Phone won't sync to laptop

My iPhone 4 won't sync photos to iTunes. I followed many suggestions including
1. uninstalling and reinstalling itunes
2 making certain my apple authorized cable works (it does )
3. making cerain the usb ports work (they do)
4. the phone appears as "administrator's iPhone" in iTunes, it says its been backed up but when I try to SYNC it, it will advance through the four steps only to stop at STEP 4 and then just stop doing anything. No pics are transferred.
additional info:
1. my sync button on bottom of iTunes page declares that I'm "over capacity by 2.16 BG"  and my phone says that my "storage is almost full, manage storage in settings"
2. but my icloud account says I've got 16.1GB avail.
What to do? I need the photos
And I accidentally deleted a string of texts from one person (swiped the wrong delete). Can I recover this? I went to my icloud storage page but there is no setting for "texts." What to do?

iTunes does not import photos from your phone to your computer if that's what you're trying to do.  iTunes only syncs photo from your computer to your phone, not the other way around.  This explains how to import photos from your phone to your computer: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support.
Also, having 16.1GB of storage available in your iCloud account does not give you any more available space on your phone.  The two are entirely separate.  If you're running out of space on your phone, you'll have to delete something to make more room (such as importing some of your photos and videos from your phone to your computer, then deleting them from your phone).

I don't have the iPhone button, as illustrated in the first picture. I've tried the tips that are mentioned in the first few steps and still nothing. My phone won't sync at all! I'm not completely computer illiterate; but, I am not well versed either. Could someone please tell me what I need to do to bring this back so I can sync my phone and laptop (windows op system).

The screen-shot is on a Mac computer. It is very similar in Windows iTunes.  Have a look at this set of instructions instead.

  • Why my phone won't sync with iTunes?

My phone won't sync with my computer. it just stops at step 3 everytime it loads.
Apps just won't transfer to phone.

Nope, tried twice but doesn't change a thing.
    Thanks though!

  • My phone won't sync to my laptop, help please!

I have a mac with the latest version of iTunes updated, and an iPhone 5s. Today I tried syncing new music from my laptop onto my phone and it just won't sync. There is more than enough available space on my phone for the few songs I'm trying to sync. Also, when I deleted music from my iTunes library, it won't even delete that from my phone when I attempt to sync it. If anybody knows why this could be, it would be greatly appreciated!

Since your phone is syncing with iCloud, it will not sync your calendar and contacts with your Mac using iTunes.  To solve this, you need to also sync your Mac with your iCloud account.  However, this requires OS X 10.7.5 (Lion) or higher.  If your system supports it (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842), you can download a free upgrade to OS X Mavericks from the Mac App Store.  If your system can only run OS X Lion (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842), you can go here to purchase a redemption code to download it from the Mac App Store.
Once you upgrade the OS X operating system on your Mac, you can go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign into your iCloud account and check the data you want to sync with iCloud (calendars, contacts, etc.).  After that, your Mac will be able to sync with your phone using iCloud whenever it's connected to the internet.

  • Just did the on line update for 3g phone and wiped out all my songs. I have the songs still on my laptop but now phone won't sync

How can I get my phone to sync and put the songs back? I also made back up discs but it won't sync.

Thanks but I solved the problem...it was really simple. Out of 160GB I had only used 34GB, so I knew I had space. What happened was in the process of downloading songs I also downloaded a few episodes of United States of Tara, which was taking a long time to download so even though it said I had 1019 songs the 26 undownloaded were on iCloud, not on my computer. So I paused the downloading of my episodes so my songs could finish downloading. Now my iPod and computer are in sync.
I don't know how this works so I'll give the points anyway, for being the only one who attempted to solve my problem.

  • My phone won't sync to itunes. How can I make it sync?

I haven't updated my phone in almost a year I beleive, becuase the last time I did it my phone got wiped out. My phone has always synced to my itunes on my computer without me updating it but now it won't. it won't even connect to the computer so I can try to update it. So I was wondering if I need to go to an apple store and have them update it for me (if they can even do that) or if theres something I can do. My biggest concern is that I don't want to lose all of my music I have bought that hasn't been transfered to my itunes on my computer.

Plugging the device into any other computer to update it will wipe all the media from the device.  It does not matter if Apple does this or a user.
Failing to sync the device for over a year because you cannot or will not resolve the issue that is occurring is not the smartest thing to do.
Media purchased via iTunes cannot be lost, simply choose "Check for Available Downloads" from iTunes.

  • Contacts on phone won't sync to iCloud

I have some contacts which I recently added to my iPhone; they resolutely stay on my iPhone and won't sync to iCloud (or my Address Book on my Mac). I have checked every setting I can think of, turned things off and on again, but nothing works. The only thing I can think of is that if I click 'Groups' in Address Book on the phone, this particular bunch of people come up under 'Gmail'. But how do I get them out of Gmail and onto iCloud?
    Suggestions appreciated!!

Problem is resolved - I connected phone to macbook pro, resetting my sync settings to include sync via wi-fi,  and  ejected phone; for a while, nothing happened but  after a while, the    contacts newly entered on the macbook pro did  finally show up on phone - so thanks for advice but problem is moot.  And  i am not so sure I would have wanted to delete all my contacts from the phone and trust the iCloud back up -- on the other hand the force- code contacts and re-set phone suggestions look like good ones.
    Many thanks, anyway.

  • My phone won't sync my entire music library

My phone supposedly doesn't have enough room to sync, so what I did was: deleted apps. I also got shared music that I wanted to sync and it won't sync that either. Even songs I've already purchased have turned grey, meaning I cannot sync them nor play them on my IPhone. I had to readd songs I already had, but the other songs that weren't mine, they won't sync at all. I could really use some help with this, because I would really like to have all of my music; including added music.

Sorry I can't help but I did so enjoy how you phrased that.

  • My mini iPad won't sync to laptop. Says needs update, but can't figure out where to update it.

My mini iPad won't sync to my laptop, also a Mac. When I plug it in it says it needs to be updated, but I can't figure it out.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't help post back with more specifics on what is happening. Describe any error messages you get.

  • Why won't my phones won't sync to my itunes?

I have recetly tried to sync my iphone 4 to my itunes. When I connect it to my computer it won't sync to my itunes. My computer however recognises the camera, but that is all. I have tried absolutley everything to fix the problem. There are no error messages, it just does not work, even when i try file and go to sync it doesn't allow me to do so. This isn't just my phone, it is also my partners old phone and new one, so this makes me believe its my itunes. I have tried updating my itunes, authorising and deauthorising, restarting my phone and computer, changing ports, changing leads, turning off the internet and connecting, but none of these seem to work.
    Can anyone please help me?

    Hi hloler,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you may not be able to connect to the iTunes Store. See the "Troubleshooting on Windows" section of this article for some steps you can try:

  • Don't remember my password, now my phone won't sync!

I enabled "encrypt iphone backup on itunes, but forgot the password. Now my phone will not sync. Is there any way that I can retrieve my password? Thanks!

No, there's not. That's why you create one in the first place--for security.
Only thing you can do now is to restore your iPhone as a new phone. All your application data, camera roll photos, etc, will be lost.

  • I bought a new computer and now my phone won't sync calendar with outlook

I bought a new computer and after I set up Windows with Outlook 2010 I tried to sync my Iphone with Outlook, but no luck. The phone used to sync with the old Outlook program.

Did you transfer all of your iTunes content/iTunes library to the new Mac? If you didn't, have you transferred purchases into the new iTunes library from the iPad?

  • My phone won't sync music. just faded grey letters

Information first: I'm using current versions of both iTunes and IOS, iPhone 4s, windows, no cloud, no itunes match, usb to computer connection.
For the past month or so my iTunes has been doing this thing where when I drag my music to my iPhone after syncing it flashes blue like its going to sync, but doesn't load or show the little sync circle thing, and then the songs appear on my phone in a fadded grey and they are unplayable. I've tried a few different methods but I'm not really one for tinkering and possibly ruining my collection as is.
I'm in need of serious help since I have bought several cds lately and added them to my iTunes liabrary but they remain unplayable. I'm not pleased.

I should probably add that the error message I receive when my phone attempts to sync music is just that "itunes has stopped working"

  • Updated to ios7 and iTunes 11.1, Music won't play/phone won't sync

I updated my iPhone 4s to ios7 today. I updated itunes to itunes 11.1 so I could sync it (on a toshibia pc running windows vista).
Ever since the update, my Iphone won't play music that I haven't purchased off the itunes store, even though it does appear on my phone, and my itunes has been stuck on "waiting for changes to be applied" and won't finish the section of the sync.
    What should I do?

having the same issue, everything i have tried doesn't seem to work. never had a problem until i installed 11.1
all my albums are now in the itunes library but even that isn't making any diffrence, spent a good few hours yesterday reinstalling my music...just a waste of time, same thing happened. will keep you posted if i find any answers

  • Ipod touch won't sync on laptop but different ipod will sync

I'm having some issues trying to sync my wife's ipod touch.  She's had it for a couple years and we haven't had any issues with it before.  She purchased a couple songs recently and when we connected the ipod a message came up saying there was a software update available for the ipod so we downloaded the update.  After we did that her ipod will charge when we connect it but it won't register that it's connected so we can't sync it.  Sometimes an error message will pop up saying something about not being able to connect.
I have searched online and tried everything suggested but nothing works.  I downloaded the latest itunes update, uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, tried a different usb cable and different usb port and non of that worked.  I even hooked up my ipod nano to see if it was a computer issue or ipod issue, my ipod syncd perfectly fine so it's gotta be a problem with her ipod.
I've also restarted the ipod, nothing will get it to sync.  The ipod will still work and I've thought about trying to sync it to our my laptop but if I do that then I risk her losing all of her music on her ipod and being stuck with mine if we can't get it to sync with her computer.
I'm all out of ideas, anyone encounter this problem?  Also if I bring it into the Apple Store is there anything they can do to try and fix it?
    Thank you.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
