Phone won't recognize SIM card anymore

About two months ago I bought the Blackberry Curve 3G from Amazon. I bought it unlocked so that when I go back home (I'm from Holland and I'm currently in the US for a year) I can take it with me and use my old sim card. The phone worked fine up until last week; the battery died and when I turned it on as it was charging, I got a message saying the sim card was not available. I turned the phone off again, unplugged it and opened it to see if the sim card was properly inserted. It looked fine so I turned the phone back on: same thing. I've been very careful with my phone, never dropped it, never got wet etc so that can't be it.
It's not the sim card because I tried to put in a different card and that didn't work either. When I tried those two cards in a different phone, they did work.
I contacted Amazon and the company that I bought it from; they told me to contact Blackberry. What can I do??

That can happen when you drop our phone or just some pieces inside the phone near the SIM card are loose. You can contact BlackBerry Customer Support Contact (toll free): 1-877-255-2377 Option #2 and they can help you with this situation but if it is unsuccessful you have to contact Amazon so they can replace your phone immediately..
Hope it helps!

  • New phone won't recognize sim card

I just received a replacement for my motorola droid 4.  In the start up tutorial, first thing it says it take out sim card from old phone and put it in the new one.  I've done that but the screen stays on A SKM card is needed to operate this phone.  Please turn off your phone and insert your SIM card.  I have powered off and re inserted the SIM card several times but it continues to not recognize that the SIM card is installed.   HELP!!!

One of three things is going on here. Either the SIM is being inserted incorrectly into your replacement phone, the SIM itself needs to be replaced or the SIM slot on the replacement phone is faulty. It's possible that if you touched the gold contact on the side of the SIM card that it was corrupted and now isn't responding inside of your phone.

Perhaps the SIM is corrupted... you can get a new one free at a corporate Verizon store, or call CS and they can send you one in the mail.
In the meantime, be sure the SIM is seated securely, and don't touch the gold contacts.  Though I would think with reinserting the SIM several times it would be detected....
Are you sure you are inserting the SIM (a white card with numbers on it, goes in the bottom slot) and not the SD Card (typically black, and a bit smaller than the SIM, and sits in a slot above the SIM).

  • Bought 'Unlocked' iPhone 4s and it won't recognize sim card. Any help?

Had an iPhone 4 but screen broke so I sent it out for repair but it couldn't be fixed so ordered an unlocked white iphone 4s from a third party site called 'TradeAnythingUk'. I kept my sim card so I could put it in this phone it came through the post today and during setup it has told me this error message :
'The sim card in this iPhone does not appear to be supported, Onlly compatible sims from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insrt the sim that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carriers store to receive a replacement sim card'
I looked at a few forums and thought I'd try restoring the phone and re installing the software this hasn't changed anything
Is this a pure case of the phone not actually being unlocked or is there any more to this problem
I am with Orange network by the way and I am in the UK.

Apparently you didn't get an iPhone that was officially unlocked, but rather one that either wasn't unlocked at all (and you were flat lied to) or that was hacked to unlock it. Restoring would have removed any such hack in most cases.
Only the carrier to whom the iPhone is locked can authorize an unlock, and most carriers will not unless you have service with them. I'd suggest you go back to the unauthorized reseller from whom you purchased this iPhone for redress, since they didn't sell you what they apparently claimed. It's quite possible, though, that you may have to chalk this up as a learning experience, swallow the loss, and buy another iPhone from an authorized source.
Just so you know, unless your old iPhone was in pieces or jailbroken, Apple would have replaced it for £119 if you had taken it to an Apple Store.
    Regards.

  • What should I do with a replacement iPhone 4s which won't recognize SIM card?

Bought iPhone 4s on release date from Sprint store. On/Off button does not work. Spring told me to go through Apple care. They sent me a replacement phone with instructions to put SIM card from first phone in second phone. I have spent literally hoursssss with both Sprint and Apple trying to get the new phone activated. "SIM card not recognized."  Tried to activate with icloud, itunes, all while on the phone with reps. Tried w/o the SIM card and got the message "Welcome to Verizon"....I am SPRINT. Put SIM card back in .... same "this phone is not compatible with this SIM card."  More hours on the phone and another "phone appointment" on Monday with "engineers"???? What to do???

Also, I was told to ask for a new replacement WITH a SIM card. Apple said I would have the same issue?????

  • IPhone doesn't recognize sim card anymore after the update

The update completely borked my phone. I bought it in Beijing, China. Made sure it was unlocked (from an official apple store) and they told me it was. Worked fine with my Swedish sim card, went back to China after a few months and it worked fine with my Chinese sim card. Got a popup today from itunes telling me that there's an upgrade so I upgraded it. Now it tells me it doesn't support my sim card, I've tried recovering it with DFU/DUF (cant remember the name) but it didn't help. This really blows, if I've lost all of my phone numbers etc now because of this bleep I'm going to be furious.
    Any tips? Ideas?

    Okay, here comes an update.
I went to the store where I bought my iPhone and I told them about my problem. Here's where it starts to get funny.
Apparantly they had imported my iPhone from USA and they even jailbroke it. (I had NO IDEA)
With other words, the reason as to why the phone was unlocked was because they jailbroke it. Something they never told me. So naturally when I updated my phone in iTunes (not knowing it was jailbroken), the phone got locked.
Pretty ****** huh? An official reseller of apple products actually jailbreak their products and then sell them to people who simply don't know any better.
So I've wasted around $600 for nothing. They KNEW it would get locked, they KNEW that what they were doing was illegal and still they did it.
    This is ridiculous.
Edit: I also forgot to mention, they pretty much just told me "nothing we can do about it".

  • My new 4s won't recognize sim card. AT

After 5 hours of trying to activate new phone I got an error message that said sim card not identified with this phone. Went to AT&T store they gave me new sim still same error. They say it's an apple issue because I bought the phone through apple. Defective phone. Really? I've been holding to 3GS all this time, very disappointed. Anyone else with this issue?

Yes, same issue.  Called ATT, they put me to high level support, then finally to apple.  They said to go to store to have someone help me activate.  They told me web order server issue with ATT.  Went to ATT store, they said everything fine on their end.  Most have been waiting 4 - 6 hours. THey sent me back to Apple.  Apple said it's a known issue, with ATT and it should be at the most 1 - 2 hours.  So worst case sceanrio, I should have only waited 8 hours at the most.  I am on over 12 1/2 hours. They are passing the buck on each other.  Apple suggested iI return it, and expect a new one in 8 business days.  I told them I will return it, but wanted to a buy a new one now.  There was no line and they had "hundreds" of my model in stock still.  The ATT regional manager was there helping with activations and she said she would not approve it and I would have to pay $599.  I am so frustrated and no one can give me an answer.

  • IPad 2 wifi/3G won't recognize SIM card

I sold my ipad 2 in a private sale. The buyer says the 3G doesn't work.  I told him to go to Settings, cellular data, sign into Apple, choose the plan, enter credit card info, and you're good to go. he says he did that, but it says it needs a SIM card  He went to AT&T who put a SIM card in it, but it wasn't recognized.  They told him there is something wrong with the iPad. It worked fine for me when I paid for the service, though I haven't used the 3G network for a year or so. I wonder if there is an easy fix for this. I don't think I ever had a SIM card in it, unless one was put in it before shipping from Apple.  I sure didn't take it out.  I'm not sure what to do, or if it can be fixed. Anyone else had an issue like this?

remove the sim card a reseat it first, if the same issue happens then goto AT&T.. but although not often a Sim card can go bad

  • After upgrade to E2, it won't recognize SD card anymore?

Hi,  I just followed the palm directions to upgrade from a Tungsten E to E2.  Before the hotsync the palm recognized my SD card, but it doesn't recognize it anymore afterwards.  Am I missing something in the hotsync process?
    Thank you!
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

I have a 512mb panasonic SD card from way back that worked on my old Tungesten E, so I am sure that's not the problem.  I went through the recommended upgrade steps faithfully with the new Palm Desktop moving a bunch of my old applications into a folder that aren't E2 compatible, then it went ahead and supposedly restored everything.  However, it failed to recognize my SD card afterwards no matter what.  I found a thread on here that said it may be incompatiblity issues with old software, so I ended up manually restoring my contacts/memos etc and then reinstalling some of the old software.
I must say that I am very disappointed with the whole upgrade process.  I should've bought an used Tungsten E in retrospect so I woulnd't have to deal with all the hassle.
As an aside, now that my E2 is semi functional I found that my screen calibration is off, such that I had a hard time tapping on the bottom of the writing area to get the keyboard.  I played around for hours to see if I can trick the touch screen application into adjusting, but the best I could do is get the keyboard to work but near the upper portion of the screen it's still off.  I do have a screen protector but it's very well plastered to the screen.  Do I have a defective unit?
    Thanks.

  • 1616 won't recognize Sim card

My first mobile phone, Nokia 1616, arrived this morning. I called my service provider, my Sim is activated, my line is open but the phone says "insert Sim" although it is correctly inserted. I tried a virgin media card from my daughter's phone and got the same message.

It sounds like the 1616 may be locked to another network preventing you from using your sims with it. Contact the person that sold you this phone and ask them if it's network locked, if so ask them which network it is locked to.

  • Phone won't recognize SD card

I have an 8GB SD card in my phone, and have been using it to store podcasts and music using the app "PodTrapper."
For no reason what so ever, when I woke up on Sat. it seems that podtrapper can’t communicate with me SD.  This happened last week, and I pushed so many buttons, I don’t know how I got it to work again.    This time, I took out the card, and in the process lost all the music, and still BB can’t find it.
I've already tried to change the directory,  However, the directory says it is in the SDCard/BlackBerry/podtrapper, but when I go to "change storage folder," only "store/" directory is found, not the SD card.
I don't think its a podtrapper issues, I have a feeling it's a BB issue, why can't my phone see my SD card?
Here are some of the other warnings I'm getting.
On the main screen in PodTrapper, it says “Downloading paused: Media card unavailable: Mass Media Storage Mode...”
On BB "memory" settings: Big exclamation mark with this message: “Media card is not available because Mass Storage Mode is currently in use.”
On BB screen: when I click on podtrapper: “PodTrapper can’t download or play when mass storage mode is enabled. “ When I click “Yes” to see more information it says in the general settings in BB, to find “Media card” and then “auto enable Mass Media Mode” and change to no –or prompt.
I can’t find a setting for “media card” but I found “Memory” which had the options discussed above with others.
But my BB desktop Manager (for Macs) when I go to sync my music, it says it can’t find the media card. And tells me that I have to have Mass Storage Mode turned on.
Any help would be apprecated. Thanks,

    Hello dharland,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
If it is showing you that the Media card is not available because Mass Storage Mode is currently in use that means that the BlackBerry smartphone is connected to a PC and Mass Storage Mode is in use. If this is shown when the device is not connected to the PC please take the battery out of the BlackBerry smartphone to restart it. After the BlackBerry smartphone boots up check to see if the media card is accessible again.
    Thank you

  • I want to use an old iphone as an itouch and don't have the sim card anymore and I just updated to the new software

I want to use an old iphone as an itouch and don't have the sim card anymore (cut it to fit into 4G) and I just updated to the new software.... How do I reload the phone with apps and music?

You'll need to get a SIM card. It can be an old one.

  • Updated my iphone 3gs to the 5 ios and now my phone wont read my sim card when i reacticate it

updated my iphone 3gs to the 5 ios and now my phone wont read my sim card when i reactivate it.
Every time i connect it to itunes all it says is "There is no SIM card installed in the iphone you are attempting to activate." Even thought there is a sim card connected in my phone.

Is the SIM from a supported carrier?
Is the device carrier locked, officially unlocked, or hacked to be unlocked?
Has the SIM been reseated?  If not, try that.
Also, basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore.  Has any of that been tried?

  • After updating to IOS 8, my phone won't recognize my TV.

After updating to IOS 8, my phone won't recognize my TV via AV cable.

Same problem here on four devices, two of which aren't even running iOS 7. App updates just disappear from the app store app and the app tells me all my apps are up to date when they aren't.
This problem fixed itself on the iPhone 4 this morning after I synced it with iTunes last night.  My iPad 3 is now listing app updates, but it stalls when I try to download them, so I'm updating via iTunes now.
I suspect this is a server problem on Apple's end (I noticed iTunes match isn't working this morning either....). Try syncing your phone with iTunes in the meantime or updating each app individually through the purchased app list (just click on it and you can update on a per app basis).

  • My phone is saying No SIM card installed, when I clearly have my SIM inserted?

My phone is saying No SIM card installed, when I clearly have my SIM inserted. I can't make or receive calls. What can I do to fix this?

Did you already try to remove it and put it back again?
When changing the SIM card, power off the device prior to opening the SIM tray. After you have changed the SIM card for your iPhone you may need to reconnect it to iTunes.
iPhone keeps a record of previously inserted SIM cards, but if the carrier name of your SIM does not show up in the status bar after you changed the SIM you will need to reconnect iPhone to iTunes. If you do not connect iPhone to iTunes after changing or reinserting the SIM, iPhone may not work as expected.
If iPhone does not work with the SIM card after connecting to iTunes, you might need to restore your iPhone. Consult the iPhone User's Guide for more information on iTunes and iPhone.
If your iPhone does not show up in iTunes (on the left hand side of the iTunes window under Devices), please see the following links for assistance:
iPhone: Not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
iPhone: Not recognized in iTunes for Windows
copied from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2309 About swapping SIM cards
If this does not work, contact your provider, maybe your SIM is damaged.
