Phone suddenly won't recognise SIM - "No SIM"

Hi all,
Has anyone ever experienced a situation where their phone was working fine, then after a minor bump (literally, a really minor bump - and its in a case too which I'm sure reduces such bumps).. ?
My iphone slid out of my pocket onto our tile floor yesterday - it wasn't a big fall and it slid along the tiles for maybe a metre, and then stopped. When I picked it up, it said "No SIM installed". I haven't had time to try and connect it to the computer, but I have tried:
Eejecting the SIM, repositioning it, and so on 4-5+ times;
Turning the phone on and off using top button;
Doing a full master reset type turn off (ie hold top and home button beyond normal turn-off screen)
Hoping that leaving it alone overnight would will it into working this morning (!!!)
I probably am not going to have time to ring Apple until later today (I'm in Australia - its Monday morning at the moment).... so I thought I'd put it out to the brains trust out there for ideas I can try before I call them.
Thanks in advance,
Kristan.

  • Won't recognise sim

Recently my Iphone 3GS came up with the message to connect to ITunes. So that afternoon I connected it and it said that there had been an error and that it needed a system restore. So I did the restore but now when trying to configure the phone it won't recognise the sim card. This sim still works in other phones and is obviously an error with the Iphone. I can't do the restore again as when I go to Itunes it says there is no sim installed so I cant do anything at all.
Any help would be muchly appreciated!

it may be a faulty sim does another sim work in it? this way we can narrow things down.
ensure the sim is in the right way and inserterd correctly
if another sim works in the phone its you sim if another sim does not work its the phone thats faulty
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

Sounds like physical damage, so you need to take it to a repair centre.

  • HT4994 My phone suddenly is showing "no sim card"?

I haven't had any issues with my phone and it's suddenly saying there's "no sim card" even though it's in there.  I've restarted, restored from back up, took sim card out and put back in, among other things.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

        Hi Slh1078,
That's not good! Have you tried removing/adding the Sim Card in this the device? Any liquid physical damage to the device? Did this start after downloading any particular application?
    Thanks,

  • Upgrade/update system gtkpod now suddenly won't recognise .mp4

    Hi all,
I've been using Arch for a few months now(6 - 8months) and have managed between the forum and the wiki to search and find all the information I needed.
However there does not seem to be any info on this....
Less than a week ago I could copy .mp4 files to my Ipod 5g using gtkpod with no problem, I ran "sudo pacman -Syu" 2 days ago(I am in the habit of running it ever 2 to 3 days) and this morning went to copy some video files onto my Ipod... and... I get this error :
File type of /home/jj/Desktop/Tutorials/Dock_Murdock_Slap_Funk_Bass.mp4 is not recognised.
I can't seem to find any information here on the Arch site, or even a google search, its like no one has had this problem. I admit I'm a little new to Arch still, I'm a web-programmer and a musician, I'm not to much into system admin(yet). The above error message is popped up by gtkpod when I tell it to add the .mp4 file, is there a log file that I can get a more detailed error message from?
I checked and I have lib libmp4v2 installed as well as faac and faad2. The video files play fine in VLC, I used ffmpeg to convert them from .flv to .mp4, and after getting the error message I tried copying a video file that I had previously copied to the Ipod(which is in fact still on the Ipod under a different name, and I can't watch it fine) ad still no luck.
Can anyone at least point me in the right direction here? I really need to get these videos on here.
    Thanks!

If you need a quick-fix, have a look at Downgrading Packages. For a long-time fix, you will need to find out why gtkpod no longer recognizes the file you want to add, and probably report it upstream
Thank you very much Spider, downgrading worked for now. I was damn near in tears over this, not a good day for things to mess up(what with quitting smoking etc...). From what I can tell, the newest version of gtkpod(at least on my system) is not being installed with the optional dependency "libmp4v2" ... the libmp4v2 library is installed on my system but gtkpod does not seem to be linking against it... and I can't find any information on installing a package with optional dependencies.... I don't know, for now it works, I'll have to see about building my own package maybe?

  • Phone (5200) won't recognise card after music tran...

    Hello
This is my first purchase of a mobile phone with mp3 playback. The salesperson supplied the phone with a 2G Scandisk card and a card reader, and told me that I could transfer music from my hard disk to the phone by using this. I loaded a little over 1G of music onto the card, using an iMac. When I put the card back into the phone, then switched the phone on, the phone showed the welcome screen and then switched itself off. It did this several times. Without the card, it functions normally.
If I read the card on a PC, it shows the music is there, in the original folders in which it was stored on the iMac. Would anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

On transferring the music to a PC, I discovered that certain tracks were rejected as their names were too long. As I had not changed them since downloading from the internet, this seemed rather bizarre. It may be that OSX does something to the names that makes them too long for PCs and Nokia telephones (they download to my Archos 604 without any trouble).

  • Thunderbird suddenly won't recognise my password

A couple of days ago Thunderbird suddenly started saying that "sending of password did not succeed...login failed". I use this account for work, so this is a serious problem. I'm now using gmail, but it's not as versatile. No matter what I do I can't seem to get Thunderbird to accept the password. Since this morning, when I try to look at account settings I just get a message saying "An account with this name already exists. Please enter a different name". There is no problem with my provider. Does anyone know what's going on?

  • My Macbook suddenly won't recognise my external hard drive

    Hi there.
I am using an Intenso 2,5" MemoryStation as an external hard drive. I have a few folders with pictures on it and my TimeMachine. When I plug it in it would usually show up on my desktop and start backing up my hard disk automatically. Something has now changed.
My dad gave my Macbook a new hard disk with more storage. When he put it in, he first safety copied all my stuff onto a separate external hard drive - ie. not my own. My Macbook is working perfectly and looks and acts exactly like before. But when I plug in my external hard drive, it now doesn't show up, neither on my desktop nor in disk utility. I can see that the external hard drive is responding as a light switches on and off when I plug it in and out; I don't think it is broken as I have taken very good care of it.
I'm worried that I have formatted my external hard drive so that it will only respond to a (now old) backup of my Macbook, which I can't access from my new hard disk.
I do also have the external hard drive that my dad originally used to backup all my stuff - with the older backup. Is there a way I can have my external hard drive read the new external hard drive (with the old backup of my Macbook)? Or has anyone experienced anything like this before?
Sorry if it got a bit complicated. It is evident that I am no tech expert.
    Best,
    Anne Sofie

There is nothing saved on the SIm card in an iphone.  If you have a backup of the old phone restore that to the new phone

  • Iphone 4, not recognising SIM card, tried other sims and no success. Also tried restoring phone, now I cant restore it as it cant detect the SIM

Basically, phone suddenly said there was no SIM card, despite being able to recieve texts moments earlier. There were no bumps or anything out of the ordinary between these. Tried the recommened tips but no success, also tried restoring my Iphone but now it cant be activated as it cant find the SIM, tried my brothers SIM with no success but my SIM worked in his phone. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Remove and re-insert the SIM.
Clean the contacts on the SIM with an eraser.
If it is still not working, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • Iphone4 won't recongise SIM, won't activate

    Hello,
I recently updated my iphone 4 to the latest 6.1.3 iOS from 5.1 or some very old one (I've been lazy and waiting for better maps) and a day or two later it stopped recognising the SIM (i.e. "sim card not installed" displays on screen).
I tried a few troubleshoots - hard resetting, reseeding the sim - but nothing worked so finally I tried doing a restore through itunes and now it won't activate so the phone is truly useless I'm guessing it won't activate without a SIM, just wondering what to do? Are there any other tricks for getting these things to recognise SIMs?
    Also:
The phone is unlocked and always has been ( I bought it outright)
I'm on the optus network in Australia
It's not jailbroken or any of that shady stuff
    Thanks for any help,
    James

For anyone else interested in this question - I just used a friends SIM to get past the activation step (as the pone needed a SIM for some daft reason) and all worked fine so I don't think it was a problem with the iphone hardware. I'm going to grab a new SIM from my provider and I'll post again here if it works after a few days or whatever, hopefully I'll remember
