Phone randomly plays a little tune!

It's happened twice now. I'm doing nothing, and I think the phone is doing nothing. Then suddenly it plays this little tune. It's music, a bit like a ring tone but it's not. Firstly, I don't have this ringtone on my phone. I only have the standard ones. Secondly, nobody is phoning me. Nothing is happening. No email coming through. No event in the calendar. And no little red circles or pop-ups to notify me that Facebook or Nimbuzz or any other 3rd party app is doing something. My phone shows no abnormal activity, except playing this little tune for about 5 seconds. It doesn't cut out or anything, it's just a nice short little tune.
Does anybody have any idea what this is? It's only happened twice in a week (and I've had my phone for ages now and never had it happen before) but I'm really curious and also don't want to be missing out on something incase it's important.
Any ideas? It's an iPhone 3G and it has been running OS 3.0 since it was released.

This is the first time I hear such an issue. Are you sure that it is indeed the Music app on your iPhone which is responsible for the random playback? When you unlock the iPhone what application do you see open?

  • Will pick a song on ipod touch and then it will randomly play another song.  Is there a fix for this?

My daughter's ipod.  I know little about them.
She will select a song to play and then it randomly plays a different song.  Often with the picture for the original song displayed.  We've tried resetting and no better.
Is there anything else we can try?
    Thanks.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Phone Randomly Goes Black in iOS7.0.2

Ever since installing the update to 7.0.2, my phone randomly locks up then goes black and unresponsive for a time, no matter what I do to try to restart. After a few minute the phone restarts. The kicker is I though the update to iOS7.0.2 was supposed to decrease bugs, not create ones that didn't happen before!

    Hello Raymond Swanson,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I have a couple of things to recommend here. First, reset your iPhone with this article and see how it works for a little bit:
    Resetting your device
If your device stops responding, you can reset it by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
From: iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists after that, I would backup your phone to iTunes and then restore it from your backup.

    All the very best,

  • After loading the new OS now my songs do not play correctly. Titles are wrong on songs and it just doesn't play certain songs in random play or even if you select them individually. What's up? Kind of frustrating!!!

After loading the new OS my songs do not play correctly, is anyone else having this issue? Titles are wrong on songs and it just doesn’t play certain songs in random play or even if you select them individually. What’s up? Kind of frustrating!!!

I had the same issue.  In fact I posted it yesterday, but didn't get any replies.  I physically synched my phone to PC iTunes.  on the PC, under the phone/music tab, I unchecked the synch music box and then the apply button to remove all of the music from my phone.  Then once that synch finished, I went back and selected all music, and synch music and apply to put it back on to the phone.  So far, I haven't had an issue again, but I also haven't listened very long.  Hope this helps!

  • 3GS iOS6 randomly played static and now no sound works at all

I have a 3GS with iOS6.  After performing fine for a few weeks (got it used from my brother), it started randomly playing static out of the speaker.  I'd have to turn the phone on and off for it to stop.  Now, it all of a sudden stopped playing any sound - from the speaker, from the handset, and from headphones.  I have tried resetting several times to no avail.  Sometimes the sound will work for 2-3 seconds and then die again.
    Thanks for the help!

so i guess we're just screwed?? i understand machines running out of gas sometimes, it does happen, and i thought it was just my particular device. then i noticed how many posts there are mentioning this problem, so i thought i'd bring it up.
i was just hoping that since this is such a widespread issue, apple might have some sort of solution for all of us with the same problem.

  • Music randomly plays on Iphone

The music on my iphone keeps randomly playing even though I have not  pressed anything, and the app is not open.  Recently I even deleted all of my music from my phone to stop it but Apple has a few songs in my itunes, and now those play.  I have an iphone 4 and  ios7.1.  How do I stop this from happening?

  • Is random play  less random with 11?

    Yep,
due to the errors of iTunes 11, I stayed with 10 and finally updated last week. My mostly used playlist is intelligent one, being updated with songs not played the last couple of month and I usually use it with Random Play.
Since that update from iTunes 10 to 11.0.4, I do have the impression, that the RandomPlay does not work that good anymore. Lots of Interpreter do occure with 2 songs in a row. Sometime even more. I noted up to 5 songs from one Interpret one after another. I am still not sure whether this is accidential, but as I observe this now since the update (I am a every day music listener) and never ever before (I use iTunes since Tiger), I doubt it. And beside that effect, the list looks pretty random.
It may depends on the way how I do fill the PlayingNext, but I am not sure yet ...
Does anybody has observed the same? Any idea?
    1000Thx for your help!

    Yep,
meanwhile some days are gone and I almost was about to think that I was wrong with my assumption that random does not work that good anymore. But today I checked the list of songs being played next and found 11 Songs from one band in a row! Beside several other bands occuring 2, 3, 4 or 5 time in a row. I thought it might be sorted somehow, but I could not see anything. For sure it was no alphabetical order.
When I highlighted the PlayList, I could sort the songs as expected by doublecklicking the headline, but as soon as I clicked on random, the same odd playorder occured (up to 11 from one band in a row).
However, I noticed one thing ...
The list which shows all the titles, with interpreters, song duration, last played and so on, has a very first column which is just an ongoing numbering. With iTunes 10 this was the order in which those songs are being played, but now with iTunes 11, it looks different. It seems like it remains to be just a numbering and not a playorder at all. When checking that, I saw that the little loudspeaker jumped cross the list to every song whichever song is played. In iTunes 10, I could say "Play this list randomly" and the numbering in the first column was played one after another, as the songs were already listed in a random order.
May I stumble here over a different way of using iTunes between version 10 and 11.
Any idea or help to get back on track is highly appreciated!
    Greetz from Germany!

I had the same problem and did a reboot, for me that solved the problem.
    How to reboot your iPhone:
    1. Hold down the Home button (that’s the big button in the lower front) and the Sleep / Wake button (that’s the little button on the top right) down.
    2. Keep holding until you see the screen go black and then the Apple logo appear.
    3. Voila! Your iPhone has been rebooted. Resume your blissful life and forget that anything bad happened with your iPhone.

  • "Random" play doesn't work, stops after each song; multiple plays of same

One of the more annoying things happening: random doesn't work.
I've gone through the Zen Media Explorer, reformated the Zen player, so there were no songs on it.
Went and built a list of 37 songs and uploaded via Zen Media Player to the Zen player.
Went to "Music" and selected "All Tracks"
Set my "System" "Audio Settings" for "random" play.
I had to pick the first song to start it off.
It played the first 5 or so songs correctly.
    Then it stopped.
I used the bottom arrow key to "play" the next song. Then it stopped AGAIN.
Now I'm manually making each song play! This goes on for 4-5 songs, then it starts playing automatically - but repeating the songs it has already played. It does not go near the other 28 or so songs that I have not heard yet!
I go back to "Music" and re-set to "All Tracks"
I go back to "System" "Audio Settings" and re-set to play "random"
And it does this annoying routine all over again.
Went back to "System" "Audio Settings" and picked "normal" this time. So of course, its playing all the same songs I've heard over again.
I have to manually cruise the "All Tracks" to pick what I want to hear.
Can anyone help me with this? I can't stand it anymore.

If you installed any software to work with the mouse, remove it according to the developer's instructions, then restart the computer and test. Back up all data before making any changes.
