Phone resets itself to January 1980

For the past five days or so, my iPhone 5 (os 7.0.4) will arbitrarily reset itself to January 5, 1980; this happens only at home.  The phone could be charging, or not charging.  It's completely arbitrary.
Upon a hard shutdown (home key/power off) and restart, the date and time will reset itself back to current.
I've got a visit to the Mac store later today, but I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue, what it was and how it was solved.
Thanks much.

I am having a similar issue with my iPhone and my son is having the exact same issues on his Droid HTC and it took me two people and nearly two hours to convince those Verizon folks it isn't the device.  I am almost certain it has to do with the local tower near our home.  My son went to work which was about 30 miles away and he didn't have one issue.  As soon as he got home, he was back at 11/15/2013 even though it was 12/14/2013.  The problem is intermittent, all of a sudden everything works and a few hours later, I can't text, receive texts, calls go directly to voicemail so if it is one of those annoying people who thinks I am just going to see their missed call and immediately call them back-well they are surprised and ticked off when I don't.  Can't call someone back when I don't know they called which is a darn shame since I use my cell 100% for work and I am self employed.  Right now it is 1:23am on 12/15/13 in California but my phone says it is 11/16/13 at 10:18am.  I tried call my cell from my landline and it goes right to voicemail.  I type a text and hit send and nothing is in the history but at some point it does go through but never shows up on the history, annoying especially when you are trying to communicate with your teen and I can't remember exactly what I wrote.  I use my phone as my watch, my alarm clock, etc. so that's an issue....  And the worst part is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I can't play Candy Crush Saga because it says I have to wait over 42,000 minutes, thats about a month for those who are interest.  And yes, my son is having every single issue once he got home from work, including the exact date and time error I have but yet Verizon still thinks it is my device.  Really?  I was told there was a ticket established to escalate/solve this issue but I have my doubts based on my interactions and the fact it took me two hours and two people to convince it wasn't my device before they would take this issue to the next level.  The Verizon folks are getting paid for that time but I am not and I am paying Verizon.  What's wrong with this picture?

I took some photos and video at a friends wedding and I cloud backup was on, unfortunately my i phone reset itself and I cannot locate the photos on the i phone or i cloud backup, can you help. Thanks

If the photos and video are not on the phone or in a backup, then there isn't anything you can do.

  • Phone reset itself?

So my iPhone 4 ran out of battery, I put it on charge, waited for the phone to boot and next thing I see is that the phone had somehow reset itself and restored to a backup?
Could this possibly be hardware damage? Or just a glitch?
    Thanks.
Oh and, the phone was used when I bought it.

Do you have a recent backup for this phone? If yes, get your iPhone serviced or replaced and restore from that backup.

  • Phone resetting itself

So for awhile now (since I bought it two weeks ago), my phone has been randomly resetting itself, sometimes even wiping the data from itself so that I have to connect it to the computer and restore it from a backup before I can even make a call with it. I checked it out and I guess that I need to get it exchanged, which I can do once I go back home over the Thanksgiving break as the closest apple store is two hours away.
This was just a minor annoyance, as I could still use the phone almost all of the time, however this evening it has started to reset itself over and over so that it won't even boot up all the way, it just flashes the Apple logo over and over.
Is there any way that I can manually shut it off so it will break this cycle? Going through the normal ways of doing this aren't working, and I was wondering if there was a hard reset for it, as it isn't even usable in this condition.
    Please help!

I took mine into an Apple Store just yesterday becuase of a similar issue. They reset it in the store. They suggested that I retore "As a new phone" in iTunes becuase the software issue was probably in my backup data too. It's basically like getting a new phone. When you sync your phone, you'll have to go through each tab in iTunes to add apps, music, etc back to your phone. If you have anything that you want to keep, save it somewhere else before you let them do it. My phone has been great since.

Hi! I'm new here and not that knowledgeable about the workings of the whole BB system. I have an unlocked BB8220 pearl flip phone.  I used my WIFI  (no data plan) to download the BB world App (i think this might be part of the problem) my BB keeps going to a black screen, then white with clock(resetting) and the red light comes on when i'm in the middle of something. I deleted the App, removed the battery but this has not fixed the problem. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You will need to use JL_Cmder to wipe the device and subsequently load the OS to the device. Follow the instructions here:

  • My phone reset itself.

Okay, so like, I was just there, using my phone, minding my own business. Then suddenly my phone shuts down! And when I turned it back on, everything was... gone. ): My apps, games, images, my contacts, I can't access the internet... EVERYTHING!! Everything just effed up when I turned it back on. Can someone please help me? My phone's a C3-00. I'm desperate. )))):

    Hi,
It sounds like a hardware fault, you should bring it to a Nokia Care Center and have them check it out.
    Good luck

  • My iPhone4 reset itself

I have had my iPhone 4 for two years now without trouble until today.  Earlier this morning, it said that my passcode had expired and that I needed to reset it.  I entered it and it was working great for about two hours.  Then when I went to use it, for the third time after resetting my passcode and entering the new passcode, it would no longer accept my new passcode.  Caps weren't on, I was entering it correctly, it was in my purse the whole time so someone else couldn't have reset it, no other reasonable explanation as to why it wouldn't work.  Then about an hour later, I tried re-entering my new passcode and the phone reset itself.  It is now asking for an Apple iCloud ID and Password, but the problem is that I never had an Apple iCloud ID.  What the heck is going on?  How do I fix it?

Sorry, this didn't help.  I don't know what happened, but the same exact thing happened to about a hundred of my co-workers over the weekend.  We all have gotten our iPhones at different times in the last two years, but on Sunday we all got the notification to reset our passcodes, we all reset them successfully and we all were able to use our iPhones for about 4 hours when it no longer accepted our passcodes, at which time they all were wiped.  If the passcodes never worked or if it only happened to me, I would think that I entered the wrong passcode.  But to a hundred people on the same day?  Too odd.  Not sure if it was a software bug or a virus, but whatever happened was catastrophic.  Our email admin created a step-by-step procedure and passed it out to everyone so we could reconfigure our iPhones.

  • N95, V20.0.015, phone trying to reset itself

    Hi,
I upgraded my N95 to new version which is V20.0.15. Sometimes while using GPS, or trying to use games it resets itself. But cant open the phone. When its desktop appears, it resets again. To stop this, Im removing the battary, waiting a bit then opening the phone again. Is there anybody facing with this problem? Is there any way to avoid this?
    Regards.

    Hi gyucel
With reference to GPS do you mean Nokia maps application crashes whilst trying to "calculate route"?

If you are not a developer:
You have to restore your phone.
    Open iTunes
    Plug in your phone
Hold down the home button and power button at the same time
When the screen goes black let go of the power button but not the home button
    Restore the iPhone
    Wait for about an eternity
Tell god you are sorry you stole from apple in the summer and you will never do it again.

  • I have a iPhone 4 that will not stop resetting itself on its own this is my fourth phone and the second to have this problem

I have a iPhone 4 that will not stop resetting itself on its own this is my fourth phone and the second to have this problem. I have AT&T so I need to post here instead of actually being held to get help on a Sunday night. this is a extremely frustrating situation as I count on this phone for business.

Are you restoring your phone from a previous back up? If so there could be a problem within the back up. Try restoring your phone as a new device and then manualy reinstall all apps.

  • Why does my 4s phone mute itself? I've reset the setting like other posts have suggested.

Why does my 4s phone mute itself? I also have a hard time hanging up after a call. The screen goes blank like it's in a sleep mode. I have to use 2 hands to make it hang up--one to hold the home button and the other to hit the end bar. I've "Reset All Settings" in General Settings like other posts have suggested. This worked for a short period of time but now the phone is back to muting itself. Why does this happen?

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as NEW.
If you've been through ALL these steps and you still have problems, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple.

  • I had my phone reset after it had disabled itself and all my music i had paid for is gone is there anyway of getting them all back without having to pay for them again?

Depending upon what country that you are in (and if you haven't changed countries since buying it and it's still in your store) then you might be able to redownload it via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your phone.
You should also be regularly connecting your phone to your computer's iTunes and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases so as to copy all of your downloads over so that you can take a backup copy of them (and preferably taking a backup of the phone if you have any important documents and/or photos on it) - apps and other downloads could also be potentially be removed from a country's store at any time, so you may not be able to redownload them either.
