Phone won't allow use until battery is charged slightly

When I plug the phone in after its battery has died, it won't let me use it for about 10 minutes. All I see is the battery charging indicator.
This could pose a problem in an emergency, At the very least it causes inconvenience when I need to make a quick phone call.
I assume this is normal behavior. Does anyone know why it happens?

It's possible during certain situations for the device to momentarily draw more power than the USB cable can safely provide. USB ports provide a maximum of 5 volts DC at 500 milliamps. If the device draws more power than this, then the computer will cut power to the device. It needs a minimum battery charge to guarantee adequate power reserves.
Yes, this is normal. No, you can't do anything about it.
At least two other cell phones that I've owned would not turn on for the first few minutes after plugging in the charger, if the battery was previously depleted.

    Greetings Fraser Alexander,
Erasing your Mac shouldn't harm your internal hard drive but erasing does clear Yosemite and everything else off of it.  Are you not able to restore it with your Time Machine backup?
    iCloud: Erase your device
If you erase then find your Mac, you can restore the information on the Mac using a Time Machine backup. For more information, see the Apple Support article Recover your entire system. If you set an EFI firmware password on your Mac before it was lost, then erase it and later find it, you may need to take your Mac to an authorized repair center to unlock it before you can use it again.

  • How do I update from iOS 6.0.1 to iOS 7.1? As I've never updated my phone since buying from a friend and my phone won't allow me to update to iOS 8??

How do i update my iOS 6.0.1 to iOS 7.1? As I've never updated my phone since buying from a friend and my phone won't allow me to update to iOS 8??

An iPhone 4S can only be updated directly to iOS 8.1.2. You need to resolve the issue which prevents you from updating to it instead of attempting to install an intermediate version.

  • X200S won't start using a battery

X200s works fine when connected to AC but won't start using the battery.  The on button has no impact, no indicator lights , nothing.  I have tried it with two different batteries, in both cases the battery condition shows good and fully charged in Lenovo Power Manager - any ideas?

The fuses are not considered replaceable. They are soldered to the motherboard and are not a job for a "radio shack" soldering iron. A quartz preheater and a temperature controlled rework station is the minimum equipment you would need. It requires a complete disassembly to determine whether the problem is a fuse or something else. I do not have an x200s motherboard to look at to be sure, but the charging fuse for the main battery is usually near the battery connector. I will add that the problem you describe more likely to be a power transistor than a fuse, unless there was some sort of event that happened at the time it stopped working.

  • Rogers is saying that IOS4 won't allow use of the personal hotspot with a plan of less than 1GB data.  I say it's a policy of theirs, not an iOS restriction.  Anyone know the truth?

I call BS but the tech guy was insistent that the iPhone can detect what plan I have and won't enable the feature and there's nothing they can do about it, short of selling me a larger data plan...

Actually it does.  It's wrong to lie to a customer.  By blaming Apple, they shift the blame and make it seem like there is nothing they can do about it.  If they admitted it was their policy, I could complain and try to get it changed or I could move to another carrier.
If a person killed someone and blamed it on a heart attack, the person is stil dead, does it matter? Either way they're dead, right...  (extreme, I know, but illustrating a point)
    Wow.
It is certainly Rogers policy and is not unusual at all among carriers.
Seems like a non-issue to me, but apparently being "lied to" ( perhaps the employee was simply mistaken, it happens) is a major deal to you.

  • Should I completely use my battery before charging?

I just bought a MBP with retina...15 max'd out. Should i kill my battery (is it healthy?) every time before recharging it? does it matter if i only charge it to 70% every time? Should i leave it plugged into the AC whenever i can?
    ~Thanks

No. Constant discharging and charging is injurious to the health of the battery.
Use it on battery whenever needs to be.
Keep the computer plugged in whenever possible.
If you keep the computer always plugged in, make sure that twice a month
run it on battery until battery level drops to about 50-40%.

  • IPod Touch used until battery went flat, starts charging and now it won't stop resetting itself (Apple screen). :(

I have an iPod Touch, fairly old (think it's 3rd gen, has no camera). I used it today until the battery went flat, tried charging it as I normally do and now it's stuck as if it's having the home and off buttons pressed all the time... It keeps rebooting and always just stays to the Apple screen basically.
Tried connecting to iTunes, shows up like it's syncing but, I can't select it to do anything.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

    - Try restoring the iPOd.
    To allow the restore try:
    - a reset.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Place the iPod in Recovery Mode
    - Placing in DFU mode

    - Let the batter fully drain. After charging fro at least an hour try again.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My phone won't send emails until I get home. Says rejected by the server.

My phone receives emails where ever I am but won't send until I get home. Says "rejected by the server". Using Time Warner. Any suggestions?

You might be using an invalid email address that you are sending to or your mail settings for the account are wrong.  Check the address and I would delete the email account and reenter it

  • When adding bookmarks and trying to changing its name, Firefox won't allow using the mouse; Firefox will only allow using the arrow keys (MAC OS 10.5, Firefox 3.6.8)

When adding a bookmark sometimes the web page name is too long. I used to be able to use my mouse, highlight the letters/words that I don't want, then use delete to truncate the desired bookmark name. Since the latest update/upgrade, Firefox won't let me use the mouse to click anywhere in the popup box. I can only use the arrow keys and the delete key.
Nothing other than updates (using Mac Software Update and Firefox Update) has been done to this computer (it's a 2002 Power Mac G4-Dual 1.25GHz).

  • Nano won't play using the battery, but ok on external power.  Got washed in the washing machine.

I washed my nano with my jeans in the washing machine.  It still works when I use external power, but not on the battery.  I've charaged it, but it doesn't hold the charge.   Sugggestions?

The battery is dead, permanantly pretty much.
I had this happen to an old nano, 2nd gen or 3rd i forgot which it was.
Anyway i went in a lake with it, after that it would no longer work on the battery, but would with external power.
I spent a good while looking for a solution but couldn't find a fix or any suggestions other than replacing the ipod battery, or the ipod itself.
I did keep it though and just kept it on a ipod player speaker device though. Maybe now theres a trick to fix it or something but i highly doubt it.

  • HT1688 My phone won't allow me to enter the iTunes store

I cannot download apps the phone says cannot open iTunes store

You can look at this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802, but user troubleshooting is power off/on, a reset holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will restart. This will not affect data at all. If needed, the next step is restore from a backup. With the phone connected to the computer and iTunes, click the Restore button, and when prompted, restore from your backup. Just make sure before you start the restore that you backup the device. The Backup button is right in front of you.
Before trying to restore as a new device, the next step, I would do as I suggested in checking with the carrier. A restore as a new device deletes all data from the phone.

  • Phone Won't Turn on After battery died

Yesterday my phone completely died, causing my phone to shut off.  I have had it charging for about 8 hours and I get nothing.  The red light will come on for about 15 seconds, then off, then back on... Any suggestions?

Are you seeing on the screen a battery symbol with a slash (/) through it?
Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage). If it doesn't reboot on the first attempt, leave it several more hours. I've had one charge for two days before it came back to life after an extreme battery depletion. Every 3-4 hours, with the device still connected to the charger, you can remove and replace the battery to see if it reboots.
If not, no dead battery symbol... If your BlackBerry stays powered off with a black screen, follow the instructions below. The only indication of life might be the blinking red LED light in the top corner. Nothing seems to wake it up and Desktop Manager doesn't recognize any device is connected.
    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • Phone won't turn on after battery drain...

Here's my situation: My iPhone 3G S ran out of battery over night. So this morning I got to work at 9 and plugged it in. It's been over an hour now and it's still not turning on. I've tried doing a reset, getting it into recovery mode, it's just not responding. Any suggestions?

When its plugged in, if you give the screen a good hard look, you should be able to see a very dark battery icon and a charging symbol - but they are not lit up at all.
If you don't see them, then the charging possibly isn't working - are you USB charging or using the main adapter ?
