Phone shutting down constantly

I have had my BB Curve 9300 for almost 2 years.  I charge it to 100% almost every night.  Recently (the last month or 2), the phone shuts off when the charge is between 40% and 60%.  When I plug the phone in and turn it back on, it says the battery is at 0%.  Why is this happening and how can I prevent it?
FYI: I have no apps running in the background.  When I switch apps I see Home, Messages, Phone, Browser (with no open web pages) and BB Messenger.  I don't use Twitter or even have the app installed.  I do use the facebook app but my settings are set to refresh the newsfeed every hour.  I used to be able to go days without charging if I chose to, now I can barely go a day and a half without charging and I have not changed my usage frquency nor downloaded any new apps.  Thank you.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
Remove the battery
Wait 15 minutes
Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note that your "new" battery does not necessarily meet the condition of "known good"...while rare, a new battery can certainly be defective. The best way is to find someone with an identical BB that does not have these problems...exchange batteries and see what happens.
You also might try running in Safe Mode for a while:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see if the behavior continues. If it does not, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

  • Battery life issue, phone shuts down

HI I have an iphone 4S running 6.1.1 and with 10.6GB avail space running 3G on the Fido network. Had the phone for less than a year and it was sent to me as a refurbished
My phone shuts down before it gets to 0%. Sometimes it lets me get to 0% and does a normal shut down, but in some cases it will suddenly just shut down and claim it has no battery life left, then when plug in loads up right away, exactly with all the same apps open and with a good chuck of battery.
    Today for example
    - Was at 70% when went out on a bike ride
    - 2 hours later and after some tethering and listening to music it shuts down all of a sudden while looking at a tweet
    - Try to turn back on, says its out of battery
    - Get home and plug in, starts up at 17% right back at the same tweet

I have the same issue with the same 4S.  I thought it was a bug with the camera because it would happen while I was in the middle of taking a picture.  The phone would shut down and after attempting to restart it prompted no battery life.  But once I plugged the phone in it would start up and show the proper battery % left on the phone.
Another forum on here stated a probelm is with the cold weather which was cauing the battery to lower in tempature, falsly causing a depleted percentage which forced a shutdown. They said all they had to do was let the phone warm up and it would reboot back up just fine.
I thought it odd but most of my issues were when I was outside. That is until just last night when I was in my kitchen taking a picture of something on the counter and it again shut down. I had to plug in the charger, boot it back up and once back up I went right back to the kitchen and tried again and it happened again. So I plugged it in again rebooted and then unplugged the phone and let it sit about 10 minutes on the counter and then tried again and it worked.  I am not sure the cold had anytyhing to do with it this time because I had been home a couple of hours already and my home is 70 degrees.  It is frustraing. I find myself caring a backup battery to plug in the phone if and when this happens when I am away.  Not a good solution.

when deleting find i phone app i erased my apple id and since then my phone shut down as soon as it is opened what can i do ?

    Do the following:
Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

I've the iphone 4s, and My battery show me 40% than the phone shut down, some of my friends the same, from when i'll update the system os.
We've think that Apple do it for making the change of the phone!!  :O
what will we have to do for making the downgrade of OS of the phone?
    tks Andrea

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
Apple has never supported downgrading of the iOS.

  • HT4061 downloaded update in settings this morning. When phone came back on, it shows a line comingup from bottom of screen to a locked padlock, then an arrow above thre padlock, and ai Itunes icon above the arrow. After a few seconds, the phone shuts down

I downloaded an update in settings this morning on my iPhone5. When phone came back on, the screen showed a line coming up from the bottom of the screen to a locked padlock, then an up arrow above the padlock, then an Itunes icon above the arrow. I tried swiping, tapping, everything, and nothing would happen. Then the phone shut down. What do I do?

  • Phone shuts down during phone calls

Using a 3G phone, my husband's phone shuts down during a phone call. It doesn't seem to matter where he is or the other person's carrier. The phone comes back on after hitting the Home button a few times. Today it happened right in the middle of a short cal so length of call has no bearing.
    Any ideas?

It is possible. If a case does only partially cover a sensor, then sometimes it may not cover, or it may, especially if it slides around a little bit.
But with that said, there have been a lot of reports about 3G and dropping signal. Read just about any tech blog and you will see many posts about it, though no confirmation about a single cause (a lot of finger pointing).
I'd say try without a case for a bit to see if it continues. If not, then you know that was it. If still issues, then could be related to the issues being reported about 3G.
They are working on yet another update to try to help, but in meantime if still continues, there is a setting to turn off 3G and just use Edge. For phone calls difference between Edge and 3G really doesn't matter. Only when doing something online with the browser or an App that goes online, etc does 3G really help with speeds. So can also try turning off 3G and only turning it on when you need to go online with the phone. See if that helps with calls until update comes out.

  • Phone shuts down prematurely

Sometimes when the indicated charge is below 20% or so, the phone shuts down on its own as if it has no charge.
I know it in fact has a charge because I would connect it to a charger and immediately after rebooting, it would show an abnormally high charge -- approximately what the charge was when it shut down. So it's not like I charged it back up to that charge.
I have run the phone down to legitimately dead a number of times since this started, and it started with iOS 7.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Phone shutting down with 75% battery life left.

    Hello,
I've had my iPhone 3GS for 1 month and it's developed a problem.
The phone shuts down, and won't let me restart it.
Holding down the power button and home button doesn't revive it, not matter how long I hold it on.
If I plug it into charge, I get the battery symbol with a small red bar on the left, and the lightning symbol at the bottom. The phone still won't allow me to fire it up.
After a short while (1 minute or so) the phone lets me fire it up as per normal. As soon as it's up and running, it's telling me I have greater than 70% battery life left!
I've reset the phone preferences, deleted a load of unwanted apps (I was nowhere near full on memory capacity though) and restarted the phone by holding hte power and home buttons until the apple appears. This hasn't solved the problem.
I'm going to try and run it totally flat (whatever that seems to mean) and give it a full charge a few times.
Has anyone else come across this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pip

    Hi,
Exactly the same problem here. I left it to charge for hours, but the red, low battery bar would not dissapear. When I unplugged it, the phone turned off after a few seconds. I managed to turn it back on a few times, and it showed battery charges of approx. 80%. But after a few minutes, it shut down automatically and showed the low batt symbol again . I returned it to the store. No news yet.

  • Phone shutting down midway through a call?

This has happened twice in as many weeks. I'm on a call and the phone shuts down and then I have to reboot. It doesn't even list the call i was on in recent calls. Is this common?

  • My phone shut down.  Wont reboot!  Help anyone?

My phone shut down.  Upon turning it on i get the Apple logo and then nothing.  Sometimes it then says activate phone with itunes.  But itunes does not detect the phone?  Help anyone?

That's terrible, Lisa_M! We need to get your phone up and running immediately! Was your phone fully charged when this happened? If not, connect your device to your PC or outlet and let it charge for 20-30 min! Did your phone incur any physical or liquid damage? If you need additional assitance, please follow and send a DM to ChaunceyM_VZW and I will reach out and address your concerns. Have a great day!

  • Why did my phone shut down when I started updating software?

Why did my phone shut down when I started updating software?

    Hi Patraposo,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It is difficult to know why devices behave unexpectedly; however there are several articles on the Support site that can help recover your iPhone if the update did not complete.
If your iPhone will not turn on, start with the steps in the "Power/Battery" section of this article:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
If you just see the "connect to iTunes" screen, the steps in this article can help:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

If you see another symptom, feel free to reply with more information.
    Best,
    Jeremy

  • Phone shut down after reading text

yesterday - my phone shut down, after getting a text message.
it re-booted itself back up, however, i lost all my text messages -
i had messages from about 20 people totalling 150 messages.
has this ever happened to anyone? Went to Verizon today -
    they have no idea...

        curlym,
Sounds like we might have stepped into the cell phone twilight zone. So, let's get you back to reality. To be honest, this is odd for messages to be erased after your phone simply shutting down. Which model device is it? Do you use a third party messaging app? And is it acting normally since this happened? Please share.
