Phone no longer recognized by my computer or my wall charger...HELP

After the 2.0 upgrade had a few issues, still have a few of the apps quitting etc. these I can deal with while waiting for the fixes.
The big problem is the phone now cannot connect to the computer or the charger, tried different cables {still can charge with car charger} all combinations and even my daughters new wall charger that came with her 3 g, nothing, so not the connector or the cables since all work in the car, not the charger since hers works on her phone and her phone works on my charger!
I used to do the connection for back up etc. using a hub but that was first to fail {worked during upgrade {?} to 2.0 and for a few days after that, up until this morning I could plug it directly into the usb on the computer and that worked now nothing works but the Belkin car charger.
Did all of the restarts of the phone and the computer, nothing helps, would try a restore on the phone but, read above.
If the old cell plan were transferable to the new phone I would gladly go buy a new phone {is this some hidden software bug to make me do that? ;-} but I see no need to pay $15 more per month for the same service, there is no 3 g near me so all I would get for the money is gps.
Any ideas?

I am right there with you with this issue. I've tried every reset feature there is and that doesn't work at all. NOTHING FIXES IT!
I have a Logitech monitor with a ipod dock in it and that will charge it but once you hook the USB cable to ANY computer MAC/PC it stops showing that it is charging.
It will NOT sync at all and doesn't look like it is charging but I swear it is.
I took mine to the Apple Store in Brandon about 2 hours ago. They never saw this issue before and of course I'm out of my warranty by only 20 days!
My phone is hosed and I had to get a new one if I wanted to sync anything to it. They had the white 3G 16gig so I had to shell out another $300 to get a working phone. Which brings my total in just over a year of having it to almost $1000. I don't see how this is fair business practice...
I hope someone as Apple is listening. Your people don't know how to fix this in the store and right now I have a worthless iPhone!!! This *****!

  • HT4623 my computer backs up my ipad but suddenly the ipad is no any longer  recognized by the computer

I live in thailand. I back up my 2 Ipads on my computer. Suddenly yesterday the  ipad 3 went blank excpt for the B/White logo on the screen. The ipad is no longer recognized on my computer when I plug it in to my back up computer with the usb connection. Until now the ipad worked perfectly. I have tried to be sure the ipad is charged but i have no way to be sure it is because the screen had nothing on it but the apple logo. I can not try to restore my system because i can not find the ipad3 on my back up computer since the back up computer shows nothing for the ipad 3 and screen on the ipad3 shows nothing to signify but the apple logo. the ipad does not respond to taps etc.
How can i reactivate the ipad 3? My ipad 1 still works fine.
my operating system is windows pro

Have you tried rebooting the computer as well? Shut it totally off, then restart it and try again. If you are already on iOS 6.1.2 as your signature states, the only way to install an update/restore the phone would be to connect it to the PC.

  • IPad no longer recognized by any computer after 4.2.1 update

    Hi,
my iPad is no longer recognized by any computer after the 4.2.1 update. It does not show up in iTunes and this even in recovery mode. When connected to charger it does not show that it would charge (but it does). The iPad is still usable except in the iPod app is says "cancelling sync" and does not show any music.
I already reinstalled iTunes, reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device Service, used different computers with different OS version, but it does not show up, not even in the system profiler (USB tab).
Any idea what I should do? I mean it is quite unlikely that there is a hardware issue as the problems appeared right after the 4.2.1 update (from 4.2).
    Thanks in advance

Yes I know, I already reset like 100 times. Turned off-on...
I guess a recovery could solve the problem, but how do it if the iPad does not even appear in iTunes. I guess it is somewhat stuck in "cancelling sync" and therefore will not accept an USB connection (the USB port behaves like it is deactivated).

  • My Ipod 4th generation wont charge when I plug it in either my computer or a wall charger

No light comes on when I plug it in to either my computer or a wall charger. I've tried restarting it, upgrading the software on my computer, my computer doesn't even realize that its plugged in no matter which port I plug it into. Please help! I got it for my birthday last Septemeber (2011) from my kids, and just want it to work again.

Are you sure the connections on each end are nice and snug?  The picture in this article shows you what not to do.

Are you using the cable that originally came with the iPod?

  • Iphone 4 is no longer recognized by my computer

My iphone 4 isn't recognized by my computer.  When plugging it in, a message on PC states that my phone can't be used due to software not being installed.  It then prompts for a reinstallation of itunes to correct.  However, this doesn't resolve the issue.  This has  been going on for some time since the installation of the latest itunes update.  Can someone advise of what software I might be missing, or what might be going on with this situation?

I presume you are using Windows

  • My iPod is no longer recognized by my computer

Hello, I'll try to explain what is happening.
When I connect my iPod into the computer it's no longer recognized as a drive. It recharges ok, but I simply can't do anything more.
I've tried probably all the articles on Apple site, the only thing I couldn't do is restoring my iPod, because it's not even recognized by the updater.
I know that many other users experienced this problem before, but I couldn't find an answer, so if someone have ANY idea, please post here.
      Windows XP Pro

I have the same problem...but unfortunately I think its the hard drive that failed and I've only had this iPod 3 weeks (bought it used on ebay because I wanted to use accessories that only work on a 4th Gen. pod) Now I'm in the market for a cheap functional 20m GB HDD or an iPod with a different problem, click wheel bad, e.g. [if case you know of one]
Here's what I found, finally, to diagnose the problem (even the Apple store geniuses couldn't decide if the HDD or the control board or both were bad.) I found this on Apple's site.
Even if your computer won't see your iPod, you may be able to run "Diagnostics". On my 4th Gen 20GB, the way you do that is press Menu P/B and Select P/B at the same time for at least 6 secs to reset it, then while the Apple icon is displayed, hold the Back P/B and Select P/B at the same time-you'll know when you're there (again the second part may be diff. if you have a diff. unit-search Diagnostics on Apples support page.) Anyway, there are prompts and the rest is fairly intuitive. If your SCAN works your hard drive is probably OK-lucky you. If you check RAM or 5 in 1 and it comes back bad your control board is probably bad. There are battery checks and several other checks. Good Luck

  • I cant figure out why my HTC Droid DNA is no longer recognized by my computer when i hook it up with the USB cable that came with the phone.

I used to be able to just plug in my phone with the USB cable to my Windows 7 computer and browse phone storage with no issues. Now my computer sees it as an android phone but when it tries to automatically install the drivers for my phone on the computer, i get an access denied error message. No option on the phone that i can see that allows me to mount phone as a usb drive. This used to work just fine with nothing more than just hooking up the cable. What gives??

Let's get that access granted again, e_rock_b. The HTC DNA doesn't have a special USB Mass Storage Mode that needs to be turned on. Usually, it's as simple as connecting and browsing http://vz.to/1jktbZD as you mentioned. If your computer is no longer allowing that easy access, try the steps at http://vz.to/1jktvr6.

  • 3G phone no longer recognized by itunes.

My itunes does not recognize my iphone 3G. Have tried checking through device manager on my computer, but it is not there at all. When I purchased the phone in May, 2010, it worked fine and was recognized by itunes. But now nothing! So frustrating because the phone is getting slower and slower. I have tried to follow the articles emailed to me by itunes customer support and have deleted and reinstalled itunes - still nothing. Please help me someone??

Deleting and re-installed iTunes is only one step. There are several others. If you have done everything else included with this link, focus on potential Windows software conflicts.

  • I have the iPhone 3GS and I was updating to the IOS 5 version when at the end of the update it said updated failed. Now my phone is not recognized by my computer or any computer. The computer says it is a unknown device and my phone will not do anything.

Need help finding out what happened to my phone and what I can do. After trying to update my iPhone 3GS to IOS 5 my phone will no longer work and is an unknown device to any computer. It is like it wiped out everything on the iPhone and has no hardware or data on it. At the end of the download and update of IOS 5 it said there was an error during the process and gave me no option but to push ok and know phone is not working. The screen shows the USB plug and iTunes symbol, but computers will not recognize device.

What was the error number?  That would be very useful since the following gives actions for various errors.

Try manually placing the iPod in recovery mode to see if that will make the iPod visible in iTunes.  See:

The other day my external hard drive fell from my poorly made wobbly desk and was unplugged without being ejected. When I plugged it back in it didn't reappear on my desktop so I went into desk utilities where I could see it, I tried to verify it and repair it but I got these error codes:

  • IPod touch 4g is not recognized in my computer as a portable device, help?

I have an iPod Touch 4th generation (4.2.1) and the computer it was initially synced with (a Dell Inspiron laptop) is no longer working.  I would like to update the iPod software via iTunes, and I have already transferred purchases and backed up my iPod, but now I need to secure my music before it restores my iPod and I am left with none of my music from my Dell laptop.
I know that I can easily transfer my songs from my iPod to a folder on my computer just as long as I can actually get my iPod to show up in "My Computer" under "Portable Devices".  But as of now, my iPod only shows up as a "Digital Camera".
Please, someone, anyone, HOW CAN I GET MY IPOD 4G TO SHOW UP UNDER "MY COMPUTER > PORTABLE DEVICES?"
I have been working at this for HOURS, I just want to update my iPod and keep all of my music, I don't think this is "illegal", nor should it be so difficult to simply secure music from a previous PC.
    Thanks in advance.

My computer nor my Itunes doesn't recognize my Ipod touch when I plug it in. I have already tried restarting my Ipod and uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes but it hasn't worked. Help please???!?!?!?

    Try another cable
    Does it charge?
Next try another computer to help determine if you have an iPod/cable problem or a computer problem

  • IPod is not recognized by my computer, but it will charge

I looked through the forums but everyone seems to have trouble connecting their iPod AND charging it. I can plug mine into my iMac and it starts charging, but it does not show up as a disk or in iTunes. This is a brand new iPod (my last one iPod's HD died). The only thing I can think is that maybe it is the firewire cord, because someone said different pins are used for charging and transferring data. I've tried all the steps that Apple says, but I can't restore obviously.
    Any help out there?

General troubleshooting for unrecognized ipods in Windows is mentioned here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495
Start by checking Apple Mobile Device Service: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
Removing and reinstalling iTunes is covered here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
As mentioned in this article, reinstalling iTunes will not delete your music and apps, but backing up is always a good idea.
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. See how to back up the contents of your iTunes library in How to back up your media in iTunes.
