Phone number doesn't link to i Message or facetime.

worked fine until I ran a "reset all settings" yesterday. and ever since than I can only link my email addresses but the phone number disappears. what am I missing here?

Phone number missing on iPad or iPod touch
If your phone number isn't listed on an iPod touch or iPad, follow these steps:
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Verify that you're using the same Apple ID that you're using on your iPhone.
On your iPad or iPod touch, sign out of your Apple ID in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign in to your Apple ID with FaceTime and iMessage.
If your phone number still isn't listed, follow these steps:
Sign out of your Apple ID on all iOS devices, including your iPhone, in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your iPhone.
When activation is complete, your Apple ID and all verified email addresses should be visible in Settings > Messages > Receive At and Settings > FaceTime.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your other iOS devices.

There's no option to edit/delete the iPhone cache, the cache will be overwritten in time.
If you can't wait, only restore as new can get rid of it.

Use his ID for Settings>Messages>Send And Recieve and for Settings>FaceTime.
If he does not have an ID then
Create a NEW account using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.

IOS5 displaying phone number instead of name in text message screen

At the top of the text message screen, where it used to say the recipient's name, it now says their phone number. I cannot find any settings as to change this. It happens to others who have iMessage on. If they do not have an iPhone, or their iMessage is off, it still says their name.

I fixed this problem by:
1. Turn iMessage off
2. Turn iMessage on
3. Verify contact is in contact list
4. Deleting the text message series prior to the one you want to send. Say you've texed Bob Dole 1000 times, delete the entire thread. Then, hit new message, load Bob Dole from contacts, and send.
For me, this ended the above problem.

Why won't messages use my phone number as my ID for my messages when I have it set as the default?

I have gone through all of my settings since updating to iOS 8 and I made sure my phone number is listed as my default caller ID for messages and facetime (meaning I have logged out and back in again on my phone, iPad, AND Macbook....) but it's still using my Apple ID e-mail address and when someone texts me to my phone number it sends it as a text and not an Apple message.

You say that your account is blocked and that you have your Apple id back (?).
If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad.

I did that but nothing has changed. I only have a few contacts. Messages just showing numbers. If I start a message with a name it pulls it from somewhere but then changes to the their number

I am using iPhone 6. Under settings I cannot choose to use my phone number as my signature. It defaults to my Apple ID ( a personal e-mail) and I do not prefer to use that. When I go in to settings>Messages > Send & Receive > My phone number is not a choice. I Cannot choose it (as it is greyed out). I am sure this is somehow related to using iMessage vs. text.
Since I use this phone both personally and professionally I'd like to just choose my phone number vs. e-mail. Thanks for your help so far! Need to find the proper solution.

I updated my Macbook Pro to 10.8.2 and my iPhone to iOS6.
My phone number though didn't register with my Macbook Pro as expected - only my e-mail is present (in Messages for Mac and Facetime).
Please advice.

Is the iPhone using the Apple ID or the iPhone Number to start New Messages ?
Try changing it from one to the other and back again.
Also try doing it when Messages is Off line.

HT204150 iMessage help - assigning my UK and UAE phone number to iMessage so I recieve messages to both,

I was previously based in the UK and have a UK phone number which was set up to receive iMessages. Now I have moved to Dubai and have bought a pay-as-you-go number with a local company. I use the new card in my iPhone 5s (updating to iOS 8 as we speak) and the Dubai number has associated itself with iMessage. The thing is since i still have and am paying for the other UK phone (and most people still have that contact) I'd like to still receive iMessages to that number to on my iPhone (and other devices too) Can this be done or will it only ever let me have one phone number on my iMessages / iCloud account??

As far as I know you can only use one number on iMessage. Once you register iMessage with the new number, the old one disappears. I suggest you use your Apple ID as it is always "constant" I use multiple SIMs/numbers and have opened to use the AppleID in order to avoid your problem.
