Phono plug to firewire?

Hello. I have some old video footage on a camcorder with a phono plug outlet. Does anyone have any ideas how I could access the video footage/download it onto the Mac? I don't have a camcorder that can record from the television so I recorded the footage onto a DVD and now realise there is no way to import from a DVD to imovie either. The video footage is precious and I would really like to get it onto the Mac for editing. Help!

How can I plug a firewire IEEE on a macbook pro 17?

I have also a Minolta Multiscan with a Firewire IEEE 1394 cable.
I cannot use it on the MBP as it is a Firewire 800 but after looking into the solutions on the net, I figured out I need an adaptor from Firewire IEEE to Firewire 800...isn't it?
Yes, you'll need a FW 800 to 400 cable. The device will run at FW400 speed. Here's one example: http://www.amazon.com/LaCie-FireWire-Cable-130849-Orange/dp/B001NXDQAY

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro battery will not charge after plugging in firewire cable shut down computer

I have a mid 2010 15" Macbook pro with Lion installed.
I was running off battery, and I went to plug in a firewire cable, not plugged into anything, and when I inserted it, the computer shut off.
The computer would not turn on again without being plugged into the AC adaptor. The magsafe charger shows green, but the computer says not charging. The battery is showing 57%, but the indicator lights will only light up when AC charger is connected..
I have let it sit off, and plugged in for a couple hours, and nothing chages, and let it sit overnight not plugged in, but nothing.
I have read other forums about the same issue,, it seems like its a common issue, and some have said what it could be, but no one said what it IS.
I have tried resetting the SMC and PRAM, but to no avail.
When i plug in the AC adaptor, the computer immediately turns on (which I find kond of funny), and I am able to turn it off normally, and it will stay off, and I can also turn it on if the charger has been connected from pervious.

  • FCP & other programs not opening when plug in Firewire

    Hello,
First, please forgive the double posting - but I just didn't think that I had made myself very clear lastnight, and I wanted to rectify that.
The problem is, that whenever I plug my camera/deck into my G5 with my firewire, no program will open, including Final Cut. I tried Repairing Permissions, and shutting down and unplugging everything, then powering back up again. Then, I turn on the camera and try opening any program, even Disk Utility, and it will not open (giving me the spinning beach ball) until I turn the camera off. This is making things very difficult, especially since I have projects in Final Cut, that I need to Print to Video, view on my tv monitor, or do anything at all.
I might add that this has indeed worked before, and after some 'futzing' w/it, it would work, but I had been 'futzing' for over 2 hrs., and have lost way too much time. In addition, in order to Log and Capture, I've been 'daisy chaining', using my Dazzle, as well as the camera w/the tv, but, it does not work the other way around, when trying to export -- thanks very much!

In response to: "Has the dazzle and the camera ever been connected to the computer at the same time?" and, "Have they both been turned on while both connected at the same time"?
No, they cannot be connected at the same time - I only have 2 firewire ports, one is for the Lacie external drive, the other is for either the Dazzle or Firewire. I unpluged the Dazzle to make way for the Firewire lastnight, because I wanted to Print to Video, and could not, because no program would open up, w/the Firewire plugged in.
I will try resetting the PMU, thanks. Not sure how the camera could be the suspect, as it used to work just fine, and it's less than 2 yrs. old, but will take into consideration.
"(You have taken any hard drive out of the chain while you are troubleshooting - right?)" When I shut everything down lastnight, I unplugged everything, including the Lacie, then plugged everything back in, is that what you mean? Thanks Studio X.

Yes, I have tried different firewire cables and such.  Removed my firewire hub, tried plugging into the actual ports on the MacPro and plugging in the firewire ports on the back of my Cinema 30 display.  I even bought a new firewire cable just to make sure.  So for now I guess I am going to downgrade my MacMini to Snow Leopard and use that machine to do video capture.
So last night I removed the primary harddrive from the MacPro.  I installed a new 1TB harddrive. Formatted that drive and did a clean install of Mountain Lion and ran all software updates.  Crashes when I plugin my firewire cameras with no other software but the OS.
So then I reformatted the drive and did a clean install of Lion and did all software updates.  Still crashes.
I formatted the drive for a third time, this time installing Snow Leopard.  Did all software updates.  Plugged in my cameras one at a time and no crash.  I installed iLife '11 and was able to video capture with iMovie via the firewire port.
I am pretty convinced that my hardware (at least) is in working order, otherwise it would have crashed with Snow Leopard also (correct me if my conclusion is incorrect).  So I am inclined to agree with you that I may have triggered a bug in the OS.
Thank you for your insights.  How do I go about reporting this issue to the Apple Software Engineers?

  • Musician looking for "base" for macbook  to plug usb/firewire gear into

    Hello,
I am a musician and I am currently sort of rebuilding my studio and I have a new Macbook that I would like to use as the basis of my studio.
Now I have quite a bit of external "stuff" in firewire and usb that I plan to plug into the macbook when I place it on my desk. Things such as external harddrives, usb midi keyboards, external soundcards and so forth.
I was wondering if there is one of those "base" or cradles out there that I could plug all of this gear into so I don't have to constantly plug and unplug everything. That way I can just set the Macbook in it and go. I presume this base would also help to keep the Macbook substantially cooler.
Does anyone have any suggestions for something like this that I could use?

The MB doesn't have a dock or as you call it "base". Your really not going to be able to utilize more than what you have there. Speaking from experience. Sometime I use Protools LE rack unit, M Audio 88 key Midi Controller & a Yamaha Motif ES Rack. Just make sure you keep your computer running clean and get the full 2GB mirrored RAM.

  • Plug in firewire problem...help please

This weekend i purchased a new iMac (3.06 Ghz ). (Free financing for 12 months.)
When i tried to plug in an external firewired hard drive it seems that the male plug from my fw hard drive does not match actually larger then the female port for the firewire.
    Is that possible?
because at the moment I feel as though I would be forcing the plug in and there goes the warranty.

That is because your new Imac has a Firewire 800 plug and you have a Firewire 400 device. You just need an adapter like this one.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • Plug in Firewire...nothing...

My last mac book was 9mos old and went in for service 3 times. Finally got my new macbook last month. With imovie 08 on it. Now when I hook up my sony hc38 it does nothing. Acts as if nothing is connected. My last one I just plugged it in and it started right up to download. Does this have to do with 08 or is my second macbook a lemon?

Silly question, but did you try opening up imovie? Mine wont start up automatically either when I connect my cam, I have to open imovie myself but thats no big deal.

  • Do you need an adapter to plug firewire into an expresscard slot?

    Hi,
I was wondering if you need an adapter to plug a firewire cable into an expresscard slot? also does it accept both firewire 400 and 800? what else does the expresscard slot do?

The expresscard slot does nothing by itself. It is the modern equivalent of the pcmcia or PC card slot. It is an interface that allows you to plug in an adapter card that does whatever function the designer of the card built into it. If you need to connect a peripheral that the MBP doesn't have an interface for, you look for an expresscard that implements the missing interface.
    This link
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExpressCard
will tell you all about the slot.

  • FireWire if plugged in; Airport if not

I usually connect to my LAN from my PowerBook via my Airport card. Occasionally, I do large file transfers. I'd like to be able to plug a FireWire cable between the PowerBook and one of the computers on the LAN and do the file transfer using IP over FireWire.
Ideally, I'd like the PowerBook to continue to use the same IP address as it was using with the Airport card, i.e., as soon as a FireWire cable is plugged in, switch to using it.
Yes, I did check the "Built-in FireWire" under "Network Port Configurations" and prioritized it above Airport. However, on the computer on the other end, it seems as though I have to enable Sharing of the internet connection. When that happens, the PowerBook gets a DHCP-assigned IP address from the other computer. This isn't what I want. I want to retain the same IP address and have the other computer simply act as bridge to the ethernet network.
Is this possible? If so, how?
    PowerBook 15 Al 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I don't think it is possible to have the same IP address on the FireWire port as the Airport port. In any case, it is not necessary.
When you have two different IP addresses on a computer, that computer is multi-homed, and the IP addresses must be different. But this doesn't matter, because when File Sharing is active, the Bonjour name is the same on both networks.
If you want FireWire to be the default, drag it to the top of the list in the "Network Port Configurations" part of the Network pane in System Preferences. This should be the preferred route from then on, although sometimes you have to shut off airport to be sure.

  • Firewire 800 plug shorted and killed my battery!!

    Hi all,
Not sure if my headline is completely accurate, but here is the run down of what happened. Anybody had any similar stories?
    The Problem:
While using my 2011 MBP (2.66 i7, 4gigs, OSX 10.6.8) for web surfing, I decided to tranfer some programs to an external HD. Battery showed 54% with only safari running. As soon as I plugged my firewire 800 cable into the port, power cut immediately. At the time, the firewire cable wasn't connected to anything but the macbook. After crash, the computer would not boot, or show any signs of power cycling (no battery meter and unresponsive power button).
Now, the computer only boots while attached to the 85W wall adapter. Stangely, the system profiler sees the battery maintaining a 54% charge, but refuses to charge further. Power crashes immediately when disconnected from AC. Each crash seems to be resetting PRAM or SMC(???). Date is reset, wireless networks cleared, and other symptoms of power management issues. Also, inserting firewire into the port has no effect while computer is plugged into the adapter.
    Actions taken:
Inspected pins on both the firewire cable and the port for bent/shorted power. No change.
Attempted an SMC reset, but I'm not sure if this had any effect or if I even did it correctly.
    Other:
I'm a FOH engineer on the road and have used the firewire 800 port for nearly a year without issue. On Battery power and AC. It troubles me that such a familiar operation could cause a complete power crisis.
Any help or ideas would be much appreciated before I have to spend a chunk of change on this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tethered and Worried.

Hi, I had the exact same issue recently. Had my battery replaced twice and also the logic board. Pretty annoying going to apple about 8 times though to try and get it sorted. I think the problem actually stemed from a dodgy firewire cable though. Try replacing it see if the problem still happens?

  • How do I transfer content from DVR to Macbook Pro via Firewire?

I need help. I want to transfer my recorded shows off of my Comcast Motorolo DVR to my Macbook Pro, Version 10.9.1. I've done some youtube searches and the ones that I find say I need AVCVideocapand that I can get it from downloading Firewire SDK 2.6. So I downloaded firewire SDK 2.6 and when I try to open it I get an error saying it can't be open because it's from an unknow developer. So then I downloaded the lastest XCode software but still no AVCVideocap. I have the 9 pin plug of firewire plugged into the back of my DVR and the othere end of firewire, 6pin, connected to my Mac. Should I be seeing anything on my desktop, like new device or something? Please help. Thanks in advance, Joey

To run the installer, press the Control key and click the installer, and choose Open.
A different way would be to open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, press the padlock at the bottom left corner of the System Preferences window, and select "Anywhere" under "Allow applications downloaded from". Finally, run the installer.

  • Mini no longer detecting Sony firewire DL dvd burner

    Hello,
I picked up an external sony dvd burner for cheap and it worked fine for quite some time. My mini only has a cd burner so it was a perfect solution.
I was using Toast with it just fine.
Out of no where my mini does not pick it up at all. I know the drive works as I've plugged it in via firewire to my G4 ibook.
System profiler shows under FireWire "firewire bus" and the rest is blank. Could it be my port is gone? I dont think I ever plugged that firewire cable out untill i tried figuring out what was going on.
    Any help would be great.

    Hi
I had a very similar problem. My Mini G4 did not mount any externaal device, Firewire or USB, nor even the in-built CD Drive.
It is now away for repair awaiting a new motherboard (I am told).
Hope yours turns out to be a simpler remedy.

  • Does 2 firewire audio and video interface can work together  on FCP ?

    hello,
My audio interface is a TC Electronic Konnekt 24D
my video interface is a Canopus ADVC 110
my hard drives are plugged in firewire too
and I use Final Cut Pro 5.0.4
So, the konnekt is recognized by FCP only when the Canopus is not plugged. And even then, the audio sometimes drop out and sometimes causes the app to crash, so that I have to trash the preferences
When I plug the Canopus, the Konnekt 24D is recognised by OS X but not FCP
I want to use the voice over tool with the konnekt 24D, so what should I do ?
Does 2 firewire audio and video interface can work together ?
If so, maybe I only have a driver problem from TC Electronic.
But if not, I have to change this interface. Let me know if only RME, MOTU, Presonus and Edirol work, as it is said on apple's webpage for hardware compatibility
    thanks
    eMac G4 1,25 Ghz Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    eMac G4 1,25 Ghz 1 Go RAM DDR   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The 1082 does show up as a possible input when I open
    the VO tool.
Ok. So an audio interface can be plugged to FCP without crashing the app. Because of the Konnekt driver problem, I wasn't shure of this.
I use my Aja box for export & external monitoring.
All my audio sources run back into the Tascam and I
use the analog mixer in the 1082 to monitor different
    sources.
When I view external video, the audio follows it to
    keep sync.
that's exactly what I want with other I/O interfaces. I'd like to monitor video with the canopus ADVC 110, and monitor audio with the Konnekt 24D (or another interface if this one is not compatible)
I also imput dailies with a deck or a camera (DV or HDV) but that's not the point here.
I want to imput audio with the Konnekt 24D because of its audio quality. Not audio sync to video dailies. But voice over, in sync with FCP video playback (for me, tha ADVC 110)

  • External dvd/cd firewire drive disappears

I have a OWC Mercury Pro Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Pioneer DVR-218L External DVD/CD Writer. I have it connected by the firewire 800 port. problem is that it will disappear from the desktop intermittently, i only turn it on when i need to use it and sometimes it never mounts the disc. the only way to bring it back is shut down the drive and computer, unplug the firewire cable from the drive and the power cable from the computer. start up the computer and when it is up i can plug the firewire cable back into the computer and start the drive and presto its back and working. also i can not burn music cds with itunes. i will put in a blank cd and it will mount, itunes will go through the whole burn process and then give the error of "the attempt to burn failed. the device is not accessible, probably because it was removed" it is now gone from the desktop at this point and will not open the tray until i shut it down and power it up, and wont mount on the desk top until i do the unplug procedure. any suggestions?!? Thanks Chris

    Hi Chris
Could just be a bad FireWire cable, but it's hard to tell exactly without more testing.
    1. Check the drives power supply connections and try another FireWire cable.
    2. Still having trouble, test the drive connected to another iMac with FireWire 800.
+(ask your Local Apple Store if you can test it with one of there iMacs)+
    3. If it has USB, test it connected up to the iMac USB.
