Phones ear piece

When someone calls me or i call someone, i can barely hear the other person on the other line. Can anyone tell me whats wrong with it or how to fix it? This is my first iphone. Just to clarify it, it's the ear piece on the phone itself, not the head phones. Thanks

I have the same problem, even with the volume turned all the way to the maximum. For comparison purposes, I also still have my AT&T iPhone4, and the AT&T version is much louder at the earpiece.
BTW, I have one of those Sennheiser call-center headsets that I was using with my AT&T iPhone4 when I had to make calls while driving (since it has fantastic noise cancellation abilities and is a binaural headset). It worked great. But on my Verizon iPhone4, it works very poorly, causing an echo and some crackling sound.
Evidently Apple made more changes to the Verizon version than just a CDMA radio. Can anyone else confirm these findings? If so, I'll know it's a design flaw; if not, I'll exchange my Verizon iPhone4 for another one to see.

HT204368 have a blueant Q2 that does not like to stay connected. Have phone in shirt pocket but ear piece drops in and out at will. Blueant says they do not have a proble, has to be Iphone. any ideas at $99.99 plus tax and can't use it, well you figure it

Received new iphone 5 for Christmas. Also Blueant Q2 blue tooth ear piece. Phone works great, blueant, not so. Have had numerous emails and phone calls to tech about dropping out. There is no active phone, you are connected and all I have to do is move my head to have either happen. I keep the phone in my shirt pocket and it can't be over 10-14 inches from one to the other. Any thoughts and suggestions???? At $99.99 plus tax just can;\'t afford to hit it with a hammer.

The ear piece on my phone has gone quite

Ive had my iPhone 4 for nearly 2 years & all of a sudden the ear piece has gone very quite I've turned up the volume without success any suggestion please.

"ear piece" - do you mean the ear speaker on the phone or the headset? You need to provide more specific detail, including what troubleshootings steps you've tried.

Does your ear piece on the phone rattle?

my volume is set to about mid level on the ear piece built into the phone itself. when i first listen to the ATT voice setup automated voice, I noticed it was rattling the the phone speaker.
Then someone called me, and sure enough, it sounds like a crackle, or rattle in the ear piece. Turn it down where I can barely hear it, and it stops the rattle.

no problem here (or hear) - or with anyone I have talked too that has one. Mine sounds fine.
Here's how you fix it. Drive to your local Apple store and ask them to replace the phone with a non-rattle version. Maybe that one was designed for young children or snake wranglers in west texas.

Bose Bluetooth ear piece locking up phone. Ipone 4s.

I'm having a issue with my Bose Bluetooth ear piece. It will work for an hour then when a call comes in and I pick it up it switches to Speakerphone. This is when the phone goes wacky cannot call out or take calls,all the microphones on the phone shut off like its muted by itself. I have to power down the phone and restart and its fine. I have tried two different Bose ear piece and they both do the same thing. Its funny it will work for a few hours then Halloween out!

Its a hardware problem!
I had exact same issue. I went to the Genius Bar at Apple and the first thing the tech wanted to do was restore factory setting, without a back up (which meant I would lose some settings and pics that I could not back up). He also warned me that I would not be able to restore the phone from my back up as it could possibly re-introduce the bug that c caused the problem. I agreed (under protest) and waited while he did the restore. When it was done, I had the issue of resetting my vm password, to which he instructed me that I would have to go to AT&T to resolve. Luckily there is an AT&T kiosk just outside the door to the Apple store. They instructed me to call 611 to resolve the issue. While attempting the 611 call, the same issue started again (speaker came on automatically, could not shut off, person couldn’t hear me etc.) I went back in the store and the tech then placed two “test” calls to the store itself and the phone worked fine. He was still not satisfied and sent me away. As I walked out of the mall, I called AT&T again and the speaker button got stuck. I left the call connected and brought the phone back into the Apple store with the call connected and the speaker button stuck. The tech finally agreed it was more likely to be a hardware issue vs a software problem and replaced the handset. I came back to the office, restored my phone from my back up with all my apps, configurations, settings etc. and the new handset works fine. All Bluetooth devices (headset, phone) etc. work beautifully!

I have the same problem!! It lead to many other problems with my phone
I just arranged a repair with apple. Yes its inconvenient to be without a phone for a while but if your phone is in warranty its good to get it looked at professionally!

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches after installing new software or apps.

After upgrading to iOS5 - phone ear speaker is NOT working

Well, my excitement from upgrading to the new iOS5 on my iPhone 4 gave way to frustration when I found out that the phone's built-in ear speaker is no longer working. Tried everything from a hard reset, to re-syncing with iTunes, playing around with every setting I could find, and a few "fixes" I found online that were absolutely useless and did nothing.
This only appears to happen when making or receiving phone calls (and listening to voice mail) - when I select speaker, all audio plays normally, but clicking back over to headset, and nothing. Earbuds also work okay.
Prior to installing iOS5 this problem did not exist in the least.
Apple - I am going to ASSUME you properly beta tested this OS on ALL compatible devices prior to its release, did you not? Apparently (from my web searching) I am not the only person suffering this malfunction with their iPhone after upgrading to iOS5.
Is there anyone out there that has figured out a way to fix this, or am I just screwed? I don't know how to revert back to iOS 4.3.3 if that's even possible at this point. This is a phone I use for work, and I need to have this functioning properly.

I'm having exactly the same problem with my iPhone 4. Since the upgrade to IOS5, I've noticed I can no longer hear calls through the ear-piece, though using the speaker phone option works fine.
I took my phone to the Apple Store in Sydney and they advised that the problem was related to my sim card & that I should contact my telco for a replacement. I seriously didn't believe the Apple rep when she said this, but politely said thanks, went home and tried it out by swapping my sim with my wife's.
Guess what... it didn't make the slightest difference.
My wife has an iPhone 4 still running IOS4 and the ear-piece works fine. I even put my sim card into her phone and it worked fine as well. So the issue is definitely not related to the sim card.
It sounds like a common issue affecting a lot of iPhone 4 users that have upgraded to IOS5. I'm surprised Apple hasn't acknowledged this and have a patch available to correct (it doesn't sound like a hardware issue).
Anyway, looks like a trip back to the Apple store for more great suggestions.

Problem with ear piece

I am using the communicator 9500 model. Recently I started having earing problems when receiving a call. I can only hear a caller with the speaker phone, i.e. when the phone is openned. This affect my privacy, as everyone could hear my conversations. However, when I take the battery off and turn it on again, the ear piece would start working, but for a few hour only. What do I do and what could be the problem?

maybe you could take the phone to an engineer? sounds like a problem with the hardware itself...
