Phone shutdown, home+power reset not working, other options?
Hey all,
I was just on the phone then my call stopped. I thought it was just another dropped call but I am getting nothing.
Holding the power button with the home button is not working. I have been doing off and on for the past hour and holdilng for 20 to 30 seconds with nothing.
I have tried plugging it into power AND my computer. NOTHING
Any suggestions or should I just go to the Apple store and see if they can do something?
I just updated to IOS 5.0.1 about 2 weeks ago. I knew I should have stayed on 4.2.8. I'm on a Verizon iPhone 4 btw.
Thanks in advance for your help,
newbmaster
Update: I believe I found what is causing the issue. Did some more research and checked on my U3 chip and transmitter chips on the logic board/mother board. They are located on the inner side of the sim card reader.
Found a picture of the location here:
From what I've been reading at (http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/128852/Home+button+%2B+Power+button+doens%27t +work+after+display+replacement) it seems that the absence of one or a certain amount of chips cause the power and home button problem.
Hope this helps everyone else with similar issues

Phone 4 home button does not work, iPhone 4 home button does not work
Phone 4 home button does not work. I tried to put it off and on, but to no avail. Tried updating, still nothing.
No magic solutions for a hardware problem. You'll need to bring your phone to Apple for replacement ($149), or find a 3rd party to fix your phone (which will forfeit all future support on that phone, warranty or otherwise, from Apple)

I phone 3gs home button is not working properly
Hi Folks..
From the last few days my I phone 3GS is giving me a hard time.. Its HOME BUTTON is not working properly. Have to press it 2-3 times and have to press it hard to make it work. I am now running 5.1 iOS, it had the same problem with 5.0.1 iOS too. Can you suggest me what to do??? Do i need to take it to the service centre????I've just noticed this too, after updating my 3GS to iOS 5.1. It seems to be happening off and on, but it is more of a problem when the phone has set locked and idle for a few minutes.
I usually wake it from sleep with the power button, unlock it, and wait for the ability to use the home button.
It might be worth it to take it to the Genius Bar or at least try to live chat with Apple Customer Service.
I feel your pain. -
The screen is black . i can.t get it to respond.Power + home soft reset didnt work. Itunes could detect any sync apps. I used my home phone to call my iphone and on my home phone i can hear the calling tone. But my iphone didn't ring/screen did not light up. Its a iphone 4. Any ideas how to fix this?
If the basics (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new) don't work, you'll need to bring the phone to Apple for evaluation

I just got a new ipad air and have started to add apps to it. I have added a couple of free apps which I have also deleted (moved to icloud). I have also a couple of apps (free & purchased) which I have on it now.
Now my problem:
I tried to remove another free app. I press and hold the icon. All app icons shake and display the 'x' for removing, but the 'x' for does not work on any of the icons. Also, after this, the home button does not work as the icons keep shaking even while I am pressing the button. And the power off switch on the side of the device does not work either. If I close the smart cover and reopen it shows the home display and all the icons still shaking (instead of showing the passcode sign-in display). Fortunately (well, fortune in the misfortune) if I press the home button and off switch a couple times each and close the smart cover and wait, the device awakes normally. Well, normally until I try to remove any app.
So what do I need to do to fix this?
Thanx
BrianGlad it worked. Anytime your iPad acts up, the reboot/reset is a common first thing to try. And it clears up many issues and glitches.

I have bought a IPhone 4 from Malaysia, my home button is not working. I want to replace the phone under warranty but all service centres mention that its country specific and I need to get it replaced only at malaysia. Can anyone guide me what to do????
The iPhone warranty is not international and as you purchased in
Malaysia the warranty is only valid in Malaysia
You could try taking to an iPhone Authorised service provider
in India but there have been many similar posts to yours
and I am not aware of them assisting with an iPhone from
outside India -

Power button not working with 7.1 update
Power button not working with 7.1 update
I take it your phone was still under warranty then?!
Unfortunately I was not so lucky, and my experience was rather poor service-wise. They're called Apple Geniuses but I beg to differ...
I'm not sure where in the world you are located, but my "experience" involved visiting the Leeds store and confusing everyone with this issue. I can tell you, just by the looks on their faces, they had never been faced with this problem before!
I suggested my phone was rolled back to the version it was previously to establish whether this was the underlying issue. I was asked whether my phone had been backed up and as it had the "genius" proceeded to restore the phone "as it came out of the factory" to quote him.
When this was completed the phone was still doing the same thing and I was advised "the software update must have highlighted a hardware issue." I was told it would have to be physically repaired and was told to have this done by a third party as Apple would charge approximately £160. Incidentally, I work in IT and repair PC's, laptops and mobile devices for a living and made a point of raising that a sleep/wake button ribbon cable for an iPhone 4S can be bought on eBay for as little as £3.00...if indeed it does need replacing, which I suspect it does not.
Anyway, so now I was left with a phone for the rest of the day which was blank and still the problem remained. On the train, on the way home, you can then imagine my disbelief when I actually took the time to look at my phone's configuration and realised that iOS version 7.1 was still installed, so obviously the issue would still remain. So the visit to the "genius bar" was a complete waste of time as I'm still in the very same position, and I still blame the 7.1 update for this...let's home 7.2 is released very shortly and this solves the issue...
I have downloaded the package to roll the version back to 7.0 but I'm a little reluctant to carry this out yet as I would expect Apple to so the issue they have caused. This is NOT hardware related but software.
I seriously think Android is calling me... -
My home button is not working sometimes and at the store they dont want to take it for repair because the problem did not show up at that time
When normally powering the phone, there would not be a loading bar, you would just see the Apple logo. You can try a reset of the phone, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot.
You can take the phone to Apple, by making an appointment at the Genius Bar to have the hardware checked. Apple handles warranty and post-warranty issues, not Verizon. Have Apple look at the hardware to see if there are any problems. -
My power button on iPhone no longer works, do I have to take it back to orange/EE or can I contact apple and would they fix/ replace handset, only had phone since end of December

The Home button is not working
Put the iPhone to sleep.
Wait a couple of seconds.
Press the Home button.
iPhone should wake up.
If iPhone does not wake up, then iPhone should be serviced.
Best of luck,
