Phone was stolen but can't retrieve contacts from cloud on new phone. Am I out of luck?
My phone was stolen and may not be backed up on the cloud. Are my contacts lost forever?
There are several ways of backing up contacts:
They are included in backups of your phone to iTunes
They are included in backups of your phone to iCloud
You can set up the phone to sync contacts with an app on your computer when you sync the phone with iTunes
You can set up an iCloud account and sync the contacts to iCloud (this is different from backing up)
You can set the phone to sync contacts with your gmail contact list
You can set the phone to sync contacts with an MS Exchange server if you have an account on one.
If you did not do any of these things they are lost.

If you have an iCloud account, change your AppleID and iCloud passwords immediately. That will keep a thief from connecting and deleting your iCloud backups. When you get a new iPhone, if from an Apple store, the genius bar staff can download the information you have in iCloud and restore it to your new iPhone.

My phone was stolen, but I had no data left and so can't locate it till the person who has it tries to use the internet. I backed up all my photos on iCloud, and want to get them on my PC. I installed iCloud onto the PC and followed the instructions and still can't find my pictures, says my photostream folder is empty, but it shows on iCloud that i've used most of my storage which is true, so they must be there somewhere?

For Find My Phone to work, you must first turn it on in Settings > iCloud before the iPhone is stolen, and the iPhone MUST be turned on and connected with the Internet. If not, it is not possible to locate it. Report the theft to the police, change all passwords associated with accounts on the iPhone, contact your carrier in case the can blacklist it.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can recover any photos in photostream, by logging into your account on your computer. Any photos that are in the camera roll and not in photostream may be in your backup if yo kept one. When you replace your phone, restore it using this back up. -

My phone was stolen, how do I retrieve my pictures from iCloud?
I just finished a 3 week trip in Europe and on the very last day my phone (a 4S) was stolen. It contained all my photos from the trip. It's very unlikely that I will get the phone back, so I am hoping that there's a way to retrieve my photos. The phone was backing up to iCloud (I think), so theoretically everything would be on there.
How can I retrieve my photos? Is there a way to do it from my Macbook? Do I need to wait until I buy a new phone and somehow sync them onto there? Or are they gone forever?
Any help would be very appreciated, I had some extremely important photos on there of my late sister that I don't have anywhere else.Make sure you are logged into iCloud on your Mac and Photo Stream is on:
System Preferences > iCloud
Open iPhoto > Preferences > Photo Stream > Enable My Photo Stream (and Shared Photo STream too if you want)
Now in the Side Bar There will be a Web section with Photo Stream in it.
Photo Steam only holds photos on the server for 30 days so you will only be able to retieve the last moinths worth of photos. Hopefully you have transfered the rest to your computer.
If you do not have iPhoto let me know. -

My iphone was stolen 1 month ago. I have set up an ´erase content´ and icloud block via the find my iphone app. Will I be able to retrieve photos from taken on my stolen iphone via photostream or an icloud restore/back up some how?
Someone has contacted saying they bought my stolen iphone (in peru) and are asking that I unblock my phone. I have since recieved a new iphone via insurance but would like to now if there is a way to access my photos taken on the stolen device. Because I have a macbook that is also logged into my icloud account, will i somehow be able to access my old photos from my macbook?The erase should take place the next time the phone is on and connected to a data network (via wi-fi or cellular). They don't have to enter your Apple ID password for that to happen. Do NOT give them your password, now or ever. They do not need to enter anything for the erase to take place. It just needs to connect to a data network (and that may not be possible if the phone is outside of your cellular carrier's area and if it cannot connect to wi-fi).
Do NOT remove the device from your account. The quote below is from If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen
What if your iOS device is off or offline?
If your missing device is off or offline, you can still put it in Lost Mode, lock it, or remotely erase it. The next time your device is online, these actions will take effect. If you remove the device from your account while it's offline, any pending actions for the device will be cancelled.
There isn't anything else you can do at this point to make the phone erase -- you have done what you can do. If the phone did not have a passcode, they have likely already had access to your data if the phone is in a foreign country since it wouldn't be online (connected to wi-fi or cellular) unless they intentionally did that. -

Contacts from laptop onto new phone.

Im new to all this and not very good with mobile phones! I had my n95 8g solen and have now got a new n86. I backed up my files from the n95 before it was stolen and was wondering if and how i could transfer my contacts from my laptop to my new phone as it seems to use a different PC suite, i dont really understand this ovi pc suite.
Thanks in advanceIt's a bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted (sorry) but I also use my Ovi account to backup, sync and restore my contacts, calender and notes OTA. Just to have a safety net, if you have an account you can get it to send the settings to your phone via txt and then set up a sync (I used it tonight, All my notes had gone, due to a reset and I needed a password)
I use two methods of backup, because in the past I have managed to 'kill' both laptops and phones

Can't move contacts from iPhone to new MacBook Pro
Hi,
my father-in-law has an iPhone 3G which he's used with his PC without a problem. I finally convinced him to buy a MacBook Pro (which he did today) and we've been unable to move the contacts from the iPhone to the laptop. The phone is connected to iTunes and all looks normal but when we select "contacts" to be synced to the laptop and then click apply, nothing happens. Tried to sync it, the phone and iTunes say "syncing" but the contacts are not showing up in the laptop's address book - very embarassing. I'm assuming it's something I'm doing wrong but I can't for the life of me find an answer.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.

OleBefore you connect your phone to the mac, you should make sure that auto sync when a phone or ipod is connected is NOT CHECKED in preferences for itunes.
Once you've authorized the account, you should then transfer your purchased apps & music to itunes from your phone.
You do that by going up to file, select transfer purchases made on this ipod to this computer. All of your purchased apps & music will be transferred, music you ripped on your own or photos will not be, you'll have to restore those from a backup.
If you already have contacts in your address book, you should have received the merge prompt when you synced. Are you sure in itunes you have the contact tab checked?
