Phone shut down & won't turn back on

I was talking on my phone this morning for about 5 minutes and when I took the phone away from my ear to end the call, the screen was just black. I charged my phone overnight so it had a full battery. However, now it will not turn back on even when it's been on the charger for 30+ minutes. I've tried plugging it into my computer and still...nothing. I could see if the battery had died and the charger was faulty, but like I said it had a FULL battery when I took it off the charger not even an hour before the 5 minute phone call was made. I've even held the power button for 2 minutes, taken out the SD card and chip, pressed the volume up/down buttons, anything I can think of and nothing has helped. Has anyone else had this issue before? I plan to stop by a Verizon store today to see if they can help and will post whatever results in case it will be helpful to someone else, but it'd be nice if anyone had a suggestion before I venture there! Thanks!

Please Do not Plug that Phone into the Computer it Worthless Me an Jim have been telling ones to Use the Charger that Comes with Phone It's specified for it to Charge it Properly.  I just hope you didn't damage your Razr By charging it on the Computer.

my phone was fully charged and suddenly shut down and wont turn back on
    iPhone 4

    Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps for unexpected power off issues found in the article below.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Issue not resolved
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

I turned my phone off and won't turn back on or do anything

Plug in to a wall outlet and be sure it has some charge, then check http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281 and if that doesn't help, a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, should take about 10-15 seconds, and if that doesn't work, visit an Apple store genius bar for testing by the techs.

  • IBook will suddenly shut down and not turn back on

My iBook (apporx. 5 yrs. old) will suddenly shut down while I'm working and not back on. Most of the time after it's been turned off for days it won't turn back on, although it's plugged in and the battery is charged 100%. But on the occations it does power up, everything works properly. Could my battery be completly shot?
    iBook   Mac OS 9.0.x

I too have that problem, but since apple replaced my battery for free, it still does that. I once heard that once your iBook reaches a certain temperature, it will just turn off the screen. usually when it happens to me, I just restart my machine the old way (control-apple-power), but it isn't so good either from what I understand! it is a bad way to work, but until apple fixes the bug, we'll just have to live!
(ps) is there any reason you still run os 9 (cause it is officially discontinued as of 2004)? you should be able to purchase mac OS X (10.2 or 10.3) from ebay or your local mac repair shop (we fix macs in palo alto, ca probably sells it still) I just wanted to inform you of this since you obviously had no idea!

  • IMac Shut Off - Won't Turn Back On (Fully)

So, last night I was using my last-iteration iMac and it randomly shut off. I tried to power it back on... and it wouldn't. I then felt the back of the case and it was very hot. I figured it was an overheating issue, but now it won't turn back on. When I hold down the power button, it begins to start up and I can hear it "clicking" then it shuts down. It restarts itself, and I can hear a very low hum. Something is running inside of it, and the disc drive will spin if I put a disc in, but it's not turning on fully. I tried several different troubleshooting techniques with the main problem being nothing will appear on the monitor so a few of them are out of reach. I also tried booting to the boot disc and, again, nothing will appear on the screen. I did the one power reset which caused my fans to blow loudly and I had to, again, fix that, but... yeah. It starts up, shuts itself off, starts back up and something works but I can't tell what is whirring in there. The computer is only about six months old, but I didn't take out the Apple Care so I'm extremely frustrated, as it is well-cared for and this issue seems extremely random. Thanks in advance to anyone that can provide help.

    Hi Jonathan
Your iMac is warranteed for the first year so you are covered. Applecare extends that to three years but in your case you didn't need to buy it to cover this issue. Call apple and make an appointment to bring it in.

  • My phone shut off and wont turn back on

my iPhone4 shut off and won't turn back on...what do i do?

It could just be the power. Apple says you should completely drain the battery and completely recharge it at least once a month. When completely drained, as they say, it takes a bit after being plugged in again for the iPhone to start responding again.

  • What can i do if my phone just randomly shuts down and wont turn back on?

what can i do if it wont turn back on?

    Try resetting it:
Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.

  • Iphone 4 shut down, won't turn on, won't charge and heating

I have the iPhone 4 only for 3 weeks now, the first day I bought it, the phone restart automatically every 3-5 minutes when I plugged it in into the computer, did a hard reset, restore to original setting and upgrade and didn't work. So I send it back to the distributor to fix it - so there go my 1st week of iphone 4 purchase. After a week got the unit back, it was ok for about 10 days or so until 2 days ago, I noticed that the phone won't charge over the night when I plug it into the wall charger. And yesterday I placed it for a charge over the night, this morning I noticed the battery is only 22% and when i pulled out the charger it shuts down. When I plug it back in, it came back on again, however not charging, and shuts down again after I pulled it out. Same thing with the computer plug. Tried to hard reset, but won't work, won't even turn on. So I plug it in and ran the BatteryDoctor app, it seems to fix the problem as it start chargin again, although my Iphone got quite warm in this process. That was morning. Now, the thing shuts down automatically, though the battery was still 40%, did a hard reset and won't work. So plugging it into the computer, it came back on, and again shuts down when it is pulled out, however this time hard reset works. This is starting to worry me. Is this a hardware problem?? I some threads that  people are having a shut down problem also. HELPPP!

Ok, so I went to try that and run the program it said I needed .Net Framework 4.0 installed, so I was on my way to update that so I could try to run the program.
Anyway, before I did that, a coworker comes by and I show her that my phone is dead. I unplug it from my computer (it's not charging or anything) and I start pressing the power button rapidly to show her it's dead. All of a sudden the screen turns on and shows me that the battery is drained and needs to be recharged. I quickly connect my phone back to the computer and it begins charging. After a few minutes the Apple logo appear and it is detected on my computer! It is currently charging and is seen in iTunes. All is well again.
What's weird is that I know for a FACT that the battery was not dead when the update was done. In fact the phone showed FULL battery right before I unplugged it the first time.
I don't know if it was a combination of the steps above or what, but whatever it was, I appreciate everyone's input.

  • My iphone shuts down and wont turn back on. any help please

my iphone shuts down by itself and wont turn back on, what should i do?

If you didn't see anything at all your phone has defective hardware. Connect to the charger again, and while connected hold both buttons. If the phone comes back on, but goes off when you disconnect the charger, you have a bad battery. If it doesn't come on at all you have a hardware failure of the phone. If you see any instructions on the screen, such as an image of a phone connecting to iTunes, follow them; your phone may need to be restored.

  • My iPhone 4 shuts off, won't turn back on until connected to computer.

The phone is fully charged but won't turn on despite holding the home and top button for up to 30 seconds.
This started yesterday, where I noticed that the phone would shut off at 70% battery and not turn back on. I connected it to my computer and the Apple logo pops up, and after a few seconds (sometimes a few minutes) it goes back to the normal home screen.
So I completely reset the phone to factory settings and the phone seemed to be fine for an hour, to an hour and a half, until I stopped using it. I looked at the phone maybe 10 minutes later, and it was back to being dead again.
I charged it fully overnight again, and when I unplugged the phone and walked away briefly and came back, it was off again.
Any ideas, beside trying to reset it again? The battery life has been bad lately, so I was thinking of buying a new battery anyway, but if its not just a battery issue, then its not worth buying the battery.
    Thanks.

    More info:
I plugged it in again earlier today after coming across the same problem and it briefly flashed the "no power" symbol before rolling over to the Apple logo and starting up to 100%. So I would guess its battery-related?

Hi sunny988: Try this: Push and hold the Sleep/Power button and the Home button for approximately 15-20 seconds. This procedure will reset the phone.
    Hope this helps

  • Imac power issue - randomly shuts down & won't turn on again

    Hello
Just wondering if anybody could help us with this issue as the Apple Genius's failed to...
Our early 2006 Intel Imac has recently started to switch off at random times. There doesn't seem to be any particular point at which it will do this and no warning either. It's as if somebody has pulled the plug out but the power supply has not been touched! It then often won't allow you to switch it on again until you have left it over night - or sometimes it will switch on after a few minutes.
It is very frustrating as you never know when it might happen, it has been ok for a couple of weeks but now it has done it twice in the last two days.
We did take it to the Apple Store, who said they had kept it on for a day and could not replicate the issue so therefore there is nothing they can do...
If anybody can shed any light on this mystery it would be VERY much appreciated.
    Thank you!

Hello and welcome to the club of "random shut down".
Since 8 days I am also having this problem on an early 2006 2 GHz intel core duo with OS 10.4.11 After approx. 5-10 minutes it shuts down and the only way to wake up again is to disconnect the plug, wait 10 sec and connect it again and push the start button on the back.
There a many discussions ongoing and also many suggestions (SMC reset, memory replacement, change the power cord etc.). Nothing really worked in my situation. My assumption is something with overheating, but the widget "istatpro" or "tempmonitor" are showing not more than 35°C on the CPU at a max.
I found a little tool called "smcFanControl" to adjust the minimum speed of the fans (my settings: ODD 2850 rpm, HDD 3150 and the CPU fan at 2160 rpm) and since that adjustment the working period seems to be much longer. Sure, there is an annoying noise now, but I can use the imac again.
Hope that there will be a better solution soon.

  • IPod touch shuts down constantly, cant turn back on

I bought a 3g 32gb iPod touch less than 2 weeks ago, and i think i may have a faulty battery. If it is in sleep mode it will quite often turn itself right off or freeze. Once it does, I can't turn it back on. Any button i press is unresponsive, even when i try a reset. If i try to charge/sync to the computer, i get the low battery symbol, even though it is fully charged. I can't get it to turn on most of the time, except occasionally when i hook up the usb cord, i will get lucky and it will turn on.
When connected to a computer, itunes doesn't register that an ipod is attached.
After every random shut down, the time/date is set to dec 31/69 at 5:00. Any ideas?

I personally would return it if it's so new.
If you don't want to return it I would try restoring it to factory specs, but how will that last if it helps? A day, a month, forever? No one knows.

  • Was using Ipad and put in sleep mode and it has shut down and wont turn back on

I was using my Ipad last night and put into sleep mode when finished.  Was charged at 98% and now will not turn back on.  I have tried resetting but nothing works.

    Resetting like this?
Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen Then let go of the buttons and let the iPad start up.
