"phonetic name", wi-fi, 3G, teaching Siri, 4s battery (???)

Hi.
I have an iphone 4s and i'm not being able to add a phonetical name to an existing contact on my contacts list.
i select the contact, click on edit, and then on add field, but the "phonetical" thing does not appear.
Does anybody know how to solve this? Or what might be wrong?
Another questions...
my wi-fi at home is much slower than my 3G. Is that normal? Because when i'm at home and i want to use the wi-fi, it's too slow... It is just too annoying...!!
How can i teach Siri, to make her understand what i say, correctly?
Thank you guys! Sorry for the amount of doubts!
ps. i'm also having problems with the 4s battery, and hoping Apple solve this issue soon! Fingers crossed!

well, my wi-fi modem is only connected to my computer by a cable. and i don't share the signal with anyone else.
the bandwidth on the computer it is quite fast, so i find it very strange that the 3G is faster then the wi-fi.
finally i could find an answer on the phonetic name here on the forum...!!
as for the battery, i already did the most of the things being taught on the forum to maximize its life. but its such a shame....
thanks for the peply!

  • How can I teach siri to pronounce my name?

My last name is pronounced with a long "a" like in "baker." How can I train Siri to not pronounce it like "backer?"
I've tried adding the phoenetic field to my contact record but that just messes up the sort order of the records. Plus, can't I teach Siri once and not have to do this for my entire family?

I agree. This is an unacceptable problem (AKA Bug) that needs addressed (AKA fixed) ASAP (AKA immediately).
It is bad enough that it actually shows you (the person who already knows how to pronounce it) the phonetic spelling, but that is mistakenly uses it for sort order is utterly frustrating and unacceptable.
Note to APPLE . . . Hey smart guys . . . FIX THIS NOW!

  • HT204389 How do I teach Siri to spell my name correctly in texts and emails?  She spells it Jerry instead of Jeri.

How do I teach Siri to SPELL my name correctly in texts and emails?  She knows who I am from My a Info.  She insists on spelling my name as he male version instead of female (or my info spellng).

    Say:
    "No space on. No caps on. s h e r i
No space off. No caps off."
That would start her name with a lower case a.
But you can play around starting there to get it the way you like.

  • How to teach siri names of companies and towns?

    Hello all,
several year ago, sombody asked the same question without any reply. (see here: How can I teach Siri on iPhone 4S to understand names of towns or companies?)
Maybe it's now possible to teach Siri how to pronounce the names of companies and towns. But i have no idea how. I know how to teach the names of a person, but obviously it's not possibile to teach other names.
    Thanks for any help

Ajit, I would choose a different way although your solution is working it will take a lot of time to edit all the buttons. Whenever possible I try to offer timesaving tips. And that means: first see what you can edit in Preferences (for this project alone or for all projects), then look at the Master slides, and only in last instance go into editing of the slides themselves. Hope you don't mind this remark, after all I'm only a user.
@jun jun  This works only if you do it before inserting question slides. Go into Quiz, Preferences, Default Labels. You will find there the labels for the buttons Submit, Submit All, Clear, Back, Next. You have to be aware that the Next button doubles as a Skip button during the Quiz, it is acting as a Next button (and necessary) during Review. More info: Question Question Slides in Captivate - Captivate blog
The advantage of adjusting the Preferences is that this will propagate on the different Quiz Master slides.
For the text 'Accuracy' and other text fields on the score slide, edit the labels on the Master slide for the score.

  • No space between phonetic name and department

Has anyone experienced a problem on iPhone running iOS7 when using contacts. I recently added information to one of my contacts: department, phonetic name, company, etc. When I was done, I pushed "Done" and it showed me info without space between phonetic name and department. Words were written together. How can I contact apple to tell them to fix that issue?

    Hi there
I may be wrong in my understanding with this. My own understanding is that when you have expanding text, the space between the expanded text and the next text was removed. For example:
Here is a sentence with expanding text to click on.
And if the user clicked the expanding text, the expansion occurred, but removed the space between the expanded text and the next word. So it looked like this:
Here is a sentence with expanding textexpanded text contentto click on.
So my understanding was that the update would correct things so that they looked like this:
Here is a sentence with expanding textexpanded text content to click on. (Note the space between "content" and "to".)
What you seem to be describing is that the text looks like this when you expand it:
Here is a sentence with expanding textexpanded text content to click on.
But you would prefer it look like this instead:
Here is a sentence with expanding text expanded text content to click on. (Note the added space between "text" and "expanded".)
My thought is that you can work past this by simply inserting a space character to precede the expanded text.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Can I teach Siri my accent?

Every time I ask Siri to "play", it tries to "call"! I have a Scottish accent, tho' not particularly strong, and even when I say it "play" and "call" sound NOTHING alike!

  • How can I teach Siri to pronounce my name correctly?

I'm pretty used to everyone pronouncing my name wrong, so I didn't really expect Siri to get it right.  However, I really don't want to have to always hear the mispronunciation whenever I use Siri.  I haven't had much time to play with it or anything, so it might be obvious, but I was just wondering if there is a way to teach her to pronounce it and how to do so. Thanks!

The masses seem to be saying that this feature works on ALL contacts that Siri mis-pronounces. I, and others, cannot get that to happen. The Troubleshooting link provides the following, which is genuinely ambiguous as to whether it applies to all contacts, or just "yours." Notice, it is under the main heading of "Providing Siri With User Information." It also contains a typo that says "If Siri is pronouncing a name correctly[sic] you can...." when the instructions are to help with INcorrectly prounounced names. Still waiting for an answer.
    Providing Siri with User Information
Siri uses relational data from your Contact to learn about the people close to you. Information on what you can let Siri know is available in the iPhone User Guide.
To set your contact tap Settings > General > Siri > My Info and select your contact.
If Siri is pronouncing a name correctly you can add phonetic first and last names to your contact entries:
    Open the Contacts application.
Select the contact that Siri is mispronouncing.
Tap "edit" in the upper right corner of the screen.
Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap "add field".
Add phonetic first and last names as needed.
The new fields will show up at the top of the contact. You can then spell out your name phonetically to assist with pronunciation.
When finished making changes to the contact, tap Done in the upper right corner of the screen.

  • How do I teach Siri to spell my wife's name correctly in texts?

When I use Siri to dictate text messages she always spells my wife's name "Aaron" when her name is actually Erin. It's frustrating that no matter how many times it select Aaron and change it to Erin, she never incorporates that info in the future. I've tried teaching her to pronounce my wife's name via asking her "Who is my wife?" But this only seems to teach her what contact corresponds to "my wife". That also does nothing to change that she always spells Aaron when dictating anything to her. It would be great to discover a solution.

    I made a mistake.
Open the contact for this person, press the Edit button, scroll to the bottom and press "+" next to Add Field, select Phonetic First Name.  Here type in the spelling that Siri is using (Aarom), Press the Done button and try Siri again and Say Call Erin (Not Aarom)

I write books on the tarot and astrology, and Siri can't seem to understand me when I typed the word Tarot in text messages, no matter how many times I try to pronounce it. I tried to the technique of teaching her the word the contacts, but that's not working either. Even if I pronounce it like carrot

  • Why is Contacts sorting by phonetic name?

I just started using the phonetic last name field in Contacts in order to make dialing by voice a little more intuitive.  Almost right away I thought my phone was deleting my contacts, they were disappearing.
After a bit of digging I realized that the list was now sorting my contacts by their phonetic spelling, not the real spelling.  So if I wanted to find someone whose name begins with J, but the sound is a Y, I would have to look in the Y's.  It looks something like this:
    Yeager, Tom
    Jesus, Phil
    Young, Sam
Clearly Phil should be up with the J's, but there he is, down in the Y's.
This is going to make finding people much LESS intuitive.  It may be easier to go back to mispronouncing their names in order to dial.
Does anyone know how to make it stop doing this?  It is almost like a bug... I mean, who sorts a contact list phonetically?  Is there a way to report this to Apple?

If you right click on the song and then Get Info. Under the Sorting Tab, is the Sort Artist field different from the Artist field?

  • Can I teach Siri new words?

I want to ask Siri to look up things on the internet, and there are quite a few words she doesn't understand (i.e."weimeraner").  Is there any way to teach her complex words i use often?

Julian, thanks for this thought! I added the word I needed into my contacts. Gave it my phone number and asked Siri to call it. Then I went to my notepad and said the word. Siri knew it! There folks, now you can teach Siri

  • Siri is not showing the correct owner name.  When I ask Siri, "What is my phone number?" it shows me contact that is in my phone.  Why Is this?

When I ask Siri "What is my phone number?" Siri shows the incorrect #.  It gives me a contact in my phone, which obviously isn't me.  Why is this and how can I fix it?

In your settings... you have the "My info" VCARD selection with someone else and not your info... just change that and yo'll get what you're expecting to hear when you ask Siri that...

  • How to teach Siri where my Home is.

I want to have Siri remind me of something when I arrive at Home.
Problem is my address is not in the maps database. I've tried several things but so far non have worked. Here's what I've tried:
    1. I entered my address as Home in my Contacts app. When I tap on the address the maps app shows an incorrect location.
    2. I used the Maps app to drop a pin on my current location (when I was home). I then tapped on the blue arrow and select to add this location to an existing contact. I selected my contact. But when I tapped on that address in my Contacts app I was taken to a location on the Maps app that was far from where I dropped the pin.
    3. I searched these forums for a solution and found several fairly old threads. None of the suggestions worked for me.
I'm using iOS 6.1.2 on my iPhone 5.

Have you sent an error report using apple maps to correct the problem with your address? That is the only way things get fixed if you report them. You can do it by clicking on the turned up page edge in the bottom right corner of the screen and then clicking on report problem.
