Phone on holiday (uk to us)

Just wanted to ask
I'm going to the us for a few weeks from the uk. And want to use my phone for music, games and take pics,
Will turning the phone into airplane mode be enough to prevent getting charged for anything ? Including someone trying to call me ?
Also, if i want to use a twitter app at the hotel using their wi fi ? Would i get charged ? Do i need to ask hotel to make sure its free ?

On your iPhone, tap Settings > Store then login to your account.
Tap the country where you see "Change Country or Region" to make changes.
Even downloading free apps, Apple will "verify" your Apple ID account billing information.

Holidays not showing up in calendar iOS 8

US holidays are not showing up on my calendar on my iPhone 6. I am using iOS 8 and have iCloud synced. I also subscribed to holidays on my phone. Holidays show up on my calendar on my macbook pro but not my phone. Any solutions out there? Thanks!

If worse comes to worse, you can manually add on by doing the following:
Tap Settings
Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Scroll down and tap Add Account...
Tap Other
Tap Add Subscribed Calendar
In the server field, input: ical.mac.com/ical/US32Holidays.ics - then tap Next
On the next screen, change the name of the calendar under "Description" if you choose - then tap Save
Then just uncheck the US Holidays calendar under Other and use the new subscribed calendar.

Itunes does not recognise ipad or iphone after window 8.1 patch May 2014

Last week my laptop did a patch update to windows 8.1 and now Itunes does not recognise my ipad or iphone when i plug them into the USB ports.
The devices do ask "to trust the computer" and Windows itself reconises the ipad and iphone and i can get to files on the apple products through windows but itunes doesnt see them and therefore doesnt sync therefore i cant download music onto my phone etc.
Ps i did uninstall itunes and reinstalled but this didnt work. Although after reading about other people with similar issues on past window updates I think I may need to uninstall all apple software .
I have an old Ipod 5G that works fine with Itunes.
Anybody with similar issues and a plan to get this sorted ?...... as i need music on my phone for holiday !!

well i perchased my phone from holiday in hong kong and have since been home and turned it on and phone calls work fine and i can recieve text messages but i cant send them i have been on the phone to orange and they have tryed to update my software with a few texts twice but still didnt work i cant ring nokia till monday so thought i would ask anyone on here thanks

it may not be the fw it might just be that in your message centre (menu-messages-options-text messages-message centre)
that your message centre number may be incorrect
to get the correct number ull need to just call ur network and ask them for the sms message centre number!

Switched from BB Torch 3 mths ago, not 100% satisfied, I'm trying...I plugged in my bfs Macpro to charge, I didn't get a prompt asking what I wanted to do(BB does), all my bfs txt msgs,pics were on my phone, EVERYTHING, my holiday pics R gone:( why

I don't understand why there wasn't a prompt to ask what I wanted to do, when my phone was plugged into my bfs computer. My BB always asked what I wanted to do, and in order to answer, I had to unlock my phone. I lost everything, from pics of us cutting down our tree, which was actually the top of a 17ft tree, and us holding it after we had trimmed it to the size we wanted... All pics of our holidays & New Years, which was our first year we got to spend it together, so they were really special to me. I have had my issues with not being able to go in the middle of a word, to correct spelling, and not having the keyboard like the torch, but I was trying my best to learn to love the iPhone, like anyone I know who has one, had told me I would come to love it. I am completely devastated over this, and I can not understand how this could have happened. Shouldn't I of had a prompt, asking me to restore my phone??? Something to notify me of what was going to happen...Anything, but it went ahead and changed my phone over, which even has the background/wallpaper choices of the iPhone5. I lost all my contacts, and my notes??? I have health problems and kept a record of everything, which I have done with my blackberry, and its all gone...every bit of it:( All my apps had my bfs AppleID and had to change all of that, and to my surprise, all my reminders came back the day after. How could this possibly have happened to me??? I had a lock on my phone, and if anything, I thought the iPhone would be the same as the blackberry when it came to that, but even better, and I was wrong, but I paid for my poor lack of judgement...to me, the price I paid for it, I will never forget it. When I saw the reminders had come back, I thought there may be a chance of recovering the rest of the data I lost on my phone....well, I am hoping, praying, there is a way to retrieve it all.
If anyone can help me with this, please, please, please, I would soooooo appreciate it...it means the world to me, and if its possible to do, I'll stay with iPhone:)

There was a prompt. It asked if you wanted to set it up as a new phone or restore from a backup. You, or someone, selected "Restore from Backup".
What were you backing it up to before you did this? If your computer, plug it in to your computer and restore.
If iCloud, go to Settings>General>Resets>Reset All Content and Settings. When it goes through the setup, tell it to restore it from your iCloud backup.
If nothing, then the content of your phone is gone.

I have tried resetting network connections and switching on/off wi-fi, and also reset using home and top button, still nothing.

Try going to the Wifi settings and clicking the little arrow next to your network, and click "forget this network" then try re-connecting. If that doesn't work, try going to settings-general-reset and clicking reset network settings. Also, make sure you have your network password correct if there is one.

Read your manual (you have a bookmark to it in Safari on your iPhone or put iBooks on your iPhone and download the manual from the iBookStore) and it will show you how to remove the microSIM from your iPhone. AT&T is not tourist friendly and does not offer a pay as you go plan for visitors with an iPhone. If you are going to be here for a short time you can probably buy a pay as you go microSIM and use it before AT&T notices, if it is going to be for a long time that won't work.
There is a 3rd party company that will sell you a microSIM that will work with AT&T but they are pretty pricey.
Finally, you can get a pay as you go microSIM from T-Mobile to work with your iPhone but you will only have EDGE data speeds.

If you've enabled PhotoStream, you should be able to find photos there. Otherwise, you are SOL.

You can't block it from use worldwide. Some carriers will block phones reported as stolen. I hope you had a passcode on it and that you had set the option to erase the phone after 10 failed tries. If you didn't change every password on every account ever accessed from the iPhone. And cancel any credit cards that you have used from the iPhone.

How to get national holidays to phone calendar (w/...

What should I do to get the national holidays to my N97 phone calendar? I do not use any PC calendar software except for Nokia PC Suite (thus not Outlook). Shouldn't there be a software package available to get the holidays?
Previously I did use Outlook to synch the holidays from there, but that resulted in duplicates and offset holidays due to time zone errors (holidays starting at 23:00). I do not use Outlook for anything today, thus I would not like to take that course.
Any solution available?

Photo stream pictures can be viewed only on the devices they were sent to. You can't transfer them back to your phone (or anywhere else). If you didn't back up or import the photos to a computer, and they are no longer on your phone, they're gone.

No phone service for entire holiday weekend for senior citizen

Phone service went out over 4th of July weekend and finally partial service on Sunday and better service on Monday, however there is static noise in the line and verizon acts like that is all right. There are bushes in alley that have grown so large that they are pulling wires down from their sheer size. 20 years ago the alley was maintained and kept clear, times change and now I can't remember the last time the alley was cleared...if verizon don't do anything about this stretch of wires between the 2300 block of Wilder/Gerritt Streets (South Philly) they will when they fall. Just a heads up to future problems.
