Photo albums shared on iCloud

How come the photo albums shared on iCloud still use the iPhone's physical memory and how can I fix this ?

I'm bumping this. I thought the whole idea of icloud photosharing albums was the fact they are stored in the cloud thus not taking up any storage locally on the phone? Better yet they don't apply to icloud storage as well. However, I am confused as why if photosharing albums are stored in the cloud they are taking up storage on my phone?

Do photo albums sync with iCloud?
If so, will they be back after a restore?

photo albums do not sync. Camera roll is backed up to icloud in backup file and is back after restore. Photostream is not synced, but rather streamed, so it will not be back with exception of default time (30days) or default amount (1000 pictures). whichever is smaller.
Photo albums that were synced from computer do not go to any backup.

  • Photo album sharing on iMac/ iPad

My wife and I share the same iMac but with different log-ins.  At the moment my wife has to log in, as me to see the family photo albums.  I am trying to find a way of sharing my photo albums so my she may see them when she uses her log in.  I am thinking of buying her an iPad for Christmas but the choice is key that she is able to see all of my photo albums from her log-in, as the iPad will be synced to her log in.
I have seen the Geniuses on two occasions now and they tell me to drop the albums into the drop box but this just isn't working.  Can anyone help?

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Photos not sharing on iCloud

I cannot share via iCloud. I get drop down menu click iCloud sharing  add recipients but nobody gets them. Also I have no options in Photos when I click iCloud and this appears with no options
ICloud is only available through system photo library

Finally found the right solution and changed the "photo system library" to the one that has all photos.

  • HT202786 Photos not sharing to iCloud or My Photo Stream. Help!

Migrated over to Photos. I see all my pictures, but when I click on the Shared button up top it hangs showing “Connecting to Library” and below that “Retrieving latest photo sharing activity”.
I’ve tried disable and reenabling iCloud options, but to no avail.

    Fixed it!!!
First make sure you have your machine set up to display hidden files.  (Mine was turned off to hide all those darn .DS files so that was job number one).
This  link shows how to do it if you need to thru terminal.
    https://pixelgrinch.wordpress.com/2014/10/20/mac-os-x-show-hidden-files-in-yosem ite/
    Then
    1. Close Photos
    2. Go to System Preferences, iCloud, Photos and disable “My photo Stream” and “iCloud Photo Sharing”
    3. Go to folder /Users/YourUser/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd/Data/Library/Applicat ion Support/com.apple.cloudphotosd/services
    4. Delete com.apple.photo.icloud.myphotostream and com.apple.photo.icloud.sharedstreams folders
    5. Enable “My photo Stream” and “iCloud Photo Sharing” again.
    6. Start Photos. After a while, the shared photos will start coming although may take a while.
Last step, go back and hide hidden files, again shown on link above.

  • Can I sync my photo albums to my PC or just all the photos as one chunk via Photostream?

So I figured out how to sync my Photostream to my PC.  However, when it syncs it's just all the photos. Is there anyway to sync the structure of my photo albums to the icloud or my PC so I have the organization I have on iphone?

No, PhotoStream was designed to be one long stream of photos.
You might be able to organize photos in your upload folder into folders, but they will not display when viewing PhotoStream.

  • HT201317 I have a MobileMe account and have shared many MobileMe Galleries.  MobileMe Galleries are going away in June.  How can I share a photo album with others using iCloud?

I have a MobileMe account and have shared many MobileMe Galleries.  MobileMe Galleries are going away in June.  How can I share a photo album with others using iCloud?

The new ios version of iPhoto allows sharing.  Here's a blurb from Apple's web site:
There’s the old way of creating photo galleries, then there’s the iPhoto way. Select a group of photos and iPhoto automatically flows them into a beautiful journal that’s fun to personalize and share online. Touch a photo to make it bigger or smaller. Or drag it to a different spot on the screen. iPhoto adjusts the page around whatever you’re doing, so your journal always looks great. You can even add captions, maps, dates, and weather — giving family and friends the big picture at a glance.
    More things you can do:
With iPhoto, there’s more than one way to share a photo. Post pictures directly to Facebook, Flickr, or Twitter. Play an impromptu slideshow on your iPad or iPhone. Or stream photos to your HDTV to give your big moments room to shine.
I have not used ios version of iPhoto to share "journals" and I'm not sure this is part of iCloud or not.  You'll have to do a google search on "ios iphoto" and read up of this journal thing.  As far as I know, this is the only way of sharing photos.  I'm not sure whether other friends use a browser to view these journals or whether they need something special.  Any way - search around to find answers.

  • How can I add photo albums on my Mac to my iCloud shared album?

I recently upgraded from iPhoto to the new Photos app on my Mac.  I then decided to try iCloud Photo Sharing.  I have 10,000 photos on my Mac and I keep them organized by albums.  I cannot figure out how to add entire selected existing photo albums in my Photos app which reside on my Mac to icloud Photo Sharing rather than adding photos one at a time.  It would take me forever to go through my 10,000 photos to choose which ones I want to share.  I just want to share certain albums.  Please help!  MacBook Pro Late 2011 Mac OS 10.10.3

Open the album and select all of the photos.  click on the Share button and select the Shared Photo Album you want to add them to (or create a new shared album).

How long do shared photo stream albums stay in iCloud?

I actually found the FAQ for Shared Photo Streams and the answer is:

No. Shared streams are removed from iCloud only if you delete the photo stream.

  • Problems with iCloud shared photo album

I am subscribed to a shared photo album via iCloud. I had to restore my phone, and afterwards, my shared album was blank, no photos there.
It appears fine on my iPad; I can see all photos previously added.
I made sure that I have iCloud Photo Sharing on. I also had the owner of the album to delete and re-add me.

If the photos were synced to the iPod you have to unsync them or use a third-party program like TouchCopy or PhoneView to delete them.

  • How can I remove my iCloud Photo Albums from my iPhone 6 storage, but still use the iCloud Photo Sharing?

I put all my photos from my iPod Touch 4 and my iPhone 4S in iCloud Photo Albums and Labeled them so that when I got the new iPhone 6 on iOS 8.1.2 I could have my previous photos on there for future use. Now I look on my iTunes app on my computer it shows that my storage on my iPhone 6 is almost full. Those Photos in iCloud are taking up all my storage on my iPhone. I know how to add more storage on my iCloud account, I just want to know Is there a way where my iCloud Photo Albums can still be in my iCloud Account, just not taking up all my storage on my iPhone.

    Hello mushysun,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you did not sign out of your Apple ID on your iPhone before creating a new one, then you will need to sign back in with your previous Apple ID and then sign out.  If you do not remember your password and do not have access to the email account, then you can reset your password by using the security questions.

  • How can I remove photos a subscriber posted to an iCloud photo album?

So my 16 year old cousin just posted over 600 photos to a shared family photo album.  How or why she did this, I can't imagine.  I've turned off 'subscribers can post' and removed her from the shared album.  If I delete them from the shared album, does that delete them from her phone as well?  Did removing her from the shared folder already remove the photos from her iPhone?

    Hi there Anthony Sbarro,
You may find the information in the article below helpful. If you delete the photos, they will only delete from the photostream.
    iCloud: Shared Photo Streams FAQ
How do I delete photos from a shared stream?
If you are the owner of a shared stream, you can delete photos from the stream in the same way you delete any other photos from your iOS device, Mac, or Windows PC.  The photos will be automatically deleted from the stream on all your devices and the devices of anyone subscribed to the stream. Any photos that were previously saved or downloaded from the shared stream to another location, such as the Camera Roll, will not be deleted from that location. Learn more about deleting shared photos.
