Phone won't send texts

For some reason, my phone will periodically not send text messages, and the problem won't correct itself until I either reboot it, or I turn on airplane mode, then turn it off. I receive a message that the text message won't send, and it gives me an option to retry. After several retry attempts, I give up and reboot or cycle airplane mode. I've seen some notes across the web about it maybe being a SIM card issue, or potentially a firmware issue. I'm hesitant to restoring the phone to factory, as there are a number of files, apps, and settings I'd have to restore. Any thoughts from the community?

Have you tried to power off, pull the SIM card then re-seat the sim card?

  • My phone won't send texts to ONE person!

Okay, so my best friend and I have been having this issue for WAY too long. I've gone through three phones from Verizon and this STILL happens on every single one and she's gotten two new phones.
On and off for long periods of time, I won't receive any messages she sent me and vice versa. Every so often, something will come through, but otherwise, NOTHING. The problem fixes itself for a little while, then it just stops all together again. Now I don't even think she's getting my phone calls and I'm probably not getting any of hers either. This ONLY happens with her. All my other friends have no problem getting my texts and it's the same way with her.
We have tried EVERYTHING. For a while, it only worked if I sent media messages. Then it only worked if I forwarded a message. Sometimes the time stamps get messed up and it will say it sent, but the time keeps changing on it every time I go to check. Other times, the time stamp will say the message was definitely sent at a specific time, but neither of us have gotten the message.
This is getting ridiculous. Please help.

I'm having the same exact problem with me and only one of my contacts (the one I want to talk to the most go figures ._. ). At first it worked fine then it was an intermittent problem now absolutely nothing is going through; not even phone calls. Everyone else gets my messages fine. Some are geographically farther than the one person, some are closer. Some are on Sprint, some AT&T, some Verizon. There is no common theme except she's the only one not getting them and I'm the only one not getting hers. I thought it was her phone but she got a new phone three days ago and nothing has changed. She has a HTC One X, I have a Droid Bionic. And she says everyone else gets her messages/she receives messages from everyone else fine. I thought maybe a tower was down between us but I'm not sure if that even makes sense. Anyone know what the problem could be? I'm pulling my hair out over this Thanks in advance for the replies.

  • Phone won't send texts all of a sudden.

Messaging has failed for unknown reasons. Phone (prepaid Samsung Gusto) wasn't dropped or reconfigured. Already tried updating it via *288, turning it on and off, and removing/replacing the battery. Any ideas? Thank you for your time.

        AdronSans,
We definitely want to make sure you are able to text. Given that your services are prepaid please reach out to our prepay department at 888-294-6804.

  • My phone won't send or receive texts. Does anyone know why?

Does anyone know why my phone won't send or receive texts? I've updated my phone numerous times.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Beyond that, SMS is a carrier feature.  Contact the carrier to troubleshoot.

  • Won't Send Texts and Now Won't Make Calls... Claims No Service

The other day my phone wasn't sending text messages, I could recieve them and make calls but no one was getting my messages I sent to them.  I've had this problem before and it would usually just correct itself, annoying, but it would.  Well it went on for two full days so I called and did the *228 and reprogrammed my phone.  And yes, I tried taking out the battery also and it didn't work.  It seemed to work after the reprogramming though.  Then the next morning, today, not only did my phone not send messages, after it had been working just fine, but it would not make calls either.  I couldn't even dial *228 without the call being dropped.  A message pops up every few minutes saying messages couldn't be sent and would be sent once service became available.  My phone has no service whatsoever, bars pop up for a second or two and then goes back to absolutely ZERO service.  This is very strange considering I live in a pretty decent service area, have never had issues with it before, and everyone else around here has Verizon as well and haven't had any issues.  On top of this, with my phone constantly searching for service, the battery ran out a lot faster than normal so I turned my phone off, since it was pretty much useless anyways.  Well, good thing I did because while it was one it was sending the text message I sent to my boyfriend this morning, before I'd realized my phone was having issues, over and over.  He recieved well over 100 duplicate messages.  And even when I turn my phone back on it keeps sending the message to him... even though on my end it still says no service and that none of my texts from today have sent and will be sent when service becomes available.  I called Verizon today and the woman I spoke with, while very nice, seemed clueless about my issue and tried to walk me through some troubleshooting she was just reading off of something and she herself didn't even know what she was telling me to do or what the benefit of it was.  When I finally said I was on my break at work and had to get back inside, she informed me she was just going over the basic troubleshooting and I could talk to Tech Support and they could further assist me.  I didn't have any time to stay on the phone then since it had already been 20 minutes that got me nowhere.  My issue now is I don't have a phone to even call Tech Support to try and figure out what's going because I was using a friends at work.  So long story short, my phone claims to not be able to send any messages but has sent over 100 messages to my boyfriend (and God knows who else who just hasn't told me), my phone won't make any calls without dropping them after a second, and my phone has no service even in good service areas... and all of these issues just came out of nowhere and my phone is pretty much unusable at the moment.  What I want to know is if there is anyway to fix this problem... or if I am just going to have to suck it up and get a new phone?  Thank you, I definitely appreciate the help.

Restart the phone by holding down the top/power button and the Home button at the same time until the device restarts.

  • My phone won't send iMessages

My phone won't send iMessages and I'm connected to wifi and I have data. Everything is connected and set up properly with my Apple ID through my phone. What do I do? Also, I'm recieving my mothers text messages through my phone because she is using my iCloud account, how can we fix that?

Try turning it off and on again, that usually works for me.
I'm having problems with iMessage on my Mac, so there might be a problem with Apple's iMessage servers.

  • Droid X Won't Send Text Messages

My Droid X won't send text messages to one of my contacts who also has Verizon when I am in North Carolina. I can send her picture messages from NC but everytime I try to send her a text I get a message saying "text not sent". I can receive messages from her but cannot send them. I don't have any problem when I am at home in Virginia but in North Carolina it won't send my messages. I don't think it is a problem with my plan or coverage bc I can send messages to everyone else in my phonebook, she is the only person that my phone won't send them too. It makes no sense to me. HELP!!!!!

I am also having issues with my Droid Ultra. I get some messages from my wife, while others do not come through.I can verify this by looking at her phone. This has been happening past few days. I also have noticed that a pop up stating that messaging suddenly has stopped working. Please advise!

  • New iPhone won't send texts/make calls

I broke my iPhone 5s a week ago, so I called *228 to put my number on an old iPhone 4 that my friend had so that I had a phone to use while I waited for my new one to come. My new phone is here and i have all my contacts on it as well as my apps, but it won't send text messages or make calls. I can't even call *228. I was wondering what I need to do so that this new phone is associated with my number again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Restart the phone by holding down the top/power button and the Home button at the same time until the device restarts.

  • HT201263 My IPhone4 won't send text message to anyone.

My Iphone won't send text message to anyone. It always say fail and give me a red sign. I already reset it and turn it of and back on. It won't give me a number to choose from and will give me my email account. I call sprint and they say that my IPhone4 is a detective phone/don't work. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it?
It always say waiting for activation and what is SIM
Everything on my IPhone4 work but my message.

This is probably a carrier issue; have you talked to Sprint about this problem? Your complaint was truncated, so it appears to say a "conversation open" at the end. If this is the case then the device is sending text messages, and the other party is receiving them. If this is occurring then it sounds like a problem with the receiving party or carrier.

  • Is it possible to block phone numbers from sending texts?

Is it possible to block a phone number from sending texts?

Only your carrier can do so, there is no setting on any iPhone to block calls/SMS's. Some carriers offer this service, some don't. So, contact yours to see if they do.

  • IPhone 3GS won't send texts anymore!

I have an iPhone 3GS, and since I upgraded to iOS5 it won't send text messages! I have plenty of service, but I can't send texts. The bar will get close to the end, but never say "message sent". I've rebooted and reset everything already multiple times and it STILL won't work. I turned off my 3G and it STILL won't work. it's driving me crazy! It never did this until I upgraded the software. someone please tell me how to fix it!

If you've talked to your cell provider, to verify nothing is wrong on the account provisioning end, the next step would be a device "restore".  This would be the logical next step to take after "reboot and reset".
