Phonebook Contact Photos Look Terrible - what's wrong?

I have a T-Mobile Blackberry 8900 Curve (which I LOVE!) Just yesterday I updated the device software (v.4.6.1.231 using the new Desktop Software for MAC!) and I've noticed that all of my phonebook contact photos (for caller ID) are now compressed or look blurry/out of focus. When I pull the photos up in my Media file they look great-- but when someone calls or I place a call, the photo looks terrible! This has never been an issue before. Any ideas/suggestions?
Thank you!

Deselect "sync photos", which will take off all of your pictures during the following sync. Activate the option again and put them back onto your phone, that should solve your problem.

My iPhone has recently been crashing (or rather the apps) when I would try to access my text messages, contacts, phonebook, facebook, or email. I tried restarting my phone and lost all of my contacts. This has been happening more and more frequently. Today I was in my pictures and was trying to crop one and my phone shut off completely. Anyone know what's wrong with it or how to fix it?

Make sure all apps are fully closed:
- double tap your home button
- hold your finger on an app
- when the apps start to wiggle press the red "-" button on all the apps
Now do a hard reset:
- hold the home button and the sleeps/wake button down at the same time
- the phone will shut off then when the apple logo ppears release both buttons
If by then your contacts have not been restored you would need to try and retreive them from a back up on itunes/icloud that was made when the contacts were on the phone. You could even stream them from the cloud if they were synced to the cloud. The link beow will show you how to restore from an itunes/icloud back up:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Also to prevent this issue which i have seen alot when users are still running iOS 5 it would be best to update the iOS on your phone. To do this follow the link below:

Hope this helps

• HT1766 I have updated to ios5 lost apps, contact, photo, etc.. what can I do?

I HAVE UPDATED TO VERSION 5.1.1(9B206) LOST MY APP, CONTACT, PHOTO, ETC....WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THAT?

Did you do a backup of your phone or have a backup prior to doing the update? If you have one then restore your phone to that backup http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 . IF you don't then all your pics/texts are gone.
You can sync your phone with itunes, to get back apps and contacts.

• 'optimized' photos look terrible. What am I doing wrong.

I have a 3GS and have synced with my laptop before (HP pos), I also use the same laptop to sync to my iPad.
Now that I have upgraded my iPhone to iOS4 all my synced pictures are of terrible quality, they look ok on the iPad still and ok on the laptop but the iPhone looks very bad. I know that iTunes 'helpfully' decides that I want to save space and optimizes the images for me, is this a bug or can you adjust this in the settings some where.

• Photos Look Terrible After Upgrade

I use my iPhone as a mini-portfolio so most of the photos in have in it are downloaded from Aperture. After I upgraded to 4.0, all the pix look bad. What happened?

• My photos look terrible in the library module after editing in the develop module. They look nothing alike. How do I solve this issue? Using Lightroom 5.

anyone have any ideas? The only way I can get around this is export the photo back into iPhoto and try to edit out the mess.

The waves you are seeing on your monitor must be more pronounced than what I'm seeing in the posted screenshots. The Library module uses Adobe RGB AND 8-bit JPEG preview images, which can cause banding in fine gradient areas (compared to Develop view), but I'm not seeing a huge difference in your screenshots. Here's a screen shot with my non-wide gamut monitor calibration profile. If my screenshot shows less banding than what you are seeing with the original images it indicates a monitor profile issue as described by twenty-one. A hardware calibrated monitor is recommended to prevent these types of issues.
The Library image also appears lighter in the shadow area, which probably indicates more Luminance NR needs to be applied or perhaps less sharpening. Try it and see if that helps with the issue.

• HT3805 Aperture (Current version) won't populate photo place holder from Aperture Library, found one photo that would, what's wrong?

Yesterday 10-4-2011, I downloaded the Aperture App. I haven't gone to my Aperture class yet, but wanted to know why the photo place holder in an email stationary application will not accept a drag and drop from the Aperture library. I did find only one photo that actually did populate, what do you think is the difference with all the rest of my photos?
I did import all my photos and movies to Aperture from the iPhoto Library and then deleted my iPhoto Library.
Thanks

• I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 12..It was installed on a previous p.c. and I just purchased a new p.c. I installed the program on the new p.c. but it wont let me edit photos...what is wrong?

Can anyone help me with my problem?

Hi Shirley, If you can get to Expert Mode in the Editor it should be possible to click the top menu: Help >> Sign-in. If that doesn’t work you need to contact Adobe directly using the link below. Use the dropdown menu for boxes (1) & (2) to scroll down the list and choose:
1. Adobe Photoshop Elements
2. Adobe ID, and signing-in
3. Click on the blue button: Still need help? Contact us – then click the area marked chat 24/7, then click “start chat ”
It’s usually possible to start a live chat, if an Adobe agent is free, and often to get the problem fixed right away. Have your serial number available. The agent can directly troubleshoot your system if you agree to activate the Adobe Connect add-on.

• Photos not updating -- what's wrong?

In iPod options, I have a couple albums selected to automatically update when I sync my iPod, but no photos are getting on there. No problem with music, just photos.
Any ideas?

I discovered that when I plugged in the Nano for the first time after installing the new software, I had it filled itself with all the music that would fit. The problem was that it filled the entire memory with music (because my music library is larger than 4GB) and there was nothing left for photos.
My fix was that I created a Smart Playlist in iTunes containing a limit of 3GB of music, and then I asked iTunes to only fill the Nano with the Smart Playlist I created (use the Preferences menu for the iPod). This way, I had 1 GB left over (I know, this is overkill, but I did have a lot of photos I wanted to put on there).
Next time I plugged the Nano in, it filled with the music I wanted and the photo albums I selected. This solved my problem. I hope it solves the others that appear in this thread.

• Why do my contact photos keep getting assigned to the wrong person/number?

This has happened to me twice recently: my phone rings and the wrong contact photo appears with the wrong phone number. All my contact photos are assigned to the wrong person/phone number. Any ideas on what's going on? Thanks!

Thanks for your reply.
Can I get this straight in my mind? Does this mean that I will have to put ALL the photos stored on my Laptop into ONE large folder, then divide it up into sub-folders? Then I can copy each sub-folder?
Sorry to sound stupid, but most things I try on my ipod don't seem to work for me. I think I am getting a bit old for all this.....lol.
.......Actually thinking back, a while back I did click on my main folder called "Nikon" and that did copy everything in it, but just in one whole lot, ie 1,000 photos.........................so nothing was sub-divided into folders, ie. holiday 2010, holiday 2011. Is that another problem I have created for myself?
Thanks for your patience.

• What is wrong with iMessage?

This is an incredibly disappointing app. Apple took something simple from the iPhone (text messaging) and screwed it up. Type iMessage into this board's search window and you get several threads complaining this app doesn't work.
It should work the way it does on the iPhone. When I see the same icon and label as on my iPhone, it should work the same. On any device I should be able to send a text (MMS or SMS) to any phone. It should have added the ability to send them to iPads. These should have been core capabilities.
Instead, it must be an iOS5 device that has to be registered and there are these silly rules for what address you put in it based on what device you are using. It does a verification that the address is registered that so far has rejected everything I've tried. Something as simple as sending a message from my iPad to my iPhone and it tells me that an email address I pulled from my contacts isn't registered. Both devices have iOS5, the email address was my MobileMe account that both have their mail apps synched to and they were both sitting on a WiFi. I even tried putting them on 3G. No change.
Maybe I can't send a message to myself; I tried sending one to my wife. She also has an iPad and iPhone with iOS5 and an email account synched to both devices. It seems my wife isn't registered either. I haven't figured out how to break the bad news to her. Maybe she'll take consolation in the fact that I too have been declared unregistered by Apple.
Seriously, thought, how did this pass Beta testing? How did one of the best programming companies on the planet not catch the problems in this? Apple needs to take a serious look at what went wrong. Somewhere their vaunted process broke down.
I'm going to cut my losses and put this app in a 'worthless app' folder and find something else.

Thank you for the link. It both explained and confirmed my thoughts about iMessage. I have checked that everything is turned on and we do have everything registered with iCloud (which should have nothing to do with this).
I am glad that it works for you. I still can't get it to work. Why not? Apple prides itself on "just working out of the box" and this app requires me to try and figure out more than I should have to. I could have stuck with Linux for this.
As I stated in my original post, there are some core capabilities Apple should have put into this. It shouldn't matter that it isn't a phone; the idea is to sent data from one device to another. Cell networks, data networks and WiFi should easily handle that.
This app reaches too few people and requires too much trouble to get working. Again, thank you for the link.

You can't update to Firefox 6 on OS X 10.4
*Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

The iPod touch 5 battery won't charge, the iPod battery gets hot and doesn't turn on... What is wrong? Can photos and data be retrieved?

- See:
iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
- Try another charging source
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. I suspect a hardware problem due to the hotness. If iTunes can't see the iPod then uor only hope if to contact a data recovery company for getting data off the iPod. If you have an iPod backup you can restore another iPod, iPhone or iPad from the backup to get the data that was in the backup

• I tested my new Canon 5D Mark iii with my 85 1.2 L lens. The images look terrible! What gives?

I just purchased a new Canon 5D Mark iii body. It is replacing my 1Ds Mark ii. I tested it with my 85 1.2 L series lens. I took the RAW images into Capture One 7 to look at them. I was highly disturbed at what I saw. The quality was no where near my Canon 1Ds Mark ii. The images seemed somewhat soft even after applying a consderable amount of sharpening. They also looked flat and lifeless, even after pumping the contrast and adding Clarity. All in all they looked terrible! I must have something wrong, as I have read countless times that the new chip gives incredible results.
When first attempting to set up my camera I set it to Adobe RGB and for RAW images only. I noticed that you seemed forced into deciding on a specific "Picture Style". I left it on the default settting of "Standard". Should that effect my RAW files, or is that bypassed altogether when shooting RAW? I noticed that in "Standard" mode that some in camera sharpening was applied to the files. Is that my problem? Should that be turned down to zero, as I would normally do all my sharpening afterward either in Capture One 7 or other software. I shot all my test images with fast shutter speeds so that is not the issue. This lens is in perfect condition and has always produced incredibly sharp contrasty images. What on earth could be wrong? Any suggestions? I am a professional shooter for the last 20 years, so this is really perplexing me! Help!!!

Hi Corey,
Picture styles are ONLY applied to JPEG images or video. They are never applied to RAW. Canon will "tag" the meta-data of the image indicating picture style choices so that desktop processing software that understands those choices can apply it after-the-fact. But the point of "RAW" is that the camera will not perform any change to the image which would result in a loss of original data.
As for the soft focus... the good news there is probably nothing wrong with your camera or your lens. It probably just needs a slight focus calibration adjustment (you don't even need to send it in for this.)
The camera sensor is analogous to a movie screen. If the image is blurry... it's not the movie screen... it's the movie projector (or the focus). However... keeping with that analogy... suppose we focused the image perfectly... but then moved the project a foot closer to the screen. The result would be a slightly out-of-focus image even though there is actually nothing wrong with the projector.
The phase detect focus sensors are on the floor of your camera. When the reflex mirror is down, some light is bounced down into those sensors to focus the image. The distance to the AF sensors vs. the distance to the real sensor is supposed to be calibrated to match... but it's actually possible for the AF sensors to think the image is focused when it's really slightly out of focus on the sensor. For this reason, your camera has auto-focus micro-adjustment capability -- in other words this is something you can test and tune yourself. The REASON you might do it yourself is because it turns out it can be different for every lens (even two EF 85mm f/1.2L lenses in a row might have slightly different focus). This adjustment is only available on the mid-range and pro bodies -- it's part of the reason you buy a premium body. The camera can actually remember the AF adjustment for each lens uniquely.
See this article: http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2008/12/this-lens-is-soft-and-other-myths
Or this article: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/are_your_pictures_out_of_focus.shtml
BTW, to test the lens, I'd suggest getting a focus calibration target. You want controlled conditions when you do this -- don't shoot typical everday subjects because it wont be precise enough.
I use a DataColor Spyder "LensCal". The LensAlign products are also popular.
