  • IPhone Photo Access

I have an iPhone 5s running iOS 8.1. Since Apple updated the S/W to iOS 8, the access to photos - be it Camera Roll (Which only re-appeared with 8,1) within most apps seems to have been slowed down significatly.
I store my pics on the iPhone from my Mac 'Pictures" folder where I maintain my own semblance of order - not using iPhoto which seems to only understand a "date" order. I prefer to sort my pics myself based on something that makes sense to me - like trip to Las Vegas, or Joe Schmo. That makes a whole lot more sense than the pics as taken by date. So my pics are stored in Albums - folders in the 'Picures" folder, which is convienient and simple to understand I don't really care about dates - except I can store in the folders in 'Picures' folders with other names - such as dates, but they don't show up at all on the iPhone - except now they sort by date, which is the same thing! Ths issue is not how I store my pics - it's access to them from 20 or so different apps. I've updated all the apps - seemingly daily for the last few weeks and unless someone at Apple hasn't told them new information to make access quicker, then there is a disconnect between Apple and their App makers in utlizing the data on the iPhone. Even Apple must see this as access to add a picture to the Address book or to the Messages can take a long time to bring up the photos. It used to take seconds, now it has taken as much as a minute to bring up the photos to select!
BTW - nothing else is running, I've restarted the iPhone, etc, etc, I've had a Mac since 1984 and know about most of the operations of the computer from way back. I'm still upset that Apple took a low resolution screen with great 3-D icons and converted them on High resolution screens to poorly drawn, 1-D flat colorless icons a 4th grader could draw.

Generally to restart an iPhone that is not responding, do a reset. That is done by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. Usually takes about 15-30 seconds.
As far as the photos problem, when you activated the phone for the first time, did you restore from the backup of an old device, or did you activate as a new device, not from a backup? The reset may solve your photo problem as well, but if not, the next step in the user troubleshooting is a restore from a backup, and if necessary restore as a new device. Make sure you have all of your photos imported to the computer and contacts and calendar synced to a supported application. A restore will delete all of your data, however when using a backup, it puts it all back. Restore as new will delete everything and only put the iOS back on the device. You will lose game saves and SMS if you restore as new.

  • How are photos accessed from Apple TV via itunes

I seem to be missing something. Having configured Apple TV (newest generation) and iTunes 10.0.5 on my iMac (10.8.4) for home sharing, (almost everything) works fine besides one thing: When it comes to photos, my iPhoto (9.4.3) libraries are accessed sort of randomly. Sometimes I can't access "albums", sometimes only the "photos" section of the library. Maybe the reason is that I could not do an important configuration. The Apple TV manual says: 'Make sure the photos you want to share are selected. In iTunes choose Advanced > "Choose Photos to share," and then select the photos you want to share.' But I can't find an option like that on my iTunes (German version, though).
Could someone explain the underlying mechanism to me and tell me what to do, please.
    Regards

OK. Homesharing settings have moved in that case, you can now find them in the File menu, rather than the advanced menu.

  • Vista Crash. Reloaded but no photo access

Hi, Vista crashed on me and Dell
cant fix it so I reloaded Vista and now I have lost all my programs
    including access to my photos.
    Can anyone advise.
    telelo

What method did you use to "reload" Vista?
You may have wiped the disk!
Presumably you had your photos backed up?

  • Photo access by apps

Photo apps, like Art Camera, used to be able to access photo albums on my phone but can't now.  If I go to Privacy/Photos, it doesn't give me the option to allow these programs access.

You can not permit only specific apps to access the camera.  If you are an Exchange shop, you can use policies in Exchange to disable the camera on any phone connected to Exchange. That's it. It's all or nothing.

  • Photo accessibility

When u want to upload a photo to Facebook from iPhone it says
This app doesn't have access to you photos or videos
You can enable access in privacy setting
I tried to fix it but it didn't work
Does anyone know how to ?

    Randers4,
I have the ability to see one Photo Stream but when asked to view someone else's it states I need to be signed into iCloud which I am already signed onto. any ideas. I am on an Airbook.

  • Restricting photo access on ipad and iphone?

Is there any way to restrict my 4 year old from going through the photos on our ipad?

No, you can't stop him/her viewing and/or deleting them in the Photos app - only the actual Camera app can be hidden, not the photos.
There are some third-party photo apps which allow you to copy your photos into them from Photos, and which can have a passcode lock set to restrict access to them e.g. Photo Manager Pro has a passcode lock within it - so you could copy your photos into a third-party app (and preferably to your computer so that you have a backup copy : copying photos) and then delete them from Photos.

  • Can Photos access a NAS device like iPhoto could?

With iPhoto I am accessing the iPhoto library on a Synology NAS.  Will I be able to do this with the Photos app?  Thanks, in advance.

Hmmm. You're very lucky. That iPhoto Library should not be on a NAS or any network location. There is a very high risk of corruption and data loss. See this
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5168
    Note also the comment:
“Additionally, storing the iPhoto library on a network rather than locally on your computer can also lead to poor performance or data loss.”
It needs to be on a disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and directly connected to the Mac. The same with the Photos Library. Photos will not convert or work with a Library on a NAS.

  • My app requires photo access but does not show up

My photo editing app requires access to my photos and so I go to privacy settings but the app is not listed at all. I have even gone into Restrictions but it wasnt there either!
I've restarted my ipad and still nothing!

I about to tear my already thinning hair out. Philo124, you have saved me from doing this. I have been around in circles, searched the web from dawn till dusk for several days and yet just now in less than 5 minutes, I have problem solved. I can tell you that the Forbidden City in Beijing would have had an Apple IPhone stuffed in a crevice somewhere had my wife not insisted it took good photos.  No not the normal camera on it but Cameara Plus  pro.  Any how, thank you for your sound and helpful knowledge.
How do I give this the 10 points tick???

  • No photos access via the Finder!

This is in reference to using iPhoto on the iMac G5 and an iPhoto Library of about 17K images.
Where are my photos hiding? Why can't I find them in the Finder?
I can't find them using Adobe Bridge, either, to edit them in Photoshop and use them in newsletters laid out in InDesign. I also like to use Photoshop's web gallery features, but that is a little difficult when I can't locate my photos. The only way I can get my camera downloads to show up is by launching iPhoto; which, in no way integrates with my established workflow. I need to be able to get to my photos via the Finder.
Some pictures that were there before the upgrade now appear as blank, rounded corner squares with a dotted outline. Where might these images have disappeared to?
This is a disaster. How do I undo this incredible upgrade so I can get my photos back? *I don't appreciate having my options eliminated for me.*

    Kathryn
Using Bridge to navigate an iPhoto Library increases the risk if corruption of the database exponentially.
You can set Photoshop as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically.
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.

  • 4th Gen. iPod photo - Access is denied.

I am having trouble opening my iPod in 'My Computer'. I have tried two iPods on two different computers and they both say 'access is denied' when I try to open them in My Computer. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Without much further info on the initial post (i.e., whether the computers referred to have multiple user accounts on them), I can't say for certain. For the first reply, however, it sounds like either an Administrative rights issue at your workplace (meaning talk to the IT dept, perhaps, depending on your workplace), or something further.

  • Unable to sync photos - access denied

    Hello everyone,
My new Dell desktop system has a 64 bit Vista Home Premium OS. I installed the 64 bit iTunes application.
When trying to sync with my iPod Classic (6 months old) I can't get my photos to transfer. When I attempt to check the box for "selected folders" I get an error message that this folder ("Pictures")are not allowed.
Does anyone have any similar experience with this or with the 64 bit application and problems - or any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help !!

I'm not sure why - but that didn't seem to work for me.  I had to use:-
    stsadm -o getsitelock -url <Site-collection-url>
The result was "None".  I also checked in CA and my sites are not locked

  • App doesn't have access to my photos and I want it to

I have a bunch of apps that want to access my photos and I want them to but I can't seem to change the setting to allow them to. I have tried everythingi can think of and I can't figure it out, does anyone know what to do?

I had the same issue and solved it by going to Settings > General > Restrictions > Privacy: Photos and somehow Facebook had a restriction on! Once I selected "Allow Changes," I rebooted my phone, and when I opened both Facebook and Instagram, they both asked for photo access.

  • How to find photos in iPhoto which may not be there - but appear.

An acquaintance of mine has by accident deleted a bunch of photos from iPhoto, assuming he had already moved them into another folder. Somethings strange happened, as the still appear to accesible, but then again not really. I have promised to help him, and he explains his actions like the following:
    1. I transferred my photos from a Fujifilm Finepix camera to a New Event (A) in iPhoto.
    2. I then deleted the photos on the camera.
    3. Then I made other new folders/events (B) with other names.
    4. I moved the photos from folder A to these new folders B without any problems (I can still see these photos as small bitmaps, please see later)
    5. Then I created another event, but by accident I gave it the same name as the folder A in which the photos originally were.
    6. I then deleted this original folder A from which the photos had been removed, as I assumed it was empty.
    7. Now - this process has caused that the photos have disappeared everywhere, and I cannot see the photos in folder B. However, empty frames of the photos appear there.
    8. Also, when I press the Edit button at the bottom of iPhoto, all the photos appear at the top as small bitmaps, but they cannot be opened.
    9. The photos cannot be seen in Finder, in Trash inside iPhoto or in the normal OS X Trash bin.
Now, the question is: are the photos to be found for recovery somewhere in iPhoto (or elsewhere) which we as amateurs do not know about - since they appear as thumbnails?
    I hope somebody can help.
    Thank you kindly.

first off we only have words to communicate with so it is important to use them correctly adn consistantly
You seem to be using folders and events interchangelably
In iPhoto folders are organizational elments that do not hold photos - they hold albums or other folders  --  are you talking about events in every case or are you talking about finder folders (which do hold files that may contain photos) accessed via the finder and events accessed via iPhoto?
Thumbnails are totalklyt seperate from the main photo - iPhoto always has either two or three versions of a photo used for different purposes - a thumbnail and the oriiginal plus possibly a preview of the photo - these are each in seperat files (and in seperate folders within the iPhoto database) and any of the three can be missing due to datgabase errors or user actions - without exact and accurate information we can only make guesses about yoru situation
How were the photos moved from event (I assume) A to B
How did you delete event A
What version of iPhoto and of the OS?

  • How do you get OS X to use iPhoto on camera import instead of Photos?

Okay, have iPhoto 9.6.1 and can open iPhoto and all... but whenever I connect my camera to the computer to import photos, it always defaults to Photos.  I want it to default to iPhoto.  Is there a way to get it to stop using Photos by default?  Can't rename or delete the Photos app.  Have no Photos Library so I don't want to have to exit out of Photos and launch iPhoto every time I want to import new photos.  I just want Photos to stay out of the picture entirely.  Let iPhoto do what it used to do and stop trying to hijack everything.

    PMiles:
Hard links are used in Photos to prevent duplication of media. You can verify that yourself by exporting some of your library to a small USB drive, enough to more than half fill the drive, then using Option Open to create a Photos library from the exported one. You'll note everything fits on the small drive. The use of hard links (multiple names for the same file) is what allows Time Machine to keep many many dates worth of backups without duplicating files that have not changed between dates.
    Also, here's a quote from David Pogues's review: https://www.yahoo.com/tech/everything-worth-knowing-about-switching-to-os-x-1101 29491789.html
"What’s wild is that Photos accesses your existing photo library. It doesn’t convert the original photos into some new format. You’ll be able to switch back and forth among the three programs — iPhoto, Aperture, Photos — without having to duplicate any files or use up any more disk space.
There is one big catch, however: Your library splits at the moment you install Photos.
After you first run Photos, when you edit, add, or delete any pictures, those changes show up only in the one program you’re using at the time. New pictures you add to Photos appear only in Photos; new pictures you add to iPhoto appear only in iPhoto, and so on. (You can easily export/import them if necessary.) Same thing with edits you make: They’re saved only in the program where you make those changes."
