Phone rings once then stops.

Greetings everyone.
There seems to be a strange old problem with the phone. Whenever someone tries to call, it rings once then goes quiet. I did a test from my mobile and it seems that somehow the phone gets 'picked up' by magic for a few seconds, cos my mobile got charged for it!!
Before you ask, I tried to old test socket and same result.
Tried the 2 phones we have independently and the same result.
Disconnected the home hub and the same result.
Regarding dialling out, it seems 100% fine, so this problem is a strange old one!
I called the BT fault line and the person said it MIGHT be related to my equipment and I'll get charged if I call the engineer. Hopefully, that won't be the case cos I booked the engineer already!
It would be much apperciated if anyone can help me regarding the fault, or whether I will be charged or not for the engineer appointment.

I do not have the type of socket that allows the test you describe. I have explained this to BT India numerous times but always get asked to carry out the test. I had two ring trips this morning and so again rang BT and this time asked to speak to customer services. After some haggling they put me through. However, BT customer services refuse to become involved in line faults and I was transferred back to India, where I was once again asked to carry out the same ritual tests. The end result was that they would 'monitor' the line over the weekend (whatever that means). In the meantime, I received a ring trip call at 17.15 which rendered the line unusable for the next two hours. We checked the line every hour and it was working again two hours later. What I can't understand is that we had an engineer visit about two weeks ago, he said he detected a fault at the exchange but he did not replace the socket we have with a modern one. Who is responsible for this?

Landline rings once then stops

Hi - Had this problem for some time but whereas it was intermitent, it has now become almost permanent.
As the title states, the phone rings once then cuts out. If i answer before it cuts out then i can speak to the caller.
No problems dialling out.
I also notice that when someone calls, the broadband light goes off for about 30 seconnds.
Also sometimes it does not ring at all and an "error in connection" message will be displayed on the callers handset.
If i don't answer in time then phone connects to caller after about one ring.
I have done some tests-unplugged everything and plugged phones directly into master socket (behind cover plate)
Phone works ok when i do this.
Any help appreciated.

Yes, quite possibly the cause of the disconnection when an incoming call arrives.
Only connection numbers 2 and 5 are needed, as 3 and 4 are no longer needed, and can upset your broadband.

My iPhone 3GS has stopped Ringing and only now Vibrates. Any ideas please to what the fault maybe or how I can get the ringing back. I've checked settings and all ok. The other day it did ring once then went to vibrate

Recently my iPhone 3GS has stopped ringing all of a sudden. I've checked the settings and nothing has been changed. I've also made sure the switch on the side is not on silent/vibrate too.
The other day it rang once then went to vibrate.

There are two places where vibrations can be set.
One is the Settings > Sounds
The other area is Settings > Notifications
If you have an app set to Alert, it may have a vibration set for it.

Motion plays once then stops responding

Have all upgrades, run on quad 2.5, 8 gigs ram. Motion would continiously play (stop button would not work), then stop responding. Now, it will play once then not respond. Have not reinstalled software, but did trash pref files. Suggestions?

Thanks Patrick... on all projects... but did re-install Motion, and not responding has not happened. But many times, it still will not stop playing. I have to wait unitl it plays to the end mark. Ideas?

Safari bounces once then stops ...

I have looked through the forum and found nothing, so I am hoping that someone can help me out. I have a user with a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 who started having Safari, Software Update and the Dashboard constantly crashing. When you select either Safari or Software Update, they bounce once then quit. I have reinstalled Safari and no fix. Removed the plist file and still no fix. I even copied a known working version of Safari and no fix. Here is the crash report for safari and software update:

Hi,
It sounds like a dependent library has gone missing or has become corrupt.
Try re-installing the 10.4.6 combo update over the users existing installation to see if it replaces to problematic files.

My LG phone rings twice then goes to voice mail

The people that call say my phone rang at least 7 times than went to voice mail. I hear two rings and before I answer it the call is gone.

Do you have any call blocking apps that might interfere? Is this a basic or smartphone?

Face time rings once then fails.

Face Time gives a ten second ring then a failure message on outgoing calls.
Incoming calls get the message that "facetime failed Duncan Stewart is not available for Facetime"

You must have a separate, individual e-mail address assigned to each device. if you use the same e-mail address, they will not be able to communicate with each other. It's like picking up your telephone and dialing your own number, you'd get a busy signal.

Firefox won't startup. Icon bounces once then stops. Mac G5 Mac OS 10.5.8 Was OK now it isn't.

Firefox won't startup so I can get to its preferences, profiles or anything else for that matter. This happens every time I try to start it up. I've recently reloaded my system software and transfered my systems settings from a backup hard drive that Time Machine (Mac app.) saved.

IPhone 6 rings once...then goes to voicemail

This started yesterday. Incoming calls ring once then go to voicemail. Any ideas?

Next step would be resetting.
Start by holding the home and sleep button for about 10sec, until the Appel logo comes back again. You will not lose data doing a reset this way, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, resetting the network settings would be the next step. Go to Settings/General/Reset/Network settings to do that.

Phone Rings-Ruins Good Setup

I have an issue with my wireless setup. Whenever the phone rings, the signal will get interrupted. Let me explain my setup first. I have an APX base station (flat N style router) in the bedroom that provides the wireless signal to my MacBook, iMac and AppleTV. I also have an Airport Express in the living room that is connected to the XBox 360 by ethernet. The Express is connected by WDS. Believe it or not, everything works pretty well until the phone rings. Then the AppleTV will stop playing, web pages will stop loading, and XBox Live will become interrupted, etc. I have tried switching channels but ever since I connected the Express, when I change a channel, it will completely screw up the setup to where the Express doesn't even register in Airport Utility. Would it be worth it to go around the house and individually unplug each cordless phone until I can determine where the interference is coming from? I like to think I'm pretty good at a lot of things, but when it comes to networking and the like, the word "struggle" doesn't even begin to describe it. Thanks in advance for any help.

The problem is that 2.4 GHz handsets interfere with 802.11b/g wireless networks.
The solution is to get rid of the 2.4 GHz handset.
Replace it with a 5.8 GHz or 900 MHz handset.

That is a carrier feature - contact your cell phone provider.

Anyone know how to receive text message as vibe only while phone ringer is still on?

I want to receive texts as vibe only while phone ringer is still on. If I select no sound for text it is completely silent and I get no warning other than to keep looking at my screen. If i turn phone ringer off, then I get vibe only texts, but I want vibe only text while ringer is still on.
