Phone recomendation?

I had been using a demo Samsung SGH-D600 phone that I just had to return (it was given to us to review for a technology podcast). I really liked the features, except that it didn't sync with my Powerbook, and from what people are saying here I shouldn't hold my breath. I do think it's time to upgrade my 8 year old Ericsson T28, and I also have an Ericsson T610 that synced, but the signal strength is terrible.
So, my long winded question is this: Is there any phone that someone can recommend that they think works particularly well with iSync, especially the calendar? My main requirements are bluetooth syncing of iCal and my Address Book. Anything with features like the Samsung D600 I had been using would be especially good, and I would get that phone in a heartbeat if it actually synced.
I know this might be sorta off topic, but any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
-Lewis

This is a very difficult question to answer because phones are such a subjective thing. Here's my experience which may or may not help.
I see a phone as a phone, rather than as a PDA. I have a computer for computing work, a 'phone to make 'phone calls. However, what I have always found convenient is the ability to view, edit and add address book, to-dos and calendar entries via the 'phone and seemlessly synch these to the computer.
I used to do this fine with a SE P900. When this died I thought I'd go for a smaller form factor and picked the Motorola Razr. What a mistake - I didn't realise that its "address book" actually wasn't - it only holds names and basic details, not the full address details.
I won't bore you with all the phones I considered. It seems to me that if you want the features I did, you are in smartphone territory. I ended up with a Nokia N70 which does the job perfectly - I'm very happy - it also synchs superbly with iCal and Address Book (it isn't officially supported by Apple but there's a very simple way to make it work that I came across on the web and would be happy to share if anyone is interested).
So, I would say make sure you know what you want from the 'phone, check it out, check to see if it can synch and then take your pick from the list that remains.

    I have some questions?
what is the meaning of automatic switching bands?
when a phone have dual sim card and automatic switching bands can receive calls of the two operators?
how is the nokia phone recomended  for you that have dual sim card?
if i want  only one phone for two operator whith both caracteristics how is the best recommended phone?
i do this question because in my country we have three operators of mobile
    thanks  for your help

Dual band supports GSM and 3g frequencies. GSM has a broad coverage while 3g supports faster downloads (HSDPA) but is not available in all areas. This has nothing to do with dual SIM.  There are special dual SIM adapters for e.g. E71

Hello. I have a new Iphone 5S and the charger taht came with the phone doesn´t charge my Iphone. The cable is good because I´m charging the phone via my PC. I tried every recomendation posted here but none helped me...I live in Argentina and we don´t have local support here, I would´ve ask for a new one but it´s not an option here. Does anyone know what can I do? Thanks in advance. Regards.

I live in China as well and my iPhone5s is the model A1530 I bougth outside China. I have the same problem as Nikatnight with the iPhone while the iPad Air (wifi only) is working like a charm. It must be definitely something related to the carrier since I was abroad few days ago and everything worked well.
If you pay attention at the source of your maps, you'll discover they are provided by AutoNavi instead of TomTom and make them appear in chinese with their own border interpretation. Queries are only acceppted in Chinese (p.e. if I type in english "Los Angeles International Airport"  it replies it cannot locate it)
I suppose everything will be fine when you'll be out of censorship....
Perhaps iOS  Apple Maps are absolutely useless for expatriate in China.
    Use Google Maps instead
BTW, I'm surprised how much Apple might prostrate towards hard power Governments.... No matter what, money are always on top!

  • HT201210 I tried to do an update to the Ios 5 but it failed tried to restore my iphone however all im left with is an image of itunes with a usb connector please help as my phone will no longer work!!

Hi I tried to do an update on my Iphone 4 hardware but it failed (dont knoyw why) I followed instructions to restore my Iphone unfortunatel all im left with is an image of itunes with a usb and a dead phone can someone help???

Hey, I aggree with Tempelton for the most part, but if you are an advanced user on the computer on the phone, there is one thing you can try. There is a program called RecBoot, which might help you, and here is a page that might help you. http://jaxov.com/2010/05/recboot-iphone-recovery-mode/ If you are not an advanced user, I would NOT recomend using RecBoot, and just proceeding with the restore. A little consolation could be that you probably had Photo Stream on, and you might have been backing up to iCloud, which should mean you'll have some stuff after the resote. Sorry this happened!

  • IP Phone Service SDK Yellow Pages url error

I am trying out the sample ip phone services applications in the IP phone service SDK, the standalone ones seem to work fine, but most of the ones that connect to the internet such as the Yellow Pages Application and the Weather application give errors ranging from 404 page not found to service URl Error errors once it tries to access the internet. It seems that the last url that the service tries to access over the internet is invalid/outdated, etc. Does anyone have any recomendations or a fixed copy of these apps that actually work that they can share? I downloaded the latest 4.1.1 SDK, of which the only services that access the internet that seem to work are the Cisco Stock ticker and stock quotes. The others all seem to be really buggy. Anyone have any thoughts?

    Hi David,
What firmware are you using? Do you have 8945s on the other sites? I found a bug, but I'm not sure it applies to your description:
    CSCty58000 Bug Details
8945 freezes when directories is pressed
    Symptom:
8945 freezes when directories button is pressed.
    Conditions:
This issue happens when the phone load is 9.2.3 and the directories URL doesn't contain port number.
    Workaround:
Please use http://X.X.X.X:8080/ccmip/xmldirectory.jsp for the directories
    URL instead of http://X.X.X.X/ccmip/xmldirectory.jsp
You can try upgrading to firmware 9.3(1)
    Regards,
    Tere.

I'm trying to sync my phone but for some odd reason it's not listed in devices in iTunes. I've followed all of Apple Support recomendations to no avail. Could it be a new security app I imnstalled today. Please help and thanks in advance.

If you still cannot restart it, check this Apple support document, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567 if that doesn't work, then you may need to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it. Follow the instructions in this support document to remove them from Windows XP http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925

  • 802.1x trouble: Can't get Nortel IP Phone to authenticate to NPS server through HP ProCurve switch

I've been working on getting 802.1x set up.  I've so far gotten WinXP clients to authenticate through our HP ProCurve switch to the NPS server using PEAP/EAP-MSCHAPv2, and to put different authorized users on different VLANs based on AD Groups, as well
as unauthorized users onto a separate VLAN.  Also, the switch is using the NPS server for securing management logons.
However, when I configure and plug in a Nortel phone, I can see the EAP packets going to the switch, which then send the Access-Request message to the NPS server.  On the NPS server, I can see that the NIC receives the Access-Request packet, but it
never responds to it.  When I compare the packet to an Access-Request packet from a WinXP client, the only differences I can see are User-Name (1), Port (5), Port-ID (87), Calling-Station-ID (31) and the EAP-Message (79), which to me are the fields that
*should* be different.  I can also see that the packet is coming in on the correct port (1812).  Nothing gets logged in Event Viewer, nor in the NPS log (c:\windows\system32\logfiles\inDDMMYY.log).
It's my understanding that at least, I should be getting an IAS_NO_POLICY_MATCH in the log, as I haven't set up a policy for it yet.  Also, if I set up a dummy policy to accept all requests on all days and times, using any authentication method, I still
    get nothing.
The phone is set to use PEAP, but if I understand correctly, even if that was set wrong, I should at least see an Access-Challenge response packet from the server; PEAP doesn't factor in quite that early.  Or do I misunderstand?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply.
    > At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    > auditpol /set /subcategory:"Network Policy Server" /success:enable /failure:enable
I had read about that previously.  I had checked whether it was enabled or not, and it only had failure enabled.  So following the recomendation on that
page, I disabled both, then enabled both.  So yes, it's currently enabled.  And after this, I tried both the PC and phone again, and while I saw the PC's authentication succeed in the Event Log, I still see nothing for the phone.
    > PEAP does not specify an authentication method, but provides additional security for other EAP authentication protocols, such as Extensible
Authentication Protocol-Microsoft Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol version 2 (EAP-MS-CHAP v2), that can operate through the TLS encrypted channel provided by PEAP.
    Yeah, but
if I understand correctly (and I'm going to read your link right after I post this), after the switch sends the initial Access-Request message in the clear, the RADIUS server should then respond with an Access-Challenge to begin securing the connection beween
itself and the phone, regardless of what the phone has set for it's security type.  If the phone can't talk in a way that the server is set to accept, then it won't respond to the Access-Challenge packet, but the server should be sending that Access-Challenge
in the first place.  Or is there something I've missed in the Access-Request packet that specifies what security type(s) it can handle?  I thought that happened after the Access-Challenge?
    > Please also provide us the type of your Nortel IP Phone, because some types of Nortel IP Phone may only support EAP-MS-CHAP v1 which is not supported by Windows
2008. We also suggest that you might post your issue on Nortel forums to ask for some more help.
    I'm
using a Nortel 1120e phone for testing; we also have 1140e phones that will be used with this when it's working, but they should be the same as far as this setup is concerned.  I read somewhere that perhaps the Nortel phones only support PEAP-MD5, which
doesn't seem to be an option in NPS without a reghack.  I'm also following up with our Nortel support locally, as the phone itself and the manual for the phone only says "PEAP" without specifying what it's using inside, but right now I'm trying to determine
whether the problem lies with the phone or the server or both.  So I thought I'd ask the experts here.
    FWIW,
I've been testing using a HP ProCurve 3400cl with the lastest firmware.  I've managed to get the same setup on a Cisco Catalyst 3550 switch, also on it's latest firmware, and I get the same results.  The PCs can authenticate, the phone can't; NPS
    still isn't responding.

  • Recommendations for a Bluetooth iSynch-capable cell phone Not Motorola

    Hi all,
I am in the market for a new phone that willl enable me to interact with iCal and Address Book. I have always hated the Motorola menu systems, currently have a Sony Ericcson Z500, and had great success a long time ago with Nokias in the Wintel environment. I really want something that allows me to use whichever device (phone, MBP) is appropriate in the moment, without risk of screwing up the synching, etc. I'm betting there's tons of experience on this list, and I'm confident that you people will send me loads of advice and tips, all gratefully recieved!
Best regards, and thanks in advance!

upto a few weeks ago i would have also recomended a new sony phone however if you do a search here for M600i one of the new phones you will find that it does not work with Isync and there is confusion as to if it ever will, before considering a new sony please check if you can sync it first otherwise it could be a very expensive mistake,
i have heared good things about teh nokia phones but i have never used one - but agree anything but Motorola,
    hope this helps

Since no one here can possibly know what you specifically mean by "tried everything that other people are saying", no one can determine what you did wrong.  Also, you didn't say what computer OS you use.
Read and follow ALL recomendations in the following aritcle appropriat for your computer:

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X

    hello?

    Hello Danielx566,
It sounds like your phone is not charging at all and is now unable to turn on because of it. I recomend these troubleshooting steps in the following article named:
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
    Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge for up to 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue is persists, please contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Help choosing new phone please

    hello people
Can i ask you for your recomendations on a new phone i have tryed a couple of upgrades now and sent them both back and im now tearing my hair out lol.
all i need is a phone that looks nice,
makes calls without turning itself off (n73 lol)
    has a good camera,
and has operating system that is compatible with tomtom navigation 5.2 or 6
the two phones i had were 6280 lovely phone but cannot use tomtom on it
and n73 best phone yet but just couldnt answer calls without it rebooting
im on orange and wondered if all the probs i'd had with the n73 were due to orange. looking arround peoples comments on here i wasnt the only one the have the phone shutting down
is it all s60 phones that are un reliable?
Your comments will be greatfully read and hopefuly ill get to upgrade to a good phone.
oh sorry my current phone is 6280 running tomtom and doing what i want but its just getting a bit tired now
    many thanks martin

According to the TomTom v6 compatibility list, the choices are the N80 or the E61.
I know nothing about the E61 (and I'm too lazy to look) except that it's aimed at business users so probably doesn't have all the consumer toys I'd want.
I had a really dire time for the first few months with N80, however the latest firmware release (v4) has turned it right around: now that things are working (for me) it's a pretty impressive phone. The only gripes I have are battery life, which is not great, but I've gotten used to and the camera, which is a little disappointing, though that could be because there is no lens cover and since the lens sits exactly where my fingers want to be, there's probably half a pound of finger grease distorting the images.
I'd be tempted to hang on until January and get the N95, however you just know that's going to take 6 months of pain before it's bedded down.

  • S20, need upgraded PSU to support GPU upgrade, recomendations?

    Hello All,
I'm trying to track down a suitible PSU upgrade from the 625w AcBel, that was stock on my S20, to something in the 850w rangs (800 - 900). The 10-pin EPS (CPU power supply) on the MoBo is making finding anything aftermarket difficult. I see that the C20 has an 800w PSU. I'm trying to find out if it is compatible and if so the part #. The IBM Phone system has been a little les that productive so far.
Any product recomendation would be greatly appreciated (aftermarket or manufacturer spec).
Thanks for your time - NHC
BTW - The new GPU I'm trying to power is just a AMD 6970, it's crashing after about 45 min. of strenuous use. All drivers are updated, temps are good, and system checks all come up positive. Hence my hypothesis of being slihtly underpwered. The PSU calc. I ran came up with an estimated requirement of 560w so running the old 625 is cutting things a bit close.
    Thanks again
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I can just about guarantee you that power is not your problem.  From what I can find, the 6790 requires 2 x 6pin power connectors.  These connectors supply ~75W each.  With 75W from the board (by spec), this card theoretically maxes out at 225W.  Based on the specs of the card, I would say the max power is actually well below that.
S20 can easily support a 225W card, along with another standard 75W card as well.  So power on this rail is plentiful, and is unlikely to be the cause of your problem....especially since I don't think your card is anywhere near 225W.
As Erik stated, drivers is where you want to focus.  Desktop/gaming cards aren't workstation class cards, are are well known to be more buggy/crash-prone (though ideally not as bad as what you're experiencing).

  • Opinion on N81...Plzz Help..(To buy a new phone)

    Heya..
For those who are well educated on phones, i would really like some information regarding the N81..
    Firstly..
1)Whats the difference between the N81 and the N81 8GB besides the space(gb)??
    2)Are there any major problems with either N81 or N81 8GB ??
3)Between these 2 models, which one is more recomended ??
Information would really be appreaciated.. Thanks loads in advance..

    1) The only differences other than the 8GB of memory is that the standard N81 has a memory card slot, the N81 8GB doesn't have a card slot. The colour of the trim is also different but thats it.
    2) Not noticed many serious problems but a few people have said that it's camera is poor. A few people have also had trouble with the navi wheel failing so make sure you get a warranty.
    3) If 8GB is enough for you buy the N81 8GB. If you are going to need more space for music or video by the N81 as you can carry extra memory cards. It will accept an 8GB memory card and possibly support 12GB and 16GB cards when they are released.
