hacked app may be "Angry Birds" or something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you have to carry out a systematic search.

Thank you so much for your response. I had these photos backed up on iCloud but, had I not, its good to have an alternate solution as the one you suggested. Actually, I went to the Apple store today and yes, you are absolutely correct Restoring in iTunes will result in permanent loss of photos unless backed up somewhere such as iCloud or other solution. Well, what they did was restore the phone in itunes ( I did not have iTunes downloaded to my computer which is why it did not work when I went to do it myself, I needed to go to the iTunes site and go to the download iTunes button because my windows based HP laptop does not come with itunes already downloaded). This retoration process took a while and I was forced to upgrade to the latest 7.1 iOS software which I was not too happy about -sometimes you like the way things work now :-) Anyhow, they said this restoration request happens as a result of a software update (which I was NOT in progress of an update or doing an update) or sometimes when you remove the power cable too quickly from the iphone (which I do not recall doing this either but...). Since I had backed up on iCloud all of the photos were downloaded back on my iphone 4s. Best of all was that my phone was back up and runnning and there was NO CHARGE at the apple store for this service of restoring my phone. Well, I just wanted to share the results and I appreciate all the responses and support I received. Thank you kindly.

If it's not available in your country and you do not have a copy of it in iTunes backed up on your computer, you don't.
